A police Captain is appearing in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court today, facing allegations of defrauding the South African Police Service (SAPS) of millions of rand. The 53-year-old is accused of manipulating the finance system to withdraw cash meant for presidential protectors' expenses. FEDUSA trade unions represented in the Public Service Coordinating Burgaining Council, together with the South African Police Union (SAPU) are expected to lead a protest march TODAY to the offices of the Government's Employees Medical Scheme's head office in Pretoria. This follows the implementation of a nine-point-five percent increase in medical aid membership contributions. The South African Policing Union, SAPU, together with philosopher Professor Motsamai Molefe, will today hold a national dialogue in Pretoria to declare gender-based violence and femicide a National Moral Disaster. The event builds on President Ramaphosa's previous call to treat GBV and femicide as a national disaster. Organisers are now going further, issuing a clear five-point demand: stop GBV, stop femicide, stop rape, stop murder and stop the killing of police officers. The South African Policing Union (SAPU) is mourning the tragic deaths of three police officers whose bodies were recovered from the Hennops River in Centurion. National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has confirmed the identities of the officers, Constables Cebekhulu Linda, Keamogetswe Buys, and Boipelo Senoge, who went missing while en route to their deployment in Limpopo. En la tarea de dignificar el servicio de salud que entrega la Municipalidad de La Calera a través de su Departamento de Salud, se inauguró hoy la Segunda Estrategia de Salud para Personas Mayores, que funcionará en dependencias del SAPU de Artificio. Esta iniciativa es segunda en su tipo en la comuna, la primera se desarrolla en la Delegación Municipal de Villa Valparaíso, ubicada en calle Bolognesi N° 743. “Hoy estamos inaugurando nuestro segundo circuito de atención oportuna a personas mayores, para hacer justicia a la alta demanda de patologías que presentan sobre los 65 años de edad. Consideramos la atención de un médico, un fonoaudiólogo, una tens y un administrativo de lunes a viernes desde las nueve a trece horas acá en el SAPU de Artificio, donde se trabaja con mucha dedicación y esfuerzo de poder cumplir con la normativa que nos pide la Seremi de Salud”, indicó el alcalde Johnny Piraíno. La primera autoridad comunal añadió “esta es una tremenda oportunidad para todas las personas mayores, para que reciban una atención inmediata y oportuna frente a los diversos problemas de salud que se puedan presentar”. Esta innovadora gestión permitirá disponer de un médico que atenderá de forma oportuna los requerimientos de salud a personas mayores de 65 años, en consultas de dolencias habituales como dolor de estómago, resfriados y otras afecciones comunes. Cabe destacar, la importancia que tiene esta estrategia dirigida a las personas mayores, evitando que ellas se expongan a las bajas temperaturas solicitando una hora de atención. De esta forma se previene que este segmento de la población sea sujeto de enfermedades respiratorias. Salud más cerca de los territorios La nueva estrategia comprende un aumento en el tiempo de atención médica, evaluaciones integrales tanto a nivel cognitivo y motor, además de emocional y social. A estos servicios se suma la atención oportuna a trastornos de la memoria, comunicación y orientación y aplicación de medicamentos inyectables y toma de parámetros médicos. Respecto a los profesionales que conforman esta iniciativa, la integran un médico, un fonoaudiólogo, una tens y un administrativo. Sandra Acuña, adulto mayor de la comuna agradeció al alcalde por generar este tipo de estrategias “hoy nuestra primera autoridad comunal nos demuestra que sigue haciendo la diferencia con el corazón. Nosotros como personas mayores agradecemos esa preocupación latente, para entregarnos una mejor calidad de vida. Al alcalde y concejales seguiremos en este camino con todo nuestro apoyo y agradecer a su vez a la directora del DESAM, quien trabaja mancomunadamente con su personal, para que las personas mayores recibamos una atención de salud primaria óptima en el sector de Artificio, que ya no es el patio trasero de La Calera, felices de ver como avanza y se desarrolla nuestra comuna”. Para brindar todas las condiciones en cuanto a infraestructura del SAPU, se realizaron mejoras en sus dependencias renovando 4 box clínicos, renovación de baño universal, redistribución del espacio físico, junto a la habilitación de botiquín de farmacia para la estrategia.
