This week, Les chats with Dan Lauria and Patty McCormack about the Off-Broadway premiere of Just Another Day, a play about wonderful old friends who may not even know each other, but who relive and celebrate a life together...maybe. In Just Another Day, a comedy writer and a sophisticated poet in their seventies meet daily on a park bench to exchange wits and barbs, and wax nostalgic about old movies, all the while trying to figure out how they know – and love – each other. At least for that day. Directed by Eric Krebs, the two-member cast is Dan Lauria, who also wrote the show, alongside Patty McCormack. Between them, Lauria and McCormack have over 100 years of live theatrical experience, as well as over 150 television shows and films. Dan Lauria has appeared as a guest star in over seventy television episodic programs and more than twenty Movie Of The Week productions plus a score of motion picture credits. Dan is a very familiar face to the off-off, off and regional theatre scene having performed, written or directed over 50 professional stage productions. Dan is most recognized as the Dad on the highly acclaimed, Emmy winning, ABC television show, “The Wonder Years.” Patty McCormack brings to her role more than seven decades of stage, screen and television appearances. From her Oscar and Golden Globe nominated performance in The Bad Seed to work in the Oscar and Golden Globe Nominated Frost/Nixon and The Master; starring in her own television series “Peck's Bad Girl” to creating memorable characters on television favorites from “Dallas” to the “The Soprano's”; and her extensive theatrical work beginning with a Broadway debut at the age of six in Touchstone starring Ossie Davis. Patty McCormack brings her diverse range of talent to every role she plays. We talk about writing, acting, their connection to live theater, and much more. If you're in the New York area and want to catch the show (and you should) tickets are $49-$69 ($99 premium) and may be obtained at www.theater555.venuetix.com.

Some considerable time has passed since we last explored the 'movie of the week' genre on the podcast. Luckily, if we ever run out of 90s films to talk about, there are literally thousands to pull from. This is one that has really stuck with me since I was a teenager. I remember taping this from tv and cutting the commercials out so I could watch it back uninterrupted. Out of all of the films, this particular one I watched ALL the time. I got Charles on this episode who knew nothing about it to watch it for the episode. While you think it may be a more lighthearted tale of a girl who leaves home, that is most definitely not the whole story. It gets pretty dark when this teenager is coping with how to survive on the streets with her 19 year old (eek) boyfriend/partner in crime. We talk the ins and outs of the story and just how much happens to them along the way, the holes in the story, and why we wish there was a more detailed ending to this tale.  Watch the movie: https://youtu.be/2EbTXn9yf-8?si=A44Unq775_M-LqULOff-topic rants include: proper wildlife identification, forestry, and runaway teen protocol --- Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the  Patreon! GIVE US A 5 STAR RATING & SUBSCRIBE!Hosts: Lauren @lauren_melanie & Charles @charleshaslamFollow Fashion Grunge PodcastSubstack The Lo Down: a Fashion Grunge blog/newsletterInstagram @fashiongrungepodTwitter @fgrungepodLetterboxd Fashion Grunge PodcastTikTok @fashiongrungepod

For some reason, the only explicitly-named media crossover we ever got was the made-for-TV movie. All sorts of works are adapted from one medium to another, but to my knowledge, the only time a medium itself was adapted was when they made movies, but for TV. It never went the other way. We also never got the made-for-TV book, the made-for-book play, or the made-for-opera cassette tape.

"The Rise and Fall of a Legal Legend: The Alex Murdaugh Story" From his humble beginnings in Varnville, South Carolina, Alex Murdaugh seemed destined for greatness. With a Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law and admission to the South Carolina Bar, the future was bright. But beneath the surface of success, darkness lurked. From 2011 to 2019, Murdaugh allegedly failed to report over $6 million of illegal income. And when his housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield, met an untimely end. But that was just the tip of the iceberg. The tragedy continued when Murdaugh's own son, Paul, was implicated in the death of Mallory Beach. And then, on June 7, 2021, Murdaugh's wife and son were found dead at their estate. But it wasn't until October 14, 2021 that the truth came to light. Murdaugh was arrested for stealing insurance settlements and faced a litany of charges including forgery, breach of trust, money laundering, and computer crimes. His fall from grace was complete when he was disbarred and charged with murder. But even as the evidence stacked up against him, Murdaugh was granted a $7 million bond and stood trial in Colleton County. The trial of the century began on January 25, 2023. Was justice finally served, or did Murdaugh get away with murder? Find out in "The Rise and Fall of a Legal Legend: The Alex Murdaugh Story". In 2010-11 Dan was seen on Broadway in the long running production of LOMBARDI as the legendary coach Vince Lombardi with the beautiful and talented Judith Light, directed by Thomas Kail of Hamilton fame and returned again in the 2013-14 productions of the Tony nominated A CHRISTMAS STORY: The Musical, directed by John Rando.  Dan and dear friend, the lovely and talented Ms. Wendie Malick have performed the play THE GUYS by Anne Nelson (about our first responders) for numerous theatre and fire departments, around the country. Wendie and Dan also perform LOVE LETTERS as a fundraiser for regional theatres, for the development of new plays.  Dan has a long-standing acting career in which he has been seen worldwide on the TBS TV show, SULLIVAN & SON, for three seasons and also played Al Loungo on PITCH: about the first woman pitcher in major league baseball. His most recent role is him joining the family of THIS IS US as the father of Toby. Dan has now wrote and starred in the off Broadway production of DINNER WITH THE BOYS produced by the one and only Pat Addis and the NJ Rep. This was followed by a off Broadway production of THE STONE WITCH by Shem Bitterman and the upcoming Regional production of Lee Blessings new play; TEA WITH THE BOSS with Gwenn and Wendie Malick.  When Dan is not on screen or a Broadway stage he and his Godson Julian Farnsworth are writing children's books. The most popular one today is The Godfather Tales.
