The Mindful Healers Podcast with Dr. Jessie Mahoney and Dr. Ni-Cheng Liang
A special release in honor of National Women Physicians Day 2026. Today's conversation is an invitation to notice overfunctioning with compassion. Overfunctioning may have helped you succeed in medicine but it often costs you intimacy, energy, and connection. Overfunctioning and underfunctioning, as well as the resentment that follows, are a familiar relational dynamic. Overfunctioning is not a personality flaw; It's a role we step into. It is shaped by our training, context, and culture. When we pause, rest, and allow space, we usually find that the world doesn't fall apart. Others step forward in their own time and way. Even when it feels unfamiliar, this shift can offer clarity, growth, and alignment with how we truly want to live and lead. Pearls of Wisdom • Overfunctioning is a relational role developed in response to internal and external expectations. • When one person consistently does more, others often do less. Over time, the systems adapted this way. • Resentment is information. It often signals over-capacity. • Doing less can be an act of love that allows systems and relationships to reorganize. • When we stop stabilizing what's falling around us and tend to our own nervous systems first, is when change begins. Reflection Questions Where in your life are you doing more than your share simply because you are capable? What feels most uncomfortable about stepping back? What might happen if you rest or stop managing? What would love do this week in your relationships or at work? Join me for coaching or a retreat to explore how to change the overfunctioning habit. www.jessiemahoneymd.com In Mindful Love Small Group Coaching we specifically look at overfunctioining in the context of our intimate relationships. In Leading from the Heart and Transition Well Small Group Coaching we work on it in the context of career and life pivots and leadership. At retreats and advanced coaching, we work on moving beyond it in every realm of your life. “Type two diabetes is 100%, and I'll say this again, 100% reversible if done properly.” The journey to feeling better isn't about chasing the latest fad—it's about restoring balance and learning how to nourish yourself in a way that truly lasts. When food becomes a source of healing instead of struggle, energy returns, confidence grows, and the body naturally settles into its healthiest rhythm. This isn't just about weight or numbers—it's about coming alive again in every part of life. Dr. Jane Durst Pulkys dives into simple but powerful practices: three real meals a day, space to let your body reset, and the gift of eating foods that love you back. She shares stories of clients who see inflammation melt away and vitality return, and ultimately a sense of freedom they didn't think was possible. Her message is that real transformation doesn't come from restriction, but from clarity, structure, and a willingness to put yourself first in a way that benefits everyone around you. Dr. Jane is a nutritional coach, speaker, author, and PhD whose work helps people reset their metabolism, balance hormones, and reclaim their joy. She has guided physicians, athletes, executives, and everyday people through lasting health changes, and her new cookbook, The Metabolic Balanced Kitchen, brings her approach into beautiful, practical recipes anyone can use. Eclipse energy is intense, but it is not here to punish you. It's here to awaken you, to call you into a level of honesty that no longer tolerates the small self, and to usher you into transmutation - from fear into love, from survival into the power of your Spirit. In this conversation, I share the two pathways of transmutation: The pathway of excavation - diving into the origin of your identity and wounding with compassion. The pathway of frequency - choosing to be led by spirit and standing tall as a pillar of faith, abundance, and devotion. Whichever path your soul resonates with, the invitation is the same: to let intensity lead you into liberation, belonging, and the fullness of your spirit. When it comes to spiritual matters, do you find yourself undecided? You may think you are, but the truth of the matter is, there is no such thing. We're either for Christ or against Him. There is no in-between, and the decision you make has eternal ramifications. Today we'll look at someone who thought he could put off deciding. Have you made that decision to be on Christ's side? The Lord reminded us that we're certainly not going to win a popularity contest if we name the name of Christ and at times we'll face intense hatred and persecution. But like the Apostles we'll meet today, let's be encouraged to make a stand for Christ no matter what is thrown our way. The Mindful Healers Podcast with Dr. Jessie Mahoney and Dr. Ni-Cheng Liang
Have ever felt like you had to hide parts of yourself to belong, especially in medicine? Honoring your truth, even in a high-intensity field like neurosurgery, can lead to deep healing, joy, and a renewed sense of purpose. An intimate and courageous conversation with Dr. Jenny Kang, a neurosurgeon who shares her inspiring story of transformation—one that challenges traditional definitions of success and fulfillment in medicine, particularly for women in surgery. Jenny and I first connected when she came to a Pause & Presence retreat over a year ago. Since then, she has reconnected with herself, her family, and created a life she loves. Her story is one of coming home to yourself and standing tall once you get there, even if you work in operating rooms built for much taller people. Pearls of Wisdom: You don't have to do it the way you were told or even the way you once believed you should. There are many ways to practice medicine with meaning. When women physicians live aligned lives, they bring healing into medicine and themselves. Fulfillment in your career and personal life is not only possible, it's necessary. Shame often arises when you do things differently in medicine. It doesn't mean you have done something wrong. Creating a life that works for you takes courage, creativity, and compassion—and it's always worth it. When you let go of the belief that you don't belong and instead decide that you do, everything begins to shift. Reflection Questions: Where in your life are you living by someone else's mold or definition of success? What would change if you decided you belonged? What parts of your life have you labeled “indulgent” that might actually be essential for your healing and wholeness? If you're ready to design a fulfilling life that fits who you are, I invite you to explore coaching with me at www.jessiemahoneymd.com/coaching. Or join me on a retreat like Jenny did, www.jessiemahoneymd.com/retreats. If you're seeking a speaker or workshop leader for your organization or event, visit www.jessiemahoneymd.com/speaking. Send us a textAs Mercyhurst University makes its ambitious leap into NCAA Division I men's lacrosse, one name to watch between the pipes is sophomore goalie Jaret Jawor.A native of Lockport, Illinois, Jawor played his high school lacrosse at Wheaton Academy, where he developed into a strong and athletic netminder. Now standing at 6-foot-3, Jawor brings size, reach, and a calming presence to the crease—traits that are quickly turning heads in his second collegiate season.Jawor made his college debut in 2024, seeing time in six games as a freshman. He made 21 saves while posting a 6.95 goals-against average and an impressive .618 save percentage, finishing the season with a 1–0 record. His early showings hinted at potential, and in 2025, that potential has started to materialize. This season, Jawor has stepped into a more active role, appearing in five games and making one start. Across 143 minutes of action, he's registered:38 saves36 goals against15.06 GAA.514 save percentage1–1 overall recordBut the numbers only tell part of the story. In NEC conference play, Jawor has stepped up under pressure, delivering a .571 save percentage across two appearances—highlighted by a standout 19-save performance against Robert Morris. Though the Lakers didn't secure the win, Jawor's poise and shot-stopping ability stood out in a hard-fought matchup. The 2025 season is a landmark one for Mercyhurst. After years of dominance at the Division II level, the Lakers have entered the Division I stage with a youthful roster, a new head coach in Trey Keeley, and something to prove. While postseason eligibility will have to wait, performances from players like Jawor have helped Mercyhurst secure key wins—most notably a dominant 22–6 victory over Hampton. As Mercyhurst builds its foundation in Division I, Jaret Jawor is emerging as a core piece of that future. With two years of eligibility left and a growing confidence in the cage, expect Jawor to continue evolving into one of the NEC's top goaltenders.Keep your eye on No. 12—he's just getting started. Enjoy my conversation with future star Jaret Jawor.Support the show

The final sermon of the series Standing Tall by Pastor Brent Snook
God has graciously given us a good king we don't deserve.
In this sermon, we delve into the powerful story of Ahab, Jezebel, and Naboth from 1 Kings 21. This tale reminds us of the destructive nature of covetousness and the importance of standing firm in our faith. We see how Naboth's courage in upholding God's law cost him his life, yet his integrity shines through the ages. The story also reveals the dangers of unchecked power and the consequences of manipulating others for personal gain. As we reflect on Ahab and Jezebel's actions, we're challenged to examine our own hearts. Are there areas where we've let greed or envy take root? How can we cultivate contentment and generosity instead? This biblical account also highlights God's justice and compassion. While He doesn't let evil go unpunished, He still offers mercy to those who humble themselves. Let's be encouraged to stand tall for what's right, trust in God's timing for justice, and always be open to His transformative grace in our lives.
Today we will learn about Hannah, her son Samuel, and the power of prayer.Parents, want to keep talking? Here are some ideas:*With your child, make a simple poster about things to pray for by gluing pictures onto a piece of construction paper. In the middle, write, "God hears me when I pray." When your child wants to pray, he or she can look at the poster and pick a few things to talk to God about. (ages 2-4)*What do you think you would do if you heard a voice in the night calling your name? What do you think God wants you to do for him? (ages 5-9)*Eli's sons Hophni and Phinehas grew up in the temple, but didn't honor God. They didn't truly know and love God. How can you show God that you know and love him? (ages 10-12)One last thing! This week April asked, "Where is your favorite place to pray?". We would love to hear your ideas! Simply record a voice memo and send it in a text to 636-280-5433. You may even be featured in an upcoming episode. *By sending in a voice memo, you're providing consent for your minor's voice to be on the podcast*Normal Goes A Long Way Website: https://www.normalgoesalongway.com/Normal Goes A Long Way Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/normalgoesalongway/Normal Goes A Long Way Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Normal-Goes-A-Long-Way-110089491250735Normal Goes A Long Way is brought to you by Messiah St. Charles: https://messiahstcharles.org/Normal Goes A Long Way is hosted on Zencastr. Today's Talmud page, Sanhedrin 92, commands us never to demean ourselves, even when in great and mortal danger. How did Mordechai, whose bravery we just celebrated this Purim, embody this ideal? And what does it have to teach us about leadership? Listen and find out.
What if the word “whistleblower” conjured up something more powerful than a piercing whistle? This week's guest thinks it should—and she's leading the charge to reframe what it really means to blow the whistle. In this episode of Fraudish, Kelly speaks with Jackie Garrick, founder of Whistleblowers of America and author of Be a Giraffe. She shares the emotional toll of speaking out, the ethical gray areas whistleblowers often navigate, and why mental health support and community are critical pieces of the puzzle. From finding legal representation to shifting public perception, Jackie is on a mission to make sure whistleblowers aren't just heard—but understood.Connect with Jackie and her work:
Has there ever been a time in your life when you knew what God wanted you to do, but you did the opposite? Taking His law as a suggestion (instead of, well, law), you went ahead and did it your way. Obedience isn't our strong suit. God can certainly work through us when we do what is contrary to His will for our lives. But imagine how much sweeter the relationship with your Savior would be if you took the words "thy will be done" to heart! In obedience, there is so much God can and will do through you. It's not about being bossed around; it's about opening yourself up to the life that Jesus wants for you. We see the Israelites going their own way (again), and God giving them what they want. There's a lot for us to learn from their mistake and we will hear more about it in this week's episode with Pastor Chuck Schlie. If you'd like to dig deeper, check out these discussion questions.
