Mike and Kenny review the Summer action blockbuster F1: The Movie starring Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Damson Idris, and Kerry Condon and directed by Joseph Kosinski. Pitt stars as race car driver Sonny Hayes, who is invited to join an F1 team despite a 30 year absence from the F1 circuit following a traumatic crash. The team's owner, Ruben Cervantes (Bardem) drove with Hayes when he was a rookie and is desperate for his team to show success or else he will lose it. Part of Hayes's impact on the team needs to be mentoring the team's rookie sensation but yet to be successful driver, Joshua Pearce (Idris.) Produced by Jerry Bruckeimer and Apple Studios, F1 The Movie included scenes shot during F1 on location at several Grand Prixs, the British, Italian, Las Vegas, Japan and Abu Dhabi.   Faith Spotted: The place and necessity of Community: I Corinthians 12, the Body of Christ consists of many parts, all of which are vital and dependent on one another. Such dependency requires trust and faith in each other. As Christ had total faith in God, discisples of Jesus must also have faith in the God's redemptive power and in the new life promised in Christ. This is reflected in F1 in all the members of the team, from the owner, drivers, and all crew members. Without everyone working together the team fails. Living in Community requires Humility. As Paul teaches in Philippians 2 all persons of faith are called to imitate the humility of Christ. As Jesus did not use his position as God to gain attention, power, and to be served, but rather to serve God and others, discipleship of Christ calls for persons to be humble and use talents and other blessings of God in the service of God and others. Hayes, Pearce, and others in the film are challenged to reign in their ego's and desires for personal fame and glory in order for the team to win and all to be successful. Over coming Adversity, Failure and Fear: Faith in God's love, grace, and the promise of new life, allows us the freedom to struggle against adversity and the fear of failure. The teaching and life example of Jesus calls us to live out of faith rather than in the midst fear because God cherishes all people for who they are, God's children, not for what they accomplish. Calling, Purpose, and Passion:  Sonny Hayes was born to race. It doesn't matter if he was racing in the glamorous world of the F1 circuit or isolated Baja races. In contrast Joshua Pearce saw racing as a means to an end, glory, wealth, popularity. Pursuing his purpose and passion rather than the perks of success enabled Hayes to find joy in all circumstances. Children of God are called to discover their purpose and use the gifts and blessings that God offers that drive that purpose.

In 2022, director Joseph Kosinski wowed us with amazing sights from inside fighter jets in “Top Gun: Maverick.” In 2025, he's dropping our jaws to the floor with awesome sights from inside F1 race cars in the summer blockbuster “F1” starring Brad Pitt. PItt plays veteran driver Sonny Hayes who is asked by his friend, who owns a team, to help them win and maybe mentor their young driver too. Hayes soon finds that today's racing is fraught with betrayal, nasty media, corrupt F1 officials and that's before he gets in the missile with tires going 200+ mph. Is it worth finding out how it all goes down at the theater? Check out this episode to find out. “F1” also stars Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Damson Idris, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, Sarah Niles, Will Merrick and Callie Cooke.Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

One of the biggest films of the summer - Joseph Kosinski's F1 - has now arrived on the biggest screen near you! This is the latest collaboration between Kosinski and Jerry Bruckheimer, who last produced Top Gun: Maverick together. This has been one of my most anticipated movies for YEARS now, because Top Gun: Maverick is easily my favorite movie of the decade so far, making it therefore the best new release I've covered. I've also been a casual fan of Kosinski's previous work, the strongest film of his being Only the Brave prior to Maverick. But, the idea of him doing a race car movie with another one of the biggest stars on the planet - now Academy Award winner Brad Pitt - was so exciting. Is F1 (The Movie) the best movie of summer 2025 so far? Let's talk about it!F1 The Movie:Directed by: Joseph KosinskiStory by: Joseph Kosinski, Ehren KrugerScreenplay by: Ehren KrugerProduced by: Jerry Bruckheimer, Dede Gardner, Lewis Hamilton, Jeremy Kleiner, Joseph Kosinski, Chad Oman, Brad PittExecutive Producers: Toby Hefferman, Daniel Lupi, Penni ThowOriginal score by: Hans ZimmerCinematography by: Claudio MirandaEdited by: Stephen MirrioneCasting by: Lucy Bevan, Emily BrockmannProduction Design by: Ben Munro, Mark TildesleyCostume Design by: Julian DayCast: Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Kim Bodnia, Tobias Menzies, Shea Whigham, Sarah NilesSynopsis: Racing legend Sonny Hayes is coaxed out of retirement to lead a struggling Formula 1 team—and mentor a young hotshot driver—while chasing one more chance at glory.

Civil War is currently the No. 1 movie in the country. And: Manhunt is a seven-episode limited series on Apple TV+. It is based on the book Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer by James L. How much do we really know about the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln? That's a question Tobias Menzies hopes to answer in Apple TV+'s ‘Manhunt' (March 15). “The thing that really struck me was the newness of the nation, that it wasn't really all knitted together properly, it was still so raw.” Menzies plays Edwin Stanton, the U.S. Secretary of War under Lincoln, as he leads the manhunt for John Wilkes Booth. As a Brit, Menzies says “it's not without its trepidation to take on these important figures in your country's history,” but that he hopes “to bring enough insight, and maybe some of that is about being an outsider.” The show, which leans “toward the conspiracy political, crime thriller sort of genre,” is also surprisingly timely. “The political and physical reality of the United States is a sort of a given now. It was interesting putting ourselves back into a world where that's not a given ... and the danger is that the tide will significantly turn in a different direction if [Stanton] isn't able to resist the forces that have committed that deed.” Visit Newsweek.com to learn more about the podcasts we offer and to catch up on the latest news. A Way Out Of Cocaine & Drug Addiction! School of Rock Bottom 12: Sebastian Wocker

[TW//Drug Misuse, Suicidal Thoughts] Today I welcome singer, songwriter and author of the Amazon bestseller The Joy of Addiction, Sebastian Wocker. Aged 17, Wocker landed the principal part of Woof in the 1983 European tour of the musical Hair where, suffering teenage angst, low self-worth and low self-esteem, he went into a deep depression and had to throw in the towel after two months. He returned to his safe haven of drugs and alcohol in London, where he auditioned for and got into LAMDA (London Academy of Dramatic Arts), only to drop out after two days because he 'couldn't stand all those happy clappy prima donnas'. The real reason? He was an addict, hopelessly hooked on drugs and alcohol and didn't want to be found out. Sebastian takes us on a compelling journey down the abyss of alcohol, cocaine, speed, cannabis, hallucinogen and prescribed drug addiction, leading him to various rock bottoms and 'dark nights of the soul'. Then, aged 21, a moment of inspiration: a seed planted by his long suffering mother finally got him into the 12-step programme, offering him the life-changing gift of recovery. For anyone struggling with addiction, he shares how he got himself out and continues to live life, a day at a time — a free man. Having found recovery in 1987, Sebastian formed indie-rock band Yeah in 1990, playing the London, Hamburg and Berlin club circuits. After a five-page interview with Die Zeit Magazine in 1992, Yeah appeared on various radio and TV shows and in 1993 was awarded The John Lennon Talent Award in Hamburg. In 1998 he wrote and produced World Cup Crescendo for TV impressionist Alistair McGowan. In 2002 he signed as a songwriter for Global Chrysalis Publishing, writing numerous songs for Cherry Red Records and Universal Records and released his solo album: Don Sebastiano, The Spaghetti Tree. In 2007 Wocker recorded the soundtrack of German movie Pornorama with Mousse T and, in 2010, was the singing voice for Tobias Menzies in the award winning independent motion picture Forget Me Not. Sebastian has written as a journalist for The Independent, Mr Partner Magazine (Japan), Camden New Journal and Ham and High Express. He is currently journalist and editor of the Hampstead Village Voice and has interviewed various household names including Emma Thompson, Russell Brand, George Graham, Giles Coren and Martin Bell. Wocker is currently recording an audiobook for his best selling book The Joy of Addiction, out on Audible from February 2024 and is writing the sequel: The Joy of Relapse. He is currently the lead singer/song writer of indie band Ridiculous with Jon Moss, Erran Baron-Cohen and Peter Noone. Ridiculous has just recorded their debut single Everybody Loves That Girl at Abbey Road Studios. Greetings Obsassenachs! This episode is a recording of our Facebook Live event on February 17th when Rebecca and I discussed all things Frank Randall. So, sit back and enjoy as we talk about Frank as a father and husband, the complexities of his and Claire's marriage both before and after her journey through the stones, and how the screen-adapted version portrayed by Tobias Menzies shapes up compared to Diana Gabaldon's OG Frank Randall from the books.
