Preventing dog bites…  We often think the risk of dog bites comes only from stray dogs. But here's a shocking statistic…77% of dog bites suffered by children come from their family dog or a friend's dog.   This is dauting to read. But it also gives us a strong epiphany. If a family dog bites a child or a friend, it's easy to blame the dog, to think it's somehow “defective”.   But here's the thing…  These are our dogs. “We” are the common denominator. We are somehow complicit in this tragic situation. We're training our dogs. We're teaching them how to view and navigate the world around them. And we're doing something wrong.   Justine Shuurmans is Founder of The Family Dog and creator of the groundbreaking Stop the 77 Video Campaign. She's been a dog trainer for 18 years.
