In this Outdoor Quickie, Jen and Dyana dive into the "Rule of Thirds," a concept shared by Olympian runner Alexi Pappas during an interview with Idea Generation. Pappas recalls advice from her coach during her training for the Rio Olympics. After a particularly tough day, when she felt like giving up, her coach reassured her, explaining that in the pursuit of any big goal, you're supposed to feel great 1/3 of the time, okay 1/3 of the time, and lousy 1/3 of the time. If your experience balances out that way, you're right where you need to be. Her coach emphasized that a bad day was just part of the journey. In the episode, both Jen and Dyana share their experiences with the Rule of Thirds and how they apply it in their lives.Where to find and support Bush & Banter: Follow Bush & Banter on Instagram: @bushandbanter Visit Bush & Banter's website: www.bushandbanter.com Join Bush & Banter's Patreon community: patreon.com/bushandbanter E-mail Bush & Banter: bushandbanter@gmail.com Follow Dyana on Instagram: @dyanacarmella Follow Jennifer on Instagram: @thewhimsicalwoman

“We really want to deliver on the connectivity between the host, the sponsors, and the audience.” - Mike Jensen, CEO of Rhapsody Voices This week, our Ad Infinitum superhost Stew Redwine brings you a very special guest—Mike Jensen, CEO of Rhapsody Voices—to chat about the many Rules of Three in audio. Audio is replete with threes: first, there's production: voice-over, sound design, and music. Then, there's the classic story structure of beginning, middle, and end. Of course, there's also timeless rhetorical appeals: pathos, logos, and ethos. Mike adds a fourth dimension: the Host, the Audience, and the Sponsor. With all these forces at play in audio advertising, how can marketers make heads or tales of things and get the best ads for their dollar? Check out the episode for more insights from these two major players in audio, plus everyone's favorite segment, on-air ad ratings!

Whether it's from the page to the screen or directly out of your favorite (or not so favorite) videogames, Hollywood loves an adaptation. The rule of thirds is a concept I recently learned about from an Olympian, Alexi Pappas, on endurance athlete Rich Roll's podcast. And I think it might change your life! Today on the podcast, I dive into this concept and what we can do with it when it comes to our lives and our progress towards our dreams and doing hard things. So often we feel the urge to give up because we have a bad day, we think it'll never work, when in fact the rule of thirds might be coming into play here. As the design world faces the challenge of addressing wastefulness, it may be surprising to learn, the key to creating beautiful design while remaining eco-conscious lies in our very own backyards. A Los Angeles-based designer, Patrick Ediger has a formula that harnesses hyper-local practices to craft sustainable, timeless, and functional design for his clients. In this episode we learn: - reframe the discussion from eco-conscious to one of sustainability and what that means on a human level - rule of thirds means you source 1/3 from vintage/reused, 1/3 from sustainable, and 1/3 from local maker or manufacturer - source local craftsmen via Instagram, word of mouth, and trade publications - educate your clients about higher quality = higher costs - what I learned through BOD™: processes, goal setting and the importance of designing with integrity and the obligation we take on as design professionals to provide the best service we possibly can to our clients. HT1571 - You Can't Avoid the Rule of Thirds The primary alternative to the Rule of Thirds is bullseye composition where the subject is placed in the center of the frame. The minute you move that subject out of the center, you're probably going to end up on a third, somewhere. Maybe it would make us feel more comfortable if we referred to this as the "Rule of Off-centered Balance."

It can feel so challenging to balance every aspect of your life and it is difficult, but in this episode I share how to navigate that and explain the rule of thirds when it comes to feeling good, okay and crappy in life when you have a goal in mind.
When we talk about great opening sequences, everyone always has one that comes to mind whether it's that iconic music and first attack in Jaws, the sweeping futuristic cityscape and increasing anxiety of the interview in Blade Runner, or Indie's jungle exploration and immediate hurried escape in Raiders of the Lost Ark. A single scene or sequence can set you at ease and know you're in for a ride for the rest of the runtime. Rule of Thirds returns this season with an opener of its own as Nick, Dean, and Tim discuss their own favorite scenes so settle in and join us for Rule of Thirds!
