Taylor Salditch, Chief of Staff at Supermajority, used to believe we could innovate our way to social change. Then she began to listen to people that she didn't naturally come across in her social newsfeeds and her worldview changed. Taylor realized that in order for our democracy to work for everyone, things needed to be different - including the relationship women have with money, politics and power. Why do artists feel so much fear and self doubt around money? I sat down with artist and accountant Hannah Cole to discuss how fear of money impacts what we do and how to reframe that fear into pleasurable experiences. And no, I'm not joking—in this episode we talk about how to enjoy the act of bookkeeping! Happy 4th of July to you all. The Pesci brothers ask Mike in Middle America to join them in a discussion about the new Saudi backed LIV Golf Tour. The Saudi backed tour is offering unheard of sums of money for just joining the tour before a golfer wins a single match. Some say it is going to ruin golf, others say the PGA had this coming for their over-controlling position with golfers, and still others say that it is wrong to take money from the Saudis given their record on human rights. It is complicated. And we finish with Music Time!

All eyes in Washington are turned east, as Russia claims it's open to a diplomatic solution but could still invade Ukraine any day. The Biden administration is preparing for the worst — practicing numerous response scenarios, according to WaPo — and moving its limited Kyiv embassy presence west in case of an invasion. And there was a time when he was considered the model for Democrats looking to flip red seats blue: a former Marine who ran on a centrist platform and won a district Donald Trump carried by 20 points. Today, our Philly-based Pennsylvania politics guru Holly Otterbein spotlights Rep. Conor Lamb's struggle to catch fire with the Democratic base in the Pennsylvania Senate primary, one of the party's best pickup opportunities this fall. Subscribe to POLITICO Playbook. Hello everyoneToday I have a podcast with University of Canberra Associate Professor Caroline Fisher for you. Fisher is a former broadcast journalist working at the News and Media Research Centre - with Professor Sora Park among others - and she has some important data on who is willing to pay for news. She's also currently researching whether trusting news sources influences your willingness to pay (the answer seems to be a little bit, but not nearly as much as being into politics).Because Fisher's interests are diverse and because she is the co-author of the Digital News Report Australia, the conversation moves around quite a bit. As discussed in the newsletter last week, I am particularly interested in the ideological leanings of news outlets, and the Digital News Report is the original data source for the graph I made showing the ideological ordering of Australian news outlets as determined by the politics of their audiences.During the conversation, we reference page 105 in the report, and in particular two graphs. Here are they are:Enjoy the conversation and have a good week,Hal This is a public episode. "Sufferers of diseases, particularly terrible ones like Alzheimer's disease, and their loved ones need and deserve something better than science can deliver today. However, the scientific rigor of the clinical trials process where approval is only granted to drugs with a clear benefit in excess of risk needs to return. Imagine the position this puts neurologists in today. Having a conversation with an Alzheimer's disease patient and family about why prescribing Aduhelm does not make sense. The only thing they would likely hear is they are being robbed of hope, false though it may be. And yet, if the American Academy of Neurology were to actively advise against using Aduhelm and every neurologist in the U.S. treating Alzheimer's disease sufferers were to refuse to prescribe it, the message to the pharmaceutical industry and the FDA would be crystal clear." Wes Campbell is a health care economist. He shares his story and discusses his KevinMD article, "Aduhelm and how money and politics supersede science." With the end of Copa America and the Eurocup, and the Olympics starting soon, sports are on everyone's mind this Summer. Most sports now share various commonalities: a huge influx of money from sponsors, venture capital and huge corporations, injured athletes, corruption, and political ambition. Sports have become an arena for countries, companies, investors, fans, broadcasters, and athletes to jostle in a global free-for-all to prove who's on top. Is it all too much? Altamar hosts Peter Schechter and Muni Jensen are joined by Nick Sprague, co-owner of sports biotech and data science leader Orreco, to sort out the intricacies of the sports industry. Altamar's ‘Téa's Take' by Téa Ivanovic discusses women in sports, in both the developing world and wealthy countries, as well as the challenges, changes, and future opportunities they face.

Patriotic Millionaire Abigail Disney has spoken out strongly against inequality. She famously said that even Jesus does not deserve to earn 500 times that of the median worker. She has said that President Trump's tax cuts for the richest 1% are a travesty and are fueling greater inequality in the US. In this interview with Winnie, Abigail speaks about what drives her to be a ‘traitor to my class’ and come together with other rich people in the United States as one of the Patriotic Millionaires. The Patriotic Millionaires are a brilliant campaign group that is calling for higher taxes on the rich, an end to the political influence of extreme wealth, and decent living wages for workers, all as a way to fight inequality. Money in politics has gotten a bad rap, especially from the left -- which is odd, because some of the biggest money around in politics is liberal money. The Capital Research Center has traced where the money is in U.S politics, and recently I spoke with their president, Scott Walter. He unpacked the idea of “dark money” and explained who’s paying who, and what kind of impact it actually has. Plus: As we approach Independence Day, national pride is at a new low. What’s up with that? We’ll discuss. We also cover these stories:•The House Ways and Means Committee has filed a lawsuit to get President Trump's tax returns. •The Border Patrol is saying Rep. I didn't get to this story Wednesday night so we'll start here. Christian baker Jack Phillips, who was recently handed a victory at the Supreme Court over the Colorado Civil Rights Commission has filed a new lawsuit against the Civil Rights Commission because the Civil Rights Commission has issued a preliminary ruling penalizing him for not baking a gender transition celebration cake. In the latest on the topic of the failing of intersectionality, Vanderbilt University has changed the name and description of a scheduled workshop that accused “white women” of failing to do enough to combat white supremacy. New York governor Andrew Cuomo took his progressive rhetoric a little too far when he declared that he's not interested in "making America great again" because it was "never that great." A young American couple who believed that evil was a make-believe concept end up proving that ISIS is evil. At the top of the second hour, I will be joined by Seamus Bruner, Associate Director of Research at the Government Accountability Institute and the author of the new book Compromised: How Money and Politics Drive FBI Corruption to discuss what is going on in the FBI and in the DOJ.

Moving the Folly Boat back to where it would cost over $100,000!
Picking up where we left off, we look at the socioeconomic impacts of leaving the Paris Accord, and more importantly, how renewable energy stacks up as a jobs creating supercharged engine compared to the fossil fuel industry. And a look at the INSANE government subsidies that the fossil fuels STILL gets!!
Starting off Part 2 in this multipart series, we examine the decades long misinformation campaign that the fossil fuels industry exposed the world to in denying climate change. Fossil fuels industry lobby groups are exposed and a look at what and how they’ve operated.
Keeping this investigation going, we talk about the fossil fuels industry billionaires that have financed the misinformation campaign against climate change science and are buying your elected officials in order to insure their interests remain unscathed by regulations. We expose the political puppets that the fossil fuels billionaires have bought, placing their interests ahead of their constituents. And we look at the Paris Climate Accord once more. Looking at the misinformation the Trump Administration is issuing on behalf of the fossil fuel lobby. And the geopolitical impact of the United States backing out of the Paris Accord and a look at what the European Union, China, and India have planned in the years ahead, and the investment dollars they’re collecting in private investment to do things.
We finish up Part 2 with a look at how the financial investment brokerages are starting to divest from fossil fuel projects due to climate change and corporate responsibilities toward green energy. And we look at the resounding support that the Paris Accord receives, both globally and here at home. The move to improve our world is far from dead.

Will the McCutcheon decision "open a floodgate" for big money in politics, or be a First Amendment victory? We hear about the latest decision on campaign finance reform.
Money is the mother's milk of politics. If you doubt that, just notice the number of contribution requests that fill the TV screens and clutter your mailbox, and the fact that more than half the members of Congress are millionaires! Even the most rudimentary political campaigns cost many thousands of dollars to launch, and even more to keep the elected bureaucrats in office. Of course, nobody ever makes a significant contribution to a political candidate without expecting something in return. I believe it's called "cronyism." Now add cronyism to Executive Order and you have Tyranny. However, public laws are messy. They take time, and aren't always predictable. What to do? Just issue an Executive Order, of course. President Obama has publicly stated that he would act on his various schemes "with or without Congress."
