A member of the Feel My Bicep crew alongside the likes of Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson (who'd go on to form the duo Bicep), Rory Hamilton aka Hammer isn't just someone who has a sense for discovering interesting electronica works. After decades of hosting parties in Glasgow and later London, as well as spinning records the world over, the Belfast-born talent knows how to stitch together those records to create moments of passionate revelry. India has bore witness to that skill multiple times at this point as Hamilton returned to the country earlier this year after half a decade, adding dates in Goa and Kolkata alongside Delhi and Mumbai before jetting off to Sri Lanka for further performances with Tropical Wax for an 8-show tour of India and Sri Lanka. He recorded a mix for Wild City in Sri Lanka at the end of his tour to look back at his time in the region, which also included signing on Kolkata's 8-bit culprit – the second artist from India to work with the label after New Delhi Anhad Khanna aka Sublime Sound. "From the first ever gig I played in Auro in New Delhi, I learnt that the dance floor in India is special in that the sense of excitement is genuinely palpable. Taking risks pays off," says Hamilton. "I've also learnt that like every country, each city is different and you need to be ready to fit into it." Consequently, while often operating close to house, disco and some techno, how Hammer uses a particular style can vary. Recorded at The Luna Terrace of Galle's Closenburg Hotel, the HQ of Tropical Wax, the Wild City mix goes from an unreleased remix of Syreeta Wright's chants on 'Shanti', to the disco-inspired Baldo Remix of Demi Riquísimo & Manami's 'Sugar Snap'. Testifying Hammer's abilities to create notable moments in his sets, the mix offers several instances – from the melody-led energy of Two Mamarrachos to the respite of the laidback chords of Madvilla's 'Galactic Banana'. The best, however, is the house-meets-pop euphoria that comes almost as a cinematic euphoric climax to the mix with an unreleased track featuring the voice of Lili Chan. We welcome back Irish favourite Pagan to the Four Four Premiere as the Dublin based producer releases a two track EP which see's the youngster dip his toes into the realms of menacing techno, with his signature ethereal blends of synth lines. One of the countries busiest producer's and DJs Pagan is back with new music and this time the youngster presents a two track EP focussing on the harder ends of dance music as he flirts with techno. Previously known for his smooth blend of breaks, trance and electro, the Donegal native shows his range as he present's a duet of techno rhythms. Riding on the back of an impressive 2022, playing headline club show's and some of the most prestigious slots on the festival circuit all around the country, Rossa Doherty's Pagan alias is flying high right now. Recent mixes on Rinse FM & Bicep's coveted Feel My Bicep mix series, have cemented Pagan's name as an impressive selector with a vast knowledge for all things grimey, trancey and banging. Pagan's First Of The Season EP is comprised of two straight forward banging emotive tools, Pagan dabbles in 90's style techno grooves with classic off-kilter and euphoric synth lines that have become synonymous with his Pagan project. Pagan has also teased a remix from AK Sports which is due to drop next month. Today we premiere After The Rain which show's Pagan flex his hard edged guns as he delivers more straight-forward, four-to-the-floor rhythms, while meandering synths create a sound that is both epic and full. This is peak-time techno for the end of the night. You can purchase the full EP HERE. English: The Welsh producer Benjamin Damage throughout his career has performed abysmally as a producer, establishing a style between techno and uk garage, wandering at the same time in sounds that combine intriguing, playful melodies with a disturbing groovy. He has released much of his music on the defunct 50 Weapons label, where he was able to release his only two albums to date and a variety of EPs that later opened the door for him to step on other labels such as R&S Records, Feel My Bicep, Figure and Arts Collective. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Español: El productor galés Benjamin Damage a lo largo de su carrera se ha desenvuelto abismalmente como productor, estableciendo un estilo entre el techno y el uk garage, deambulando a la vez en sonidos que combinan melodías intrigantes, juguetonas con un groovy inquietante. Episode 8 of This Is Not Happening finds one of the most hotly-anticipated electronic music albums of the last year: Bicep's Isles. Made mostly before lockdown, and held back as music came to terms with the pandemic, Isles comes after their monster self-titled debut in 2017. In Hour 1 we welcome back Taraval celebrating the release of his new EP 'Aardvark', which is out on Four Tet's Text Records today. The title track has been whipping festivals and dance floors into a frenzy all summer long when played by the likes of Four Tet, Daphni, Floating Points amongst others, getting many Track ID requests and features in this mix. The San Francisco based producer also has a background as a band member in Caribou. He told us; "Always exciting to get to mix for Solid Steel. This one features a lot of music I’ve discovered and loved in 2018, plus a couple of tracks from my Aardvark EP on Text Records out on Oct 19. I recorded this live at Crowbar Corner studios, a new and very inspiring place in San Francisco I share with a bunch of artists. It starts off in an aquatic groove then shifts into some psych-y techno then dissolves into some American drones and tones old and new." His latest EP Futurola is the first release on Denis Sulta’s new Sulta Selects sub label Silver Service, which has been gaining a lot of International support and his next release 'Retribution' is coming out on Feel My Bicep in November. He had this to say; "Big big honour to be able to contribute to this series! Nachtbraker (Amsterdam, Netherlands) After receiving widespread recognition for books like “How Does He Do It?” and “Glorious Misunderstandings”, Maurits Verwoerd decided to start a career as a music producer. Though few doubted his skills as an artist, most of Maurits’ neighbours thought differently about his compositions, forcing him to start producing music in the underground dungeons of Amsterdam. Coming out occasionally, but only at night, slowly made him well known among friends and enemies as Nachtbraker (Dutch for night hawk). Nachtbraker’s exposure to a wide range of genres are clearly audible in his music, ranging from ecstatic slow grooves and unconventional dub tracks to straight-up 4/4 house. His most recent 2018 Small Towel People EP was premiered by Mixmag and given a score of 9.5 / 10 by DJ Mag. Holding residencies on Red Light Radio and Rinse FM whilst also delivering podcasts for Feel My Bicep and DGTL, the Quartet Series label boss continues to receive widespread recognition. For the 23rd Avenue Red Podcast we present Manchester-based DJ Rikki Humphrey, a notorious crate digger and a stylistically diverse DJ who does not identify with genre boundaries when considering his musical selections. His taste for deep, underground House and Techno was founded on listening to old Radio One Essential Mixes and his instinctive ear for unearthing new musical sounds led him to start collecting records, purchase a pair of Technics 1210 mk2 decks and begin mixing. He has never looked back and he is now certifiably a true vinyl junkie. As well as hosting monthly online radio shows on The Underground Sessions and holding down residencies at Nest in Leeds, Studio 89 in Cardiff and Etc in Manchester, Rikki has also supported some of the finest underground DJs around, including the likes of Mike Huckaby, Italojohnson, Jeremy 'Underground Paris', Jay Daniel, Bicep, Maurice Fulton and Hunee. Rikki is also a very hard-working podcaster, dishing out tantalizing selections of wax to a wide range of respected labels including Feel My Bicep, Banoffee Pies, Roots For Bloom, City Fly and many more. Armed with a well-rounded musical exposure, saving to afford production equipment has become a priority for Rikki in recent months in order to capture the sounds and styles of records he has fallen in love with over the years. His aim is: "To create instinctive dance floor jams with a distinct electronic edge, which make your neck snap and your body jack... or to take you off the dancefloor altogether to somewhere completely different". He already has some very high quality tracks released on Hull's Freche Früchte Recordings, Dublin-based label Swink Music and also Danish label Two House Limited. With up-coming releases on a few different UK labels as well as a string of remixes in the pipeline, Rikki is certainly one to keep an eye out for! @slickyrik ===== No tracklist was provided for this mix, but do feel free to ask for track ID's in the comments.
For our 13th Episode of our podcast series we present to you a mix from up and coming Belfast based DJ & producer Cromby. He is only 20 year old and is already steadily cementing a reputation for himself as a consistent purveyor of quality house music. Holding down a residency at Belfast institution, The Stiff Kitten and setting the tone with his warm up slots for international powerhouses such as Kerri Chandler shows that Cromby knows his onions. His productions consist of raw house works that lend a keen nod to evident Chicago sound he loves so much. The acclaim isn't solely coming from the dancefloor however, with BBC Radio One picking up on Chris as one to watch. Recent releases on Extended Play have been getting major props from the likes of Feel My Bicep, setting the precedent for remixes on Tom Budden's 'Alive' imprint and Assembly Records aswell as more original material in the pipeline too. Alongside his residency Cromby tour dates are flooding in! We think it's safe to say Cromby is a name you are going to be hearing a lot more of. Next up on the FMB mixes is another homegrown favourite BUBBA, presenting his Soundtraxx mix. Collaborations with Timmy Stewart as Bubba & T-Bone seen release’s on labels Get the Curse, Elevation, Mode Music and Tom Budden’s Alive imprint and have seen big support fromt he likes of Ivan Smagghe, Ewan Pearson, Ricardo Villalobos, Laurent Garnier and Solomun to name a few. With a release on the unparalleled Trax Records coming in the new year amongst other things we though this would be the perfect time to catch up…so take it away BUBBA. The late 70’s and early 80’s is a period that seems to hold a real fascination for me in movies and music. It was a period of new technology and computers influencing music and movies like Blade Runner, Alien, Star Wars, Escape from New York, Westworld stimulating my imagination of future visions. This combined with the electronic music of Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Human League soundtracks of John Carpenter moulded my love for an electronic sound which always inspires me. And I’m still discovering music from that era of disco early house, italo, electronica and pop from artists such as Tangerine Dream, Klause Schulze, Telex, Egyptian Lover, The The and more. I put together this 2 hr mix of new discoveries, old reedits, new trax, movie samples and some of my own, I guess it’s the sort of music I imagine that was getting played at the Technoir night club in the Terminator just before Arnie turned up and ruined the party!
