John “JR” Robinson is one of the best and maybe the most recorded drummer of the modern era. His Bio is out of this world. You definitely know his playing, because he's played on just about every song ever recorded. Here's just a couple. He's the guy who played that legendary drum fill in Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" from “Off The Wall”, the spectacular intro to Steve Winwood's No. 1 hit, "Higher Love" from “Back In The High Life”, and he was the drummer on “We Are The World”. In total he's played on over 10,000 recording sessions, 500 movie and television soundtracks, 30 No. 1 hit records, and 50 Grammy winners. He's been named one of Rolling Stone's "Top 100 Drummers of All Time". And he's worked with a Who's Who in music including Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Chaka Khan, Lady Gaga, Peter Frampton, George Benson, Elton John, Madonna, Marvin Hamlisch, and Barbra Streisand, to name just a few. And he's written a biography called “King Of The Groove”. My featured song is “The Rich Ones All Stars”, my recent single. RSS/iTunes/Spotify Check out the full We Do Our Own Stunts archive right here Before we get to the sublime (POLICE STORY) we need to experience the ridiculous, and it doesn’t get much more ridiculous than 1985’s HEART OF DRAGON which features Jackie taking care of his developmentally delayed brother (played by Sammo Hung) even though he really just wants to be on the SWAT Team.. or a police officer.. or a sailor. While sometimes a total disaster (the Sammo antics are NOT GREAT) it also features some extraordinary choreography (from Yuen Biao), particularly in the Japanese version we watched for this episode that has TWO extra fight scenes and closing credits outtakes. Hear some conflicted opinions on this episode of WE DO OUR OWN STUNTS! Today's guest makes me feel blessed because his story illustrates just how fortunate I am. Meet Jon Muq. He's a singer/songwriter from Austin TX via Uganda. Growing up, music was not a presence in his life. But sound was. He grew up without electricity so music was not a priority. But once he discovered music, it became an obsession; particularly the song We Are The World. Jon learned to play guitar on a borrowed acoustic. His first gig was playing in a hotel for food. The first song he ever wrote was for a friend in need. He began posting his music to social media which landed him a gig on Norwegian Cruise Lines. That gig was a huge culture shock. But once his contract was over, he was stuck in the Bahamas. He made his way to Austin and met people who helped him. But because of his visa, he wasn't allowed to perform for three years. Jon tells me how Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys found the videos he was posting and reached out to him. After spending time getting to know each other, they went into the studio. It took a grand total of four days to make Jon's debut, Flying Away. We talk about Jon's approach to writing, his next album, and his theory on perimeters and burritos. Follow Jon on social media @jonmuq. Check out jonmuq.com for more information. Follow us @PerformanceAnx. Grab merch at performanceanx.threadless.com. Send money through ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. De do do do, de da da da和Every Breath You Take.

Gabe's topless post game show. Doug likes Gabe's topless business model.(31:21-58:10) We Are The World. Doug sees a sweep coming today. You like this Pallante fella, do ya? Nolan Arenado gotta be itching to come back seeing where this team is. Up in Jupiter? Martin's not gonna step down on this one. 47th Anniversary Meatloaf. Thank you, farmers. Ken Rosenthal follows up his article on Marmol by saying he expects him back at the helm next year. Pegged into tomorrow. Talking Santas.(58:20-1:23:40) Did Martin cross paths with Chris Farley at Marquette? The Matt Foley character was inspired by Farley's dad. Notable Marquette alumni. Jackson doesn't like cameo porn. Live Aid may have been the cultural event for Gen X'ers just as Woodstock was for their baby boomer parents. Bob Geldof had led a group of British pop artists to the charity single Do They Know It's Christmas? That inspired US artists to create We Are The World. Both singles were to aid millions of starving people in Africa who were suffering from severe drought and broken politics. The huge success of the songs lead Geldof to be even more ambitious in coordinating a dual continent live concert with the biggest stars of the day (and with some legends as well) to raise money for Africa. On July 13, 1985 artists gathered in Wembley Stadium in London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and MTV broadcast 15 hours of programming which we ate up! Though a million things could have gone wrong, the day was an amazing event that raised money and awareness for a dire situation and brought together the most incredible lineup of talent. This is the first of 3 parts commemorating this incredible event. Here we'll breakdown how the singles came together, who came, who didn't, controversies and legacy. We name all the acts on both coasts before breaking down the UK performances before the US feed was piped into the UK. Part 2 will have the primetime acts from the UK and the US and we discuss the now infamous Led Zeppelin performance. But we're really excited about Part 3 which will feature interviews from 2 folks who were in Philadelphia that day - one of whom was an MTV VJ!! Viewed by 1.5 billion people around the world, the MTV broadcast in the US is so memorable for The Wolf and Action Jackson, we couldn't wait to reminisce about it. Talking to one of the original MTV VJs was a dream come true! But that's Part 3, for now listen to our excitement building up to the event, how we snuck off to watch it and the acts stood out early in the broadcast. When we get off of this mountain, you know where we want to go? Straight down the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico. While surveying the week's events as we paddle, which involves … … the genius of Garth Hudson and the magnificent way he looked - “part lumberjack, part Old Testament prophet, part Brahms.” … how Glyn Johns invented the sound of the Eagles. … Carrie Underwood's Inauguration catastrophe. … only male voice choirs or gospel groups should be allowed to perform National Anthems! … fiery, magnificent, sexy, vaguely threatening – the appeal of the great British rock bands. … does a protest track have to be a good song to be effective? … “screw up your eyes and Guns N'Roses, Aerosmith and Van Halen all look preposterous”. … how the Band hooked up with Dylan. … was there ever a more dramatic drop-off from hit singles to album filler than in the Eagles? … can any song called Visions ever be any good? … why there should be more Band tribute acts. ... “any busker within 35 yards is noise pollution!” ... plus birthday guest Roger Millington wonders why we love the Band Aid single but not We Are The World. As Christmas nears, we caught up with the legendary rock vocalist Steve Perry, a certified Rock & Roll Hall of Famer who first made his name as the former lead singer for Journey before going on to a successful solo career with era-defining '80s hits like "Oh Sherrie" and "Foolish Heart." The occasion for this chat is the release of Perry's Holiday themed album of sentimental standards, The Season 3 (his first for Dark Horse Records). Since Steve doesn't do many interviews, Paul seized the opportunity to ask Perry about singing for the late great Quincy Jones on "We Are The World," or the story behind Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" ending up in the finale of HBO's The Sopranos. Paul even made sure to ask Steve to weigh in on the whole Yacht Rock discourse.
