Brace yourself for one of the wildest musician stories you've ever heard. Amarillo, Texas' Hayden Pedigo makes gorgeous fingerstyle guitar music inspired by the likes of Will Ackerman and John Fahey. But Hayden has broken every mold imaginable when it comes to his career in music. The son of a truck stop preacher, Hayden worked at local Amarillo banks, recording music after-hours and aggressively reaching out to his music heroes to see if they wanted to collaborate (they often did). He finally ditched the life of a bank teller, got signed to indie label Mexican Summer, and - thanks to a quirky internet video - found himself running for Amarillo city council (he came in second). As if that wasn't unique enough, at some point, Gucci spotted him and recruited him to be in a fashion show. Stranger still, here's a working musician with a guitar and string endorsement deal (Yamaha and D'Addario) and an NPR Tiny Desk concert under his belt whose only touring to date has been opening for big indie acts like Jenny Lewis and Devendra Banhardt. We talk about growing up in Amarillo, his Opus acoustic guitar, his recent signing to Yamaha, and so much more. You'll love it and you'll love Hayden's unique approach towards his art. West Texas born artist Hayden Pedigo wields a broad defining axe in the world of music, art and human expression. Having been home-schooled and raised in a rather religious enviroment in his youth, Pedigo not only had to search high and low for his passions and interests, but bridge a tremendous gap that would eventually connect him to the outside world of music and like minded people. Having gained nation-wide attention through his unique campaign runnning for City Council back in 2018, Pedigo has recently signed with Mexican Summer, giving him the oppurtnity to tour, play live shows for the first time and doing something he thought he never would. Pedigo has one hell of a story and on this episode of the podcast we break through some of those realms. Enojy!

Stranger Things season four just came to an end, and it grabbed the attention of the masses. The show's 80's culture, supernatural twists, and detective narrative are a few aspects which contribute to the show's popularity. Hosts Dexter and Shannon dive into Hawkins to explore the themes, symbols, and characters within the show and what our fascination might say about our own culture. We hope you enjoy the show! We took a break, but we are back. Special thanks to Hayden Pedigo for the outro music and Jeff Wyrick for the cover art.

This is the first episode in our book club series. Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk was published in 1999 and has proven to be very prophetic. In this episode Shannon and Dexter are joined by Brad VanVokinberg to discuss this controversial and stimulating novel. If you haven't read the book and only seen the movie, first shame on you, second the movie and the book are close enough to follow along with the conversation! Special thanks to Jeff Wyrick for the cover art and Hayden Pedigo for the outro music.
In Hayden Pedigo's acoustic guitar playing one might hear the “loneliness and the space” of the Texas panhandle. The musician, composer, and former city-council candidate cites inspiration by guitarists from previous generations like Anthony Phillips (original Genesis guitarist), John Fahey, and Leo Kottke to sound very much like kickass fingerstyle guitarists of now, like Gwenifer Raymond and Toby Hay. Guitar nerds take note: Segovia is invoked, as are variations on multiple non-standard tunings, fingerpicks, and Leo Kottke's masterful banter stories. Hayden Pedigo's latest record, Letting Go, combines ambient electronics, English pastoralism, pedal steel, and fingerstyle guitar on both 6 and 12-strings for really melodic pieces in hard-to-replicate tunings. Pedigo plays remotely from Lubbock, TX. - Caryn Havlik Set List “Carthage,” “Some Kind of Shepherd” “Letting Go” Watch "Carthage": Watch "Some Kind of Shepherd": Watch "Letting Go":
In this episode, we cover our recent life style change from living in the middle of Amarillo, Texas to a rural family farm near Stephenville, Texas. We sum up the exciting changes over the past couple months as well as go over some of the thought processes that led us towards this decision. Part of the reason the podcast went through the recent rebranding was in preparation for this move, even though we weren't sure it was going to happen, even as it was happening…hence, the title, leap of faith. We hope you enjoy this episode. If you would like to support this podcast, the best way to do so is through helping spread the word. Home boy just put out a new album call “Letting Go”. Go check it out! Another short aside, I am publishing this episode on my 33 birthday. I have always had it in my mind that my life would be defined by the decisions I make this year, so let's hope I have my head on straight. I love you and good bye.

Hayden Pedigo is an experimental musician from Amarillo, TX. His new album is slated for release in September 2021 via Mexican Summer, w. whom Hayden signed in 2020. Hayden also stars in a documentary called 'Kid Candidate', about his unexpected run for Amarillo City council, which will be available to the public in July '21. A lively, creative, and talented fellow. Thanks for tuning in

The mindless mass, as a trope, is always present, and the natural inclination is to imagine that you are one of the few survivors. But why are we, as a society, so infatuated with zombies and apocalypses? In this episode, we explore the deeper side of this seemingly “silly” horror sub genre. A conversation with Hayden Pedigo in front of a live audience at ArtsFest. Hayden is an experimental guitarist with a growing reputation who ran for City Council this most recent election cycle. He didn't get elected, but he got a generation of younger citizens interested in local politics—and gained plenty of outside attention in the process. With host Jason Boyett, Hayden details his upbringing, explains the absurdist origins of his campaign and how it quickly became serious, and reveals what's coming next for him. The brilliant composer and two-time Talkhouse Podcast guest William Basinski recently dropped me an intriguing email. He wrote of a “very talented young friend, a fine guitarist from Amarillo” who has “a great story.” If Billy recommends an artist, I look into them; the more I learned about this guitarist from Amarillo, TX — Hayden Pedigo — the more fascinated I became. A born and raised Amarilloan, Hayden is an ambient acoustic guitarist and soundscape composer who's written music dedicated to the landscape and beauty of his hometown. Changing artistic lanes late last year, Hayden undertook a satirical project inspired by Harmony Korine that was composed of a series of bizarre, Tim and Eric-esque fake campaign videos. When the vids went viral, he decided to run for City Council in Amarillo in earnest, and is now a leading contender with a real shot at being elected. With his gonzo comedic approach and dual life in music, we thought that a convo between Hayden and Tim Heidecker — who's fresh off the release of Us — would make for a quite a show. Talkhouse pals Nick Dawson (EIC, Film) and Josh Modell (Executive Editor, Music) join me to introduce this politically-minded conversation between two great weirdos. Check it out and subscribe now to stay in the loop on future episodes of the Talkhouse Podcast. Stay up to date on live Talkhouse events with our Events tab. —Elia Einhorn, Talkhouse Podcast host and producer Today’s episode was co-produced by Mark Yoshizumi. Hayden Pedigo is an ever-increasingly recognizable name because of his recent eccentric take on campaign videos which went viral and have garnered national attention. Hayden Pedigo is a Amarillo local who has been making some waves in the music scene since he was in high school. His most recent album Greetings from Amarillo is on Spotify and available on iTunes. We talked about everything from musical influences, creating landscapes with sound, and the deeper side of nickelodeon. I really enjoyed sitting down with Hayden and look forward to seeing what he does in the future, he has a bright future ahead of himself for sure. Featured music by Counting crows and Grouper.
