NOTE: THIS EPISODE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE MITCH RAPP NOVEL SERIES. New York Times bestselling author Don Bentley spent over a decade flying Apache helicopters for the US Army, including facing down Al Qaeda terrorists in Afghanistan. For his service, he can count among his accolades the Bronze Star and the Air Medal with V Device. He's worked in the private sector for military contractors, spent time as a foreign intelligence and counterintelligence agent for the FBI, and served as a SWAT officer. But despite his dangerous career up until now, he's facing down perhaps his most harrowing challenge...pleasing extremely rabid literary fans. Having previously written novels set in the late Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series, as well as his own series of thrillers starring his own character Matt Drake, Don has been named the newest successor to Vince Flynn's incredibly popular Mitch Rapp series of novels, taking over for his friend and departing author Kyle Mills. On today's episode, Don talks about his experience on the war front, and gives his thoughts on America's exit from Afghanistan and the recent tragedy in Israel. But the mood will certainly lighten as he talks about his career as a writer, navigating the pitfalls of continuity management as a legacy series author, and hilarious interactions with his colleagues. On today's 148th episode of The Thriller Zone, we're thrilled to welcome New York Times bestselling author Kyle Mills.Kyle is the superb author who took over the Vince Flynn legacy series of the Mitch Rapp stories. And today he speaks about his latest thriller CODE RED, and how he plans to hand off the series to another iconic author, Don Bentley. If you're a fan of military-themed thrillers, then you no doubt are supremely aware of Kyle's masterful handling of Mitch Rapp. This is taken from Kyle's website, as he shares some "Behind The Scenes" of the iconic series."Code Red was an interesting novel to conceptualize. Because I was considering making it my last entry in the series, I found myself looking back at where I'd been—from finishing the arc Vince started in The Last Man, to Mitch going toe-to-toe with an opponent who was nearly his equal, to the desperate race to stop a Russian invasion of Europe. Over my time guiding the series, the character has evolved from a man still enraged and frustrated by the death of his wife to someone who's found the stability of a new family and maybe even a little peace. In the meantime, America has endured a decade of violent geopolitical changes from both inside and outside its borders. The direct threat from Islamicists has given way to growing political dysfunction, an increasingly belligerent China, and advancing technology that seems to be careening out of control. What's Mitch Rapp's role in this new reality? In the end, I decided it wasn't my place to find out. I wanted to leave Mitch's new custodian a solid platform to launch from without locking him into any particular course. This gave me the opportunity to end with a stand-alone adventure that puts Mitch back in Arab territory but with a few modern twists. The goal was to tip my hat to Vince's earlier books by creating an operation that involves a lot of fireworks and returns Mitch to his roots.Which brings my era to a close. It's hard not to feel a little sadness, but I'm excited to move forward with my Fade series. While I'll miss writing about Mitch and the gang, I'm really looking forward to going back to reading about them." -Kyle MillsTo learn more about Kyle and follow him on his new journey, go to: KyleMills.comAs always, THANK YOU for following and subscribing to TheThrillerZone.com Are you an author in search of a professional website? For this episode of The All-Around Adventure Podcast, I'm joined by #1 New York Times Bestselling Author, Kyle Mills. Kyle is the current author of the Mitch Rapp book series. And Mitch Rapp just so happens to be one of my most beloved fictional characters! The series was started by Vince Flynn back in the late 90s. Though sadly, Vince Flynn passed away in 2013 after writing 13 books in the series. Not long after, Kyle took up the mantle and continued writing more novels centered around the iconic character. And as of the release of this episode, Kyle's eighth book in the series, Oath of Loyalty, has been released! Though Kyle's own story goes well beyond just writing thrillers. While growing up, his father worked for the FBI, and he moved to different places in the US and the UK as a bureau kid. Along the way, he also took up rock climbing, which was an interest that led him to his current home in Wyoming. Now as a writer, he and his wife have become part-time expatriates living in both the US and Spain. In this episode, Kyle tells us about the places that he's lived along the way. We also discuss his journey as an author and what it's been like to continue writing a book series that has a very loyal fan base. As well as where he thinks he'll take the series moving forward! Mitch Rapp is back, which means so is Kyle Mills. The Crew welcomed our friend and regular guest back on the show to discuss OATH OF LOYALTY, his 8th outstanding entry in the Vince Flynn-created series. As usual, Mill's wit and wisdom made for a fantastic hour. “In the world of black-ops thrillers, Mitch Rapp remains the gold standard. Mills has embraced the high-concept-thriller style and continues to exceed expectations.” - Booklist With President Anthony Cook convinced that Mitch Rapp poses a mortal threat to him, CIA Director Irene Kennedy is forced to construct a truce between the two men. He's given a deal to avoid a charge of treason, but it means walking away from the Corps and the life he loved. As he faces his loss, Matty gets a cryptic message from his adoptive father, J. B.: “Trouble's come knocking. . . . Might need your help.” He points his truck home to rural Montana, only to discover that J. B. is dead and the explanation for his death is far from satisfying. Determined to dig up the truth, Redd uncovers a dark global conspiracy with his hometown at the center and no team at his back—except one he might find among past friends, old enemies, and new allies, if he can figure out who to trust.
