Poem: Is This Real?

The World Through The Heart of...

The words of my poetry move through me when I'm processing emotions or when I'm responding to something in the world. This poem poured out of me from a question someone asked me. I didn't really understand the context of the question, the intention behind the question or even what was being asked, yet it felt like a question that I didn't need to answer directly to the other person, but instead a question I needed to ask myself. This is the answer that came. You're asking me is this real? You're wondering if I know what you feelOr can time heal The deepest of woundsThe cracks that we try not to showWhen it's what allowed us to growBecause only by the cracks can we see the lightCan I see you guiding me through the nightBecause we are a messYet, how deeply we've been blessedBecause I know I'm where you are You're where I am Even if it appears to make nosenseEven with every where that I went To try to forgetI did neglect my heartWhen at last I stopped runningFrom the prison only I have builtFrom the walls only I put up Brick by brick It takes vulnerability to kick them downThen maybe I'm not destined to live undergroundLive in a cageIt's because I've been afraidOf the sins of my name I keep taking on the blame for the old meForgetting that by nature I'm already freeSo if I trust thisWould I not be destined for bliss? If I trusted loveWould that not be enough? If I didn't lock myself up inside Would that mean I no longer have to hide?Only inside can I find the answersOnly inside can I see the path The one where spirit and human meetWhere I am one with those that I greetWhere who I am can finally speak Because I gave myself what I really did needWhat only when I closed my eyes and breathedCould I finally seeThat only I can choose who in this life I be The fear OR the heart of serendipityThe heart whose whispers are getting louderAren't I the founder of a new way?Can I stop digging my own grave?By staying the same By believing it'll all fall apart Go wrongWhat if I do belong? What if all the mess I've made is okay? What if today I could step into faith And didn't have to waitTook all this b******t off my plateAnd create something newWhat if I could do all this with you?Somehow, I know it's my heart that speaks true Because I am the few, not the many Who doesn't have to be ready to decideThat what is real is first, inside So for all the tears I've criedThe anger that's built up I trust that as i let it go As i release this load This weight I'll be met at heavens gate on EarthReady to serveReady to hold spaceI've been gifted with the grace To taste love in formBecause I leaned into the storm I was drawn into the depths of being human So dark and consumingI always thought my demise was loomingBut, to my surprise It was my demiseThat brought me back to lifeTo remember So when you ask me is this real?I say, trust what only your heart can feelIf you felt supported by this poem, please leave a comment below or reach out via email, emma@emmaevelyncampbell.com and let me know what came up for you. The mammoths of the ancient world have been wonderfully preserved in the ice of Siberia. The cold, only a few miles out in space, will be far more intense than in the polar regions and its power of preserving the dead body would most probably be correspondingly increased. When the hero-scientist of this story knew he must die, he conceived a brilliant idea for the preservation of his body, the result of which even exceeded his expectations. What, how, and why are cleverly told here. "The Jameson Satellite" by Neil R. In this episode of the Atypical Behavior Analyst, we venture inwards to discuss self-awareness. We begin by stating what it is and reviewing the potential benefits to the service provider, clients, and their stakeholders. We then provide you with information on how to increase self-awareness, to include how that can be done in a behavior analytic manner. In an effort to fine-tune the work that we do as behavior analysts, improving our abilities to help our clients and their stakeholders, we explore self-awareness – what it is, its benefits, the disadvantages associated with limited self-awareness, and how to increase it. Learning Objectives: 1. Describe various definitions of self-awareness and their critical components 2. Provide benefits of increasing both internal and external self-awareness and disadvantages of limited self-awareness in our professional and personal lives 3. Evaluate the benefits of teaching self-awareness to others, including supervisees, stakeholders, and clients 4. Describe how to work on and increase your self-awareness 5. State the similarities between assessing client behavior and working on self-awareness Take Aways- your bite-sized educational noms - Self-awareness can be described in a variety of ways. Broken down behaviorally, self-awareness is the behavior of responding to certain variables in the environment with the outcome being a change in behavior. - You can use self-monitoring as a technique to improve your own self-awareness. Provide a place for others to give feedback, ask questions and seek out information. - Behavior analytic breakdown: critical variable/event occurs- quickly review the context of the behavior and environment- respond in a more preventative way. - Questions to further self-awareness should include more “what” questions instead of “why”. “What” furthers changes in behaviors instead of ruminating on past events. Welcome to another episode of Wild and Precious Conversations. This week, I introduce you to the FREE Science of Well Being class taught through Cousera by Dr. Laurie Santos at Yale. This week, I think Dr. Laurie Santos’ Yale course was on my mind as I contemplated Magic vs Science. I took her “Happiness Class” a few years ago when my family needed, frankly, a reminder of what happiness was.I think that is what was behind my thesis that emotional fitness ain’t Magic — It’s science. And kinda boring science, too. The podcast episode is admittedly a bit meandering this week but the gist is that the Wellness Industry was worth 3.72 TRILLION dollars back in 2015.Clearly, there is nothing wrong with spending money on things like a spa vacation, or a beautiful serene home. Clearly, there are people who can’t afford even basic things and struggle to feed their children and stay warm in winter.Between those extremes, many of us eek out our lives trying to get more emotionally fit — more emotionally well. We occasionally splurge on expensive solutions to our wellness deficit, buying a program or spa package or fitness thingy when, really, that is all smoke and mirrors or snake oi.Speaking of snake oil…have you ever wondered where that term came from? Turns out, there’s a bit of truth to it but, like many things, the medicine got diluted over time and when money started changing hands…Turns out, the best ways to become more emotionally it, achieve wellness as it were, are the following:Practice what you are good at.Savor your life — Notice things like your bare feet on the floor, the fact that you have hot water, the feeling of snow on your face.Practice gratitude Kindness for othersStay socially connectedExerciseSleep wellMeditateCarve out timeThese are all things that are taught in Dr. Laurie Santos’ free class, by the way…Notes:Wild and Precious Courses. — The Self Care Course Gives much more detail on the steps to take in order to fully feel all your emotions in a healthy way.Photo by Greg Rakozy on UnsplashThe Science of Well Being — Dr. Laurie Santos’ course on happiness. What Wellness isBest Self Care is Kindness to OthersTrue Story of Snake OilOnward. HELDENstunde.

The Becoming Heroes Podcast

Image credit: Photo by Greg Rakozy on Unsplash THE BLESSED BLACKDROP The Blessed Blackdrop In one of the function rooms at the Solent Hotel in Hampshire, England, there is a backdrop. It is like a black curtain that goes almost the full length of one wall. Blackdrop was a spelling mistake but one I like. I like the spelling mistake because this black backdrop – this blackdrop – conceals a secret. At the flick of a switch, this blackdrop becomes lit by 10,000 stars. It is an LED curtain, and it looks like the sky at night when powered up. Photographing and videoing members of my network against the blackdrop was ideal. The contrast made them seem brighter and bolder. This got me thinking. The natural state of the universe is not visible light but rather darkness. I am told there is a backdrop of microwave radiation everywhere, but I don't understand this nor can I see it. What I do see is a blackdrop punctuated by billions of beautiful stars. My spiritual friends tell me that, “Darkness is just the absence of Light.” If this is so, it is Darkness, not Light, that is the canvas upon which Light paints its patterns. Darkness is the norm. Darkness is the dominant state. I've wasted decades agonising over how Life ‘ought' to be. Life ought to be fair, just, kind, full of love. Whilst that would be great, it's not been my experience, nor, when I listen to the lessons of history, has it been the dominant experience for the majority of humans throughout time. Nature, herself, though beautiful, is also violent, dangerous, cruel and capricious. This is good news… if we use it to revise our expectations. The truth is that Darkness is the canvas. Struggle, disappointment, setbacks, sickness, strife, dissatisfaction, and suffering aren't ‘wrong' because they ‘shouldn't' be there. They are the norm. They just ‘are'. Once I let go of a sense of entitlement to a good life – one where everything ‘goes right' – one devoid of trouble - I discover something even more wonderful than the transformation of the Solent's Blackdrop into a Starscape. I discover new dimensions of gratitude and joy. Given that all of us are born into a life that will know suffering, every cup of coffee becomes a joy. Every sunny day. Every rainy day. Every kind word. Every act of kindness. Every experience of the shower. Every flower. Every glass of wine. Every olive. Every slice of toast. Walk this way for a week and then a new transformation will appear. It's like flicking a switch. The backdrop to your life and my life will become not Darkness but Gratitude. Gratitude becomes the canvas upon which moments of joy decorate our day. What are you grateful for today? [Author's note. I am grateful for YOU! I remember that you have made a choice to listen to this, perhaps even to leave a comment, like it, or share it. That takes time and energy, so I say, "Thank You!"]

Turning Towards Life - a Thirdspace podcast

Standing up, speaking out, and putting ourselves on the line. A conversation about hope with Lizzie Winn and Justin Wise of Thirdspace. This week we ask what it takes to take action in the world – to actually stand up, speak out, and put ourselves at risk. We explore together how shaky it can feel to do this, and how necessary in a world that deeply needs each of our gifts to be brought and contribution to be made. We wonder together what kind of faith in life, and what kind of sense of belonging with others, can help us to step out beyond the bounds of our own comfort and familiarity, and do our part to set things right. Turning Towards Life is a weekly live 30 minute conversation hosted by Thirdspace in which Justin Wise and Lizzie Winn dive deep into big questions of human living. You can find the source text and more information on this conversation at https://wp.me/p4Tynu-c9 and find more, including details about how to join us live, on our website http://turningtowards.life Photo by Greg Rakozy (https://unsplash.com/photos/oMpAz-DN-9I?utm_source=unsplash&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=creditCopyText) on Unsplash (https://unsplash.com/search/photos/hope?utm_source=unsplash&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=creditCopyText)

We all hold an image of God in our minds. So who is your God? What is your God like? Here's one way to find out when, and how, you formed your image of God... More…
