The San Jose Sharks might have just traded for their goaltender of the future! Sheng and Keegan share their initial reactions to acquiring Yaroslav Askarov from the Nashville Predators. In a six-piece deal, the San Jose Sharks are getting Askarov, a 2025 third-round pick (via the Colorado Avalanche), and prospect Nolan Burke for prospects David Edstrom and Magnus Chrona, and a 2025 first-round pick (via the Vegas Golden Knights, top-10 protected). Both Keegan and Sheng love this trade for the Sharks and GM Mike Grier on many levels. Why? Regardless, what are the concerns about Askarov? There are real questions. Also, is Askarov the best goaltending prospect in San Jose Sharks history? What about incumbent goalies Mackenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek? How would we grade Grier's work as Sharks GM over the last two years? We talk about that and more!

Joe Will joins the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast! The San Jose Barracuda GM talks about the Barracuda goaltending situation, John McCarthy as a developer of talent, and San Jose's AHL player turnover rate. But before we get to Joe Will (53:15), we talk about this week in San Jose Sharks news! Igor Chernyshov signs with the San Jose Sharks! He's also playing for the Saginaw Spirit. Why not the AHL for Chernyshov? Will Russian native Chernyshov feel isolated in Saginaw? Sheng reached out to Chernyshov's agent Dan Milstein about that. (2:28) The San Jose Sharks impressed at World Junior Summer Showcase! Keegan talked about what he saw from prospects who impressed like Brandon Svoboda and Leo Sahlin Wallenius and Sam Dickinson, Quentin Musty being just okay, and Carson Wetsch and Axel Landen. (8:50) Keegan discussed three Draft trends that he's observed in the Mike Grier era. (19:31) Sheng talked about what ex-San Jose Sharks GM Doug Wilson said about letting Joe Pavelski walk as a free agent in 2019. (26:29) How has the Erik Karlsson trade to the Pittsburgh Penguins looked for the Sharks, one year later? (36:58)  Last call for subscriber Andy Drexler, last chance to win your Sharks legend autograph! You have until the end of this week to reach out to Sheng via e-mail. (50:08) And now, Joe Will! (53:15) Will talks about the Barracuda's big free agent signings this summer, Andrew Poturalski, Lucas Carlsson, and Jimmy Schuldt, and where they will slot in with the Cuda. (55:00) Could the Barracuda add one more high-end veteran before camp? Will says yes, and reveals the positional fit. How about the goaltending? Fans have been expecting a more veteran goalie to be added to the Barracuda…Will says that the San Jose Sharks organization, if anything, is looking for an older, more experienced prospect for that role. (57:17) Could the San Jose Sharks find their No. 3 goalie in waivers?  Will discusses stories that have circulated that some of the recent Cuda veterans and their wives haven't been happy in San Jose. In his view, has player treatment been a problem in San Jose in recent years? (1:02:20) Will suggests another reason why veterans might be unhappy. How has treatment of players changed from Worcester to San Jose? Does Will have to make better contract offers with a Bay Area-based team? Will defends head coach John McCarthy's track record as a developer of talent. (1:08:43) How did Barracuda prospects progress throughout last season, what were they asked to focus on this off-season? Going by position. (1:12:16) Magnus Chrona (1:12:52) Georgi Romanov Will explains rolling with Eetu Makiniemi last year, his profile looks like what the San Jose Sharks are looking for right now, absent Makiniemi's injuries. (1:42:00) Does Will expect this Barracuda team to make the playoffs? Or do they need more? (1:47:42) Will was also San Jose Sharks interim GM throughout most of the 2021-22 season: Keegan asks him about re-signed Tomas Hertl to an eight-year extension. (1:50:40)

Plenty of news came out of practice Monday for the Dallas Stars and the most intriguing storyline is Chris Tanev. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey goes over Tanev and the immigration process that may keep him out of tonight's game against the San Jose Sharks. If Tanev does join the team and is inserted into the lineup, where does he fit. The Stars and Head Coach Pete DeBoer can experiment some, but they have less than 20 games to figure out what works best. Joey would like to see Tanev paired with Heiskanen to put Miro on his strong side, plus spread the wealth with Thomas Harley to another partner. The key however, is to break up Jani Hakanpaa and Esa Lindell who have the worst expected goals against rate of all pairings. We also touch on the news of Tyler Seguin skating once again and the possibility is Evgenni Dadanov being out for the season. Then we preview tonight's game against the Sharks. The beginning of a three game west coast trip begins against the Sharks that took Dallas the distance a few days ago. Joey's key to the game is Mason Marchment and Matt Duchene finding a way to be productive without Tyler Seguin. DeBoer has struggled to found someone to fill that role and he expects those two to drive the line back to success. Marchment is without a point in his last five. Finally the last segment we play shooting star! Today's pick is the young rookie Logan Stankoven, Joey has not picked Stanky yet, so he goes bold and predicts a Hat Trick at the tank! The Sharks would play the Central devision leading Stars and play a relatively even tilt. The shot counter would show otherwise, the equalizing factor being Magnus Chrona making 36 saves good for a .947% Save PCT. Eklund would score his tenth goal of the season while Zadina would score his ninth of the year giving the Sharks just enough scoring support to get to OT. Unfortunately the Sharks were unable to capitalize on a golden 4-3 power play in OT, allowing the game to go to the shootout, with Jamie Benn winning it for Dallas. The San Jose Sharks have one of their more lopsided affairs as they lose 7-2 to Timo Meier and the New Jersey Devils. Mackenzie Blackwood leaves the game with a lower-body injury in the first period, and the Sharks fall apart in the third, giving up four goals. Discuss how the Sharks played well in the first period behind Blackwood's stellar work on the penalty kill. Plus, William Eklund and Filip Zadina showed flashes of chemistry in their first game together. Then, look ahead to Kaapo Kahkonen's workload without Blackwood and if the Magnus Chrona might see a game. Finally, get caught up on the latest trade rumors, including why Mario Ferraro probably won't get traded. (1:26:45)Now onto Team Sweden and Jonathan Lekkerimäki's MVP. Sheng has some questions about how he won it over a few of the other candidates. (1:29:45)Chris remarks on the less than impressive performance of Filip Bystedt. (1:36:30)Moving onto Team Canada, Chris answers the question of Jake Furlong's pro potential after he surprised many and made Team Canada. (1:39:17) Finally, Team Finland's only Sharks representative, Kasper Halttunen. What needs to improve to transform Halttunen from a junior shooter to an NHL regular? Nico Hoerner hit the majors’ first homer of 2022 and Kyle Hendricks pitched neatly into the sixth, leading Chicago to the victory on a chilly, overcast afternoon at Wrigley Field. Japanese outfielder Seiya Suzuki reached three times and scored in his first big league game. On a day stuffed full of firsts and debuts, Milwaukee ace Corbin Burnes and catcher Omar Narváez became the first battery to use baseball’s new electronic pitch-calling system in a regular-season game. Mills has a low back strain, and Miley is dealing with left elbow inflammation. Simmons is working through right shoulder inflammation. Each IL stint was made retroactive to Monday. Mills’ IL stint helped pave the way for right-hander Michael Rucker to make the opening-day roster for the first time. Rucker, who turns 28 on April 27, had no record and a 6.99 ERA in 20 appearances for Chicago last summer in his first big league action. MLB – White Sox 3B Moncada to miss 3 weeks with strained oblique The Chicago White Sox expect third baseman Yoán Moncada to miss the first three weeks of the season because of a strained right oblique. The team placed Moncada on the 10-day injured list on Thursday as part of a flurry of moves to get the roster down to 28 players. General manager Rick Hahn told reporters in Detroit, where the White Sox open against the Tigers on Friday, that Moncada will likely miss about three weeks. Brett Stapley and Cameron Wright also scored for Denver. But both times Michigan tied it — on goals from Jimmy Lambert and Thomas Bordeleau. NCAAWBKB – NCAA Women’s Tournament TV rights could have different look The NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament reported strong viewership numbers this week.
