In today's episode, we have the privilege of sharing our conversation with pastor and author Mark Batterson. Mark Batterson serves as lead pastor of National Community Church in Washington, DC. He holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Regent University and is the author of 24 books including the New York Times bestselling The Circle Maker as well as In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, and, most recently, A Million Little Miracles. As Mark likes to say, "There's only 2 ways to live your life - as if nothing is a miracle, or as if everything is."   His advice to dads is pretty straightforward: love your family as God has loved you. While this is simple, that doesn't mean it's easy. We get into some practical ways to love our kids as our Father has loved us. "How are your kids going to learn to say sorry if they don't hear it from you?" "We have to help our kids cultivate holy, non-anxious curiosity." "You can't force feed your kids Scripture...but you can live it." "We create the world our kids live in through our words." These are just some of the nuggets of wisdom from today's episode with Mark. We hope this conversation is encouraging, enlightening, and inspires you to go forth as a dad with refreshed love and kindness towards your kids.   Check out Mark's latest book: https://www.markbatterson.com/books/a-million-little-miracles/   -------------------------------------------------------------------------   Support the show and upgrade your fatherhood swag. Shop Range Leather and get 15% OFF with code MJ15 Grab some fresh beans! https://rangecoffee.com/ Buy Kent's latest book Don't Bench Yourself here: Don't Bench Yourself on Amazon      Read the new State Of Biblical Fatherhood report here: http://manhoodjourney.org/sobf Find tools to share the report here: https://manhoodjourney.org/sobf-tools     Have a topic you want us to touch on? Live Unoffended By GodMatthew 11:6 “And blessed is he who takes no offense at me.”  This is a tiny sentence in a great big bible.  You may have heard it many times before and not even noticed it because it is so small.  Also, you may have heard and it not understood what it meant.  This had definitely happened to me before.  I have read something and for one reason or another I did not understand what it meant.  Sometimes I will look at the footnotes and will get a better understanding of what the statement meant.  To be honest, I am not sure if I heard this verse before or not.  I know that I definitely did not understand what it meant or take any notice of it.  That is, until I read about it in that book I keep talking about The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson.  You really must read that book, it is so good!  Anyway, as soon as I heard about what this verse meant, I knew I wanted to share it with people because I had never thought of it before and I know it is something that we can all do.  In the book Mark talks about this couple he knows that are prayer warriors or prayer giants.  You know the kind of people I am talking about, right?  The people who seem to have a direct line to God.  All of their prayers seem to get answered.  My mom and dad are prayer warriors.  They have had so many answered prayers and witnessed numerous miracles.  If you know my parents, they are the first people you call when you are in need of prayers.  Mark talked about how the couple's prayers for others were often answered, however, prayers for their own lives went unanswered.  He said they took a leap of faith and went into the world of filmmaking and they lost their life savings because the financial backing promised to them never came through.  They lost their home in a fire.  The lost three out of four parents in four years.  And a rare genetic condition has taken a toll physically, emotionally and financially.  It seemed like God was answering everyone else's prayers, except their own.  Have you ever felt this way?  Have you ever felt like God was answering the prayers of everyone around you, but yours were going unheard for some reason?  This couple said there had been moments when they have been tempted to throw in the towel, but the promise above has kept them going.  “And Blessed is he who takes no offense to me.  Here is the context of that promises as Mark Batterson explains it in his book The Circle Maker:Jesus is doing miracles right and left. He is healing diseases driving out demons and restoring sight to the blind, but John the Baptist misses the miracle train. It seems like Jesus is rescuing everybody except His most faithful follower, who is in prison. And John is his cousin, nonetheless. It seems like Jesus could have, and maybe should have, organized a rescue operation and busted him out before he was beheaded. Instead He sent a message via John's disciples. He tells them to tell John about all the miracles He is doing, and then He asks them to relay this promise: "Blessed is the one who is not offended by me.”I had never thought of this before.  I had never thought about how John the Baptist might have felt seeing his cousin performing miracles all around him and yet he was stuck in jail.  I wonder if he did feel offended?  My first instinct is to say that he didn't because he seemed like he was so close to God and I think we tend to put anyone who we think is that close to God on a pedestal.  We think that because they were devoted to God that they have it all together and that that following God and His ways comes easy to them.  When I start to think like this, I need to remind myself that they are human and we all struggle with our thoughts and actions.  I don't know if John the Baptist felt offended by Christ or not.  I do know that this is a completely normal human response. If you are feeling offended because God is answering the prayers of all those around you and not yours please know that this is completely normal and understandable.  We can be happy for others and sad for ourselves at the same time.  I know I may keep mentioning that you can feel two things at the same time, but that is because I keep talking to so many people that are feeling guilty for being upset about something because they should be feeling grateful.  Or, they feel guilty because they should be feeling happy that their friend just got pregnant, but they feel sad that they have not gotten pregnant yet.  You don't have to feel guilty about your feelings.  It is ok to have two competing emotions at the same time.  It is not just ok, it is completely normal.  I wanted to share this verse because I know some people that have been feeling offended by God lately.  They are wondering why everyone else seems to be more favored or more deserving.  If this is you, I hope you take comfort in this passage.  “Blessed is the one who is not offended by me.”  God does not favor others more than you.  God is a mystery.  We don't know why He does what He does.  We know He has a plan for our lives and we also know He is not super forthcoming with what that plan is.  He is more of a “reveal one step at a time” God.  One thing we know for sure is that He keeps His promises.  So, if God is not answering your prayers it doesn't mean that He doesn't care for you as much as others.  You know Jesus had to have cared for His cousin.  You know God had to have been proud of His faithful servant John who lived in the woods and baptized people and preached repentance.  And yet, John the Baptist was beheaded.  God loves you!  He loves each one of His children equally and more than we could ever imagine.    If your prayers aren't being answered, I know it is hard.  I know it is hard to see others receive their miracles while you are still waiting.  I know it may feel like you are never going to receive your answers.  Please don't give up asking.  Please don't give up expecting them to be answered.  Try to rely on this promise that you are Blessed.  My hope is this shift in perspective will help you not throw the towel in.  Instead of thinking God must not like you or favor you because your prayers aren't being answered, you can know that you are blessed.  You can know that you are in good company.  Dear Heavenly Father I ask that you bless everyone listening to this episode today. Lord we ask that you help us be an offended by you. We thank you for all the miracles you're doing in the world today and all the prayers that you have answered. Lord we don't know why our prayers may be going unanswered and that is really difficult for us. Lord we ask that you help us with this. If our prayers haven't been answered yet we pray that you give us the perseverance to keep asking and to not give up. We ask that you give us wisdom and clarity if you want us to stop asking for something. As with Paul when he asked for you to heal the thorn in his side and you told him your grace was sufficient for him. If we are asking for something that we don't need or you don't want us to have please take that desire from us. Lord we are so thankful for all you were doing in the world today.  Please help us to be happy for others when you answer their prayers. Please help us to not be offended by this and to know in the depths of our hearts that you love us and you have a wonderful plan for our life. Lord we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen! www.findingtruenorthcoaching.comCLICK HERE TO DONATECLICK HERE to sign up for Mentoring CLICK HERE to sign up for Daily "Word from the Lord" emailsCLICK HERE to sign up for my newsletter & receive a free audio training about inviting Jesus into your daily lifeCLICK HERE to buy my book Total Trust in God's Safe Embrace

For over forty years, these cosmic designs have sparked fevered debate: alien messages, dimensional portals, or human hoaxes? Tonight, we plunge into the heart of this mystery with Citizen D, a former circle-maker whose explosive revelations challenge everything you thought you knew. From eerie compulsions to time-warping synchronicities and ghostly apparitions, he claims the truth lies not in the skies but in the human hands guided by unseen forces. Is it art? Possession? A cosmic conspiracy? Join us as we unravel a phenomenon that blurs the line between creator and creation, where the fields of Wessex whisper secrets of the unknown. Buckle up—this is crop circles like you've never heard before.     GUEST: Citizen D is the pseudonym of a former crop circle maker who spent years crafting intricate designs in the fields of Wessex before retiring a decade ago. Now an enigmatic writer, he explores the paranormal undercurrents of the phenomenon through his provocative Substack and forthcoming book, It Can't Be People. Drawing on interviews with fellow circle-makers, he reveals unsettling accounts of reality-bending experiences, suggesting humans may be conduits for unknown forces. Operating from an undisclosed location to protect his identity, Citizen D combines firsthand expertise with a relentless pursuit of the mystery's deeper truths, challenging both skeptics and believers to rethink the nature of crop circles and human consciousness itself.   SUBSTACK: https://itcantbepeople.substack.com Learn more about your ad choices. Be Bold & Ask For More! (Be Bold Series)Isaiah 40:28-31 “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.  He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”“He will not grow tired or weary.”  I thought of two things when I read this. The first was, wouldn't that be nice?  Wouldn't it be nice not to grow tired or weary?  I know a lot of us have been feeling tired and weary lately.  A lot is going on in our world, and we are ready for a break.  This is why my first thought was, wouldn't that be nice.  My second thought was, do we believe this?  Do we believe that God doesn't grow tired and weary?  I wondered this because I feel as though often times we treat God as though this is not true.  We treat God as if He is not the almighty and powerful Lord that does not grow tired or weary.I say this because we tend to be cautious with our prayers.  We save up our prayers for the really important times, as if we only get so many, and we don't want to run out.  This may sound silly, but you know you have all thought that at one time or another.  Maybe you didn't think that exact thought, but you did hold back from asking God for something because it wasn't that important, and He had bigger things to think about.  We have all done this.  We want to pray that our child wins the football game, but then we feel guilty because there are people with real problems, and we are taking God's attention away from them to ask Him to help our kids win a football game or to help me find a parking spot.  This verse is telling us something that we already know on some level but have trouble believing.  God does not grow tired or weary.  God can help you with your small request and help someone else with their giant request all at the same time.  He can do it all and still not grow tired or weary. He is that amazing. The next line in the verse says that no one can fathom his understanding.  We can't even begin to understand all that the Lord knows.  We see how he is working in our lives, and we think He is a little crazy, or we think He is upset with us because things aren't going our way.  We don't understand that all these things are happening so that His plan for us to have ridiculous goodness can come to fruition.  We needed to lose that job to get this better one.  We needed to lose that sense of security to appreciate it when we regained it.  We needed to go through that hard time to show someone else they can get through it, too.  We can't fathom the Lord's understanding.  It's just like it says in Isaiah 55:8: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.”  The Lord knows what He is doing.  It is ok if we don't understand.  It will all make sense one dayThe next line says, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”  This is something that can help us if we can remember it.  He gives strength to the weary.  How long have we been weary for?  Did we know that God would give us strength?  Did we ask for it?  If a lot is weighing down on your heart, I want you to know I am right there with you.  There isn't a single person I know right now who is coasting through life with no troubles.  We are all weary.  I think it is a condition of living in a broken world.  We are imperfect; we all hurt each other, sometimes without even knowing it.  We have fallen into an age where our own pleasure and our own wants trump all else.  We don't want to hurt our loved ones, and we also don't want to give up the things that we want.  We are weary because we are trying to exist in a world that doesn't understand the Christian way of life.  We are weary because we rely on the world to give us our strength when our Lord sits by, watching and trying to offer us the strength we need.  However, we are so busy trying to do it all ourselves that we don't see him there handing it out.  What is coming to me right now is that we need to stop turning to the world to get our strength and our power.  Yes, the world does offer us power, and it might feel good for a while to have that power.  However, if you find your power from he world, you will never be fulfilled.  You will always be searching for more.  You will have this part of you that will always feel empty.  However, if you turn to the Lord and ask him for your strength and power, He will fill you up completely.  You will be lacking nothing.  It says in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 “But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”  God's power is made perfect in our weakness.  How great would it be if we could be like St. Paul and delight in our weaknesses, insults, hardships, and persecutions?  How often will we need to hear that God will give us strength when we are weary and power when we are weak before we actually believe it?  How long will we turn away from God and look elsewhere to find our power before we return to Him and ask Him?  He is standing there ready to give us all we need for the day, and we are too busy looking everywhere for it that we don't see it.  The verse ends with a great visual.  Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” First, it tells us that everyone grows weary.  It is not just those who have been around for a long time; even the youth grow weary.  Actually, our youth, in particular, these days, seem to be growing weary.  None of us are exempt, yet it says, those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  When we are weary and weak, it is hard to hope.  When we are weary, it is usually because the enemy has worn us down, and we are fresh out of hope.  However, this verse tells us that if we hope in the Lord, he will renew our strength.  There it is again. This verse repeats that the Lord is our strength.  Maybe this time will be the time that we truly hear it.  Maybe today we will believe that the Lord does not grow weary and He doesn't grow tired.  Wouldn't it be great if today is the day that we finally start turning to the Lord and asking him for that strength and power that he is just waiting to give us?I heard these two phrases a few times over the last few days, and they just came to mind again, so I would like to share them with you.  The first is the phrase, “more Lord more.”  The Lord has so much more for you.  We don't want to ask for more sometimes because we don't want to be greedy.  We settle for little answers to our prayers because we don't want to push our luck or feel we should just be happy with what we get.  The Lord wants us to ask for more.  Yes, be grateful for what you receive and still ask for more.  In the book “The Circle Maker,” the author, Mark Batterson, talks about a man praying for rain as they hadn't had rain in a very long time.  This man drew a circle in the ground and told the Lord he would not leave that circle until the rain came.  It finally started to sprinkle.  Everyone started to rejoice, and the man started to pray harder.  He said that was not the rain he was praying for. He was praying for more rain, and it began to rain harder.  He still said that was not the rain he was praying for.  Finally it started to rains so hard that everyone had to run for cover.  The Lord wants to do this in your life as well.  Start saying, “Thank you, Lord, and more, Lord, more.”  Be open to more, and be willing to ask the Lord for more. The other phrase I heard was in the Life in the Spirit Seminar video.  David Mangan was talking about the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  He talked about how we should all be open to whatever gifts the Holy Spirit wants to give us, particularly the gift of speaking in tongues.  This is one that people often don't want as they find it weird.  David said he is open to any gifts the Lord is passing out, and he is getting in line twice.  Then he said, “It's not that I am greedy; it's that I am needy.”  I love this because it is so true.  We don't have to feel as though we are greedy when we say “more Lord more.” We are needy; we all are.  We can't do anything without the Lord, which makes us pretty needy.  I keep feeling as though the Holy Spirit really wants you to hear that the Lord has so much more for each and every one of you.  Our prayers are too little. He is bigger than we give Him credit for.  Stop playing little with your prayers.  Step out in faith and ask for what you truly want; God has more for you.  He does not grow weary or get tired.  Keep asking, don't limit yourself, Our God is a Big God who can do Big things.  He is standing by, waiting for you to trust that and for you to step out in faith and ask for the miracle you have been wanting but are too afraid to ask for.  Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless everyone listening to this episode today.  Lord, you are amazing.  I love it when you speak to me, and you give a specific message for everyone listening.  Lord, help us to believe and truly accept that you don't grow weary or tired and that you love when we come to you.  Help us to turn to you for all we need, Lord.  Help us to look to you for our strength and power, Lord. Help us to say “more Lord more” with the expectant faith that you want to give us more, that you have more to give.  Lord, I know you were speaking to some people individually when you said we needed to step out in faith and ask for more.  I pray that those individuals hear that message deep in their hearts and that You give them the boldness and trust they need to pray those big prayers.  Help us all to pray those big prayers, Lord.  Give us the grace of a more expectant faith, Lord.  We believe, help our unbelief.  Lord, I especially want to pray for those who are weary and need your strength.  Help them, Lord, give them more.  We love you, Lord; you are so amazing.  We are so grateful that with all you give to us, you are telling us to ask for more.  We will take all you have to offer, Lord, not because we are greedy, but because we are needy.  We ask all of this in accordance with your word and in Jesus' holy name, AmenThank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus.  I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow. She is going to share her story and give us wisdom on how to hear the voice of God—how to discern if God is speaking to us. There are some real practical tools on this episode, and I think you are really going to love it. We also talk about surrender on this episode, and I shared how I throw rocks at the beach as a physical act of surrender. For more details, check out the blog post I wrote called Rock Therapy. Welcome back to the Follower of One podcast. I'm Mike Henry Sr., and we do a devotional each workday where we challenge ourselves to live our faith in some way that makes Jesus visible in our workplaces.    Today, I want to talk about Acts 10:3, and I'm stealing this from Mark Batterson in his book, Draw the Circle.   I would like to encourage you to consider getting that book. It's a great book. It's based on the Circle Maker, which is another book that he wrote both about praying circles around our problems until God does something with them. We pray until something happens. Pray as long as it takes.    On day 13 of Draw the Circle, he actually talks about one day. Acts chapter 10, verse 3 from the New American Standard, says, "About the ninth hour of the day, he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God who had just come in and said to him, Cornelius."   Cornelius was a centurion, of the Italian cohort. So, he was based in Rome. He was a devout man. He feared God. It says in verse two and he prayed to God continually, but on some odd day, one day at about three o'clock in the afternoon, he clearly got a vision. An angel of God had just come and said to him, "Cornelius." He'd called his name.   What's happening here is that Cornelius will send some people to Peter. Peter will also experience a vision. And this is the way that the gospel was first given to the Gentiles rather miraculous event, or rather miraculous series of events. Actually, that took place just one day at three o'clock in the afternoon, about the ninth hour of the day, Cornelius got this vision.    Maybe there's something that you've been praying for about your work or a relationship with Jesus, or about how you interact with the people in your workplace. And you've been praying about that for a long time. I want to encourage you to pray one more day. We never know which day it is.   We never know what day and what time God will do what God is going to do. And I'm speaking to myself as I often do. As I pray for things around Follower of One or about, other activities going on in our family and in the lives of our kids and grandkids and my relatives and other people that I know.   I never know when it's the one day. I never know when it's time. God keeps it that way. This isn't about us knowing what God's going to do. It isn't about us, being there at the right moment. This is about us being followers of Jesus, constantly asking, seeking, and knocking. It says here that he was praying.   Cornelius was praying to God continually in verse two. We need to be searching for God, continually. And today I want to encourage you in your workplace search for God continually. Don't give up. Go one more day. We can all go one more day. We can all make one more prayer. We can all purpose in our hearts to wait a little longer, to be patient a little better.   Everyone who knows me knows that I am not the guy saying this to you. I'm saying this to me. This is for me. I want to learn to wait. I want to trust God, because one day at about three o'clock in the afternoon, he will do what he will do. In the meantime, it doesn't mean that we keep doing the same things over and over again, expecting our actions to bring about a different result. It does mean that we continue pursuing God; chasing after him, listening to his ideas and his suggestions, the things that he prompts into our mind that put us on his mission.   And I want to challenge you today. Let God direct you and let's be patient. Let's ask one more day. Let's wait a little longer. And let's trust God a little more.

Your Prayers Will Be Answered!James 5:16: "The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”The Big Life Devotional Podcast has an excellent episode yesterday titled “Praying in Circles.”  What I loved most about this episode is that it gave us an action we can do to pray for our children, or really anything we are praying for.  The idea of praying in circles comes from a book called The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson.  This is an amazing book that talks about praying circles around our problems.  Mark starts his book off by telling us the legend of Honi the Circle Maker—a man bold enough to draw a circle in the sand and not budge from inside it until God answered his prayers for his people. Honi was a man of God.  I am not sure if He was a prophet, or just a prayer warrior, or what.  It had not rained in a very long time and the people in the village came to Honi and begged him to pray to God for rain.  Honi agreed and he drew a circle in the dirt and prayed to God for rain.  He told God he would not step foot out of that circle until it rained.  He prayed and he prayed.  Eventually, it started to sprinkle.  When he saw this he could have stopped praying.  He could have said thank you, Lord, I truly appreciate this little rain that you sent us.  However, He didn't.  He said thank you Lord and also, this is not the rain I am praying for, I am praying for more rain.  He continued to pray and praise the Lord.  Finally, it was raining down so hard it was starting to flood the area, and all those that were standing around watching him pray were running for shelter.  What the Lord just put on my heart as I was typing is that we stop praying too early sometimes.  At the first sign of our prayers being answered we stop praying and accept that small offering as the answer when God actually has so much more to give us.  It is not that we don't want more it is that we think we will be bothering God, or we will be greedy if we expect more.  God wants you to know that is not true.  He has so much more for you and He is just waiting for you to be open to receiving it.  God wants us to expect big things, amazing things. For instance, when we have partial healing, yes, absolutely thank God for that, and also let Him know you are expecting full healing.  Keep asking for what you want.  Don't shy away because you are afraid you are asking for too much. I heard a phrase once and I love it.  It reminds us why we ask for a lot.  The phrase is “I'm not greedy, I'm just needy.” We aren't asking God for more because we are being greedy, we are asking God because we know that we can't do anything on our own and yet through Him, we can do all things.  The verse above says, “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” Do you know what earnest means?  The definition of earnest is “resulting from or showing sincere and intense conviction."  What are you praying for right now?  What is that prayer that you keep asking God about?  That one prayer that you wonder if it will ever be answered?  Are you praying earnestly for it?  The Bible verses we read are talking to us directly.  Each one of us and they are promised by God.  Today's verse tells us that the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.  You can take this to the bank.  This is a factual statement that you can rely on.  If this is true, why haven't some of our prayers been answered? There are a couple of reasons for this.  First and foremost is explained in Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” God is sovereign.  He has a plan and it is better than our plan, even though we tend to think our plan and our timing is better.  God knows what He is doing and so sometimes our prayers take longer than we would like or are answered differently than we would like because God has a better plan than we do.However, I think sometimes our prayers take longer to be answered because of things we do or don't do.  Are we praying earnestly?  Are we asking every single day?  Are we asking for enough or are we settling for scraps?  God doesn't want to give you crumbs from the table.  He wants to give you the whole cake.  Why aren't we asking for the cake?  We will not be bothering God by asking Him for big, bold prayers.  We will be honoring Him.  Have you ever been asked to do something at work or in your personal life and the thing you were being asked to do was really difficult?  How did you feel when someone asked you to do it?  Did you feel honored that they thought you were capable of doing it?  Yes, you might have been nervous, as it was a difficult thing or even just a new thing, and yet you felt honored that someone thought you could handle it or you could be good at it.I remember each time the ladies in my prayer group asked to do a new thing.  For instance when they asked me to be on the discernment team, or they asked me to be on the prayer team.  I was so honored.  It felt amazing to know they thought I was capable of doing those things.  In a similar way, we honor God when we ask really big, bold prayers.  We show Him we know how amazing He is.  We show Him that we know He can do the impossible and that nothing is too big for Him. We are not asking God for too much, we are asking too little of Him.  It talks about persistence in the circle maker too.  Mark Batterson talks about how we give up too soon sometimes when we are praying.  We assume it is not God's will if He takes too long to answer and yet maybe God is just waiting to see how badly we want it.  What we are willing to do for it.  For instance what if Honi, drew that circle in the sand and stood there for 5 hours and then gave up and yet God was going to make it rain after the 6th hour?  We don't know God's timing, we just need to keep asking.  Is there anything you want so badly you would be willing to draw a circle in the sand around that prayer?  It doesn't have to be standing in a circle in the sand until you get it, but maybe you could pray for 5 minutes every single day about that one thing until you get an answer.  Maybe you could sit in a church every day for a few minutes until it is answered.  Maybe you could commit to going to daily mass until it is answered.  It doesn't matter what you commit to as much as it matters that you are willing to commit to something.  I think you will see more answers to prayers if you do this because you will be more focused on your prayers.  You will be searching for that answer because you are expecting it to come.  It is as if you know it will be answered and so you are waiting expectantly.  I wonder if that is the problem.  I wonder if we are praying expectantly or not.  Do you honestly expect God to answer your prayers?  Are you on the lookout for the answers?  Maybe that is why Honi's prayer we answered so quickly.  Actually, I have no idea how long he was standing in that circle, but I know it wasn't months.  He knew God would answer His prayer and He was willing to stand there in a circle, looking foolish, until God did.  He put his pride aside and was willing to look foolish to wait on God.  When we do this, when we step out in faith and put all of our trust in God, He never lets us down.  There was no way God was going to not show up for Honi.  Honi was honoring God by showing everyone in that town that God is the one to turn to when we need something.  When you step out in faith, trusting God, He will always show up.  He will not leave you hanging.   Pray big, bold prayers, and watch how the Lord shows up for you.  Pray earnestly and watch the amazing results.  I just looked up in The Circle Maker Book, to see how long Honi prayed for and it said as his prayers went up the rain came down.  So I guess his prayer was anwered pretty quickly. Batterson said Honi's prayer was resolute yet humble, confident yet meek, expectant yet unassuming.  I think we can all learn a lot from that statement.  How can we follow Honi's example of how to pray?Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today.  Lord, we want to pray earnestly, show us how.  We want to step out in faith and demonstrate your awesomeness to all those around us, give us the holy boldness we need.  Give us the persistence and the fortitude we need to continue to pray those prayers that don't seem to be answered.  Don't let us give up Lord, help us keep asking.  Show us, put on our hearts what it is you want us to do. If you want us to commit to doing something while we wait, put that on our hearts, let us know, and then give us the strength to do it.  We love you, Lord, you are truly amazing.  We thank you for always showing up.  We ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus.  I wanted to remind everyone that my retreat in October is open for registration.  It is going to be a great weekend full of love.  The Lord has been talking to me a lot about what that weekend should look like and I know it will be amazing.  If you feel like you would like to feel a little more love from God these days, this retreat is for you. Be Honest: Is Your Prayer Life Everything You Want it to Be?Prayer is difficult for many of us. We're busy, stressed, and often find ourselves wondering if God is even out there. We're screaming into the void, and all we hear are the echoes of our own voices and the noises of the culture around us. Or, we're desperately whispering our deepest needs, but we have no idea how to really connect with God, or whether he's even listening at all. But what if it doesn't have to be this way? What if we really can learn to have real connection and conversation with a God who wants to know and be known by us?That's what my friend Addison Bevere is here to talk about today. Addison's new book is Words with God: Trading Boring, Empty Prayer for Real Connection. It's available today, everywhere books are sold. Click the button below for more information about Addison, and his wonderful new book that's already locked in as one of my top books of 2023 (and all-time). I can't recommend this book highly enough, and I'm so excited to bring you this wonderful conversation today with my friend, Addison Bevere. Here's the description of Words with God from Amazon.com, including an endorsement from another one of my favorite writes, Mark Batterson (we use his book, All In, every year for our podcast series called All-In August). For most of us, prayer is a struggle. Do our prayers even matter? What, if anything, happens when we pray? Are we having words with God or just words with ourselves? We know we should pray. It would be good for us--help us be more grounded, more connected to God. But in our hurried lives, slowing down to pray can feel like a cosmic waste of time. In this thoughtful book, bestselling author Addison Bevere takes you into and through the tension of prayer--the struggles, the doubts, the answers--to the place where God makes himself real to you. He tackles questions such as:· What do we do with unanswered prayers and how do we move through them?· Why does God invite us to ask through prayer if he is aware of every need?· Is there a right way to pray? If so, what is it?· How do we learn to hear the Voice of God?Tired of boring, empty, transactional prayer? This is the book for you."Addison's book takes us through our desires for prayer, our disappointments in prayer, and the profound deeper plan of God for our prayers. This is the book you'll return to again and again."--Mark Batterson, New York Times bestselling author of The Circle Maker, lead pastor of National Community Church in Washington, D.C.Hey, my new book is releasing July 25. Addison is one of my early readers/endorsers. Here's what he had to say about Hope is the First Dose. “I should warn you that this book comes with deep breaths and the occasional tears. With beautiful prose and intimate insights, these pages take you where you need to go before life forces you to go there. And if you're already ‘there,' face to face with what Dr. Warren calls The Massive Thing, I have good news for you: you've found your book.” Addison BevereSelf-Brain Surgery with Dr. Lee Warren is a reader-supported publication. Please, Sorry, Thanks: These three magic words are the keys to healthy relationships and successful careers. Nothing opens doors like a genuine "please." Nothing resolves conflict like a sincere apology. Nothing incurs favor like heartfelt gratitude. Mike Linch welcomes back Mark Batterson, Pastor of National Community Church in Washington, D.C., and author of Please, Sorry, Thanks: The Three Words that Change Everything. Mark shares how each of these words are essentially a different posture of the heart, and he explains that our country is in dire need of a “revival of politeness.”In addition to serving as lead pastor of National Community Church in Washington, DC, one church with multiple locations, Mark serves as lead visionary for The Dream Collective, which equips and supports dreamers who long for revival in the church, reformation in the kingdom, and renaissance in culture.Mark holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Regent University and is the author of 23 books including the New York Times bestselling The Circle Maker as well as In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, Wild Goose Chase, Double Blessing, Whisper, and, more recently, Win the Day and Do it for a Day. Mark is married to Lora and they live on Capitol Hill. They have three children: Parker, Summer (married to Austin), and Josiah.

Dr. James Dobson's Family Talk

Prayer is not only our way of communicating with God, but an instrument we can use to bring change in our families and communities. On today's edition of Family Talk, Pastor Mark Batterson, author of The Circle Maker, invites listeners to see prayer in a new way. He finds that prayer is the difference between the best we can do, and the best God can do. Most importantly, prayer is not about outlining our agenda to the Lord—it's about getting into His presence and letting Him outline His agenda to us.
