In this video, Devdutt Pattanaik shares powerful leadership lessons from Indian Mythology that every leader must know. Learn from ancient wisdom and enhance your leadership skills!Devdutt Pattanaik is an Indian author known for his writings on the relevance of mythology in modern times, especially in areas of management, governance, and leadership. He has authored over 50 books and 1000 columns, with bestsellers like My Gita, Jaya, and Business Sutra. Some of the highlights from the conversation are:✅The Problem of Ambition over ContentmentDevdutt criticizes modern society's obsession with ambition and relentless pursuit of more, especially in the business world, at the expense of cultivating contentment - leading to unhappiness. "The misconception is that the world of business prizes young, aggressive, ambitious STEM professionals over finding contentment."✅Using Mythology to Gain PerspectiveHe frequently cites Hindu and Buddhist mythology as offering an alternate, wiser viewpoint lacking in current discourse. He sees the stories and ideas in mythology as a way to recalibrate humanity's limited modern perspective on ambition versus contentment.✅The Concepts of Karma and DharmaDevdutt explains the Indian spiritual principles of karma (consequences of actions) and dharma (compassionately enabling others) as guides for how to live and lead a more balanced, content life. "Dharma is feeding others by first being content myself, which requires rationalizing my ambition."More about Devdutt Pattanaik:Website: https://www.devdutt.com/LinkedIN: https://www.linkedin.com/in/devduttmyth/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/devduttmyth/More about Rodrigo and Something Bigger:Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rodrigocanelasInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/rodrigocanelasTiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@rodrigo_canelasWeb: https://www.somethingbigger.com

He has written books on the relevance of sacred stories, symbols and rituals. His more popular books include Myth = Mithya: A Handbook of Hindu Mythology; Jaya: An Illustrated Retelling of the Mahabharata; and Sita: An Illustrated Retelling of the Ramayana and My Gita. SYNOPSIS:The recent political storm over MP Mahua Moitra's comments on Kali soon followed by another political controversy around The Week magazine publishing on its cover a 200 year old Kangra painting of shiva  & #Kali  brought the national attention on the many varied ways in which the goddess is imagined, understood and worshipped across the subcontinent. To some she is a loving mother, to some a ferocious warrior #goddess  . She is associated with cremation grounds and believed to symbolise death. And yet she also represents the creation of life and the universe. Some believe she is the manifestation of the ultimate reality, the “#brahman  ”.  Then there are those who see in her a rule-breaking feminist icon.Even the #ancientindia   texts don't seem to agree. At one end we are told that she emerged from Shiva to slay the demons and on the other she is herself “#adishakti ”, the supreme power.Literature tells us that she is timeless and formless. Yet the visual depictions of her form have evoked awe, horror and reverence among millions for centuries. While in many parts of India her worship still involves liquor or meat or blood, to vast swathes of Indians unaware of this, even the mention of such substances in association with the #devi  is nothing less than sacrilege.Today we have invited one of the most knowledgeable scholars of Indian #mythology  to help us unravel the perplexing iconography, legends and practices associated with the ever more intriguing goddess Kali! Bhakti Mathur grew up in Delhi, India, and with a graduate degree in economics and a postgraduate degree in finance from Delhi University pursued a career in banking for 22 years. In 2000, she and her husband moved to Hong Kong, which she now calls home and where both her children were born.  In 2010, unable to find a picture book on Holi, the Indian festival of colours, for her young sons, she decided to write one herself. This started the “Amma Tell Me” series, a collection of children's picture books about Hindu festivals and mythology with 13 published titles.  She received an MFA in creative writing from Hong Kong University in 2017, then had her two course manuscripts published by Penguin India as Amma Take Me to the Golden Temple and Amma Take Me to Tirupati. These began the “Amma Take Me” series, exploring different faiths through their important places of worship. The series has four published titles. Bhakti has conducted story-telling sessions and reading and writing workshops at schools and literary festivals in Hong Kong, Singapore and India. She freelances as a journalist and writes features on culture, health and fitness for the South China Morning Post. Bhakti also loves hiking and running – she ran the New York Marathon in 2017 – and is currently studying yoga through the Iyengar Yoga in Depth programme. An avid reader, when not writing or chasing after her young boys, Bhakti is happiest curled up with a book in one hand and a hot cup of chai in the other. www.bhaktimathur.comInstagram @ammatellmeFacebook/AmmatellmeSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/back2basicsmode?fan_landing=true)
