This week on the podcast, we're excited to meet more of the Sumner family — because we're watching the Uchū Sentai Kyuranger episode "Space.16: Stinger's Reunion With His Brother"! What sub-plot of the series do they pitch out and then snatch away? Who goes full Spider-Man? And how can a Kamen Rider kick be a tragedy? The answers to these questions (and more!) await, on this episode of the Ranger Danger Kyuranger podcast!
Lexi gushes Withering Heights, both the book and movie. Adam talks about the avatar novels and his foray into Heated Rivalry while comparing it to Kinn/Porsche. Somehow, he doesn't mention Ascendance of a Bookworm or Kamen Rider. He'll probably remember in March.
This episode of the Toku Secrets Podcast is being released early in honor of Project Red's Gavan Infinity. As that project approaches release, we wanted to step back and revisit the very beginning—showing the roots of Gavan, the themes it established, and the foundation that continues to shape what is coming this season. By revisiting Episodes 1–4, this discussion provides historical and thematic context for longtime fans and newcomers alike as Gavan Infinity brings the franchise forward. Originally developed as a solo-hero alternative to Kamen Rider, Uchuu Keiji Gavan was designed so audiences could jump in immediately without prior franchise knowledge—an approach that helped define the Metal Heroes identity. This week on the podcast, it's Quickstrike VS Scorponok — because we're watching the Uchū Sentai Kyuranger episode "Space.13: Stinger's Challenge To His Brother"! What reminds us of Power Rangers SPD ? What reminds us of DOOM (2005) ?! And — who's actually a Kamen Rider?? The answers to these questions (and more!) await, on this episode of the Ranger Danger Kyuranger podcast!

It's time again for the Kawaii-Fi Anime Awards! As we do each January, we're looking back on the past year of anime! Each team member picks out their favourite shows across categories featuring genres, music and art – and we also touch on those they'd rather forget! We won't be able to capture all the great shows from 2025, so sound off in the comments with your picks for each category! Our rules for award eligibility:- An anime must have finished airing in 2025. This means a broadcast run ending before December 31st, 2024 in Japan. This includes anime that began their run in 2024 and finished in 2025 (ie 2-cour series that run into the new year).- Anime which are ongoing from the previous year (eg Cat's Eye, Tojima want's to be a Kamen Rider etc) do not qualify for these awards, but are eligible for the 2026 awards once their broadcast run ends.- Anime films must have had a true international release (cinema or digital) in this calendar year to qualify. This week on the Normal Nerds Podcast, we break down one of the biggest anime weeks of the year in our weekly anime recap podcast. We start with the My Hero Academia finale, closing the book on nearly 10 years of My Hero Academia anime. We discuss why the final episode worked emotionally, how Deku's story wrapped up, standout character moments, and why this ending deserved way more hype across the anime community. From there, we cover a packed lineup of current anime episodes:Spy x Family Season 3 delivers peak comedy and rising tension, with Yor, Yuri, and Loid caught between absurd misunderstandings and a serious espionage plot. One Punch Man Season 3 continues to disappoint with skipped fight scenes, poor animation choices, and changes that undercut the manga's impact.Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider proves it's one of the most underrated anime of the season, featuring a brutal tournament fight and excellent character development.May I Ask You One Final Thing? brings sharp action, humor, and an unforgettable after-credits scene.Gachiakuta Episode 23 slows the pace before setting up massive future storylines. And finally, One Piece Episode 1153 delivers an all-time great moment with Joy Boy, Conqueror's Haki, and lore revelations that shake the entire series. We dive into anime reviews, episode breakdowns, animation quality, storytelling payoffs, and the moments that should have broken the internet but somehow didn't.If you're looking for a weekly anime podcast, anime episode reviews, or honest discussions on My Hero Academia, One Piece, Spy x Family, and seasonal anime, this episode is loaded from start to finish.Support the show

Political analyst Tobias Harris (Founder & Principal of Japan Foresight) joins the pod to break down the foundations of Japan's government system, how it compares to the U.S., and why voters view politics the way they do. We explore the major and emerging parties shaping the landscape, the issues driving debate today, and how international pressures and global events influence domestic policy. Weekly Anime Recap time! Maxwell and Davis go full send on eight shows: My Hero Academia (S9E6) keeps cooking as Deku dives into Shigaraki's core—ghost-quirk chorus, blackwhip feints, and hype BGM galore. Spy x Family (S3E6/7) is pure gold with the Red Circus bus hijack, Anya/Becky chaos, Fiona & “Scruffy” collateral damage, and a cliffhanger that had us yelling. Meanwhile One Punch Man… yikes. A dragon-level showdown that should've been peak ends up stiff and lifeless—our biggest disappointment of the week. Balance restored by Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider (ep. 6): heroic punch of the season, sister's shop comedy, and a villain beatdown that absolutely rules. May I Ask You One Last Question? brings slick fights and character moments, SANDA delivers a stylish brawl with a terrifying headmaster and a surprise mentor, and Gachiakuta (ep. 18) is our Episode of the Week thanks to a killer Scissors-vs-Electric throwdown, a jaw-drop gun reveal, and the eerie vital instruments sacrifice. We close with One Piece (Egghead): Vegapunk info bombs, Mother Flame teases, Gorosei menace, Sanji/Franky saves, and the “world is sinking” drumbeat getting louder. If you're here for sharp takes, dumb jokes, and real talk on what's worth your watchlist, this one's for you.Support the show

This week on The Normal Nerds Podcast, Maxwell and Davis dive headfirst into another Weekly Anime Recap — and it's stacked. The boys break down the latest episode of My Hero Academia Season 8, praising its perfect balance of emotion, action, and classic hero sacrifice energy. They debate whether Deku's plan is genius or insanity, geek out over Shigaraki's new look, and somehow end up connecting it all to the story of Jesus (don't worry, it makes sense… kind of). Then they jump into Spy x Family Season 3, laughing their way through Yor's sports dominance and unexpected volleyball destruction. And of course, they rave about how great the new anime Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider is — a wild, heartfelt surprise that might be one of the most fun new shows of the season. If you like chaotic anime debates, accidental theology, and totally normal nerd energy, this is your episode.

There is been one disappointment after another recently. Chatty Patty almost goes to a Kodansha House lottery event, Crunchyroll suddenly doesn't know how to make subtitles, and Wandance's animation is a disgrace. At least with the bitter there is a little bit of sweet in the form of some Fall 2025 anime that caught our attention. In a good way this time. 00:04:31 - It's hard to love Kodansha house as an Otaku00:22:03 - Wandance - anime fall 2025 00:29:30 - Crunchyroll, what the hell are you doing with these subtitles00:41:36 - Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle00:52:43 - May I Ask for One Final Thing? - anime fall 202500:54:56 - Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! - anime fall 202500:56:44 - Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider - anime fall 202500:58:54 - A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace - anime fall 2025
