How can chiropractic care help with migraine headaches?Studies have shown that chiropractic care can be an effective treatment for migraines. One study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that chiropractic care was effective in reducing the frequency and intensity of migraines in a group of patients over a period of four weeks. Another study published in the Journal of Headache and Pain found that chiropractic care was as effective as a commonly prescribed medication for migraines.Chiropractic care for migraine headaches can also help address other factors that may contribute to migraines, such as muscle tension, poor posture, and stress. By improving overall spinal health and reducing tension in the muscles and joints, chiropractic care can help prevent the onset of migraines and reduce their severity when they do occur.Core Health Darien203-656-3636This podcast welcomes your feedback here are several ways to reach out to me. Is your neck pain causing you to lose sleep?Rarely do people take note of how they sleep when they are having pain. The pain is the big draw and is what usually gets you to act. But if you pay close attention you may notice that you are not getting quality sleep when your neck hurts. I am going to tell you why in as simple a way I can think of.Nerves help the brain control your entire body. When a nerve is compressed it limits the functionality of nerve transmission to and from the brain. Chances are when your spinal bones are misaligned they can cause you to have pain. The displaced spinal bones also can cause you to lose sleep. The cervical bones in your neck want to be in the right place. When they are not it makes it difficult for you to get comfortable enough to obtain restful REM sleep. Now for the complicated explanation, I warned you about earlier. At the top of your neck lies that brain stem. The brain stem is a relay point for most of the nerves in your body. They go through the brain stem and then upwards to the various parts of the brain. There is a nerve bundle called the Reticular Activating System. It deals with your awake and sleep cycles. That is the extent of the complicated explanation. When spinal bones compress the Reticular Activating System it becomes harder for your body to drift off to restful sleep. What is the takeaway? A chiropractor can really help put the vertebra where they belong. Most of us rely on Advil to quell the pain. So if you reach for Advil the pain will subside but you still may have pressure on your nerves. Now restful sleep becomes more problematic as your body tends to heal when you sleep. My advice is don't ignore pain if your neck hurts and if you want to get better sleep. Again, this is where a chiropractor can really help. Now I know most MDs will tell you to stay away from chiropractors. They may understand medicine but they are lacking in the mechanics of your body and how they relate to nervous system function. It is all about structure and function. The body is a biomechanical wonder that needs attention you can not get from medicine alone. If you have neck pain and would like to sleep better call me. Neck Discomfort DarienPerhaps you have had a little problem resting where you can not appear to obtain comfy. Maybe you have an old neck injury that creates you to have neck discomfort every once in a while. These can be small inconveniences till they are not. Your neck begins to trouble you extra frequently, so you transform to Advil and also Aleve. When do you intend to quit the insanity? I recommend prior to it's far too late. Frequently easy neck discomfort morphs right into frustrations or shoulder discomfort. Exactly how close is the head as well as shoulders to the neck? Pretty close I would certainly state that several shoulder troubles as well as frustrations begin with the neck.Neck Pain Turns Into HeadachesIn case you did not know the nerves from the top neck enter into your head. This can create occipital migraines. An additional think about is the brainstem (medulla oblongata) mosts likely to the degree of the 2nd cervical vertebra. Ouch! , if That obtains squeezed.. When the cervical vertebra are misaligned these muscle mass are called to function also harder, the muscular tissues in your neck are not that solid so. The continuously stretched neck muscle mass placed included stress on the spinal nerves resulting in, you presumed it a lot more frustrations. My recommendation is to take treatment of a straightforward neck issue when it is small. Go see a chiropractic doctor as well as straighten the cervical spinal column. This can go a long way in preventing migraines as a result of underlying neck concerns.Neck Pain develops into Shoulder PainThe closeness of the cervical spinal column to the shoulders is plainly noticeable. The cervical spine nerves wrap at the base of the neck right into what is called the brachial plexus. The brachial plexus guidelines the upper extremities. The nerves regulate motor and also sensory control over the arms, certainly the shoulders also. When your neck is limited, maybe extra aching than normal it would certainly be a great time to see a chiropractic doctor for your neck discomfort. Think of resolving one issue prior to it comes to be much more challenging as well as develops into a neck as well as a shoulder issue. The factor I am attempting to make is that your neck is carefully pertaining to your shoulder. Neck discomfort left neglected over a long period of time can begin to trigger you to have shoulder issues. When attempting to rest, it can begin as easy as light pain in the neck. When you have a lot more discomfort and also much less rest it is time to discover a chiropractic physician to handle your neck discomfort.Neck Pain Darien CTCore Health Darien- Dr.Brian Mc Kay551 Post Road Darien CT 06820203-656-3636

Monday, February 14 at Noon Neuropathy@CoreHealth is having an open house to review the latest improvements in the treatment of neuropathic pain. It is estimated that over 30 million Americans suffer from nerve pain outside the central nervous system. This is called peripheral neuropathy. Neuropathy is damage or dysfunction of one or more nerves that typically results in numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, and pain in the affected area. Neuropathies frequently start in your hands and feet, these are the regions furthest away from the heart. We have found that decreased blood flow, poorly oxygenated blood, glucose dysregulation cause nerve damage that leads to neuropathic pain. Here are a few of the warning signs of neuropathy;Numbness or tingling in your hands or feet.Weakness in your arms or legs.Sharp, burning, or throbbing pain.Heightened sensitivity to touch or temperature.Inability to feel your feet and loss of balance.Night pain in the legs and hands.Who gets peripheral neuropathy? The primary population affected by neuropathy are diabetics and pre-diabetics. This is due to poor glucose regulation. The nerve covering can be destroyed in the presence of excess glucose in the blood. When this happens the nerve transmission slows down due to erosion of the myelin sheath. This is the cause of a tremendous amount of nerve pain. The next group to be affected by neuropathic pain are post-chemotherapy patients. The toxic chemicals used to kill cancer cells can erode the myelin sheath causing neuropathic pain. People who abuse alcohol are also at risk of developing peripheral neuropathy. Alcohol is a sugar and this eats away at the nerve causing pain as well. So if you think you have neuropathy you should attend. The first 10 people will receive a Thermal Imaging Scan at no charge. this usually goes for $139. It will demonstrate if they are getting enough blood flow to the extremities. We will be showing how Neuropathy@CoreHealth restores oxygen levels in the blood. We will also demonstrate sophisticated therapies that help damaged nerve cells regrow. The complimentary thermal scan is only for the first 10 people to sign up. This Open House will inform you of what you can start doing to help yourself and ease the difficulties associated with peripheral neuropathy. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/valentines-day-neuropathy-open-house-tickets-261376041777

What is Frozen Shoulder?Icy shoulder, also referred to as adhesive capsulitis, is a problem defined by tightness and also discomfort in your shoulder joint. Signs and symptoms usually begin progressively, intensify with time, and after that solve, normally within one to 3 years. Here is the development of icy shoulder signs and symptoms. It begins with any kind of movement of your shoulder that creates pain, as well as your shoulder's series of motion, begins to become minimal. Normally, this will be disregarded or treated with warm, 10s systems, or NSAIDs. Next off, if there was any discomfort it may begin to diminish at first throughout this next phase. Nevertheless, your shoulder ends up being stiffer, and also utilizing it becomes harder. Watch out since right here is where the shoulder discomfort, as well as difficulty resting, begins to show up.Relaxing sleep comes to be harder to achieve contributing to boosted pain as scar cells starts to develop in the slim muscular tissue covering called the fascia. Simple motions become gradually a lot more uncomfortable as well as you normally begin to make use of the shoulder less as well as less. This permits greater infiltration of scar-like bonds causing even more shoulder pain and less motion.Radial Pulsed Shock Wave treatment, also referred to as Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Modern Technology (EPAT) is one of the most sophisticated non-invasive treatment authorized by the FDA. Core Health and wellness has actually been using this effective therapy for numerous years. Here is how it functions, it utilizes stress waves that promote the metabolic process, improve blood circulation and also increase the healing process, allowing harmed tissue to regenerate and heal. The next part of taking care of a frozen shoulder is to isolate specific muscle teams that we have found to be the genuine perpetrator in adhesive capsulitis. The latissimus dorsi muscles, known as the lats, are the big V-shaped muscle mass that connect your arms to your vertebral column. They aid protect and also stabilize your spinal column while providing shoulder and also back strength. We find the Lats to be shortened. Successive normally the subscapularis is shortened too. The subscapularis internally or medially revolves the humerus. So you can see why it might be associated with frozen shoulder instances, usually these muscle mass are extended to fix the role they play in adhesive capsulitis. Our findings additionally include a damaged deltoid and also a damaged subscapularis muscular tissue. These must be reinforced to enhance the total feature of the shoulder. Clients report nearly instant enhancement when utilizing EPAT, muscle conditioning, and also muscle mass extending. If you would certainly like more details call Core Health Darien at 203-656-3636 and get the assistance you require. Bear in mind the old means of treating can take years. What does it mean when you have a herniated disc in your back?A herniated disc often referred to as a bulging disc is a condition that indicates a problem with a rubbery disc between the spinal bones. The disc is made from cartilage and acts as a shock absorber that allows the spinal vertebra to move dynamically with mechanical efficiency. This condition occurs when the soft center of a spinal disc pushes through a crack in the tougher exterior casing. This causes the disc to put pressure on the spinal cord and the nerve roots that exit the spine at the intervertebral foramen. The lower back pain a herniated disc causes can be severe and debilitating. What are the symptoms of a herniated disc?If you have a herniated lumbar disc, you may feel the pain that radiates from your low back area, down one or both legs, and sometimes into your feet (called sciatica). You may feel pain like an electric shock that is severe whether you stand, walk, or sit. Time to call yur chiropractor who specializes in treating bulging discs. Some herniated discs cause no symptoms. Others can irritate nearby nerves and result in pain, numbness, or weakness in an arm or leg. The more chronic the condition of the herniated disc the greater the severity of the pain. Some MRI imaging studies show severely damaged spinal discs, yet the patient has no pain. It should be noted that of the 9 nerve types that exit the spine, only 2 deal with pain. So you should be concerned with other symptoms such as muscle strength loss, as well as numbness and tingling. The numbness and tingling are clinically significant. The nerves causing numbness and tingling are typically large-diameter afferent nerves that send signals directly from the body part to and from the brain. Weakness is a major concern especially in the absence of lower back pain as these large diameter afferent nerves help regulate the autonomic nervous systemBest Treatment for a herniated or bulging disc.If you leave a herniated disc untreated, you may experience intense, sharp pains, partial paralysis, or the inability to control bowel movements in relatively dire situations. The most effective treatment for a bulging disc or a herniated disc is chiropractic care. A chiropractor will remove the pressure being placed on the herniated disc. Often additional physical therapy is applied to help soothe the overworked spinal muscles. Core Health uses EPAT and spinal decompression to help take additional stress off the bulging disc.
Architect Jim Evans moved to the Modernist mecca of New Canaan CT in 1957. By then the town had many Modernist houses, not only by the Harvard Five of Breuer, Noyes, Johnson, Johansen, and Gores but others like Frank Lloyd Wright and Edward Durell Stone. USModernist special correspondent Rafe Schlanger talked with Evans in what would be Evans' last interview. Later, enchanting jazz from Manhattan Transfer's Janis Siegel.
Every town hopes that someone will come along, and at no expense to the town, create something beautiful. We're not talking a new mall. We're talking acres of flowing grounds open to the public, an award-winning complex of stunningly beautiful buildings by a world-class architecture firm, and a philanthropic mission that includes, among other noteworthy causes, the elimination of slave labor in the construction supply chain. One visionary person did just that in the Modernist center of New Canaan CT, notable for houses by Philip Johnson, Eliot Noyes, John Johansen, Frank Lloyd Wright, Edward Durell Stone, Gisue and Mojgan Hariri, Jim Evans, and other famous Modernists. What did our heroine get in return for this amazing project? A cranky Planning and Zoning board and crankier neighbors who apparently are into lawsuits. Joining us is Sharon Prince, CEO and Founder of Grace Farms. Later on, jazz from Canada with musical guest Lily Frost.

What is Frozen Shoulder?Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition characterized by stiffness and pain in your shoulder joint. Signs and symptoms typically begin gradually, worsen over time and then resolve, usually within one to three years. Here is the progression of frozen shoulder symptoms. It begins with any movement of your shoulder that causes pain, and your shoulder's range of motion starts to become limited. Usually, this will be ignored or treated with heat, tens units, or NSAIDs. Next, if there was any pain it may begin to diminish initially during this next stage. However, your shoulder becomes stiffer, and using it becomes more difficult. Watch out because here is where the shoulder pain and difficulty sleeping starts to turn up. Restful sleep becomes more difficult to attain adding to increased pain as scar tissue starts to form in the thin muscle covering called the fascia. Simple movements become gradually more painful and you naturally start to use the shoulder less and less. This allows for greater infiltration of scar-like adhesions resulting in even more shoulder pain and less motion. Radial Pulsed Shock Wave therapy, also known as Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT) is the most advanced non-invasive treatment approved by the FDA. Core Health has been using this effective therapy for several years. Here is how it works, it uses pressure waves that stimulate the metabolism, enhance blood circulation and accelerate the healing process, allowing damaged tissue to regenerate and heal. The next part of fixing a frozen shoulder is to isolate specific muscle groups that we have found to be the real culprit in adhesive capsulitis. The latissimus dorsi muscles, known as the lats, are the large V-shaped muscles that connect your arms to your vertebral column. They help protect and stabilize your spine while providing shoulder and back strength. We find the Lats to be shortened. Next up usually the subscapularis is shortened as well. The subscapularis internally or medially rotates the humerus. So you can see why it might be involved in frozen shoulder cases, typically these muscles are stretched to resolve the role they play in adhesive capsulitis. Our findings also include a weakened deltoid and a weakened subscapularis muscle. These must be strengthened to improve the overall function of the shoulder. Patients report almost immediate improvement when using EPAT, muscle strengthening, and muscle stretching. If you would like more information call Core Health Darien at 203-656-3636 and get the help you need. Remember the old way of treating can take years. So if you would like help with your shoulder pain I suggest you make the call.

Back Pain ProjectLet’s be honest. While working from home may have sounded a little fun before COVID-19 — conference calls in bed, yay — the novelty is wearing off.Your back hurts. Your neck is tight. And your butt? Numb and sore. First off, sitting for long periods of time is never good for your body and really bad for your back pain. And if where you are sitting happens to be soft, like a sofa or a mattress, you are going to start to feel strain and lower back pain if your posture is lacking. Anytime we sit, we are putting a strain on our bodies. Sitting causes us to bend our backs [and our hips], and move away from what’s called the “neutral range posture” for joints. That is when your ears, shoulder, and hip are in a straight line. This move away from neutral range posture puts stress on your back and neck, increasing pressure on these tissues and triggering sensors in the brain that is perceived as pain or stiffness. When it comes to sitting on a couch or bed, it’s a bit of a different story. While at first it can feel comfortable, as you start to sink into the couch or mattress, you end up creeping into a poor posture that’s much more extreme, and potentially harder on your body. I am certain that that the softer surface tricks your brain because it happens so slowly that you don’t really notice how your posture changes. We also need to be mindful of how long we’re in these postures. Sitting for the whole day without taking a break…the bigger consequence is going to be the overall impact on our health, which is probably the most important thing to keep in mind,” she says, adding that getting up and moving around for a few minutes at every hour is a good way to help posture. Chris Lynch is the President, Founder and owner of Legacy Properties Sotheby's International Realty. From its inception in 2006, Chris has grown the company from its six founding brokers to more than 80 Maine and New Hampshire based real estate agents and 5 offices serving Coastal Communities from Rye, NH to Jonesport, ME. In recent years he has expanded to the Western Lakes and Mountains in addition to our ability to serve the New Hampshire Seacoast. In this time of great transition, Chris is leading his company in new ways. After 17 years on Wall Street, Chris gave up his role as a Managing Director, Principle and Global Head of the Investment Grade Bond Department at Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette. Prior to that he held positions in Investment Banking and Debt Capital Markets at Kidder Peabody, Credit Suisse and Solomon Smith Barney. During this time, he had the opportunity to live in New York City, Brooklyn NY, London England and New Canaan CT. Chris had a vision to change the way luxury property was bought and sold in Maine and developed a model which is more friendly to the majority of buyers and led him to found the company in the midst of the last downturn. That experience has helped him lead in these times. A graduate of Bates College (ME) and Andover High School (MA), Chris has a passion for the coast of Maine. Chris and his wife Laura have resided in Cape Elizabeth for 18-years and have 4 children: Andrew (26). Jake (25), Emily (23) and Alexandra (18). Chris serves on the Finance Committee at Maine Medical Center, and is active with several charitable organizations in Maine. He has also served on the Board for the Greater Portland Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Directors for Maine Listings, the Kieve-Wavus Education Foundation, and the Board of Assessment Review for the Town of Cape Elizabeth. In his free time, Chris enjoys golf, boating in Casco Bay, skiing at Sugarloaf and paddle tennis.
In the lovely town of New Canaan CT, from the 1940s through the 1990s, no one was more influential than architect Philip Johnson. His internationally-famous Glass House celebrated its 70th anniversary recently with a huge outdoor party and aerial performance by Philippe Petit, known for his daring and highly unauthorized wirewalk between the World Trade Center towers pre-2001. New Canaan is full of mid-century Modernist architecture from Johnson, Eliot Noyes, Marcel Breuer, John Hedjuk, and John Johansen, collectively known as the Harvard Five, plus other architects such as Edward Durell Stone, Frank Lloyd Wright, and James Evans. Host George Smart sat down inside the Johnson-designed 1953 Wiley House with Inger Stringfellow and Cristina Ross.
Today host George Smart and special guest cohost Kate Wagner of McMansion Hell dives into two Modernist house museums by internationally famous architects: Richard Neutra’s VDL house in LA and Philip Johnson’s Glass house in New Canaan CT. Richard Neutra became one of the most important architects in the world. In fact, Time Magazine featured Neutra on its cover and ranked him second only to Frank Lloyd Wright. Our first guest is Sarah Lorenzen, Director of the Neutra's VDL house in Los Angeles, a place where he experimented with new Modernist building materials and techniques. Philip Johnson was an architect but he thrived on being a kingmaker to the growing Modernist movement. He organized the profoundly influential exhibition on International Style at the Museum of Modern Art in 1932 which introduced important Modernist architects such as Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, and Mies van der Rohe. Joining the conversation is Cole Akers of the Glass House, former home to Johnson and his partner David Whitney in New Canaan CT.

In the episode of The Pizza Podcast Lorenzo Collela Join's us to talk about growing up in the Pizza Industry in Connecticut working class neighborhood In 1967, at a time when Richard Nixon was still the president, Joe's Pizza became the first pizzeria to open in the town of New Canaan. Originally located on East Avenue, the pizzeria was opened by Neapolitan Joe Colella alongside his wife Annunziata “Nunzia” Colella. Joe and Nunzia made special lasagnas, manicotti, pizza dough, the sauce, and eggplant parm from scratch. The meatball recipe still made each day at Joe's Pizza is the very one Nunzia brought with her from Italy. Over the years Joe's Pizza moved twice. Joe's was moved to Forest Street, which today shares a rear entrance area with Joe's Pizza's current location on Locust Avenue, where Joe's moved and has been since 1995. More than fifty years later Joe's is now run by Lorenzo Collela and continues the tradition of serving up homemade pizzas, pastas, grinders, salads and entrees to hungry New Canaanites. Through Superbowls, Halloween nights and providing homemade beef stew to first responders during blizzard, Joe's Pizza is the best pizza in town!
