Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. This week on All of Life for God, Alex Diprima, author of “Spurgeon and the Poor,” unpacks how the Prince of Preachers' dedication to the gospel informed his Christ-like generosity. Hallmarks of an Antioch Church - Episode 4 - Mercy Ministries (21st April 2024 DM)
Mercy Ministries offered Sarah and Britt y health treatment in a faith based program. After arriving, they found it was very different, and that rather than treat their mental health concerns, the enclosed and punitive program made life so much worse. Sharing details of the daily lives, ways out and impacts of MM, these two women bring truth into the sun, but not before many years have brought them to this safer place and we are grateful for their voices. So come chat! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Britt (the Prosperity Lounge) and Sarah (Delusions of Reference) met while they were both at Mercy Ministries, the 'rehab' for young women 'in trouble.' Told this was the one stop, and last stop, for all their mental health struggles and life challenges, that they would be once and finally healed, the two found that despite being promised 'holistic and professional care', it would take many months and years to recover from this 'rehab'. Join us as these courageous and strong women tell the story of hell in the place of healing run by a strange set of cronies, Nancy Alcorn, and the Hillsong gang. Hosted on Acast. We had the honor of hosting DOOR (Deaf Reaching Deaf For Christ) and Vessels of Mercy Ministries on October 8th, 2023. Bobby McCoy spoke through a sign language interpreter for the first portion of the message on behalf of DOOR and Bob McCoy gave a slideshow update for Vessels of Mercy. Despite this being a moderately visual message, we wanted to provide the audio so everyone can hear what amazing things God is doing through these wonderful ministries. On this episode of Gifts and Graces, we get to hear Jasper Reynolds, Randy Nabors, and a few special guests introduce a new approach to welcoming struggling neighbors into our church communities. Randy is coordinator of Urban and Mercy Ministries for Mission to North America as well as serving as the coordinator of the New City Network. Jasper is a deacon of First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga, which recently piloted a new diaconate-led ministry called RAPHA that seeks to build relationships with neighbors in need. While conventional mercy ministry relies on financial handouts, RAPHA invites neighbors in need into healing relationships with a loving church family. This was originally recorded as a seminar delivered at 2023 General Assembly. Let's listen in as Jasper, Randy, and a small team from First Pres invite us to replicate their model of welcome and support for struggling community members.
One of our listeners posed a question spurred by the ministry of Charles Spurgeon in London. By 1884, Spurgeon's Metropolitan Tabernacle was running 66 benevolent ministries encompassing just about every human need at that time. So: is mercy ministry meant to be a function of the local church, or is it an assignment for parachurch organizations? In this episode, we share our thoughts on the role of the church (and of individual Christians) when it comes to mercy ministry.
We hear from our Foodbank and CAP Debt Centre and Stef as we think about God's mercy.

László (Laci) is a pastor in Budapest, Hungary. In addition to pastoring a local church, he leads a ministry which helps those caught in human trafficking to escape prostitution and experience lasting freedom. The south side of Budapest, where Laci ministers, is a working class area, known for high levels of crime and prostitution. In this episode, we discuss the theological foundations for "mercy ministries" and how Laci got involved in practical ministry to the poor and oppressed. In January 1983, Nancy Alcorn was determined to establish a program in which lives would truly be transformed. She moved to Monroe, Louisiana to start Mercy Ministries of America (now Mercy Multiplied). She knew that there were three principles to which she must always remain faithful: (1) accept girls free of charge, (2) always give at least ten percent of all donations to other organizations and ministries, and (3) do not take any state or federal funding or any money that interferes with the freedom to share Christ. Several years and many changed lives later, Mercy has established locations in Monroe, Louisiana; Nashville, Tennessee; St. Louis, Missouri; and Sacramento, California. The organization has grown beyond the borders of the United States, including locations in the United Kingdom, and Canada. Nancy spends her life making sure young women have a chance in life with the power of God. This is a Video and audio Podcast episode. The Video is only available on the Spotify platform or our YouTube channel. The audio is available on all platforms. I met up with a group of young people in Center City Philadelphia, who had set up a prayer station in City Hall, offering prayers, sharing hot chocolate and their faith. In fact, I interviewed two of the young people present, Collin and Mckenna, who spent the time to talk with me about their own transformation experience, sharing their faith from a handbook. Importantly, we were reminded that Orthodox Christians views salvation from a "theology of the already but not yet" - we are saved, we are being saved and we shall be saved, indication the transformational journey of the Christian experience. While speaking with Collin and McKenna, you could hear the other YAM youths announcing, "Hot chocolate, free bibles..." and praying for people who stopped to peruse the tables and to have coffee or grab some free literature. Towards the end, I sing a song that was written and composed by my twin brother, Ricardo McKenzie and yours truly - Renaldo McKenzie - years ago, that we had performed at a "Youth for Christ" Event and won the Caribbean Duet Competiton for. It's entitled: "Why Don't You Call Upon the Divine". The YWAM group wears red and white and will be in Center City for the rest of the week and probably the month from 11:00am - 3:00pm with their Prayer Station, offering prayers and sharing free literature, words of encouragement, prayers and their faith. Who are YWAM: "Youth With A Mission" reaches out in 180+ countries through three main areas — Evangelism, Training and Mercy Ministry. Their ministries cover every sphere of society, including ship-based medical care, performing arts teams, Bible training programs, business coaching, sports ministries, anti-trafficking work, and many more. From a late-night vision of waves of young people reaching every continent, given to a 20-year-old in the Bahamas, to a global ministry with over 20,000 workers, the growth of YWAM is the story of God's inspiration, God's grace for many mistakes, and the creativity of the Holy Spirit's leading. The heart of YWAM–to worship God, to serve God's global purposes, and to champion young people–remains as strong as it was in the beginning. In this special series, we are releasing the audio versions of the plenaries and workshops from the OPC National Diaconal Summit IV, held June 2-4, in Wheaton, Illinois. There is so much good content in here, we decided to go ahead and release them in groups, so you can listen at your own pace. We've included the "gold nuggets", in this first grouping; the topics that were most popular at the Summit. This session from the first group is, "Mercy Ministry in a Social Justice World", a workshop led by Rev. Eric Watkins. You can find the notes from the session here. The video version of these topics are on OPCCDM.org. You may want to watch the videos with your fellow deacons, maybe even as a part of your regular meeting, and then discuss. However you decide to use them, you won't be sorry you took the time. As always, like and share, and comment, if you can. We like feedback.
