Discover the power of the Go-Getter Jesus Girl. Dive into her book, embrace faith, and unleash your potential. Get motivated and pursue your dreams with unwavering determination.   From Project Management to Empowering Christian Communicators In this insightful interview, we have the pleasure of chatting with Christa Hutchins, a project manager in the engineering and construction industry who is also passionate about helping Christian communicators, speakers, writers, and podcasters bring their big ideas to life. Christa shares her journey, the importance of having a plan, and the inspiration behind her book, "Moving Forward: Inspiration for the Go-Getter Jesus Girl." Join us as we delve into Christa's story and discover practical strategies for success.   Finding Purpose in a New Season As Christa faced the transition into her empty nest years, she sought to discover her new purpose. Despite her background in a male-dominated field, she felt led to volunteer as a small group leader for Proverbs 31 Ministries' online Bible studies. This unexpected opportunity introduced her to authors, writers, and dreamers who struggled with implementing their ideas effectively. Recognizing the value of her project management skills, Christa realized she could help these individuals find clarity and take actionable steps toward their goals.   The Power of Isaiah 43:19:  Embracing her newfound calling, Christa founded "Do a New Thing" based on Isaiah 43:19, which says, "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?" This verse resonated with her personal and professional journey. As she encountered a career wasteland and toxic work environment, Christa found solace in the promise that God was doing something new. With her business, she now helps other women navigate their own wildernesses of confusion, doubt, and imposter syndrome.   The Importance of Having a Plan Christa emphasizes the significance of having a plan in order to maintain balance and productivity. Without a plan, she noticed a tendency to either overwork or underwork. Through weekly planning sessions, she ensures she knows what needs to be done and can work efficiently without feeling overwhelmed. This habit provides structure, motivation, and the ability to take deliberate steps toward fulfilling her goals.   Inspiration for the Go-Getter Jesus Girl Christa's desire to bridge the gap between scripture and practical application led her to write her book, "Moving Forward: Inspiration for the Go-Getter Jesus Girl." Drawing from her workshops and group teachings, the book offers 28 short, inspirational chapters categorized into four sections: dream a dream, find your people, make a plan, and do the thing. By exploring familiar stories and figures from the Bible, Christa encourages readers to uncover strategic lessons and apply them to their daily lives, businesses, and ministries.   Empowerment and Inspiration for Christian Communicators Christa Hutchins exemplifies the power of embracing new seasons and using one's skills to serve others. She empowers Christian communicators to transform their big ideas into successful ministries and businesses through her project management expertise and passion for the Bible. By sharing her story and writing her book, Christa inspires readers to find practical applications of scripture in their personal, professional, and ministry lives. Her dedication to making a difference is a shining example for all aspiring leaders to follow.     Connect with Christa Hutchins Purchase the book: Moving Forward: Inspiration for the Go-Getter Jesus Girl  Website: doanewthing.com Facebook: Do A New Thing Instagram: Do A New Thing Connect with Jacklin:  Effective Ministry Solutions Facebook Effective Ministry Solutions Instagram Preparing the Church for the Harvest Blog Schedule a Call   Enter to win the Book Bundle Giveaway:  Click here and enter the code word NEW THING   This episode was originally published on effectiveministrysolutions.com/episode029

Today we're talking about the spiritual discipline of paying attention and awakening to God's love for you. Through this series on spiritual health, I want us – women of God and sisters in Christ – to be healthy and to shed who we are not and the false narratives that don't serve us well so we can live and move and have our being in freedom and grace.  I pray that we will lean – not into the discipline, for the discipline isn't the point –but that we would lean into the God who is actively shaping us and that we will learn to love who we are becoming.  In this episode, Anjuli shares: How to pay attention is different seasons How to let people in when you're terrified And what it looks like for Jesus to be with you Key Quotes “The way in which I was doing the spiritual disciplines was totally killing me inside.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “The thought of stopping and being alone in a cabin for three weeks terrified me. And what terrified me the most was being with myself.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “When we stay with ourselves, and we stay with God staying with us, that is the living water we are thirsty for.”- Author Anjuli Paschall “When we stop and open our hearts, it's messy.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “The invitation the Lord is giving you is to stay because that's where the Lord is. He is with you.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “The real hope with any discipline is to not get good at the discipline but to become wise and well in the thing you want to grow in.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “What do you see? When you look in the mirror and look at yourself, what's there?” - Author Anjuli Paschall “Paying attention is actually receiving the life you've been given.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “Paying attention looks like being really honest with myself and being really honest with others.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “Trust the journey Jesus has you on.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “The capacity for you to be vulnerable is dependent on the other person's capacity and your experience of their reliability.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “Now I care very little about someone perceiving me as a good mom. I care about being the mom my kids need.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “Parenting is a tender balance between love and freedom.” - Author Anjuli Paschall As Mentioned in the Podcast The FCC requires that I tell you that I'm an Amazon Affiliate, which means I earn a bit of commission on each sale. Have you ever felt like God was calling you to make a shift or pivot in your calling? Has He called you to move from what you've been doing for a long time to something new? I would suspect that if you are a believer, God has made a shift in your calling at various times in your life. Maybe that shift was easy to do. There are natural times when our calling will shift or take on a new focus, like when we become parents and then again when we become empty nesters.  However, there are other times when God calls us to do something new when it may be difficult to navigate that shift. In episode 159, I invited my friend Christa Hutchins back to the podcast. She was a guest in episode 102 last fall. She is going to share her story about a new shift God is making in her life that she is trying to navigate. I know you'll be blessed by hearing how she came to know it was time to make a shift and how it is playing out in her life.   In this episode, we cover: The shift in Christa's calling from God How we can use the skills God has given us in our jobs to help others in a different way How Christa knew it was time to pivot in helping women in their online businesses Why we need to honor the season we're in A sacrifice Christa had to make to follow God's calling Blessings Christa has received from following God's calling   Christa Hutchins helps Christian women with a dream and a job honor all the work God has given them to do through strategic and project planning, and accountability, so they can turn their big ideas into a thriving ministry or business. "How do you lead well when Covid has changed the landscape of how to lead people now that they are mostly working from home?" It has been fascinating to see how leaders and teams have risen to the challenge of being forced to do something so differently with the shift to suddenly working remotely. Listen into today's episode with Christa Hutchins on how expectations for the way we lead have forever changed.  Our past leadership paradigm involved managing expectations by trading time for money. You track hours or set the number of hours someone needs to be working and manage to that expectation. In our remote world, the paradigm must shift to clarifying expectations based on the desired outcomes or the results you want to see rather than the time it takes to do it. You can ease up the tension of this transition by having conversations to clarify outcomes. In a remote team, we've moved from trading time for money to trading money for outcomes. Our teams are experiencing new kinds of stress at home and work. The more you can remove the stress of “time” and point to “outcomes” instead – the more motivation and engagement you will experience with your people.  Clear expectations can create security in an uncertain world. QUICK TIPS TO LEAD REMOTELY: Schedule intentional “stopping points” to replace the natural check-in's that happen in the rhythm of a day or week when you are in the same building Be bold and create your version of a “water cooler” conversation remotely Pay special attention to integrate new team members into the virtual social rhythms that occur naturally and can be easily missed in a virtual workplace Offer reassurances when people are in transition either moving remote or moving back into the office Set a block of time that becomes “core” meetings and the other time offers flexibility to get work done or address family issues and then finish tasks later in the evening Talk about changes in work style expectations: video meeting etiquette, meeting structures, team interactions, personal connections, work check ins Thank  you for joining us for ideas to help you get more savvy in leading in this rapidly changing world where remote teams will shape our leadership experience. Growing a community is hard work, and it doesn't happen overnight. So is it really worth it? And if so, what can you do to get started? I'm diving into these issues in today's conversation. Recently I spent time at the Clarity to Courage Conference. It was an incredible conference and I loved so much about it. One of the very special parts about the conference is that I was able to be there with 10 of the women in my upLIFT Mentormind. #88: What to do when you fear naming what you want [Fear Series]

Grace In Real Life podcast

I have a few dreams sprouting in my heart. You have dreams too. Dreams like starting a non-profit, adding a little girl to your family, taking people on high-adventure tours to enjoy God's creation, going to work at a job that fills your heart and uses your gifts, and owning your own bed and breakfast-- just to name a few. All of us have dreams. All of us hold hopes in our hearts. I'm talking about the in-your-gut, I-can't-escape-this-desire kinda hopes. But it seems like for every dream, desire or goal we have, we experience the fear of naming it.  In this episode, we'll talk through: Why you fear naming what you most want What God says about your dreams and desires And spiritual practices to lead you back to the heart of Christ. It's important to remember that our giftings, what we most deeply want, who we most fully are, are all training for what's to come; it's all a dress rehearsal for heaven. Naming your dreams today gives you practice for eternity.  Trusting God with your dreams builds your faith. Building community as you launch your dreams gives you a taste of heaven. Key Quotes One of the main reasons we are afraid to name what we want is because we have an enemy who -- while not omniscient or omnipresent -- is not stupid, but crafty, and he aims his lying arrows at our God-dreams, so we're too afraid to pursue them.  Trying to stuff down your dreams leads to a soul shriveling on the vine. It just doesn't work, and it leaves us frustrated, tired, envious of those chasing their dreams, and restless. What you want is what you want because God planted it there. Your desires are a part of God's design. The Bible is a story of desire. Naming what we most want means we lean into our identities as daughters of the Creator, who dreams and does and delights. Our Heavenly Father doesn't give us a passion or dream to tease us or ignore us. Today we're discussing Using Kickstarter to Fund Your Project on Instagram™. We're joined by my good friend, colleague, and member of my own Instagram Insider community, Christa Hutchins. Congratulations on your new podcast! It’s called “Just One Simple Thing” and it’s so great. It has short succinct gems of wisdom and practical tips! Every week, there’s an action step. So far, my favorite is episode 5 - “What type of stuck are you?” Let's get into it!  Click below for show notes https://ruthiegray.mom/using-kickstarter-to-fund-your-project/   Christa's website at Do A New Thing  https://doanewthing.com/ Christa's Podcast: Just One Simple Thing  https://doanewthing.com/ Ruthie: Christa, your tag line is, “Moving your God-dream from vision to action together.” How are you using Instagram to drive traffic to this effort?        Using Kickstarter to Fund Your Project on Instagram Christa: Well, I think one of the key words in that tagline is “together.” You know, I am big, big, big on relationships and on collaborations and bringing people together.   So, I hope that through my Instagram work that people feel like they're less alone because I'm in there with them. I'm also helping them connect with other people who are in there with them. So I drive them to places like the podcast or my mastermind and my one-on-one coaching so they feel less alone and they feel comfortable joining those places because they've gotten to know me through Instagram.    R: Yes, you are one of the first people that ever reached out to me for collaboration. You've taught me a lot about collaboration and community and that we are in this together.         How Using Kickstarter can Bolster Your Goals   R: As you know, in this series we’re discussing ways to monetize using Instagram, and one of the ways you did this was by using Kickstarter to fund your Line-a-day journal. Obviously, I got on board because I thought it was a fabulous idea and I use my journal every single morning. Tell us the results of using Kickstarter and how you exceeded your goals!   C: Yeah. So Kickstarter is a platform where you can offer new products, new product ideas, things that you're exploring, and offer people an opportunity to join in with you by crowdsourcing to fund your idea. I knew I had this idea for the line a day journal. I had done a short four month trial version and I was ready to launch the full year version for 2021.   On Kickstarter, I set up a campaign and you can run them for a limited time. The suggested time is two weeks. So that's what I did. Then you pick a value that is your target goal for your Kickstarter--how much money you want to raise to be able to produce your thing.   People who join in on your Kickstarter can get different levels of bonuses and extras to go along with whatever it is you're funding. So, um, if you reach your funding level, then Kickstarter collects all that money and gives you most of it and they can keep a little bit for themselves which is normal.   Then you produce the thing, but if you don't make your goal, then nobody pays anything. You don't get funds and it's all gone. I set my goal at $1,500 in two weeks. That was what I was going to try to do. I promoted it on my Instagram, my newsletter, and my Facebook.   A Real Audience Response   I was shocked at the response. Partly, I think it was because, yes, it's a good idea. It was a very unique idea. There's nothing like a one year line a day journal on the market. All the line a day journals are for five years and this one is for one year that cycles through every month.   In the journal, you can see every month what you wrote. The date, the month before. So it was a unique idea and my community, my Instagram community and the rest of my “Do a New Thing” community wanted to support me and Kickstarter is a fun way for people to support you and to promote and help you to be ...

3 Ways to Develop Confidence & Combat Imposter Syndrome in Your Business [Ep. 35]

Have you ever questioned yourself in your business, wondered if you should do what you're doing, or felt like clients or customers won't want what you have to offer?   Why am I talking about confidence and imposter syndrome? I believe they are closely related, and they are something that many of the women I talk with experience.   A lack of confidence can look like questioning what you're doing, wondering if you're on the right track, feeling like clients or customers wouldn't want what you have to offer, or struggling to share about your offer or your business with others.   With imposter syndrome, you might second guess whether you are qualified to do something, underestimate your abilities, and assume that others could do it better than you. Often it includes feeling like you're going to be "found out" -- like someone is going to figure out that you actually don't know what you're talking about.   Can you relate to any of this? I absolutely can! In this episode, I'm sharing 3 ways you can become more confident in your business and combat imposter syndrome. #1: Know Biblical Truth When we look at confidence from a Biblical perspective we can see this: Confidence is not about you, it's about the God who lives in you.    You see if you look at the definition of confidence you find that it has a lot to do with trust. And Scripture shows us that our trust should not be in ourselves and our own abilities but in God and His ability to work in us and through us and to provide what we need. I want to share a couple of scriptures that demonstrate this:   Psalm 33:20-22 - “Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.”   2 Cor. 3:4-6 - "Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”   We can see that confidence is not based on our own abilities, but on God who gives us everything we need. God has given us abilities. He has given us gifts.    For more info and encouragement on this topic, check out episode 6 and episode 67 of my Christian Woman Leadership Podcast.   And if developing confidence is something you struggle with, then you may want to check out my  Confident Leader Catalyst. In that course, you will develop confidence based on God's truth, gain clarity about your purpose, and gain courage to step into your calling. #2: Understand the Truth About You Once you establish that your confidence comes from God, it's important to also look at the truth about yourself. This is not about being prideful, it's about being honest.   Many times I have second-guessed my own products and services, my rates, what I'm doing and whether I have a "right" to be offering what I am.   One time I was struggling with this and I had a conversation with a mindset coach. She asked me several questions that helped me to gain an accurate perspective of what was going on. Over the years, I've had other mentors and biz besties who have helped me to do the same.    So I want to do the same today with you... I want to help you gain an accurate perspective of your qualifications for what you are doing. Here's how:   List any and all experiences you have in the past that have prepared you for what you are doing today. Identify what you learned or took away from those experiences. List out anything you've invested in for your own personal or business development (courses, mentors, coaches, books). Note what you invested and reflect on what you learned or took away from each one. List out any practical skills you might have, and make special note those that are rare or unique. List out your natural and spiritual gifts. Reflect on how these help you in your business.  Think about the work you are doing now. When have you gotten results for yourself or others? List out any and all wins you've had in your own business or with clients or customers (free or paid).   After you've done this I hope you'll see that there's no need to be questioning your ability to do what you are doing!   But we still do it. So I find it really helpful to have a visible list of my own experiences and qualifications even just for my own reference so that i can confidently share what I'm doing with others.   Now maybe you are staying, "But Esther, I am offering something brand new! I have never done this before and I don't know if it actually makes sense for me to charge for it."   I will say this: I do think if you're putting yourself out there as a coach, consultant or expert that you should have some level of knowledge about that thing. But there is a first time for everything! Which brings us to #3. #3: Take Action When I first got started, someone reached out to me about building a website. I had built one for myself but never for someone else. I had no idea if I really had what it took to do the process for someone else.   I definitely underpriced, but I did the project and the client was happy with the results. So the next time, I bumped up the price and built a site for another person.    Over time, even though this was not a main service of mine, I got over questioning whether I was actually able to do a good job b/c I had taken action and done it.   More recently, when I felt God asking me to shift into doing more coaching and strategy for Christian women business owners, I had a massive mindset battle. I felt like I wasn't sure if I could actually do it. I felt like people might think I was being prideful or something crazy like this if I said I could help them grow their business online.   One day I was chatting with a friend through Voxer and she was having a business challenge. I offered her some encouragement and she came back to me and said, "You just coached me. You've been doing this for years and you just haven't been calling it that."   Now that we're several months into the year, and I've been offering this kind of support with clients and students, I can tell you that it feels amazing and God has affirmed that I'm on the right track! Through the feedback and responses I've had from clients, I know that what I'm offering is something that is needed.   And the same goes for you. What you have to offer is needed! And if you hold back because you are afraid of whether you have all the right qualifications you might never move forward! And others might be missing out on what you are offering.   I get it, it's tough to put yourself out there. It's tough to get visible and tell people you can help them withXYZ. But there are people who need your gifts, your experience, your insights! So, I challenge you to take action even if it's not perfect! As you do, the imposter syndrome stops having power over you.   And if you are really unsure about where you are at and you need an outside perspective, you can book a strategy session with me. We can chat about it and I can provide an objective viewpoint. Faith Focus: Our faith focus today is Matthew 5:16 - "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."   One of my business values is excellence because I want to serve my clients and students well so that it will reflect the beauty of who God is and bring Him glory.    Let's serve our clients with excellence and let's shine our light to those around us. As they see this light, they may ask us questions. They may be inspired to get to know more about God because of how we are living our lives and running our business. Or, if they already know God, they will hopefully be encouraged to glorify Him by seeing what we are up to.   This week as you do your work, as you serve your family, or as you interact with your community, remember that you have the opportunity to be a light to those around you. Shine a Light Segment: Today I want to shine a light on Christa Hutchins. Christa is a project manager and accountability coach serving Christian creatives and leaders. She is passionate about leading women to draw their strategic influences straight from scripture and apply it to their everyday tasks and decisions. She works one-on-one and through her Move Forward Mastermind.   She's also a friend, Podcast in a Weekend student, and client.   I want to shine a light on her today because she consistently builds up and encourages women. She's a master at collaborating and connecting people! She also recently launched her new podcast, Just One Simple Thing while working a full time job and continuing to serve her clients. She used Podcast in a Weekend to do so and she said "I never would have made it through a long complicated podcasting course."   I love what Christa is doing so be sure to head over to the Just One Simple Thing podcast and check her out! Slowing down your pace sounds amazing, but how do you do that in real life? How can you practice open-handedness in the dailiness? How can you build rest into a busy season?  In the fourth episode of the Delete + Reset series, author Jennifer Dukes Lee tackles a topic that’s an ongoing struggle for try-hard girls: how to live a slower life when you believe your worth is based on all you do. Jennifer reminds you that good things take time to grow, that if you’re going to live like Jesus, you need to walk at a slower pace, and she defines what it means to have an unhurried heart. You’ll learn how to grow slow in a world that pushes you to keep up, how to replace harmful mindsets with God’s truth, and what to do when you’re tired of a busy life but are terrified of the idea of letting go of All The Things.  Key Quotes “There’s something worse than falling behind and that is not really appreciating and embracing the here-and-now the Lord has given us.” - Jennifer Dukes Lee “It takes time to grow good things.” - Jennifer Dukes Lee “An unexpected life is not the same thing as a bad life.” - Jennifer Dukes Lee “God doesn’t delight in our output as much as He just delights in our ordinary selves.” - Jennifer Dukes Lee “All those little things build a life.” - Jennifer Dukes Lee “We ourselves are fields. God is planting seeds in us, and He is growing things in us.” - Jennifer Dukes Lee “If I’m going to live like Jesus and be like Jesus, I need to slow down and walk with Jesus.” - Jennifer Dukes Lee  Mentioned in the Podcast Mentioned in the Podcast The FCC requires that I tell you that I'm an Amazon Affiliate, which means I earn a bit of commission on each sale. C: I was struggling with everything because I just didn't get it. I didn't understand Instagram. And you know, of course I was comfortable over on Facebook. I knew pretty much what to do there. But I also work a full-time job. So for me, time is really important and I have to prioritize where I spend my time. And so Instagram was way low on the priority. If you go way back to the beginning of my feed, you'll see. It's just kind of very hit and miss for certain tried several things and just didn't ever really stick, but then I guess it's been almost two years ago that I really realized that my audience, that I thought was on Facebook, that they were moving to Instagram. And so I wanted to move with them. So I started to try to get more intentional about Instagram, but I still didn't understand it. And I definitely didn't understand stories. I didn't see the point. The point. I thought it was silly. I didn't get it. And so I started just trying to get my feed going and get it be consistent in posting. That was the first hurdle was just to be consistent consistently showing up. And that's what I tell people all the time.     The pivot point with Instagram stories Then I took your Instagram stories, challenge, which I recommend to all of my clients, whenever any of my clients talk about starting them, go on Instagram. The power of Instagram for building a brand, I believe is in stories. So that was a huge help for me using, using the challenge to learn how to do stories and then. I just started. I use stories for a lot of different types of content.

What is the best way to grow your business and audience online? You might be surprised with my answer. In this episode, I'm sharing with you the key to growing your business online. This one thing helped me meet and exceed my revenue goals when I first started my service-based business. And it's something that many people overlook in the online space, especially when trying to achieve “passive income”. So, you may be wondering: what is it?? The best way to grow your business online is through people & relationships! Real, authentic relationships are the key to growing your business online. Real relationships have the power to do things that marketing strategies, systems, and tools cannot do. Relationships and people are one of the points of the Shine Online Framework that I discussed in Episode 2, and today I want to go a little deeper into how to actually build these relationships. For the full show notes for this episode, go to christianwomanbusiness.com/10   Key Points Discussed: Are online relationships real? Who do you need to build relationships with?  Your ideal audience / clients / customers Colleagues / potential collaborators Your mentors / people who you follow and admire Principles for developing real relationships online Be yourself Be helpful Set aside ulterior motives Find common ground  Stay humble Engage Ask Free workshop from Christa Hutchins   Building relationships online is truly a key factor in growing your business and your audience. Are you struggling to accomplish goals? When you aren't able to achieve an objective, you likely feel discouraged and frustrated. You may even begin feeling like a failure. But, what if you weren't the problem. What if it's how you're trying to reach these goals that is the issue. Maybe it's the system you're using that needs to change. You likely know about SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-based) goals. SMART goals are often thought of as the guide for goal-setting behaviors. These goals often leave us feeling dumb when we can't follow through. Christa Hutchins, author and speaker, advocates using PEACE (Purposeful, Essential, Adjustable, Current, and Enjoyable) goals instead. In this interview, I sit down with Christa and discuss PEACE goals, how to create habits to foster PEACE goals, and what she sees as common roadblocks for implementing new practices. 41: Behind-the-Scenes Leadership, Volunteering, & Moving Forward Together with Christa Hutchins

How do you lead well from behind-the-scenes? Are there specific strategies that help you engage and care for your volunteers? And how can the collaboration of Christian women change the world? In this episode, I talk with Christa Hutchins, wife, empty-nester, founder of Do A New Thing, and  volunteer for Proverbs 31 Ministries as a coordinator for online Bible studies. Christa shares her leadership journey, which includes leading from behind-the-scenes, her best practices for working with volunteers, and the importance of women supporting each other.  Whether you lead a volunteer team or run your own business, there are multiple takeaways from this conversation. Christa’s Leadership Journey: Christa grew up as the classic “bossy older sister” and held leadership positions in high school. In college, the leader of her student ministry asked Christa to lead a mission trip to Chicago, which involved planning, training, and coordinating logistics. This was the first time someone had called out leadership qualities in her.  However, because she was planning a wedding, Christa was unable to go.  In her career as a chemical engineer, Christa led large teams at work. To her, leadership meant authority, but when she volunteered at church, she began to see the cracks in that philosophy. When she became an empty-nester, Christa asked God where He wanted her. He led her to volunteer at Proverbs 31 Ministries hosting an online Bible study. Volunteering there was a change of pace from her male-dominated work environment, and it made Christa nervous. As she volunteered at Proverbs 31, she began to see a different type of leadership: servant leadership. She began to learn how to put people before projects, how to serve God by serving others, and how to still be herself. With her business, Christa helps bloggers and creative women set up structures and processes to achieve their goals. Through Do A New Thing, she takes her project management skills and helps creative women with their big ideas. There are all different types of leadership, and for Christa, the most foundational is self-leadership.  Christa’s Mentors From Melissa Taylor, the director of online Bible studies at Proverbs 31 Ministries, Christa has learned to become a student of leadership. She’s also learned how to give grace, to put people before projects, and not to give up when there’s conflict.  How Christa Embraced her Wiring as a Leader: Christa never related to personality assessments like the Meyers-Briggs or DISC Profile because she never liked the person they described her to be. However, she loves the Strengths Finder system because she’s learned the benefits of her strengths and feels more confident in them.  She does get frustrated when she knows that she needs to put people before project, but just can’t do it. Her strength of responsibility doesn’t mean that she’s responsible for everything, that she can wait to be asked to help. Christa has learned to embrace her wiring because she understand how her wiring fits with other people and how each person plays in a role to work together well. As she embraces all parts of her personality, she’s learning how to embrace other people’s personalities as well. How Christa figured out her gifts One of Christa’s gifts is taking messy things and bringing structure to them. She figured out this was a gift when she saw the peace it brought to others. When she structured, planned, and organized for herself, she feels compulsive. When she uses this gift for others, it brings peace to her heart and to the lives of others.  Christa shares that it’s hard to recognize our own gifts because they seem so normal to us. Not until you use your gift and see how God uses it to help others, do you understand your giftings. Christa’s Advice for Younger Leaders: Don’t expect perfection from yourself. It only limits your leadership. Instead, recognize, own, and make mistakes! Study leadership. Christians like Craig Groeschel and John Maxwell are excellent resources.     Christa’s Message to the World Leadership can feel very lonely. Christa strives to come alongside people and help them connect. Leaders and creatives can hit an emotional or skills wall. Because you don’t want people to think you’re weak or incapable, you often don’t connect with those who could help you. Christa’s Advice for Working with Volunteers Christa is both a volunteer and works with large volunteer teams. Here are her best practices in working with volunteers: It’s easy to promote the loudest, most bossy person. However, what’s most important is whether this potential volunteer is passionate about and understands what you’re doing for God. The #1 criteria to look for in a volunteer is to look for someone coming alongside you to achieve the same mission you want to achieve, not coming alongside you to do a task. Establish expectations for volunteers so everyone has a clear understanding of the role. Look for people who aren’t wired like you and can fill in your gaps. Christa’s Habits for Effectiveness Christa uses a paper planner to record what’s been done and to make plans. She uses the calendar on her phone for appointments. She has 4 to 5 to-do lists, one for each category, i.e. volunteer to-do list, business to-do list, etc. She looks at her to-do lists and determines the top three activities she’ll get done, and puts those on a sticky note stuck on the corner of her laptop. Christa wants to “pre-decide” what she’ll do in her time so she doesn’t end up scrolling Facebook.  Christa’s book recommendation: Developing the Leader within You by John Maxwell* In a team environment, a great idea is for each person to read a chapter and then give a 5-minute report back to the group.   Key quotes from the episode: “God taught me early on that as the leader, I don’t have to be the do-er.”  “It all starts with self-leadership.” “God is raising up women to work together.” “You don’t have to do this alone.” “Nobody expects you to be perfect and if they do, you’re probably in the wrong place.” “Making mistakes means that you are growing.” “You have to study to be a leader.” “Women can bond together and be a formidable force for Him.” Connect with Christa Hutchins  Website Instagram Facebook Christa is giving away a free month of accountability coaching PLUS two free printables, “Top 10 Productivity Tips for Go-Getter Jesus Girls” and “The First 10 Things Your New Volunteer Needs to Know.”  To enter to win the free coaching and to get the freebies, go here. The Best Yes Book (16:00) Carrie elaborates on a book that helped her significantly in shaping what she says yes and no to. This book is called “The Best Yes” by Lisa Terkeurst. Click here for the book. As You Are (18:30) You don’t have to be an expert to do something well that you feel God is calling you to. Quit waiting, take the step, then let God show you what next steps to take. Working Through Dynamics in Life (20:30) Through a difficult circumstance along with a job transition, God started to stir in Christa’s heart for something new. Bringing together her natural skills, coaching aspects, and engineering past experiences, Christa saw God pulling them all together into a greater passion for women and ministry.   God Uses All of You (24:00) God is so much bigger than any of our mistakes or failures. He takes the broken pieces of our lives and makes something beautiful, bringing it all together. Connect with Carrie Robaina by clicking here. Connect with Christa by clicking here.
