Continuing the goal to have more authors on the podcast, author Holly Davis joins me to talk about her journey as an author and her first published book. We kick things off by going back in time. To a time where Disney and video games collided to form the Kingdom Hearts franchise. This is where Holly first started her journey, writing fan fiction based in the Kingdom Hearts setting. Holly talks about why fanfic is a great place to start your author journey. From there, she talks about the in-between times, from fanfic, to her real world work, and making time to get her ideas out of her head and into written form. Then we talk about her first published book, "A Diamond Bright & Broken". This book released November of 2024. Holly talks about how she came up with the ideas and story, her characters, and how she based some real world items into the fantasy realm that this book takes place.  Interested in the book? Holly's elevator pitch includes it being a Tangled retelling with a female Flynn Rider, has a ride or die sister relationship, LGBT representation, and mages with unique magic, to name a few. Holly wraps it up by talking about her advice to those who wish to also start their author journey, and what is to come from her in the future! I love that.”“I used to say, from the macro kind of thing, you know, “You are what you eat”. But I don't think that anymore. I think very much you're what you can digest. That actually, it doesn't matter. You can eat the very best food in the world but if you can't digest it you've got a problem. In an episode right out of the headlines, Susan speaks this week with Celebrity Divorce Attorney, Holly Davis, who represents Dillon Passage, the estranged husband of none other than Joe Exotic, "the Tiger King" of Netflix fame.  Even from behind bars where he is serving a 21 year sentence for attempting to hire a hitman to kill his business rival, Joe Exotic manages to continue to use the media to put his "spin" on his divorce from his husband and Holly joins us to set the record straight.   Although most people are interested in celebrity divorces for the drama and trauma, there are much deeper lessons to be learned and Holly's strong message to her client, and to listeners, is that there is a great deal power in choosing to take the high road in your divorce process.  We walk through the benefits of not engaging in the hijinks and mudslinging that your spouse may choose to engage in.  You can take the high road, as Dillon Passage has chosen to do, so be sure to listen, get the facts and get on that high road today! On this week's episode, Host Susan Guthrie is joined by top family law attorney, Holly Davis, to discuss the fascinating celebrity divorce of Ben and Julianna Zobrist, which has been playing out for months in the media with allegations of fraud.  Susan and Holly unpack the claims and bring a dose of reality into the conversation to help you to understand the role of fraud in divorce. Former Chicago Cubs pitcher, Ben Zobrist has been very vocal in his allegations and claims of fraud in his divorce proceeding but is any of it true and if it is, what effect does it actually have on the divorce?  Top family law attorney, Holly Davis discussed the facts of the case and what the legal effect of Ben's position is when it comes to a final judgment from the court.  It is not unusual for a disgruntled spouse to cast aspersions on their ex, but is it just legal positioning or will it actually affect the outcome and sway the judge in court? Find out in this fascinating episode! Some of the topics we discuss: Judges are supposed to be neutral, but will facts like this tend to push them to one party's side?  How can an allegation of fraud play out in a divorce case? Does it become a separate case, or do the two legal cases become combined? How would a finding of fraud manifest in a final divorce decree?  How commonly does fraud come up in divorce cases?  Does having an affair increase the risk of being accused of fraud in a divorce proceeding? Can Zobrist make any other claims, like "mental anguish"?  More information About This Week's Special Guest:  Holly Davis Holly R. Davis is a founding partner of Kirker Davis LLP. Change management can be a whole conversation to have with teammates. Sometimes things happen so fast that the ability to adapt is a must to achieve what we plan. Keeping the team in a positive mindset is part of the leader's job. This also happens inside companies when things go wrong.  THE ART OF VEGETABLE FERMENTATION Have you ever wanted to ferment vegetables but thought it was a bit too hard? Perhaps you’re an avid fermenter but need to know more. In this new segment I find out that it’s actually easy to start fermenting. Holly describes herself as an 'old fermenter.' Jokes aside, what's the first thing you need to know before you start fermenting any vegetable. Do you need high end equipment? Let’s find out more.   Fermenting is a process that happens in the absence of air. It turns out that a clip lock jar or a glass jar with a screw top lid would suffice. Or you can use a plastic jar. NOTE: the lid needs to have a coating on it which most would have if they were on jars that were bought with food in them. These jars are perfect for re-purposing for fermenting. Cabbages and other root vegetables are ideal for fermenting. METHOD: PICK a cabbage that is heavy for it's size, preferably an organic one. Should be dense and tightly packet. STRIP off outer leaves. CUT the cabbage into four and cut the heart out of it. SHRED your cabbage finely, Holly likes it between 3-5mm in width so it has some crunchy. If your ferment comes out mushy then air has entered into the process. ADD 20gms of fine ground sea-salt to every kilo of cabbage. RUB sea salt into cabbage until it releases moisture-make sure it's vigorous , releasing plenty of liquid. There should be enough liquid to completely submerge the cabbage in the jar. STUFF into a jar and cover with the liquid. PLACE one of the previously discarded whole leaves on top of the shredded cabbage in the jar. I’m talking with Holly Davis, whole food chef, and educator. She's also criss-crossed this country - literally - working in (in order mind you) Indianapolis, Washington D.C., Seattle Washington, Austin Texas and back to Indiana. During her cross country travels Josh began to seen a change in Holly. She has always been a strong advocate for woman's rights - especially championing them in a male dominated political climate in Indiana - but as a mother of three daughters he has seen her compassion for many considered down trodden grow over the years often questioning what she considered her own party's stance on certain issues. But first and foremost, she has been a strong and vocal advocate for women. ***Sign up today for the Nomad News Letter! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thepoliticalnomad/support

Our most nourishing meals are not simply those that fill our bellies. Today, chef, teacher, and author Holly Davis helps us explore the many facets to deep nourishment:  Taste. Texture. Simplicity. Beauty. Appropriateness. This conversation is not a how-to, really, or a lecture on what we should and shouldn't do. Rather, it's a gentle reminder to become intentional about how we approach eating and serving others.  We take Holly's book, Nourish, as a starting point. From there, we discuss the value of sustainable food production, and of knowing where our food comes from. Holly sprinkles in advice for parents of picky eaters. She talks about how the "five element theory" can be a guide while cooking. And she points to the role our attitude plays as we put together a meal that truly nurtures both the body and the spirit.
