Original broadcast date April 18, 2019. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2019/04/binary-system-podcast-173-welcome-to-night-vale-146-the-birthday-of-lee-marvin/ On this week's Night Vale recap it's time to grab a plate of imaginary corn with some theoretical butter and celebrate the birthday of Lee Marvin and...wait, hang on....we've been here before... https://pixelatedgeek.com/2018/12/binary-system-podcast-156-wtnv-139-the-birthday-of-lee-marvin/ Yes it's Lee Marvin's birthday again. Every day is Lee Marvin's birthday. The sun may go cold and the forests of the dark planet go silent and Lee Marvin will still sit in his house and have the same number of cornflakes for breakfast every day forever. ('Scuse us, we've freaked ourselves out and now we're going to go hide under the bed.) To cheer ourselves up, we also talk about the new Star Wars trailer and the ReyLo shippers (bless you guys: we don't ship Rey and Kylo Ren but you sure have some nice fanart https://twitter.com/BinarySystemPod/status/1116884721886085121), and then mention The Good Place, Russian Doll, Umbrella Academy, Doctor Who, Narcos Mexico, and all the other shows that one or both of us really need to finish watching. This week's outro music is a clip from The Day I Die (Simplified) by TeknoAxe. https://youtu.be/3Xeas8WHA3s Correction: the creator of the Mountain Goats who is featured on the podcast I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats is John Darnielle. (We may not want to listen to an hour-long discussion about Sicilian Crest, but we did like the song.) https://youtu.be/3Xeas8WHA3s

I Only Listen to 90s Music talks to one of the best DJs to come out of St. Louis the infamous DJ Kut. They talk to DJ Kut about how he got into being a DJ, spinning music during the beginnings of hip hop in St. Louis (before Nelly blew up), how a touring with Cedric “The Entertainer” changed his life, how a great DJ can change the tempo of any occasion for the good or bad, and his time working at Power 105 in New York was a culmination of everything he learned being in St. Louis about music. He also joins the team to discuss black and white album covers, the reality show featuring former 90s R&B singers, and they revisit the Soul Train Awards of 1989. email the show at ionlylistento90smusic@gmail.com or straightolc@gmail.com. John Darnielle, for those who are not in the know, is the front man, musician and head writer for the awesome band The Mountain Goats as well as a poet, an author - most notably of two novels "Wolf in White Van" and "Universal Harvester" - and podcast co-host for I Only Listen To The Mountain Goats. He also happens to love movies, specifically slasher horror films, and they have influenced or inspired some of his writing. So, after hearing many interviews with him about music and literature, I thought the world deserved John Darnielle's take on films and his fandom for them.We talk Spider-Man, Hellraiser, Death Wish, Charles Bronson, Universal Harvester, writing, books, vhs, authenticity, music and so much more. It's a fascinating, one of a kind chat with a unique person - take a listen and enjoy!!The Mountain Goats new album In League With Dragons is released on April 26th and can be pre-ordered from http://www.mountain-goats.com/John Darnielle is also the co-host of the podcast "I Only Listen to The Mountain Goats" which is available wherever podcasts can me found. Welcome to the Summer of Night Vale Presents, a celebration and sampling of some of the shows across our network. This week: a look at two of our non-fiction shows, I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats and Conversations with People Who Hate Me. I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats is a show about what it means to be an artist, to be a fan, and as many people are, both at once. Our first season found Welcome to Night Vale creator Joseph Fink in conversation with John Darnielle, singer and songwriter of the Mountain Goats, about their album All Hail West Texas. You'll hear an excerpt from episode 9, “The Mess Inside,” which shows how these conversations wander through topics in unexpected ways. Conversations with People Who Hate Me is a show where Dylan Marron, whom you may know as Carlos the Scientist on Welcome to Night Vale, takes contentious online conversations and moves them offline. This year, Dylan has been moderating conversations between people who have exchanged their own online negativity. You'll hear the entirety of episode 12, “Burned at the Stake,” featuring a woman who wrote about why the TV show The Office doesn't hold up to today's standards and a man who told her she should be burned at the stake. Find out more about these shows, and all of the shows on our network, by visiting nightvalepresents.com. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Conversations with People Who Hate Me is a show where Dylan Marron, whom you may know as Carlos the Scientist on Welcome to Night Vale, takes contentious online conversations and moves them offline. This year, Dylan has been moderating conversations between people who have exchanged their own online negativity. You’ll hear the entirety of episode 12, “Burned at the Stake,” featuring a woman who wrote about why the TV show The Office doesn’t hold up to today’s standards and a man who told her she should be burned at the stake. Deirdre Gardner finds a lost cassette tape from 1992 in the attic of a townhouse in an abandoned golf-course community and embarks on a mission to remind us all of the forgotten musical genius, Wim Faros. It Makes A Sound follows Deirdre’s nostalgic journey into Wim’s legacy: a quest to restore what is missing and to revive the sound of a generation. Created by Jacquelyn Landgraf (actor, writer, director, and downtown theater curio; a longtime member of the New York Neo-Futurists), with original music by Nate Weida. Co-directed by Anya Saffir. Sound design and engineering by Vincent Cacchione. Featuring the voices of Jacquelyn Landgraf, Annie Golden (Orange is the New Black, Hair), Nate Weida, Melissa Mahoney, Siobhan Fallon (Saturday Night Live, Wayward Pines), and other special guests. Produced by Night Vale Presents, the network that brought you Welcome to Night Vale, Alice Isn’t Dead, Within the Wires, The Orbiting Human Circus (of the Air), Conversations with People Who Hate Me, and I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats. A collaboration between Night Vale Presents, the Mountain Goats, and Merge Records, I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats is a podcast about what it means to be an artist, what it means to be a fan, and what it means to be, as many people are, both at once. The show finds Joseph Fink, creator of Welcome to Night Vale and Alice Isn’t Dead, in conversation with one of his artistic heroes, John Darnielle, singer and songwriter of the Mountain Goats. Season One explores the stories behind the Mountain Goats’ album All Hail West Texas, one song at a time. In each episode, John, Joseph, and special guests discuss songwriting, storytelling, current events, and the art and artists that inspire them. Each episode will also premiere a brand new cover version of the song discussed that week, recorded just for the podcast by artists like Amanda Palmer, Andrew Bird, and Dessa. Season One of I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats premieres September 28, 2017. Produced by Christy Gressman. From Night Vale Presents, the network that brought you Welcome to Night Vale, Alice Isn’t Dead, Within the Wires, The Orbiting Human Circus (of the Air), and Conversations with People Who Hate Me.
