One of these things truly is not like the other, as for the first season in ages the White Sox are fielding a competitive slate of affiliates, including two first-place and playoff-bound clubs. The exception, as you might have figured, is the Charlotte Knights, struggling to fill out a pitching rotation and to get some wins under them. Our guy in Charlotte, Jonathan Lee, is here with us to talk about some key Knights figures ... look a bit into the future: The team is about what was expected, arguably (based on past seasons, at least) better than hoped Bryan Ramos skipped Charlotte on his way up to the majors, and now is rehabbing/reloading with the Knights. Jonathan and Brett chat on what Bryan brings to the table beyond his enormous talent Colson Montgomery is continuing to struggle between jaw-dropping flashes. He's young, and struggle is to be expected — but Jonathan has caught something in Montgomery's self-awareness that could prove valuable as he moves toward the majors Sean Burke's lower-level rehab was completed and he's flashed some “old Burke” since arriving in Charlotte Literally as the pair were discussing Birmingham's rotation and what Drew Thorpe has to prove in Double-A, first word was breaking that Thorpe would be promoted to the White Sox for a Tuesday start Philosophical discussion on the nature of Triple-A and how often Double-A Barons might outright skip Charlotte, as we're seeing with Ramos, Duke Ellis, and Thorpe The value of a core of guys playing together at each step up toward the majors Estimated dates for when we might start to see the rich Birmingham talent move east to Charlotte, possibly to create a very different Knights roster in the second half! In episode 234 of The Just Checking In Podcast we checked in with Jonathan Lee. Jon is currently a Creative Director at an advertising agency and the Founder of mental health initiative The Life Jacket (TLJ). After Jon's friend Alex took his own life in 2023, he wanted to create a new suicide prevention tool that would have intervened in the period building up to Alex's death. Jon tragically discovered Alex had been researching suicide methods online for a year prior to when he did it. Jon then created an initiative in partnership with R;pple Suicide Prevention and The Life Jacket was born. The Life Jacket aims to give people the skills, knowledge and confidence to take action and turn someone else's life around. In the UK alone, there are over 1.2 million internet searches every month on how one can take their own life. TLJ work with organisations, alliances, universities and schools to reduce the number of lives lost to suicide through collective, preventative action. To launch the platform, 17 life jackets were placed in locations around the UK, with each jacket dedicated to someone who has tragically lost their life to suicide. In this episode, we discuss the journey of The Life Jacket, what Jon wants to achieve with it, the bubble which exists in some mental health spaces and how Jon wants to break out of that. We also discuss his plans for the future including workshops and international Life Jacket chapters across the world. For Jon's mental health, we discuss the impact that Alex's suicide had on him and his mental health, why he wanted to take that grief and turn it into TLJ and how we can positively intervene and spot the signs of a man or anyone when they are suicidal. Are you ready to challenge your understanding of a hotly debated topic? Join me, your host, Lance McKenzie, and my  guest, Jonathan Lee, as we dissect the contentious issue of slavery in the Bible and its stark contrast with slavery in the American colonies. We debunk common misconceptions and discuss the topic in depth. Together, we voyage through the different forms of slavery prevalent in biblical times, highlighting their significance and the importance of grasping the original context. Our conversation on Paul's teachings about slave treatment and his revolutionary message within the Roman Empire paints a vibrant picture of the New Testament's portrayal of slavery. As we break down the treatment of Hebrew and foreign slaves in the Bible, we challenge the widespread belief that non-Hebrew slaves suffered harsher treatment, providing evidence from scripture and historical research. Our exploration doesn't end with human attitudes towards slavery. We dive into God's view on slavery, considering how it relates to the gospel, and offering a new perspective for both skeptics and believers. We end our enlightening conversation on a note of hope, discussing the ultimate freedom found in the gospel and the importance of holding steadfast in our faith. Join us in this engaging discussion that promises to challenge your perceptions and expand your understanding.

He's that 1st-generation Asian fella down the hall you've never taken the time to ask:"Hey man, what's your story?"Well, I got that opportunity when "J," as I call him, came down from Dallas a few weeks ago.We actually recorded in a professional studio, so it may sound a little better than previous episodes. Here's that story. There was a sex offender I'd gotten to know over the past several months (and liked). In fact, I liked "Jerome" (not his real name) so much that I offered to be the sales rep for his mobile car washing business.I was going to dust off the 'ole blue suit and visit high-rises where I had connections in Houston. I'd see if we could setup on the first floor of the garage. He'd be stationary at 70 years old, and it'd be much more lucrative for him.Jerome was smart, a great storyteller, and reminded me of Morgan Freeman. Not to mention the crime he committed occurred before I was born.So I wanted to help Jerome. Plus, I thought he'd be a great guest on the podcast. Such a great guest, in fact, that I rented a professional studio on the day & time we had agreed to meet.Well, Jerome "went dark" on me a few days before we were scheduled to record. I actually still haven't heard from him. And I didn't want to leave the studio's owner hanging, so I asked J if he'd want to tell his story on my podcast. He said, "Absolutely!"Although he was in town visiting friends—I challenged him to a game of pickleball at Lifetime Fitness—loser buys the winner their book of choice (we're both avid readers). After J got smoked, getting A Monk's Guide to Happiness by Gelong Thubten in the mail was like Christmas morning. You see I didn't tell him what book I wanted—I just sent him a screenshot of the Notes app from my iPhone. I've kept a running tab for years of books I plan to get to someday. So I didn't know what would show up in the mail. But this book is a gamer. Highly recommend! Thanks, J!Jonathan's not your average Asian dude down the hall. His upbringing took him all over the world, spending the first half of his life in three countries. He was born in Busan, South Korea. His dad, who worked for LG, was transferred to Jakarta, Indonesia, then Monterrey, Mexico, before they finally arrived in the States (El Paso, TX). Jonathan earned his Doctorate of Pharmacy in 2018 from the University of Houston, then completed a 2-year post-graduate residency for the US government.Today, J works for the government as a pharmacy manager, and holds down another full-time job as a Realtor at Rendon Realty, LLC(I've been there—it's no joke).J says his passion for reading & financial independence will continue to provide all the fuel he needs to accomplish his goals. He's up at 4am every morning so he can get to the gym. What's his primary goal? To become a multi-millionaire and retire by age 40 (he's 29 now). He'll do it.Jonathan's a strong advocate of self-development and passionate about helping other men awaken their true potential.Hope you enjoy listening as much as we did recording!

In this episode of the podcast, we dissect the vanadium market. Vanadium has been primarily used in the steel market to dramatically strengthen the material but the real growth in the market is expected to come from the Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) – a battery that has many advantages over its lithium-ion cousin. My guest today is Mr. Johnathan Lee. Johnathan is a director at Largo Physical Vanadium (LPV), a seasoned market analyst, and a good friend. LPV is a vanadium holding company that has the mandate to purchase and hold physical vanadium and has relationships with Largo Resources and others. Largo is a tier-one vertically integrated operator of the Maracas Menchen vanadium mine in Brazil. By the end of this podcast you will: 1. Have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the vanadium market 2. Have a solid understanding of the VRFB including its pros and cons relative to other battery chemistries 3. Hear Jonathan's thoughts on the state of the Battery Metals markets As a brief aside, there are two data points used in the podcast which we wanted to clarify. Regarding the McKinsey report referenced in the discussion, the report is calling for 7.5 TWh of cumulative storage capacity. Second, regarding the amount of vanadium pentoxide used in a VRFB, the ratio is 20 lbs per KWh. Please enjoy this wide-ranging discussion on the vanadium market with my friend Jonathan Lee.

This week, lace up your boots and be sure to stretch, because we have an exciting new Future of Tech to share with you! Avishai had a chance to sit down with Jonathan Lee, the Senior Director of Sports Performance Technology for Intel. If you never connected Intel and sports technology before, you certainly will after this conversation.  In this lively conversation, Jonathan dives deep into how Intel's AI is benefiting all facets of sports, from player performance to fan experience, and even advanced athlete scouting in underserved areas. Throughout the episode, he shares countless ways in which Intel's technology is affecting the world of athletics for elite professionals and weekend warriors alike, highlighting the myriad ways these innovations will impact sports on every level.  Enjoy the episode! Main Takeaways: Creating Scalable Athletic Solutions: Jonathan shares how AI solutions can scale to serve multiple types of athletes, from elite professionals to casual players, as well as benefiting the health and wellness space. AI and How It Will Redefine Athlete Scouting: Intel's AI Scout is changing the way player performance is evaluated, using 3D analysis to objectively gauge an athlete's potential against a growing field of competitors. Bringing Athletic Opportunities to Underserved Areas: Jonathan shares an inspiring story of how AI Scout made it possible for two unknown prospects from a remote village to be discovered and considered for an organized football program. Key Quotes: (Clean up 5 and leave in timecode) (16:29)“For sports, there are many applications that involve, how do we get athletes to perform better. Or how do we enhance a broadcast so that a fan feels more engaged with the action?  And we're at an exciting place right now in technology where we have things that really bridged the gap between the athlete and the fan.” (18:19)“A lot of the things that we work on are meant to democratize and allow technology to be not just by the very elite athletes, but all the athletes on the team, and not just all the athletes on a pro or elite team, but actually down through your weekend warrior, your consumer, even in the health space as well.” (22:37): “We use computer vision to extract 25 or more key points from the body, and then whether you use one camera or multiple cameras, we can create a 3D model of the athlete. And then from there, we can calculate biomechanics, kinematics, and provide that to a developer, or in some cases, we've built our own applications on top of that. Again, this is without the use of any sensors or suits. It's just AI. (34:28): “Last year as a team, Purdue [baseball team] stole 48 bases. That put them at 130 first out of all the teams in the country. This year they stole 116, which ranked them number 10, right? And they had a great season. We're really at the cusp here on how to use tech to actually improve performance, right? And it's being demonstrated.”  (54:35): “Being able to, to provide that information in, in real-time or near real-time would be something that would, that, that, um, would make the gym experience a bit more compelling as well as safe.”

Warning: Some strong language and reference to suicide We often think of ‘progress' as an enemy of ‘prejudice', but when it comes to prejudice towards Gypsy, Roma and Travellers, the opposite is true. YouGov polling shows a decline in British society's attitudes towards their nomadic members, as the UN flags a rise in hate speech and violence towards the ethnic minority across Europe. Why is this happening? Is it down to changes in reality, or simply changes in perception? We speak to activists and actors about the role of politics and pop culture in creating an increasingly hostile environment, and unveil the masked mental health crisis that is endemic among Traveller youths. Mikey Walsh - author (and protagonist) of ‘Gypsy Boy' - joins us to talk about the news media's complicity in creating a society clouded more in fiction than fact. We look at headlines on ‘Traveller crime' and opinion pieces in mainstream papers pleading to phase out the ethnic minority. The episode is accompanied by traditional Romani music performed and produced by Bill Lloyd.
