Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 15:1-23 Saul was the first king of Israel and, though Israel's desire for a king was a 'great wickedness' (1 Sam 12:17), Saul was chosen by God Himself (1 Sam 9:16; 10:24). He was handsome and tall (1 Sam 9:2) and "there was none like him in all the land" (1 Sam 10:24). On more than one occasion, God had granted Saul divine empowerment by His Spirit (1 Sam 10:10; 11:6; 19:23). Saul's kingship, however, was characterized by disobedience to God … and coming very near the beginning of his rule. On two occasions, at least, Saul sinned greatly and rationalized his acts with the logic of darkness. In 1 Samuel 13:8-14, he violated a command of God to wait for Samuel to meet him at Gilgal, where they would offer sacrifices (1 Sam 10:8). His rationalization was the urgency of moment and the desertion of people in the face of an impending battle (1 Sam 13:11,12). On another occasion, following the defeat of the Amalekites, Saul had not destroyed all the animals and Agag, the king (1 Sam 15:1-9). Pleading that he had, in fact, obeyed God, Saul's rationalization was he spared the best animals, in order to sacrifice them to the LORD (1 Sam 15:15,21,22). God's well-known reply, through Samuel, to Saul's rebellious logic was to say, "To obey is better than sacrifice" (1 Sam 15:22). Samuel did not mean that people should not sacrifice, but that there is a kind of sacrifice that is not true obedience. True obedience comes from the heart … the heart of faith.

by Paul D. Bramsen (Author) All the episodes are about 15 minutes. "Even if a log soaks a long time in the water, it will never become a crocodile" (Wolof Proverb) ...nor will being RELIGIOUS make a person RIGHTEOUS. The Way of Righteousness is an English translation of one hundred 15-minute radio programs first written in the Wolof language for the Muslims of Senegal, West Africa. With Islam's perspective of God, man, sin, and salvation in mind, The Way of Righteousness chronologically presents the key stories and central message of God's prophets according to the Bible. All one-hundred programs are interconnected, yet each stands alone - challenging the listener to consider God's righteous way of salvation. This book has a two-fold purpose: 1.) READING BY ENGLISH-SPEAKING MUSLIMS AND ALL TRUE SEEKERS; 2.) TRANSLATION INTO OTHER LANGUAGES FOR RADIO BROADCAST. Currently, The Way of Righteousness is being (or has been) translated into more than twenty languages. About P. D. Bramsen Paul D. Bramsen has spent much of his life in Senegal, a majority-Muslim nation on the edge of the Sahara. His writings flow from a passion for the Scriptures and from thousands of dialogues with Muslim neighbors ad contacts in Senegal and around the world. Bramsen is the author of the 100-episode radio series THE WAY OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, the book ONE GOD ONE MESSAGE, the booklet YOUR STORY, and the illustrated book KING OF GLORY. Working with a small team over a period of nearly four years, his most recent project has been to see the KING of GLORY book turned into a movie. http://king-of-glory.com Paul is president of ROCK International (Relief, Opportunity, and Care for Kids / Resources of Crucial Knowledge). http://rockintl.org He and his wife are based in South Carolina. one-god-one-message.com
God's voice has been consistent, trustworthy, quiet and loud since long before human history and it continues to be all of those things now. Of all of the people that he has spoken to and through, you continue to be his favorite. He's speaking to you right now in fact, but there's just so much noise in our lives that we all struggle to hear his encouragement, caution, care and the many reminders that he sends our way. Let's just take a few weeks and allow ourselves to rest in the knowledge that God is close and that He Speaks.

Samuel, Saul, David. These guys take up all the narrative in 1 Samuel and they have a bunch to teach us about how we seek the Lord! “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” - 1 Samuel 16:7 All glory be to Christ our King! Sermon by: Pastor David Newton ------------ You are welcome and loved! ------------ If you need prayer or help in anyway please reach out to us! We are a church that desires to follow Jesus and seek His Kingdom as one body together in Him through loving Him with all we have and loving others. In all we do we seek to... worship the Lord passionately, connect with each other authentically, grow to know the Lord deeply, and go and share the gospel boldly as One Body in Christ. Maybe the Lord has brought you to this message for a reason. "And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." -Matthew 28:18-20
Whether or not you believe in old ladies that fly a magic-powered broomstick, or the undead wrapped in linen, there is one that you should believe in with absolute certainty. You should believe in Jesus with a faith that makes you unafraid of anything. Hebrews 2 says that there is nothing hidden from the presence of God, and the psalms say that no harm will overtake you. Welcome to Redemption Church. My name is Chris Fluitt and I say hello to everyone joining us in person and everyone joining us online. We are in the last week of our spooky sermon series called Biblical Horror Story. Tonight's story is found in 1 Samuel 28 and while you are turning there, I want to ask you… are they real? Vampires? Mummies? Werewolves? Ghosts? Witches? Our Bible story tonight might make you think a little differently about the things that go bump in the night. Our story tonight is a tale I like to call the witch of Endor. The Witch of Endor To help me tell this story are dramatic readers playing 4 roles. Narrator, King Saul, the prophet Samuel, & the witch of Endor Narrator: The people of Israel wanted a king. God gave them a handsome and tall king named Saul. King Saul was the first king of Israel. The prophet Samuel anointed Saul as king and Saul tried to help the king, but on several occasions, Saul disobeyed the commands of God. The prophet Samuel sternly told King Saul. Samuel: Saul listen! [1 Samuel 15:22-23] To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. 23For rebellion is like the sin of WITCHCRAFT, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.” Narrator: It has been many years, and now… [1 Sam 28] 3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in his own town of Ramah. Saul had expelled the mediums and WITCHES from the land. 4 The Philistines assembled and came and set up camp at Shunem, while Saul gathered all Israel and set up camp at Gilboa. 5 When Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid; terror filled his heart. 6 He inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets. 7 Saul then said to his attendants, Saul: “Find me a woman who is a WITCH, so I may go and inquire of her.” Narrator: The attendants said ““There is one in Endor.” 8 So Saul disguised himself, putting on other clothes, and at night he and two men went to the woman. Saul: Consult a spirit for me and bring up for me the one I name. Witch: Surely you know what Saul has done. He has cut off the mediums and WITCHES from the land. Why have you set a trap for my life to bring about my death? Saul: As surely as the Lord lives, you will not be punished for this. Witch: Whom shall I bring up for you?” Saul: Bring up Samuel, Narrator: 12 When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out at the top of her voice and said to Saul… Witch: Why have you deceived me? You are king Saul! Saul: Don't be afraid. What do you see? Witch: I see a ghostly figure coming up out of the earth. Saul: What does he look like? Witch: An old man wearing a robe is coming up. Narrator: Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground. 15 Samuel said to Saul… Samuel: Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up? Saul: I am in great distress. The Philistines are fighting against me, and God has departed from me. He no longer answers me, either by prophets or by dreams. So, I have called on you to tell me what to do. Samuel: Why do you consult me, now that the Lord has departed from you and become your enemy? 17 The Lord has done what he predicted through me. The Lord has torn the kingdom out of your hands and given it to one of your neighbors—to David. 18 Because you did not obey the Lord or carry out his fierce wrath against the Amalekites, the Lord has done this to you today.

The truth is – there's an element of Samuel, Saul and David in all of us. Understanding the qualities in each of them will surely help us appropriate what God seeks to accomplish in our own lives.

Saul renews his pursuit of David, and providentially chooses to relieve himself in a cave that David is hiding in. David refuses to kill Saul, but stealthily cuts off a piece of his robe instead. Nagged by his conscience, David confronts Saul outside the cave, indicating he could've kill him but did not, and appeals to God to judge between them. Saul is moved to tears by David's kindness and declares that he now knows David will be King. Saul asks (and David swears) that he not kill his family when that day comes. Spoiler Alert: the truce doesn't last, as Saul renews his murderous pursuit in chapter 26.
In this message Pastor Andrew looks at the transition of leadership from Samuel & Saul, and the call to pray for others.

Today we will go over the stories of three men. We will continue discussing Samuel and his calling as a prophet that has to deal with the Israelites rejecting God. Then we discuss Saul who was called by God and fails morally. Then we talk about David: a man after the heart of God and his reaction when God's promise for him doesn't happen right away. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jessica-robinson2/support

How should Christians react to enemies in their life? They should start by trusting that it's part of God's larger plan. 1 Samuel 19:1-24
King Saul loses God's favor because he made oaths, offered sacrifices, and appointed priests. What's wrong with that? Find out why God isn't looking for religious people, but faithful people. 1 Samuel 15:1-35

We should have leaders that are pretty nice people- live by some basic standards problem is when we hold them to a standard we don't hold to ourselves. What good is that?Interesting story here- Jonathan is Sauls son, but hears his dad wants to kill his friend, so he warns him. Convinces dad to not kill David, he agrees, but it doesn't last long. David starts winning with the philistines, more popular and Saul don't like it. Saul tries to kill him. Saul sends hitmen to his house. Davids wife Michal (sauls daughter) tries to stall them. Saul seems upset his own daughter isn't on his side. She even says David tried to kill her! David goes to hideout in Ramah with Samuel- Saul sends hitmen again and they run into prophets every time. Saul goes to investigate and he gets hit with the spirit. He falls out in the spirit and gets humbled by God. Saul is not being a good King here. He's actually being a bad King and a bad person. What do the Lord of the Rings, the movie Aquaman, and the book of 1 Samuel have in common? The answer to the question I just asked, is that in all of them a key theme is that people want a King. But not just any King, they want a King who is strong, good and just, and who will conquer evil enemies. You may be familiar with the stories of how Arthur Curry became Aquaman and Strider became Aragon, and in this lesson you’ll learn the history behind how Israel got its first king. Before the first King Saul, we will look at the life of Samuel, the last of the Judges. He's a powerful, fascinating character, that though over 13 chapters in the Bible talk about him, we know little of his personal life. But we know a lot about the things he did for God and how his life was the link between the time of the Judges and Israel's identity as a nation. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/yvon-prehn8/support
