Hello, dear listeners! Ah, BBC America. Kind of like the BBC, but also not. A production company respected the world over for its quality radio plays, news reporting, documentaries, and television broadcasts. What's that you say? In 2014 they released a 4-part miniseries based on the wartime experiences of Ian Fleming? Oh, how delightful! What could possibly go wrong?!? That's what hosts Mathieu and Edgar finnd out on this week's show. Seeing as they are unequivocal experts on all things Fleming, they sniff out some of the less than accurate plot machinations, as well as sniff out some of the production's more stinky aspects. There is much ground to cover, what with four 45-50 minute long episodes, but that doesn't mean they rush to the finish line without analyzing the essential talking points. Is Dominic Cooper playing the role of Fleming too seriously? What was that other television show Lara Pulver is famous for appearing nude in and no other particular reason? Edgar admits to actually doing occasional research when the subject matter stimulates him, like Annabelle Wallis. How important is it that the show drops little hints of the creation Fleming would later give birth to? When is it useful to claim you're a super major fan of Mein Kampf? Is it really that bad to be into BDSM? What happens when two secret agents on the run opt to take refuge inside a female elephant's privates? What does Ian Fleming think of social media? Yes, it's another week of endlessly fascinating, engaging, and… juicy chatter at The James Bond Complex. * *This week's episode of The James Bond Complex is X rated. Have your martinis at the ready.

Trigger warnings for the expression "Negro bar" as we hear our latest episode on the life of James Bond creator Ian Fleming. Richard and Jonathan look at three biopics of Ian Fleming that are so far from historical truth they're basically live-action fan-fiction. Dominic Cooper and Eva Green-alike Lara Pulver star in the Sky One 2014 mini-series "Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond" while 1990's "Spymaker: The Secret Life of Ian Fleming" features Kristin Scott Thomas and Sean Connery's son Jason Connery as Ian Fleming. It is the heightened strangeness of 1989's "Golden Eye" which captivates, seeing Charles Dance's Ian Fleming face off against a Nazi played by... Holy shit! It's Christoph Waltz! He was there from the beginning. Before James Bond was even written. Jonathan tries to convey the unsettling singing of Julian Fellowes' portrayal of Noel Coward and also informs us of Ian Fleming's appearance in "Agatha Christie's Miss Marple: A Caribbean Mystery". Richard is disappointed by the dearth of loud aerodynamic ninjas in "Golden Eye" but seems optimistic about the prospect of a spin-off podcast on Eva Green's filmography called "For Eva Alone".

"I am one of a hundred" [ILLU]  Well, we managed to do it. And it only took us nine years, an 18-month hiatus, one lost episode and thousands of fans.   That's right, it's our 100th episode.   We asked you what you wanted to hear for the centenary of the first podcast for Sherlock Holmes devotees, and time and again, we heard from you, telling us to do a retrospective - a look back at our favorite moments from what we've accomplished. We also asked you what your favorite moments are and what you wanted to know from us. Well, we managed to deliver on both.   Our 100th episode gave us a chance to reflect on exactly what turning 100 means, and to dive back into our murky and fuzzy origins. We try to answer some of your queries and we celebrate those who joined us previously before launching into our top memories of the show, as represented in audio clips. Our Gas-Lamp features two readings, including a new one created just for this episode. Finally, we wrap up with a couple of important announcements that you won't want to miss.   We thank Mary Miller for her ongoing and generous support of our program on . In Sherlock she was the dominatrix that brought a nation to its knees. A far cry from the Adler of canon, but with the same essence of adventure and mischief. Lara Pulver's Irene turned heads and caused controversy, and we feel that's just what Adler of the canon would have wanted. Lara Pulver chats with Curly, Lyndsay, Maria, and Jenn about her turn as The Woman. We geek out about McQueen and  sexual identity, and reveal the secret to beating Benedict Cumberbatch at word games. Lyndsay & Curly do a brief introduction which has Star Trek casting spoilers for Benedict, so if you want to avoid that, skip to 10 minutes in. "To Sherlock Holmes, she is always the woman" [SCAN]    To Burt and Scott she will always be the guest. While you may have heard her mentioned by the name of Irene Adler, she is actually and she is our interview subject for this very special episode of I Hear of Sherlock Everywhere.    originally aired on BBC One in January and now we're poised for it to air on PBS's Masterpiece Mystery in the United States. One of the most intriguing characters of this new series is none other than the adventuress Irene Adler, the antagonist in the first episode "A Scandal in Belgravia."   So in this episode, titled "The Woman," we're joined by the woman who played the woman in "A Scandal in Belgravia," Lara Pulver. An actress, singer and dancer, Lara has the enviable distinction of playing Irene Adler as perceived in the 21st century. She joined us from Chichester after a theatre performance and chatted with us on her experience with Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman on the set of the BBC "Sherlock," and what it was like to inhabit the character of the only woman who beat Sherlock Holmes.   We close the show with an appropriately titled and themed Editor's Gas-Lamp from the Vol. 41, No. 1 issue of the Baker Street Journal.
