Allegations that superstar Michael Tait sexually assaulted multiple young men and boys have rocked the CCM industry. But how culpable are the Newsboys? Host Julie Roys and reporter Jessica Morris discuss.
Nothing shakes the church—and Christian families—like the shattering fall of a trusted leader. With the recent explosive scandal surrounding the Newsboys and Michael Tait, this episode of Christian Parent/Crazy World tackles the urgent, sobering question: Why do so many Christian leaders keep falling, and how can parents respond and lead their families through the fallout of hypocrisy in the church? In this must-listen episode, Catherine sat down with Adam Agee and Jeff Frankenstein of the Newsboys for what was meant to be a joyful, lighthearted Father’s Day special on faith, family, and legacy. Just hours after recording, devastating news of one of the biggest scandals in Christian music history broke—bringing the darker reality of double lives and hidden sin to center stage. The conversation with Adam and Jeff dives into their lives as fathers, their experiences balancing family with the demands of a global touring band, and the multi-generational legacy of the Newsboys. They reflect on the influence of their own fathers, sharing powerful stories of integrity, faith, sacrifice, and steadfastness—qualities now more critical than ever in light of public failures within Christian circles. Yet, as Catherine points out in her heartfelt message at the end of the episode, the discussion takes on new and poignant meaning: what does it mean to be authentic behind closed doors? How do we raise our children in a world where even spiritual heroes fall? And, ultimately, what must the Western church do to break the cycle of idolizing celebrities instead of worshiping Christ alone? Episode highlights: The candid, behind-the-scenes reality of life in a band famous for its ministry and impact over forty years Jeff and Adam’s reflections on fatherhood, work-life balance, and lessons learned from their own dads A moving discussion of legacy—what truly matters when all the spotlight fades Catherine’s unfiltered, Spirit-led call to the church: a challenge to stop worshipping the gifts and start seeking the Giver, to reject celebrity culture, and to “climb the mountain” into God’s presence and holiness The episode closes with a stirring reminder from Catherine: “We must rid ourselves of these idols and climb the mountain to worship the one true God.” Every parent, leader, and believer will find encouragement, conviction, and hope in the call to stop seeking our own glory and to, instead, turn our eyes upon Jesus. Guest Bios: Adam Agee is Newsboys’ newest lead singer, formerly part of Audio Adrenaline and Stellar Kart, a veteran musician and devoted dad. Jeff Frankenstein has been the Newsboys’ keyboardist for over thirty years, a father of five, and a thoughtful leader both on and off stage. Takeaways: How Christian parents can help their kids process the pain of public scandal and hypocrisy in the church Why integrity at home—and in private—is the cornerstone of spiritual legacy A biblical reminder that the Western church must stop elevating personalities and start seeking God’s presence above all For listeners shaken or disillusioned by recent events in the church, this episode delivers both realism and a rallying cry to return to Christ—our only true foundation and fortress. Jessica Morris, the Australian journalist behind the investigation into former Newsboys and DC Talk frontman Michael Tait, says her intent was never to dismantle the Christian music industry, but to help protect those within it. Morris’s reporting, published by The Roys Report, contains sexual misconduct allegations from multiple men against Tait — allegations that, at the time of the interview, had not been tested in court. But they were the result of years of careful investigation and corroboration. Today on Connections, Morris shares the details of her two and a half year investigation.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
"The love of God for me is an all-welcoming, accepting, warm presence. It's miraculous because how I viewed God growing up was the complete opposite. He's my best friend, my father, my mother—my everything. I have absolute and complete trust in Him, which I never thought was possible." —Jessica MorrisSHOW NOTESEPISODE HIGHLIGHTS Jessica's journey highlights the importance of vulnerability in healing. Addiction is portrayed as a powerful and evil force. Recovery is a process that requires support and community. Eschatology can be understood as personal transformation rather than just end times. Prayer (a natural conversation) is a vital part of connecting with God. Writing serves as a therapeutic outlet for Jessica. The church can be redefined as a supportive community. Authenticity is key in spiritual journeys. God's presence can be felt physically and emotionally. We can go to him in any form, in any mood, and He's gonna receive us the same way. Lean into God and ask God to walk me through this with grace. All we have to do is ask and then receive. "Thank you, God, for these circumstances. Help me to trust You to work in them. This prayer changed how I approached my cancer diagnosis, shifting me from self-pity to deep trust in God's presence." —Jessica MorrisINTERVIEWING JESUS SHOW NOTES and Guest ConnectionConnect with KristenIJP Facebook CommunityInstagram #interviewingjesuspodcast #livingspirituallybraveTwitter XLinkedInLinkTreeWebsite KristenWambach.comThank you for spending this time with me. Asheville city leaders have had a “Complete Streets” policy in place for more than a decade—that is, a commitment to make streets as friendly to cyclists and pedestrians as they are to cars and trucks. We've seen that policy take shape in the form of so-called road diets along Charlotte Street and North Merrimon Avenue and the Riverside Drive Greenway. It's also the reason College Street and Patton Avenue are about to each lose a lane of automotive traffic to make room for bike lanes. And predictably, city officials are hearing a chorus of protests from people who envision apocalyptic traffic.Jessica Morris is the assistant director of the city's transportation department. She talks with us today about the coming changes downtown and how they're tied to the city's master plan. We get into how the city prioritizes and funds these projects. Jessica also does her best to make sense of projects that, to many, don't seem to make sense at all.Get five news headlines from around Asheville in your morning inbox. Pregnancy and childbirth is often assumed to be an exciting and joyous event. However, one in four pregnancies ends in loss. Many families who lose a baby feel alone and suffer in silence, which is exactly what the Perinatal Palliative Care Team at Woman's Hospital is working to change. Jessica Morris and Megan Haley, two of the labor and delivery nurses on that team, understand pregnancy and infant loss from both a personal and professional perspective. In honor of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month and Woman's upcoming Walk to Remember, we sat down with them to talk about all the work they are doing to help others remember and honor their own babies.
Jessica and I discuss her life as the child of alcoholic, pastor, addiction recovery, and her sinful hatred of Star Wars.
