Early detection and fast action can save lives—tune in to learn how you can protect yourself and your loved ones.
Did you know that cardiovascular disease remains America's top killer, claiming hundreds of thousands of lives each year? Heart disease doesn't happen overnight—it develops gradually due to chronic inflammation of the arteries, not just high cholesterol. In fact, half of all heart attacks occur in people with normal cholesterol levels. Dr. Hotze explains how factors like a high-sugar diet, exposure to heavy metals, undiagnosed sleep apnea, and untreated thyroid or hormone imbalances can inflame the coronary arteries and lead to serious blockages over time. Fortunately, you can protect yourself by making targeted changes: get a CT heart scan to check for calcium buildup, adopt an anti-inflammatory eating plan, incorporate key nutrients like vitamin D3/K2, magnesium, coenzyme Q10, and avoid processed foods. Consistent exercise, quality sleep, and a balanced hormone regimen can also strengthen the heart and minimize risk. Take charge of your health before a heart attack strikes! Voyageur Pharmaceuticals CEO Brent Willis joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce the company has received a $600,000 grant from Alberta Innovates, a provincial Crown corporation and Alberta's largest research and innovation organization. The grant, awarded through the AICE-Market Access Program, is aimed at supporting the commercialization and market access of emerging health technologies in Alberta. Willis shared that the funds will be used for a pivotal study assessing the efficacy of Voyageur's Frances Creek barium sulfate compared to competing products. The study will focus on evaluating the performance of natural barite from Frances Creek against synthetic barium precipitate and oral iodine products. Currently, synthetic barium and diluted iodine contrast media dominate the fluoroscopy and Computed Tomography examination markets. Voyageur aims to highlight the superior imaging quality of its natural barium sulfate, attributed to its wider particle distribution. This research is expected to enhance the financial viability of the Frances Creek project and strengthen marketing strategies to drive sales growth. Willis also noted that Voyageur is in the testing and refinement phase for its five Health Canada licensed barium contrast products. The company is making steady progress toward its market launch, with a go-to-market plan that includes third-party barium sulfate imports and contract manufacturing partnerships. #proactiveinvestors #voyageurpharmaceuticalsltd #tsxv #vm #vyyrf #ctscan #xray #BrentWillis, #RainCage, #Nanoscience, #MRI, #CTScan, #MedicalBreakthrough, #Fullerenes, #Vanadium, #Gadolinium, #Bismuth, #Iodine, #Radiology, #MedicalInnovation, #DrugDevelopment, #Healthcare, #ScientificBreakthrough

Voyageur Pharmaceuticals CEO Brent Willis joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share details from a recently released Letter from the CEO, highlighting the company's significant achievements in 2024 and its ambitious plans for 2025. Willis reflected on 2024 as a transformative year for Voyageur, with the company entering into a Letter of Intent with a large multinational pharmaceutical company. This collaboration aims to improve production efficiencies and expand Voyageur's presence in the contrast media market. Both parties are actively working toward a definitive agreement, expected in early 2025. Voyageur introduced five new Health Canada-licensed barium contrast products aimed at raising the bar for medical imaging standards and enhancing diagnostic precision for healthcare professionals. This accomplishment followed 18 months of dedicated research and development. The company secured a $2.7 million sales distribution contract for its SmoothX 2% Barium Contrast product, solidifying its market presence in Latin America. Regulatory approvals are in progress, with sales slated to commence in the second half of 2025. Additionally, Voyageur is engaging with global distributors to broaden its reach. Voyageur is entering 2025 with a clear roadmap for advancing its product pipeline and market position, which includes extensive testing of its barium contrast formulations in human subjects is set to begin, with a focus on ensuring safety and efficacy in clinical settings. Voyageur aims to secure FDA approvals for its barium contrast products, demonstrating compliance with rigorous U.S. regulatory standards. A major initiative for 2025 involves advancing its iodine contrast drug development in the U.S. The goal is to produce the lowest-cost iodine contrast drugs in the market. Preliminary bench-scale testing has already commenced, and the company is laying the groundwork for full-scale production. With North America currently relying 100% on imported radiology drugs, Voyageur is focused on addressing critical mineral supply constraints. The company is working to establish the first secure, vertically integrated supply chain for radiology drugs in North America, aiming to fill critical gaps in the industry. As Willis explained, these efforts underscore Voyageur's commitment to innovation and its vision to redefine the radiology drug industry by providing secure, cost-effective, and high-quality solutions for healthcare professionals. With its robust pipeline and strategic partnerships, Voyageur is well-positioned for sustained growth and success in 2025 and beyond. #proactiveinvestors #voyageurpharmaceuticalsltd #tsxv #vm #vyyrf #ctscan #xray #BrentWillis, #RainCage, #Nanoscience, #MRI, #CTScan, #MedicalBreakthrough, #Fullerenes, #Vanadium, #Gadolinium, #Bismuth, #Iodine, #Radiology, #MedicalInnovation, #DrugDevelopment, #Healthcare, #ScientificBreakthrough,
After Joe Brennen noticed that his right testicle was unusually hard, he immediately sought medical attention. An ultrasound revealed a cyst on the testicle and a diagnosis of Seminoma pT1A, or Stage One testicular cancer. He underwent a successful surgical procedure which resulted in the removal of the testicle and his spermatic cord. Joe said the recovery was much rougher than the procedure. It caused him to miss two weeks of work and left him in pain that he addressed with Vicodin and ibuprofen. Joe rallied, recovered and says his health is very close to what it was before his diagnosis.

In late 2018, Samina Cepal went in for her routine pap smear, but her visit turned out to be anything but routine. It led to a CT scan, a pelvic ultrasound and a diagnosis of cervical cancer. Samina underwent a grueling regimen of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. She experienced acute fatigue, weight loss, hair loss and despair, but three months later, her doctor said she had no evidence of disease. These days, Samina can exercise, which includes vigorous use of a hula hoop, and has regained her appetite and her pre-diagnosis weight.

This week we enter the world of cardiac CT for congenital heart disease reviewing a recent report of a survey of congenital cardiologists who perform congenital heart CT scans. What have been the important trends seen in the past decade beyond expansion in the field in general? Why has the use of the CT scan grown at such a rapid clip? How much radiation does a present day CT scan represent for a patient? How are cardiology fellowships responding to the growing role of this modality in the field? How can we more properly assign accurate relative value units (RVU's) to the significant work effort involved in the performance and reporting of this novel modality. We speak with the first author of this week's work, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Weill Cornell, Dr. Rebecca Epstein. doi: 10.1016/j.jcct.2024.02.002. Epub 2024 Feb 15.

I get lots of calls from runners who need a second opinion for running injuries like metatarsal stress fractures. Many times they are confused by medical terminology in their imaging reports. In this particular case, the runner wanted to know what it meant when her radiology report said that there was "5 millimeters of shortening of the second metatarsal bone," the bone that had the stress fracture. In this episode, I am going to explain what fracture "shortening" really means and how it shows up on a CT scan. What exactly is shortening of a fracture when it shows up on a CT scan? Well, that is what we're talking about today on the Doc On The Run Podcast.

Today's guest is author, speaker, and positive entrepreneur Jesse Brisendine. Early last week I noticed that Jesse was going through a life altering situation with his partner Amanda. I asked him to come on the show to share his story with The Next Room audience. Amanda recently started to have some headaches. They would come and go and they didn't seem like anything, major. As they persisted they attributed it to stress. Eventually Amanda went to the urgent care, and they said that they too thought it might be stress related and prescribed her some meds. She then started to lose almost like her spatial relationship. As she was trying to write on a whiteboard, she described it as the the pen kind of went all the way away from the whiteboard. She thought it was strange but because it went away quickly she dismissed it. On May 19th Amanda had just finished a hike and afterward as she was standing in line with groceries it felt as through her right leg was giving out. Once she made it back home, the same thing happened again with her whiteboard and pen. After discussing with close family members they knew Amanda needed to get to the E.R. Once at the hospital the doctor put Amanda through a series of tests. He ordered an MRI and a CT Scan. When the doctor came in to speak with them he explained that this was the worst part of his job. He told them that Amanda had a brain tumor. When they asked what that meant for her. The doctor said that it was the start of a very long journey and that her life would never be the same. Jesse and Amanda's journey will inspire you and challenge you to think differently about being in the moment. Jesse's final observation today is powerful... He said; "Time is not infinite, it is finite, but what I'm really realizing is that when we embrace the finiteness of of time, we create a space for the infinite. And that's really, I think, the magic of life. So, what do you want to do with the time you have left?" Help Amanda in her fight- Go Fund Me Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Lindsey: hi dr. cabral - i have had what seems to be kidney pain for years. i only get relief when my spouse does really deep tissue massages on my lower back. after, my stomach makes gurgling noises and it ends up being gas. ive gone 1 time to a gastro for this and they said it's not my kidneys but inflamed intestines appearing as kidney pain. can you please point me in the right way ? Katherine: Hi Dr. Cabral, Thank you for all u do! You are my "benchmark" in the health world. Wondering what you would recommend a member of your family if this happened to them. Summer 2022 I had a really bad kidney stone that landed me in the hospital. I passed it. Since then I had about 4 more instances of kidney stones (but not as severe-was able to take some meds to ease the pain until it passed). Recently I went for a CT Scan and it showed my left Ureter dilated. The Urologist suggested another CT scan with dye or a to putna camera in and see if something is there causing a blockage or a tumor. Curious what I can do to be more proactive. Tina: Love your show :) what is the best alternative to a mammogram? Thermal imaging anything you can recommend please I do not want to go for a mammogram. I've read other women with mast cell activation having breast cancer. Also, really trying hard to get rid of mast cell activation. Is cancer is a sign of mast cell activation ? Alma powder will it help mast cell activation? Alma powder better then berberine? Been researching alternatives to semaglutitde with myself having insulin resistance type 1 diabetes I am full plant based no fat no sugar no salt Please need help Olivea: Dr. Cabral, The information you provide is wonderful. I just listened to your podcast 'why not fast until lunch' I have never been a huge proponent of fasting for myself simply because of my schedule. Curious what you would recommend for my schedule in regards to fasting and overall health - I try to eat dinner around 6:30/7pm each night. I wake up at 4:45 for the gym - I typically eat an apple on my way to the gym (I go to CrossFit) - my workout is an hour (starting at 5:15am) and then I have 1 egg + some egg whites around 7am, I then make myself a smoothie with water, fruit, and almond milk and take it to work with me and it usually takes me a few hours to drink it. I guess more of what I am asking is - someone who has morning workouts - what do you recommend for fasting? Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Melissa: I've had 6 CTs in my life (abdomen at age 23; neck, abdomen, and head at age 30; and spine and head at age 36). I calculated my total additional cancer risk based on some research and calculators to be somewhere between 1-2%. This feels like a huge risk to me, and I'm terrified that it's one I cannot do anything about, as I understand it's just chance that my cells may not repair themselves or die - and then that's that. How risky is it really to have this many CTs already, and what can I actually do (if anything) to prevent radiation-induced cancer down the road? How much control do we really have in cancer prevention (of any cancer type) from this source? Thanks so much! Michelle: Hi Dr. Cabral - You've helped me so much. My question is on meditation. I am trying to work on my chronic stress and started meditation about three months ago. I don't feel any changes from it. I read a book, read articles, tried mantra meditation, tried guided meditation, tried different styles, and tried doing it on my own. I started with 15 minute meditations twice daily but after two months of not feeling anything reduced it to 10 minutes first thing in the morning. Questions since I don't feel any changes: 1- Does this mean I'm doing it wrong? 2- Even if I don't feel any different can I assume it's still making changes in my brain? 3- Are there some people who have to fix other things before they feel changes from meditation? Does meditation not help some? Anita: Dear Dr Cabral, thank you for all of the knowledge you share with your community. I value and appreciate you. I just came across the Jay Feldman Wellness podcast. In podcast #106;he shares studies stating omega 3's lead to oxidative stress. I'm wondering if you have read the studies he refers to, and am interested in your feedback on this subject. He did not say low quality omega-3‘s, and he cited many studies. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. Warm regards, Anita Summer: Hi Dr. Cabral! I've been doing a seasonal detox for a few years now, and I learn something new and am able to pin point new things EVERY time! The last few times I've noticed while on the detox, basically every night I have some type of histamine response during/after dinner. It doesn't happen during or after lunch, just dinner. I've used DNS daily for years so no problem there. I assume there's something in one of the detox supplements that's causing a histamine response? My ears, pointer fingers, knees, and toes all turn red hot and a little puffy/tight feeling. Thoughts? I usually just plow through and continue taking the supplements since the reaction doesn't last long. Hoping the benefits are outweighing the risks, but I'm not so sure. I always appreciate your opinion Thank you for tuning into today's Cabral HouseCall and be sure to check back tomorrow where we answer more of our community's questions! - - - Show Notes and Resources: StephenCabral.com/2941 - - - Get a FREE Copy of Dr. Cabral's Book: The Rain Barrel Effect - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: CabralSupportGroup.com - - - Dr. Cabral's Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Complete Minerals & Metals Test (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Complete Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Complete Omega-3 & Inflammation Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - Get Your Question Answered On An Upcoming HouseCall: StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - - Would You Take 30 Seconds To Rate & Review The Cabral Concept?
