Peter Daly-Dickson is the co-founder and CEO of Macanta, a software company serving start-up and emerging franchise brands, in the UK. One of his partners, a best-selling author, prior to the start of their joint venture, knew the value that having a book, could bring to a start-up, or emerging business. So they thought about publishing a book centered upon their new business and its disciplines. Then, Peter had a vision to take that a step further and to invite others to join in the creation of a collaborative, multi-author publication, that would not only lift their own new business, but also those of the contributors, as well. Peter's thought was that more stakeholders, with shared purpose, would be better, in terms of assuring success. A rising tide lifts ALL SHIPS, is how he viewed it. Well, Peter was right. The book was released as an International Best Seller on Amazon Kindle and will soon be available in paperback. Here to talk about it all, is Peter Daly Dickson…..
If I asked any random person on the street “what is Stoicism?”, I’m pretty sure many of them would be hard pressed to say more than a sentence or two about it, and I have to include myself in that group, so I had to do a quite a bit of research before talking with today’s guest, Peter Daly, my brother, who has been practising Stoicism for 15 years. It’s a discussion on the ancient philosophy from Greek and Roman times, which has been in and out of favour over the centuries and now in the 21st century, it has undergone a big revival with modern Stoics applying it as a framework for living in today’s complex and demanding world. This 30-minute podcast covers the history, the key aspects, the practice and resources for the modern Stoic. Growing up in a state of oppression, Catalonian Jordi Casamitjana says his childhood experiences made him identify closely with the animal world. His overarching concern for animal welfare now shapes all the decisions he makes in his life. So when he discovered that his employer was investing his money into practices that were cruel to animals, he knew he had to stand up and fight. But with no law in place to protect him, Jordi embarked on the mammoth task of establishing a new legally held belief that would impact Vegans across the globe. Kate Gerbeau speaks to Dr Jeanette Rowley of The Vegan Society, Peter Daly, employment lawyer at Slater and Gordon and Domenic Kennedy, reporter at The Times about Jordi’s landmark legal case.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Suggested Retail Range – $6.95-$8.65 per cigar Manufactured at Tabacalera LaAlianza S.A., Santiago, Dominican Republic What else have you been smokin' Dale? Trinidad Coloniales - 130 mm (5.12”) x 44 - For my money, one of the most refined and well balanced Habanos in a small format. Creamy coffee, light chocolate, sandelwood and mild exotic spices notes. Medium bodied smoke with a long finish. Be sure to sip on these to keep them cool and be able to notice all the complexity. Some of the fainter flavors you may pick up are lemon citrus, hazelnuts, yeast, …..... Oliva Serie V Lancero - 7” x 38 - Nicaraguan puro with a Habano Sungrown wrapper that is oily exquisite! Coffee, spice, cocoa and roasted grain flavors in a bold & smooth smoke. Full bodied, full flavored and one of the more affordable priced Serie V sizes. Alec Bradley Prensado Corona Gorda - 5.6” x 46 - Nicaragua & Honduran tobaccos done right! Talked about these in other sizes recently, so I wanted to smoke the Corona Gorda next. This had the same smoothness, red pepper spice and core leather & coffee notes, but the spice was more prominent and there was a touch more richness then the Churchill or Gran Toro sizes. Pinar del Rio Robusto - 5” x 50 - Domincan & Nicaraguan tobaccos in a reddish Habano Sungrown wrapper. Very earthy with a notable well fermented tobacco aroma. Cedar, spice and everything nice! What else have you been smokin' Bob? SouthBound Series Latitude by Jameson Cigars: Latitude is the first release in the bundled SouthBound Series. A medium-bodied value smoke meant to be enjoyed every day. Latitude features Dominican fillers bound with a Criollo 98 leaf from the Dominican Republic and finished off with a broadleaf wrapper from Pennsylvania. Punch After Dinner Maduro: If you want an 'authentic' full-bodied Honduran blend you can't miss with this cigar. Blended with Honduran, Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos wrapped in oily Ecuadorian-grown Sumatra wrappers, it is rich in flavor, high in quality and affordable. I have been smoking these daily for over two weeks now and I gotta say, this is one outstanding cigar. A 100% Corojo cigar from the famed Segovia factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. Wrapper is Brazillian Corojo; binder is Costa Rican Corojo; and the filler is a mix of Nicaraguan and Honduran Corojo (50/50). Available in six sizes: Original (5x44), Corona Gorda (5.5x46), Robusto (4 7/8x49), Belicoso (5.5x52), Toro (6x50), Lancero (7.5x38). Dark Side - - ???????. What else have you been smokin' Dale? Fuente Fuente Opus X Double Robusto - 5.75” x 52 One of the things I like best about Opus X cigars is the heady room aroma. Full of exotic spice and rich tobacco notes, the aroma is absolutely intoxicating. The Double Robusto presents typical OpusX flavors, but tends to accentuate the nuttiness and depth of spice variation more than many of the other vitolas. Full bodied, full flavored but not too strong. La Perla Habana Black Pearl Belicoso - 6.25” x 52 A very dark Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper over Nicaraguan, Mexican and Dominican tobaccos leads to a brawny cigar filled with meaty, toast and cedar flavors. A mild cane sweetness comes on after the first inch or so, and lingers for the remainder of the smoke. One of those “interesting” cigars, not to my everyday liking, but every now & then it just hits the spot! Medium bodied but very full flavored. Graycliff Crystal Edicion Limitada 2010 - Appeared to be the same size as the Crystal Presidente (7” x 48), although I did not measure it. This cigar broke through the previous Graycliff experiences for me and was outstanding. Very firm construction, slightly square pressed and none of the light grassy flavors I have found before with this line. Mild to medium in body, the cigar was classy in the flavors it delivered. Smooth light coffee, an oak woodiness, walnut type of nuttiness and a buttery smooth finish. What else have you been smokin' Bob? Hemingway from Fuente - A classy smoke with an easy draw. Very pleasing tobacco and light smoky flavors. San Lotano Maduro - Drove all over Florida to find these after having tried them. Rich flavors of dark cocoa and bittersweet chocolate with a slight citrus spice to make it interesting. Cain Daytona - Another winner from Oliva. A slightly less strong version of the Cain cigar that seems to please a much wider group of smokers. Roasted flavors of leather and a hint of citrus spices make this one heck of a cigar that is sure to be a market winner. What's My Band? - this week's Unbanded Cigar, the Cuba Aliados Toro (6 x 53), was provided by Liz. February Palio Cutter Contest Winner: Jared Street from Akron, Ohio, won the silver Palio Cutter. Enter the March contest now to win a carbon Palio Cutter. Check out the show at www.livestream.com/cigar_radio where the show is broadcast live most Friday evenings at 9 PM EST. In this episode, Adam and I talk to Edmonton-based entomologist Peter Daly. His job involves bugs, and that's good because he loves them almost as much as he loves talking about them. Peter discusses the pests we deal with in Edmonton, common misconceptions about insects and spiders, and generally shows off how much smarter than either of us he is. Adam makes it clear that he's got serious worries about ticks. And as for me, I once again, am somehow the quiet one by comparison. Oh, and Spider-Man.
