This week on my podcast, I have one of my “Aunties” Tupou Pau'u. I have known her for a long time and I am so proud of her health journey. She was in another country and was having terrible pain. She resorted to taking many Advil just to be able to function. When she got back she could barely walk because her body could not flush all of the medication that she had been taking. She was literally in bed for weeks. Our team started working on her and got her out of pain. She was finally able to get out of bed! We were able to help her and positively change her life and her family's life. She now has brought in many family members that are having amazing recoveries like Sione.

If you are at all concerned about your meat, where it comes from, it’s nutrient profile, or how it got to your plate, I really think you’re going to be blown away by Grass Roots Farmers’ Cooperative. Get this—Basically, you can order meat directly from small scale family farms in the US that put a lot of attention into their production. Their animals are 100% pasture-raised, they live happy lives, completely outdoors, and every farm practices regenerative agriculture, which means they’re reducing carbon emissions, and replenishing the nutrients in the soil rather than depleting them. It’s truly incredible what they’re doing—they’re actually reversing a lot of the damage we’ve done to the environment with animals and with farming. Grass Roots Coop is offering our listeners $40 OFF your first box, plus free shipping. You’ll find it at the link grassrootscoop.com/wellfed. BioOptimizers This podcast is sponsored by BiOptimizers. Please refer back to episode #258 all about digestion for some more insight on how to resolve common digestive issues. If you’ve never tried enzymes before, or have and it didn’t work, I encourage you to give MassZymes a go. It is a full-spectrum enzyme formula with 5 different kinds of protease, which is the enzyme that is the catalyst for the breakout of protein. And undigested proteins can cause a lot of gut dysfunction. And then their Probiotic, P3-OM, is a proteolytic probiotic, which means it digests protein. It’s antiviral, it actually eliminates pathogens and waste… and is maintainable in the human digestive system. Once in your body, the P3-OM super strain doubles every 20 minutes, and helps get rid of the bad guys—before it is safely eliminated. Give both MassZymes and P3-OM a go. So many individuals suffer from digestive issues—because any protein your body doesn’t break down creates digestive distress, gas, bloating and constipation. The combination of P3-OM and MassZymes ensures that all the protein you consume breaks down into absorbable amino acids Go to bioptimizers.com/wellfed10 And use coupon code WELLFED10 to get 10% off all products.
We don’t give topical pain relievers enough credit. They are readily available over the counter but are they all created equal? And if not, what makes them different. According to investigative journalist, Katherine Eban, there is a lot of fraud going on with generic medications -- putting patient safety at risk.Today, 90 percent of our pharmaceutical market is comprised of generics, the majority of which are manufactured overseas. The thought is that these drugs are as effective as their brand-name counterparts, just less expensive. Is that really true?According to investigative journalist, Katherine Eban, there is a lot of fraud going on with these generic medications. Her book, Bottle of Lies: The Inside Story of the Generic Drug Boom, exposes the deceit behind generic drug manufacturing. Drawing on exclusive accounts from whistleblowers and regulators, as well as thousands of pages of confidential FDA documents, Eban reveals an industry where fraud is rampant, companies routinely falsify data, and executives circumvent almost every principle of safe manufacturing to minimize cost and maximize profit, confident in their ability to fool inspectors. Meanwhile, patients unwittingly consume medicine with unpredictable and dangerous effects.Listen as Eban joins Dr. Roizen to explain how this could happen -- and what can be done to change the process and ultimately ensure the health and safety of those who consume generics.BonusSurprising Mental Side Effects of Pain Relievers

For centuries opiates have brought relief to people in severe pain. But the relief came with consequences. Now researchers are engineering an alternative to morphine.
If you’re suffering from a fever or arthritis pain, anti-inflammatories can provide welcome relief. But this might not be entirely true for your heart. Researcher Aldrin Gomes of the University of California, Davis found that the chronic use of the anti-inflammatories known as NSAIDs can actually damage heart cells by producing chemically reactive molecules. "These NSAIDs were actually inducing something called reactive oxygen species, stuff that our body produces naturally but in small amounts." An excess of molecules can prevent the breakdown of harmful proteins that can build up and cause cardiac cell death. While not all NSAIDs may harm heart tissue, Gomes encourages seeking natural alternatives, like turmeric paste or tart cherries. "Part of what we’re doing is outreach– trying to get the word out to people that they shouldn’t be using NSAIDs as a regular treatment unless it’s really, absolutely necessary. NSAIDs also has very well-known gastrointestinal problems. So we have to be careful how much we take, when we take it."
