Dónal Martin is an Indie pop songwriter, singer and producer. His influences span from commercial pop and soft rock, to folk singer songwriter music and explores themes of love, loss, and personal struggles through his music, wrapping honest emotion in melodic, catchy production. Off the back of a run of recent releases that have been picking up strong reactions online, Dublin-based songwriter Dónal Martin returns with his new single, ‘January Blues'. Drawing influence from artists like Gavin James, Harry Styles, and The 1975, his music feels both intimate and accessible. ‘January Blues' captures the quiet heaviness that lingers when routines return, days feel shorter, and emotions sit a little closer to the surface in the first part of the new year. ‘January Blues' sees Donal Martin continue to showcase his gift for turning everyday feelings into heartfelt, resonant songs that linger in your head.

This was such a fun episode with Alexandra Potter, it was one of the times I felt like I was just sat down having a cuppa and catching up with a friend. So, I Met This Guy, Alexandra's book that we discuss in this episode is out today and it is such a brilliant read. If you've been experiencing any January Blues this is the one you need to be grabbing. And of course, no episode of Best Book Forward would be complete without book recommendations! Here's everything we mentioned, with links to buy:
In the first episode of the year, Julie and Dave unpack the shifting realities of online marketing and business software. They dive into the idea of the "great decoupling," exploring how AI-powered search tools like ChatGPT are disrupting the long-standing relationship between SEO and website traffic. The conversation also takes a critical look at AI-driven advertising, questioning its efficiency—especially for niche B2B markets where, for now, hands-on, manual management still comes out on top. The episode taps into a common frustration many businesses face: investing heavily in software without seeing meaningful returns. From Red Evo's perspective, technology alone isn't the answer. Julie and Dave make the case for prioritising human experience and expertise over fully automated solutions, emphasising that even the most powerful tools require skilled guidance to deliver real value. The takeaway? Investing in software is smart—but investing in the expertise needed to use it effectively is smarter.

On this episode of “Tommy Talk,” Tommy discusses how to beat those pesky January Blues. The January Blues are something many of us feel without even realizing what they are. They're a dip in mood caused by the post-holiday quiet, dark mornings and nights, chilly weather, and the pressure of having an entire new year ahead of us to “start fresh.” We’re all trying to get back into our routines that make us feel good again. I’m sharing with you the ways to kick those January Blues out the door. Here’s what I do, and just as importantly, here is what I DON’T do. Let’s walk into this new year together, feeling our absolute best. If you’re in need of a little encouragement and a big hug to get the year going, this episode is for you. January hits differently when you're already overwhelmed, overstretched, and running on empty. But it doesn't have to.In this Coaching Corner episode, Tracy Forsyth explores:
PAUL CHANDLER, THE SHY YETI returns to give me a little bit of encouragement.First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on March 9th 2025.At the start of this year I will admit to feeling very fed up, and I spent a lot of time wondering about the future of VISION ON SOUND, and about whether it even had a future, to be honest, or whether the time had come to jack all of this nonsense in. I know that a lot of people get the January Blues and, this year, I was very much one of those people.Happily, because a lot of the reason we turn up on the air each week is because very kind people offer to talk to me about television, and a lot of them had given me their time in December, most of the shows that you've been hearing so far this year were taken from that stockpile of interviews, opinions and conversations, that somehow kept us staggering on through those bleak, cold Sunday evenings at the darkest time of the year.I only recorded one show in January and it was this week's edition, in which I used PAUL CHANDLER, THE SHY YETI himself, as a sounding board, and therapist, to discuss some of the issues that I'd been having, and somehow, over the course of this hour, he managed to cheer me up and persuade me that talking about archive television really isn't the terrible waste of time that I'd been beginning to suspect that it was.I hope you enjoy the next hour, as I think it gave me just a little bit of hope that the things that I continue to persist in doing aren't quite as useless as I sometimes think they are when the midwinter blues have me firmly in their grip.PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.

Dawn and Sarah join Matt to talk about the best Christmas TV and review the first 4 new shows of the new year. Firstly, Sky and Peacock bring us Colin Firth in a harrowing retelling of one man's search for answers following the Lockerbie disaster. Then, James Norton stars as a father who learns he may have brought the wrong baby home from the hospital in ITV's melodramatic airport novel Playing Nice. Then, Channel 4 adapts French drama Astrid: A Murder in Paris, transporting the story of an autistic woman who works in the police records office from Paris to York. The results are mixed to be kind and mind-numbing to be truthful. Finally, the BBC helps fight off the January Blues with the return of The Traitors. All three podcast hosts are already hooked.

January Blues. We all feel it, at least a little bit. It's that after-the-holiday-slump that sneaks up on us a few days into a new year. A recent heart-to-heart with my daughter, Ashton, shines a light on this post-holiday slump as we navigate that pesky joy stealer, disappointment, and its insidious cousins, discouragement and disillusionment. In today's episode, we look at the counsel offered in Joshua 1 and confront the emotional battles that can leave even the strongest among us feeling discouraged. Drawing from our past episode on this topic, we revisit strategies and insights to help lift our spirits and prevent life's inevitable disappointments from becoming overwhelming, discouraging, or disillusionment. As we peer into the year ahead, remember that connection is our lifeline. Whether extending a hand through a simple text message or engaging with our community on social media and through my website, we are not alone in our battles. We don't have to take the journey from disappointment to discouragement to disillusionment! So join us as we continue to have uplifting conversations that will be just what you need!
