Yves Tumor - "God Is A Circle," a 2022 single on Warp. Shortly after the end of spooky season, Yves Tumor dropped the chilling single “God Is A Circle” to the delight of the many fans who have been gripped by the Turin-based artist's enigmatic take on glam rock. The single follows last year's EP The Asymptotical World and 2020's full-length Heaven To a Tortured Mind. Produced by Noah Goldstein (Frank Ocean, Arcade Fire), and mixed by Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails), the song is built upon a beat of labored breaths for a moody post-punk-indebted rocker that features squelching guitars, fuzzed-out bass, and desperate shrieks. Swedish electronic artist Ecco2K and Lebanon-born artist Thoom bestow backing vocals as Yves Tumor sings about detachment and strained relationships, “There's places in my mind that I cannot go / There's people in my life I still don't know.” The song is paired perfectly with a campy horror-movie-style video by Jordan Hemmingway which adds to the ominous feel of the song. Talk 3. Freedom in Christ - what he has done for us (2) Welcome to the third talk in our series Themes from Colossians. In our first talk we considered The Supremacy of Christ - who he is. Basing our thoughts mainly on Colossians 1:15-20, we saw that: Jesus is God Jesus is eternal Jesus is creator Jesus is sustainer Jesus is head over all things Jesus is our saviour In Talk 2 we began to examine our freedom in Christ and what he has done for us. We concentrated on Col. 1:12-14 and saw that he has: Qualified us to share in his inheritance Rescued us from the dominion of darkness Brought us into his kingdom Redeemed us and forgiven our sins. In today's talk we'll be concentrating on Colossians 2:9-23. We'll start by reading vv. 9-15 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. The key to this passage is understanding that God has given us fullness in Christ and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. Or You are complete in him… What does this mean? It means that if you are in Christ you don't need anything else. This is because Christ is the head over every power and authority. Cf. He is head over all things (1:18). He has disarmed them, made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by his death on the cross (15). And through your faith in him and obedience to him in baptism you are identified with him: having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. So because you are in Christ, the head over all things: You don't need circumcision You don't need the law of the Old Testament You don't need man-made rules and regulations. You don't need circumcision (11) In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, Cf. 13 in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature Circumcision was the sign of the covenant God made with Abraham To be uncircumcised was to be outside the covenant But when we came to Christ we entered into a new and better covenant So by faith we have been ‘circumcised' not in the flesh but in our hearts. You don't need the law of the Old Testament (14) …having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. The written code refers to the Law of the Old Testament. The Greek is cheirographon. This was a statement of debt, signed by the debtor to acknowledge his indebtedness. It was often fixed to the doorpost of his house for all to see. That's why Paul says that the Law was against us and stood opposed to us. The Law not only stated our guilt. It demanded the penalty for our guilt! But by his death on the cross Jesus has canceled it, taken it away, nailing it to his cross! The debt was now chargeable to the cross! (When the debt was paid the cheirographon would be folded over and nailed down, thus making the debt invisible). You don't need man-made rules and regulations (16-23) Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: "Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!"? These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. N.B. Jesus would not let the Pharisees judge him or his followers with regard to the Sabbath. If these benefits of being complete because we are in Christ seem rather negative, thank God, there are wonderful positive benefits as well. All our sins have been forgiven When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins… We have been made alive with Christ When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins… God has not only forgiven all our sins. He has made us alive with Christ. Cf. 12 buried with him… raised with him Our enemy has been defeated And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Quote from Just a Taste of Heaven “To appreciate fully what Paul means by this we need to understand who the powers and authorities are, and the significance of his use of the word triumph. It is clear from Ephesians 6:10-12 that when Paul uses the phrase powers and authorities in this way he is referring to the satanic forces which are fighting against us as Christians. But what does he mean by saying that Christ triumphed over them by the cross? In using the word triumph Paul was deliberately calling to the mind of his readers the picture of a great military victory. In the Roman world a triumph was rather like a modern military decoration which someone is awarded either for bravery or for great achievements on the battlefield. To help understand this further, let us imagine that Caesar, the Roman Emperor, has learned that in a certain distant corner of the empire one of the tribes has rebelled against his authority. So he calls his most senior general and gives him instructions to take a legion of soldiers in order to suppress the rebellion. Accordingly the general goes and conquers the rebellious tribe, taking many prisoners and begins to lead them back to Rome. Before reaching Rome, however, he sends a herald in advance to inform the emperor of his victory. On hearing the news, the emperor decides to award the general a triumph. He proclaims a public holiday so that all the citizens of Rome can welcome the general on his return. Then, on the appointed day, the people line the streets of the city awaiting the return of the general. As he arrives in his chariot at the head of his legion, the people cheer and applaud, they almost worship the general because of his great victory. But behind the general and his legion come the captives. They have been stripped of their weapons. Their hands are tied, their feet are shackled. They are totally subjugated and are forced to walk with head bowed low beneath a symbolic ‘yoke' created for this purpose [1]. They have truly become a public spectacle. This is the picture that Paul calls to mind when he tells us that by the cross Jesus disarmed the powers and authorities and triumphed over them making a public spectacle of them. As citizens of heaven we have nothing to fear from such an enemy. Rather, we stand back in awe and marvel at the mighty victory our general has won for us, and we worship him. Understood this way, Colossians 2:15 is a wonderful revelation of the victory Christ accomplished on the cross over Satan and all his forces”. Summary of what Christ has done for us In the last two talks we have seen that: On the cross Jesus defeated the enemy He has redeemed us from his power He rescued us from his dominion As a result He has forgiven our sins and set us free from the Law of the OT He has made us alive with Christ He has qualified us to share in his inheritance He has brought us into his kingdom He has given us fulness in Christ Next time: What we should do for him. --- [1] The English word subjugate comes from two Latin words sub and jugum. The jugum was the yoke that was placed on cattle. Sub means under. People taken captive by Rome were made to walk sub jugum or ‘beneath the yoke'. A symbolic ‘yoke' was constructed for this purpose with the use of three spears placed in the shape of the Greek letter pi – Π. Captives were forced to walk beneath this which meant that they were to be treated worse than cattle. To be ‘subjugated' in this way was the greatest humiliation known to the enemies of Rome.

Revelation 3Welcome back to Moments with MoniI'm so glad you're here. Today's Episode is on the last three of the seven churches of RevelationA bit about their HistoryHow God revolved Himself to themWhat the commendations were to themWhat the warnings or counsel were to themWhat the promises are to the OvercomerINTRODUCTIONBlessings and prayers to and for you during this Christmas Season 2020Wether you are able to listen now or later, my prayer is that you digging deeper into God's Word to find the treasures hidden within. Mine God's Word as if you are mining for gold. For His Word is lamp to show us where and how to step and a Light that exposes darkness and all of it's pitfalls Last week we looked at the first four churches of Revelation. The sister Churches in Asia Minor who were sent a letter. That letter came from Jesus to the Angel to John to those in the seven churches to us today. God's word transcends time and is a message to our hearts today. Link previous Episode in show notes If you missed the previous episode you can find the link belowThe next church on the list is Sardis in Revelation 3:1-6Last time I mentioned how important it is to be aware of the Historical and Geographical context of the scripture. It helps us see the writings of the Churches History here in Revelation in the true light. If we just do the reading of the story and make a quick judgement based on our own thoughts, we miss the whole picture. Stories online or stories we read can be fairy tales in our minds eye, and dismissed as such. However, if you look at the Historical and Geographical aspects of these seven churches, we get a “3D” picture of Reality.Sardis, once a part of an Ancient Persian Kingdom, Lydia, with a very polytheistic environment liberated in 340 B.C. Sardis means “escaping” and was one of the seven churches in the Roman Provence of Asia, or Modern Turkey, filled with worship of false gods. Sardis was known for it's gold and wealth. The city was destroyed in the 16th century by the Persian Army. John writes what Jesus told him to say to the church of Sardis. Jesus revealed Himself to the Sardis church as ”One with the seven Spirits of God and seven stars in His hands” and quickly tells them, “ I know your works, that you have a name, a reputation of character and reveals it as one who is alive, but dead. Giving us a picture of a corpse who walks around.... Philadelphia which means “brotherly love”Thirty miles East of Sardis, and about 50 miles from Laodecia, was the church of Philadelphia, representing a faithful church. Founded in AD 17. It was the newest of the cities and almost destroyed by earthquakes in that same year. Philadelphia resisted Moslem take over, and became an island of Christianity.Jesus revealed Himself to the Philadelphia church as, He who has the Keys of David and He that opens the door that no one can shut, and what He shuts, no one can open. If you studied through the Covenant Series here on Moments with Moni, you might remember the Covenant with David that proclaimed a descendant of his would forever more sit on the throne for eternity. Yes, here is the fulfillment of the New Covenant. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, He now holds the Keys to death and Hell, and is sitting at the right Hand of God, waiting until the time that God puts all of His enemies under his feet. His work is done, and He is waiting in Heaven To the Church in Philadelphia Jesus says, I know your works and that you have just a little strength left. I also know that you have obeyed my Word and have not denied my name...... Most Bible Scholars see the hour of trial as prophetic reference to the Great...

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 4, 2020 5:33

Wherever you are listening to this podcast episode, the one thing I know about you, you are going through a transition. Life stops for none of us. Time waits for no man.Think for a moment about life's transitions:High School to collegeCollege to careerDependent on your parents to becoming independent=MarriageChildrenCareer changesMoving from apartment to apartment to purchasing a homeRetirementAging - health transitionsPassing from this life and transitioning to Heaven“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)Today, as I record this podcast, it's election day here in the U.S. At the time of this recording I don't know the outcome of the election. What I do know though, is that regardless of who is elected, change is coming. This is life.So what do we do during times of transition? Let me give you a couple of things that have helped me.1. Listen for God's voice.During our times of transition, God speaks.  Consider:Moses - Expelled from Egypt, he became a shepherd in a wilderness place. It was there God spoke.Joseph - Sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, land in an Egyptian dungeon. It was there God spoke.Saul of Tarsus - Newly converted to Christ, finds himself secluded away in Arabia. It was there God spoke.Apostle John - Exiled to the Island of Patmos, writes the great account of the revelation of Jesus Christ at the end of the age. It was there God spoke. We desperately need to listen for the voice of God, because other voices are competing. Voices of distraction. Voices of misunderstanding. Voices of fear. Voices of anxiety. Voices of anger.  But there is a still small voice that speaks to our hearts with peace and guidance and He reminds us that everything will be okay because He is with us.2. Hold onto the promises of God.In a culture of unfulfilled promises, our God can be trusted. Thousands of promises are found in the pages of the Bible.“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” (2 Corinthians 1:20)The promises of God are not “I don't know” or “maybe so.” The promises of God are “yes” in Jesus Christ.  Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of God's promises to us.While most things in our lives will change there is one thing that is eternal and it never changes.God never changesHis love for us never changesHis Word never changesHis faithfulness never changesThe God of yesterday is the God of today, and the God of today is the God of tomorrow.Today's Challenge: During our times of transition it's so easy to be anxious, worried, and afraid. Refuse to give into this temptation. Decide that even though the future is unclear, you will trust the God you know. He has already proven his faithfulness to you, and during this time of transition, he will not fail. Church in the Peak

Neal continued our series on Spiritual Gifts looking at worship. We apologise for the poor quality of this audio recording. This morning we looked at the difference being Baptised in the Holy Spirit makes to our worship. We started by looking at Ephesians 5 vs 18-20 where we are encouraged to be filled with the Holy Spirit and make music to the Lord. Worship is about Jesus, For Jesus and to Jesus and Chris Tomlin says this “ Worship centers our minds attention and our hearts affection on the Lord. Its not something we do out of obligation but rather is a response to who God is and what he has done – It’s a heart Response.” What does the bible say about worship? Psalm 149 vs 4 – The Lord inhabits the praise of his people Psalm 16 vs 11 – In thy presence is fullness of joy Psalm 22 vs 3 – The Lord is enthroned on the Praises of his people Matthew 18 vs 20 – Where two or three are gathered in my name – There I am in the Midst John 4 vs 23-24 – Worshipers worship in spirit and truth – The father is looking for those that will worship him that way. We looked at how our worship comes together on a Sunday morning – Led by the Holy Spirit and not by us! We start with praise that is generally about Jesus and for Jesus which will lead to worship which is more intimate and is us singing TO Jesus – This is personal and intimate and we looked at the difference between the two – Me talking to Pamela about Julia and the me talking directly TO Julia – what a difference! This personal intimate worship comes out of relationship and is just us and God – no-one else can do this for you – it’s all about your heart attitude and love for God. So often we thing a time of worship is for us – What can I get out of this? We have preferences about particular songs or a style of worship which can hinder us worshiping Jesus as fully as we should – Time of worship are primarily for Jesus and to Jesus – The fact that when we worship he speaks to us and encourages us shows his heart and how he longs for a people to worship him in spirit and in truth. As we worship we rekindle relationship with God which is what he has always wanted from his people since the fall in the garden of Eden – He longs for his Church to rise up and worship in spirit and truth. So what changes in worship for us as the people of God? It brings joy – It brings strength It beings perspective It brings truth It reveals Gods heart towards us It brings peace It brings increased intimacy – It makes your soul well! It brings restoration It brings Power and Gods presence back to the Church – This is not an option but a necessity! It transforms us from earth to Heaven – To be lost in wonder love and praise gives us a glimpse of heaven! Questions: 1. Terry Virgo says on his book The Spirit Filled Church – “ God is seeking those who will worship him in spirit and in truth, not in temperament and preference” What do you understand by this statement and do you think we miss out sometimes because we rely on temperament and preference? 2. Does intimacy with God in worship seem a long way off, does it concern you that you don’t feel like that? – How can you change this and increase your relationship with God? 3. Bill Johnson says “ When we encounter his divine presence , transformation then occurs which goes beyond the reach of merely good ideas – This is transformation that first takes place within us, that we might cause transformation around us” - This transformation is vital for the Church and our communities around us – How can we play our part and how can worship help us in this?
