Fr. Daniel Alloy, FSSP has served as Parochial Vicar at Regina Caeli Parish in Houston, Texas since July of 2022. He was ordained in June of 2020.     In Today's Show  How come the Orthodox Church celebrated Easter on May 5th and we celebrated Easter on March 31st? Will more recent/future Saints ever be added to the traditional calendar? Other than Holy Week, are there any other main differences between an older missal, for example St Andrew's Daily Missal, and an Angelus Press 1962 Missal? I have a friend who's confused about how and why God built the church upon Peter. How could it be possible to build an entire church upon one person? And what does the name "The Rock" really mean in all of this? Why do all the scriptures say that Jesus was crucified, died, buried and rose again on the 3rd day? Yet the time between Good Friday at 3pm and Easter Sunday sometime before sunrise isn't close to 3 days. Day 1 would be Saturday at 3pm, Day 2 would be Sunday at 3pm, and the third day would be some time Monday before 3pm. I confessed a sin that I still feel very guilty about, partially because I was never honest with the person whom that sin would have affected had they known what I did. Can you tell me, because I confessed the sin, does that mean God will forgive me and I will end up in heaven? Should priests be bearded? My husband and I are in the process of creating a Health Care Proxy. The attorney sent us a standard form, which basically says 'no to all measures', but we can make changes before it is finalized. What of these options, if any, go against Catholic teaching? I'm thinking possibly the ones about not giving food or water, but we want to do the right thing: No Cardiac Resuscitation, No Mechanical Respiration, No Artificial Feedings, No Artificial Hydration, No Antibiotics. It seems that those who are unable to physically receive Holy Communion are usually told to make an act of Spiritual Communion instead. However, I have seen an old 19th century Irish prayer manual state that one must first be properly disposed to make a spiritual communion, and must therefore be in a state of grace. Is this true? If so, what should a person do who is in a state of mortal sin and also thus impeded from making at least a spiritual act of communion? If one blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, does that person become totally possessed and evil in his daily actions?   If you love Ask A Priest Live, now is the time to let us know by making your generous donation of any size today! Can you be on your spiritual path and still get angry? This episode was inspired by an Instagram DM question I received and I loved it! We are all of if and this sparked me to record an episode on this. When I became aware that I was ALL of it and not wrong for having anger…I began to feel more free than I ever have before. Judgment is any fixed point of view that someone or something has to be a certain way. And what if anger is not wrong? The moment we judge it as being wrong or right, we create separation and turn off our awareness's from life.  IN THIS EPISODE, I TALK ABOUT:First thing to do when you are aware you're angry is - get curious. Ask a question after you get curious - What is this? Is there any information here that I need to know? Do not judge yourself for having anger. Get curious. What if it's great information about someone or something that you need to know in order to make a choice in your life.  CLASSES:If you're interested in creating your life AND generating REAL change and potency in 2022, I invite you to join my CREATE YOUR LIFE “Annual Planning Workshop” in January 2022. ST. PETER JULIAN EYMARD | APOSTLE OF THE EUCHARIST Feast Day: AUGUST 2 Today, we bring to you the life story of St. Peter Julian Eymard, the saint whose driving passion in life was Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. He is the Founder of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament. He was born in Le Mure, Isere, France on February 4, 1811. His family was a devout Catholic and immediately he learned about Jesus in the Eucharist. Even as a child he used to enter the church by himself and kneel before the Tabernacle. It is related that when he was five years old, he did not go home after playing. His sister looked for him and found him in the church, standing on a stool close to the Tabernacle. When asked what he was doing, his answer was “I am listening to Jesus.” As a young boy, he expressed his desire to become a priest, but his father opposed his vocation. He, however, entered a seminary, but he got seriously ill and went out. When he got well, he tried another and was successful. He was ordained on July 20, 1834 at the age of 23. He was assigned in a parish at the Diocese of Grenoble. Peter Julian's spirituality was influenced by Jansenism, a heresy which focusses on the sinfulness of man and on predestination that was why he lived a life of penance and reparation, avoiding sin at all cost. Already a diocesan priest, he joined the Society of Mary (Marists) and professed the three vows on August 20, 1839. He visited Marian shrines and made contacts with Eucharistic movements. He was drawn more to a contemplative life despite the many administrative duties given to him, and worked hard notwithstanding his fragile health. His favorite homilies were about the Eucharist and he had an intense attraction to the Eucharistic Jesus. When he was tasked to write a new rule for the Third Order of the Society of Mary, he suggested a Eucharistic rule, but that was not the charism of the Marists. A little later, still desirous to dedicate himself more to the exaltation of the Eucharist, he made a painful decision to leave the Marists and worked to establish an institute with a Eucharistic orientation. Fr. Eymard found support in Archbishop Marie Dominique Auguste, who understood his desire to emphasize not only the Holy Mass, Eucharistic adoration, but also to evangelize and serve those who were far from the Church. Young men joined him, the institute grew and the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament (SSS – Societa Sanctissimi Sacramenti) was approved on May 13, 1856. He also founded a congregation for women called Servants of the Blessed Sacrament, whose main work is Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Besides preaching he also wrote books about the Eucharist. Three years before his death in 1865, he made a retreat in Rome. He related that he discovered the great love of Jesus for him and in response he desired to make a gift of himself to Jesus. Being always fragile in health, he died of a complication from a stroke on August 1st, 1868 at age 57. He was beatified on July 12, 1925 and was canonized on December 9, 1962. His incorrupt body lies at the Blessed Sacrament Fathers' Chapel in Paris. “St. Peter Julian, you discovered in the Eucharist the great love of Jesus for you and the world. Help us to love Jesus in the Eucharist and receive Him worthily in Holy Communion.” Do I have time to visit Jesus in the Tabernacle or at least make a Spiritual Communion whenever I pass by a church? Do I receive Jesus often in Holy Communion?

It is also called the Sacrament of Sacraments, because through this Sacrament God comes into us. What a great privilege we have. You see! God becomes one with us. This union is greater than the union between husband and wife. That's why very rightly it is called "Holy Communion". God desires to be united with us. And so He established the Sacraments. Through His Mystical Body, the Catholic Church, Jesus asks us to participate at least on Sundays. Even on normal days, there must have been times when you might have not able really able to participate in It. And now during this most challenging and unpredictable time of the pandemic, most of us are not able to participate in it even if one really wants to. What should one do to have the Communion with God? There is an age-old Spiritual Practice, called Spiritual Communion. Without it, life is impossible. We cannot usually see the reality of the Most Holy Eucharist. Quotes on it by many Saints speak volumes about it. St. Padre Pio says: “It would be easier for the world to survive without the sun than to do without the Holy Eucharistic Celebration." Is he very serious about what he said? He must be! Because Jesus said, "Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me." (John 6:57) Let's live this reality and take advantage of it to the maximum! Now, as we are NOT able to participate in it, what shall we do? 1. “The old stone circles that predate the Celtic era by centuries were the first meeting places, erected to put people into correct alignment and spiritual communion with past, present, and future, and with all the beings no longer living as well as those yet to be born.” - Caitlin Matthews, The Celtic Spirit, p. 119. ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞ What happens as we “create the story space”? Like those prehistoric stone circles, the created story space may serve as a place where the past and the future can live together in the present moment. When our family gathers and we begin to share stories of loved ones who have died, we are engaged in “spiritual communion with past, present, and future.” While my family would roll their eyes as such lofty language and ideals, I'd argue that, through our storytelling, we are inviting the departed back into our circle. We are inviting them to come alive for us. There is this commonplace marvel of a break in the space/time continuum through storytelling: Let's take, as an example, stories shared in my family about our Uncle Dudley. My brother, sister-in-law, Mom, adult niece, and I laugh at the antics of Uncle Dudley as we remember him and his ways, while, in the same moment and at the same table, my children, my niece's children, and the other younger members of our family are also laughing because they, too, “know” Uncle Dudley. They, however, have no actual memories of him - they know him only through the stories. They appreciate his goofy antics. They see his smile, but their experience is not “memory” as it is for the elders; their experience is imagining - and, over the years, as more Uncle Dudley stories are told and retold, their imaginings are re-imagined and “memory” is built through their imaginations - memory of story told and told again. We are all in the realm of uncertain images. My memories are not identical to my brother's - though we have a great deal of overlap and we can both “picture” Uncle Dudley. For the younger generation the “picturing” is different, some of them may have seen photos of Uncle Dudley, many of them have not - they are deciding in their mind's eye what he looked like, imagining the sound of his voice or his gestures. Uncle Dudley died in 1978, but is he present with us? Is he smiling as we smile? Is he laughing with those who were not yet born when he left us? Nearly every traditional culture throughout the history of humanity would answer these questions in the affirmative, with a simple and unpretentious “yes.” ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞ Storytelling is communion, for many it is “spiritual communion.” Film, books, letters, and artifacts allow us to “touch the past.” The well-told tale also enables the past to breathe again. When we share a story with someone who is younger we can give them some taste, some touch, some smell of what was. Sometimes a story of pain or sorrow from the past is a gift that will strengthen, educate, or embolden the next generation; sometimes a story of lightness or joy will water beneficial seeds. Think of one story from the past that you want to tell. What person of the past will you bring to life for your listeners? (Music: Courtesy of Adrian Von Ziegler, "Sacred Earth." )
