A ghost that can copy your face, sit on your porch while you're miles away, and keep you trapped in a brutal death rattle until you “pass it on” to your kid? That is where our deep dive into Hantu spirits begins, and it only gets stranger from there. We're Josh, Jamey, and Aleca, and we're digging into Malaysian and Indonesian paranormal folklore where “Hantu” is a broad category for spirits, ghosts, and demons. We talk through the Hantu Raya contract and the idea of a familiar that demands offerings for protection, plus the chilling inheritance angle that turns a haunting into a family problem. Then we move into Pontianak lore, a terrifying figure tied to childbirth fears, roadside encounters, and the disturbing iron nail legend that claims she can be forced into human form. From there, we hit the Pocong, the shroud-bound ghost that hops or glides through the night, and the Penanggalan, a witch whose head detaches and flies with glowing organs, hunted with thorns, chilies, and the smell of vinegar. We also cover the Hantu Bomo, the shaman who falls into darkness, and the Toyol, a toddler-like stealing spirit distracted by marbles and beans. We connect these myths to broader questions about how legends spread, why certain patterns show up in the US too, and how AI videos make the modern paranormal harder to trust.Subscribe for more paranormal history and folklore, share this with a friend who loves ghost stories, and leave a review. Delivered by Christine Gunawan from the Parish of Saint Joseph Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Pontianak, Indonesia. Deuteronomy 8: 2-3.14b-16a; Rs psalm 147: 12-13.14-15.19-20; 1 Corinthians 10: 16-17; John 6: 51-58.WE ARE SUSTAINED BY THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST The theme for our meditation on this Sunday, Solemnityof the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is: We are Sustained by the Body andBlood of Christ. The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christinvites us to contemplate a profound truth: Christ does not only teach us froma distance. He gives Himself completely to us. In the Eucharist, Jesus becomesour food and drink so that we may have life in Him and continue our journeywith strength, hope, and love. In the Gospel, Jesus states frankly that His body, the flesh of the Son of Man, and Hisblood are the food we should eat. This reveals more than just His power toprovide material food, but a deeper gift. Just as people are nourishedphysically, Christ nourishes us spiritually through His Body and Blood. Humanshunger for many things: acceptance, peace, meaning, forgiveness, and love. Nogift from this world can fully satisfy our hunger. Only Christ can fulfill thedeepest longings of the human heart. The Eucharist reminds us that God understands ourweakness. We often become tired, discouraged, and burdened by life's struggles. At times we may feel inadequate in our vocation, family responsibilities, ministry, studies, or work. Yet Jesus does not leave us to rely solely on ourown strength. Every time we receive the Eucharist with faith, He shares His ownlife with us. His patience strengthens our impatience. His love heals ourwounded hearts. His courage sustains us when we feel afraid. The Eucharist is also a call to become what we receive. We receive the Body of Christ so that we may become the Body of Christ forothers. The bread that is broken for us challenges us to share ourselvesgenerously. The cup of salvation invites us to pour out our lives in service, compassion, and forgiveness. Nourished by Christ, we are sent to nourish othersthrough our words, presence, and acts of kindness. A father shared a story about how the daily and weeklyEucharist sustains him and his family. The burdens of life and theresponsibility of caring for his family are daily tasks that cannot beneglected. Therefore, every time he attends the Eucharist, he is given theopportunity to receive the Lord Jesus and bring Him into every situation andactivity in his life. Like that father, we often find that our strength isinsufficient. The Eucharist reminds us that we are not sustained by our ownefforts alone. We live by Christ himself. He feeds us so that we can continueour journey faithfully.Let us pray. In the name of the Father … Lord, Jesus, You give us Your Body andBlood as the food of eternal life. When we are weak, strengthen us. When we arediscouraged, renew our hope. When we are tempted to rely only on ourselves, remind us that You are always with us. May every Eucharist deepen our unionwith You and transform us into instruments of Your love for others. Glory tothe Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father…

Delivered by Christine Gunawan from the Parish of Saint Joseph Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Pontianak, Indonesia. 2 Timothy 1: 1-3.6-12; Rs psalm 123: 1-2a.2bcd; Mark 12: 18-27.WHEN THERE IS MISUNDERSTANDING Our meditation today has the theme: When There IsMisunderstanding. A young man was falling is love to a girl he had known forseveral months. The girl was ten years younger than him. The young man alwaystook every single opportunity to meet the girl he so loved. At one point he directlydeclared his love to her. The young man said: "I am in love with you. Canyou accept me, given our age difference is 10 years. All this time I have beenworried about speaking with you directly because of this age difference."The girl replied: "It's okay. I accept it. The important thing is that onecondition must be met." "What is the condition?" asked the youngman. "The condition is, you just wait until I'm of same age as you." As long as we as humans in this world we willexperience many misunderstandings. The above story is one of the many examples.Misunderstandings generally occur because there is no common understanding orthought among us. If we don't make an effort to address it, it will potentiallybecome a conflict and trigger a split between us. We should avoid the examplesof misunderstanding we find in the scriptures. The story of Tobit shown in the Old Testamentillustrates people's misconceptions about suffering of believers. Suffering forJesus' sake should not be considered a curse and a very shameful fate. Instead, suffering is an opportunity to gain God's grace and blessing. The secondmisunderstanding is the view that goodness and sacred calling are obtainedsolely because of human deeds. God is seen as having no role at all.Supposedly, this is because of the intention and love of the Lord God Himselfwho chooses and gives us highest dignity among all creatures. The Sadducees misunderstood that later in eternal lifethe biological husband and wife would resume their marriage there. They thoughtthat humans will only change their home address when they enter the afterlife.Jesus affirmed that they were really misunderstanding and that led them to thewrong direction of life. If there is a misunderstanding, what should we do? Letus realize that God is the One from whom we get light, counsel and a way toturn to the right understanding. We should also remind each other so thatmisunderstandings do not continue and have the opportunity to become great.Conflict is ready to strike if a misunderstanding is allowed to become bigger. Letus pray. In the name of the Father... O Lord Jesus Christ, teach and strengthenus always to be on the right path and understanding according to Your wisdom.Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In the name ofthe Father ...

Delivered by Christine Gunawan from the Parish of Saint Joseph Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Pontianak, Indonesia. Acts of the Apostles 15: 7-21; Rs psalm 96: 1-2a.2b-3.10; John 15: 9-11.STAY ALWAYS IN MY LOVE Our meditation today has the theme: Stay Always in MyLove. This is a sentence that came from Jesus himself when he revealed himselfto the world as the true vine. He invites all His followers to live with Him,for in Him there is a life that can produce abundance of fruits of love, joy, happiness and salvation. The apostles who heard Him directly had proven themselvesto live with Jesus and they bore fruits in their mission as true witnesses ofthe Lord Jesus Christ to the whole world, as genuine messengers of the Gospel. To fulfill the work of salvation according to theFather's will, Jesus invited those who followed and believed in Him to livewith Him. He does also now to you and tome. Living in Him makes us enjoy His immense and perpetual love. We respond tothis invitation with our faith that we are ready, we want to, and we long tolive in Him. In the midst of our daily activities day and night, this invitationcomes along and prompts us to think, this must be for our happiness andfullness of life. We cannot simply take it for granted. For those who alwayslive sincerely in God's love, this invitation of Jesus is certainly a greatspiritual enrichment for them. For example, a family that always lives in peace, harmony and love, when it accepts this invitation in good will, they surelyachieve a step further in their growth of faith. For those families orindividuals who have no experience of love or maybe the one who prefers morehatred than love, this invitation and its assurance for a happy life in JesusChrist is a divine initiative that wants to bring them back to God, in theembrace of His bountiful love. They don't need to be shy, nor to be afraid and theyhave to avoid feeling lack of confidence, because the one who invites and givesassurance is the Lord himself. They must be sure that the love of God is farmore powerful that can overcome all human weaknesses. God's love can heal ourfrail or shattered life and encourage us to start a new life. In choosing tofollow this, one can already embrace a new life and grow to be mature in thelove of Christ. On the basis of that love and especially in the nameof the Lord Jesus Christ, the apostles of Jesus held a council of the earlyChurch's leaders in Jerusalem, with the aim to strengthen the vision andmission of the newly established Church. They discussed, debated and evendisagreed over certain different ideas found. But for the sake of the only andholy Church, they came out with a solution from the guidance of the HolySpirit, which was to work together in the building up the Church and continued tospread it throughout the world. Let us renew our commitment to Jesus by saying His ownwords: Stay always in my love! We must not reject it, but we happily welcomeit. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Almighty God, may Your love reign in ourlives, and we gladly welcome the invitation of Jesus Your Son that we are happyto stay in His love. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the HolySpirit … In the name of the Father …

Delivered by Christine Gunawan from the Parish of Saint Joseph Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Pontianak, Indonesia. Acts of the Apostles 2: 42-47; Rs psalm 118: 2-4.13-15.22-24; 1 Peter 1: 3-9; John 20: 19-31.UNITED ON THE BASIS OF GOD'S MERCY The theme for our meditation on the second Sunday ofEaster is: United on the Basis of God's Mercy. The resurrection of Jesus Christbrought new hope to the early Church. The disciples who were previouslyoverwhelmed with fear now experienced joy and courage. They were united infaith and love. Unity was not just human togetherness, but was born from theexperience of the risen Christ. The resurrected Jesus gathered the scattereddisciples, united them and made them witnesses of God's love for the world. The risen Jesus came to the disciples and breathed outthe Holy Spirit on them. It was the Holy Spirit who was the strength and thespirit of the Church's unity. Those who were previously hesitant and afraid werenow a courageous community. The Holy Spirit enabled them to accept one another, strengthen one another, and live in a spirit of brotherhood. Their unity wasnot because of the commonality of character, but because of the Spirit of Godwho lived in them. In the Holy Spirit, they found peace, courage, and a spiritof service. The wounds on Jesus' body became the profound signs forthe disciples' faith. When Thomas doubted Jesus' resurrection, Jesus did notreject or condemned him. Instead, He showed His wounds as evidence of His loveand sacrifice. From those wounds, Thomas found faith and cried out, "MyLord and my God." Jesus' wounds are the signs of God's mercy. Those woundsbecome the bridges that unite all believers, to signify that that Christ whosuffered, died, and rose is the source of salvation for all. The unity of the early Church was born out of theexperience of God's never-ending love. They lived in togetherness, shared whatthey had, and took care for each other. The great love of God united them inone solid fellowship. They were aware that they were all brothers in Christ. That unity really comes from God's infinite love and mercy. In a community, there were two friends who had aserious argument that they distanced from each other. The community life forboth became cold and full of tension. But one day, one of them fell ill andneeded help. Without hesitation, the friend who involved in that dispute cameto visit and help. Their hearts were touched and they forgave each other. Thisis a sign that mercy is able to heal wounds and reunite. Thus, God's mercy works in the life of the believers.God's infinite love unites and strengthens the fellowship of His people. In therisen Christ, we are called to live in brotherhood and to strengthen oneanother. The Holy Spirit continues to animate the Church to be strong forever.United in the mercy of God, we become a sign of love and hope for the world. Letus pray. In the name of the Father ... O Almighty God, strengthen us in Yourmercy now and forever. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the HolySpirit... In the name of the Father ...
As winter finally loosens its grip and warmer days call us toward beaches, jungles, and humid nights under foreign stars, I find myself drawn to the monsters that thrive in heat and darkness—the creatures that hunt where the air is thick, where the jungle closes in, and where something ancient waits beneath the canopy. Today we're diving deep into the tropical terrors of Southeast Asia and the Philippines—a collection of six creatures that prove the warmth doesn't keep the monsters away. From the Aswang's detachable torso to the Pontianak's vengeful hunt, from the Tiyanak's false cries to the Manananggal's midnight flight, these are the predators that make you think twice before wandering into the jungle after dark. Delivered by Christine Gunawan from the Parish of Saint Joseph Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Pontianak, Indonesia. Isaiah 42: 1-7; Rs psalm 27: 1.2.3.13-14; John 12: 1-11.ENDLESS LOVE Our meditation today is entitled: Endless Love. Whatdoes an endless love mean? When Jesus was dining with his close friends, awoman named Mary, according to theGospel of John did something that only love can do. She took the most valuabletreasure she had and used it only for the Lord Jesus Christ. A sincere and genuine love does not use calculations.Mary's love to Jesus is an endless love. What she did to Jesus was based on herlove and gratitude to Him who bestowed an endless love too on her and herfamily. God of mercy empowered her, strengthened her faith and presented her asa model of faith to others. Mary did an act of love that should not be made inpublic by a Jewish woman. She let her long hair loose in front of Jesus andseen by many present. She washed Jesus's feet with her tears. According to thecustomary rules, a woman on her wedding day must tie and cover her hair. Sowhat Mary did at that moment was prohibited by law. Meanwhile, a married womanwho let hair loose in public to be seen was a very bad sign and considered asinner. Mary's action certainly annoyed everyone around herexcept the Lord Jesus. But she did not care about the reactions of those peoplepresent. She just wanted to express her pure love for the Lord. In humility shebent down to anoint Jesus' feet and wiped them with her long hair. What Mary'sdid to Jesus indeed gives us a message, namely, to remind us on how many timeshave we shown our greatest form of gratitude and love to God! The perfume oil that she used to anoint Jesus, madethe entire house filled with fragrance (Jn 12.3). Those present and the houseitself were all made fragrant and pleased both physically and spiritually. Onlyan endless love can do this act. This is enough to illustrate that any womanand man can do some great acts love to the Lord Jesus Christ like what Maryfrom Bethany did. It is not impossible for any of us to do such love in anysituation and context. Jesus Christ always gives us an example to share anendless love. In this holy week we will find ourselves in moments of ponderingand meditating His acts of love. Today we are given the image of Jesus theservant of God, who was willing to suffer like a bruised reed or a fadedsmoldering wick, but He would not be broken or faded away. He will still upholdthe law of justice and truth on earth. His love lasts forever on this earth.Jesus will not disappear or finish just by undergoing suffering and dying. Heactually, goes through all this and continues to live in all of us Hisfollowers. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, teach and strengthenus to always be able to endure the difficulties and sufferings that confrontus, even when we have to sacrifice our lives. Our Father who art in heaven...In the name of the Father ...

Delivered by Christine Gunawan from the Parish of Saint Joseph Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Pontianak, Indonesia. Hosea 6: 1-6; Rs psalm 51: 3-4.18-19.20-21ab; Luke 18: 9-14.GOD PLEASES THE HUMBLE Our meditation today is entitled: God Pleases theHumble. Humility is in the central point of truth in our Christian faith, thatdescribes ourselves as incomplete or imperfect human beings. So it reallyrequires the other party to complete ourselves. Our fellowmen always play theirdifferent roles to complete what are lacking in us. For believers, God is the Onewho is the source of all helps and providence. God knows so well the real situation of His children, some of them are humble and some are arrogant or proud. Those who are humble,He completes them with the graces to fill up what are still lacking in them. Those who are proud or arrogant obviously do not need anything else to completein themselves. They are already full and perfect, so all they need is praise, respect, fame, and good name. The distinction between humility and pride can be seenin various aspects of life. The language we use and choice of words are enoughto indicate who is humble and who is arrogant. The body language we show, ourclothes, the food or drinks we consume, and relationships among people are veryobvious examples to indicate if someone is sincere as a humble person orinstead the arrogant one. Our liturgical readings today illustrate aspects ofprayer or expressions of our faith. In our prayers or being in the presence ofGod we can be seen either humble or arrogant persons. The Gospel of Lukedisplays the presence of humility in the tax collector who felt that he didhave relationship with God. But this relationship was already damaged by hissins. Thus, his prayer was full of guilt feeling, regret, confession of sins, and asking for forgiveness. In his humility, he knows the merciful God was pleasingto hear, accept, and forgive him. On the other hand, the presence of arrogance is in thePharisee who knew that he had indeed a relationship with God, but thatrelationship is like a relationship between friends. They are like on the samelevel, which is equally good, beautiful, and perfect. Like the peers usuallydo, the Pharisee revealed all his qualities with the intention to be praisedand respected by God whom he considered the same level as he. Jesus said thatthis kind of arrogance was clearly not pleasing to God and not obtaining Hismercy. The key to being humble is as the prophet Hosea saystoday: our prayers and offerings must be our genuine love for God, and not toexpose ourselves.Let'spray. In the name of the Father … Almighty God, make us humble in our words andactions every day, that we may become your instruments for our Salvation. HailMary, full of grace... In the name of the Father ...

Delivered by Christine Gunawan from the Parish of Saint Joseph Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Pontianak, Indonesia. 2 Samuel 18: 9-10.14b.24-25a.30 - 19: 3; Rs psalm 86: 1-2.3-4.5-6; Mark 5: 21-43.KEEP GOING ANDKEEP THE SPIRIT The title for our meditation today is: Keep Going andKeep the Spirit. A phrase that is similar to this title is: the game must go on. Italians call it"sempre avanti". We realizethat the demons do not stop or never tire of tempting us. Likewise, we knowthat we will always experience difficulties and suffering. We remember the temptation Jesus faced three timeswhen He fasted for 40 days in the desert. It is said that when Jesus drove thetempter away as He was commanding, "Go away from me, you, Satan!",the devil did leave, but he kept waiting for another opportunity to tempt anddeceive Jesus. Today our readings seem to give the impression thatthe demons were resting for a while. Therefore we see that Jesus had a freeopportunity to heal the sick. Perhaps Satan was also sympathetic to the sick,so he did not want to do more harm and add to their suffering. Or maybe theyrespected Jesus who was doing His work. David, who was being opposed by those close to him,was also free from the threat. His son Absalom who threatened him had died. Inhis palace David was sad and wept for his son. He must continue his duty tolead the kingdom because it was a sacred duty from God. Sadness is natural and continueto occur, but it is just for a moment. We have to keep going and keep our spirits up. Ordinary and daily duties, mandates, missions, and responsibilities should remain our occupation at all times. Eventhough temptations, challenges, distractions, difficulties, and even threats ofany form come along the way, we just keep going, be hopeful and joyful. Godknows we are struggling or even threatened, but He allows us to keep going andHe will step in to help when we are no longer able to bear the burden of life. This at least prevents from two bad habits that we often are not aware of. First, when we have successfully passed an trial ordifficulty, we become relaxed, less vigilant, and not anymore focus. This isactually a good opportunity for the devil to approach and do his job. Second, when we have overcome all obstacles ordifficulties, not long after, other difficulties come. Consequently, we becomedesperate, tired, hopeless and give up. It is also an opportunity for the devilto come closer and get excited about his work. So to overcome a relaxed anddesperate situation, we need to have a strength, which is to keep working and remainexcited. Let us pray. In the name of the Father... O Lord JesusChrist, strengthen our faith so that we can overcome the mere relaxation anddespair within us about our daily activites. Glory to the Father and to the Sonand to the Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father ...

Delivered by Christine Gunawan from the Parish of Saint Joseph Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Pontianak, Indonesia. 1 John 4: 19 - 5: 4; Rs psalm 72: 1-2.14.15bc.17; Luke 4: 14-22a.LOVING GOD IS LOVINGNEIGHBORS Our meditation today isentitled: Loving God Is Loving Neighbors. On April 15, 2018, Pope Francisvisited a church in the city of Rome and he had a dialogue with the children.Emanuelle, an 8-year-old boy, walked forward and asked the Holy Father aquestion. "A few days agomy father passed away. My father was an atheist. But he is a very kind father. We four children were so loved by him. He took us all to church to be baptizedinto Catholicism. And so, is my father now in heaven?" Emanuelle asked thequestion in heavy words because he was crying. Pope Francis gave asatisfying answer and strengthened the heart of Emanuelle with his threebrothers and mother. The Pope said that God brings a good person with kindheart to heaven. Anyone in this world who does goodness to others is verypleasing to God. He or she is certainly so loved by God. He or she must be inheaven and not anywhere else. The problem is thatEmanuelle's father is not a believer. He is an atheist. In other words, ingeneral understanding, he does not love God. But in the reality of his life heis a kind and loving person. He even did a very great act of love, which was tobring all his children to the Church, to Jesus, and to God. This means he knowsthere is God. He entrusted his family to God. He was actuallyloving a God he is not believing. We must call this a hidden faith, an implicitfaith, or faith known only to God and his own deepest heart. Even he himselfdid not realize that in his subconscious and deepest heart there iscommunication with God. Therefore this father could not help but already havelove for God, so with sincerity and love he offered his children to God. Saint John in thefirst reading today confirms that whoever loves God, he must also love hisfellow brothers and sisters. The love he gives or shares to others is the samelove that he receives from God, because God first loves him. The experience of anatheist father for his four children is enough to give us awareness andunderstanding that we as believers surely love God and we also love ourbrothers, sisters and neighbors. These are all the fulfillment of thescriptures as expressed by the Gospel reading of today. When love is expressedand shared, the scriptures come true and fulfilled. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Jesus, make us diligent and faithful with Your Word, then we areencouraged to fulfill Your mission on earth. Hail Mary, full of grace ... Inthe name of the Father...

Maarten Fornerod van het IGV (Indische Genealogische Vereniging) is de digitale archieven in gegaan en ontdekt het verhaal van de familiegeschiedenis van oma Didie van Delden.
La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Delivered by Christine Gunawan from the Parish of Saint Joseph Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Pontianak and Yurika Gunawan from the Parish of Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Makassar, Indonesia. Malachi 4: 19-20a; Rs psalm 98: 5-6.7-8.9a; 2 Thessalonians 3: 7-12; Luke 21: 5-19.THE CALLING TO ENDURE The title for ourmeditation today is: The Calling to Endure. There was a big fight going on in afamily. It started from a misunderstanding of husband and wife. Because eachdid not accept the other, one threatened the other to get out of the house. Thehusband prepared to get out of the house. But at the same time, the wife wasalso preparing to leave. All three children cried and tried their best to stoptheir parents' try to leave the house. They put all effort to prevent thisfrightening act they did not want to happen. The eldest son accompanied by histwo younger siblings stood at the door to prevent the father or mother fromleaving the house. Because of the strongefforts of the three children, the parents put off their desire to get out ofthe house. This happening in this family actually illustrates two importantthings that determine the fate of the family: escape from problems or endure toface and overcome them. The choice made indicates one's human quality and spiritualstrength. There are so manyproblems and difficulties we face in this life. Today's Gospel illustrates anumber of big, complicated and very frightening problems. These two choicesalways challenge us to choose which is the best. For the best option, JesusChrist commands us to choose to endure. He gives us a perfect example, namelyHimself who endured to the end of His life, during the moment on the cross asHe cried out before his last breath: "It's finished". The Lord Jesus indeedasks us to endure whatever the circumstances at any time. Our goal to endure isthat we may obtain salvation in the hands of God. There are several supporting elementsthat help us to endure. First is the promise of the coming of the Lord on theday according to God's will. If there is promise as the truth to hold on, thefact that the promise is made for us by the Lord himself as stated by the thebook of the Prophet Malachi, people certainly have reason to stay and toendure. Second, according to the responsorial psalms of today, the realizationof the promise is very important. Everyone is certain about his or her destiny, which is determined by the final judgment to decide on every human person'sworthiness to enter the kingdom ofheaven. Third is the abilityto use the time during the periode of endurance. This ability refers to theattitudes a calmness, patience, and keep working to solve the problems we faceon earth. Maybe the problem is about many people around us who are jobless, insufficiency of people's basic needs and other real problems that humans faceat the present moment. In this period of endurance, we must be able to work forthe salvation of all souls that the Lord Jesus Christ has promised us and hasmandated us to do. To endure in emptiness is the same as foolishness. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O heavenly Father, may this Sunday celebration fill us with ability andenthusiasm to endure in this life. Glory to the Father and to the Son and tothe Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father...
Is believing in conspiracy theories a sign you're open-minded… or just a little bit psychotic? We begin this week with an especially terrifying creature from Indonesia known as the Pontianak . Dan will share the lore of the Pontianak and then a handful of supposed modern encounters with this vengeful, angry, female, vampiric spirit. Next, Dan shares Ontario, Canada's Baldoon Mystery. A good ol' fashioned poltergeist story with a very strange twist from the 19th century. For stories three and four, Lynze brings us a ouija board double whammy, unintentionally. Her first story is one we can all relate to at the start as we begin by sleeping in the basement. Then, a family has a bizarre connection to Charles Manson and he brings some paranormal horror to their lives! Scared To Death Merch: Exciting new merch is up in the store! Like so many of our listeners, we were once youth with little to no financial means who often felt like outcasts. We were lucky enough to not have the added layer of complexity by adding in housing insecurity or being denied support because of who we loved. Lost and Found Youth is providing a space for people 18-25 experiencing homelessness. This organization is doing incredible work and we are so thrilled to be sending them 11,530 dollars this month! And 1,280 will be headed to the scholarship fund. Way to go, Roberts and Annabelles! You are making a difference in the world! In this week's episode, we explore one of Southeast Asia's most feared and enduring supernatural figures: the Pontianak. Said to be the restless spirit of a woman who died during childbirth, this ghost appears as a beautiful woman in white—until she reveals her true form. From Malaysian kampungs to Indonesian cities, her legend is woven into generations of folklore, sightings, and cautionary tales. We trace the origins of the Pontianak, her chilling appearances in modern times, and the cultural beliefs that keep her story alive.OBSCURATA - Apple Spotify AmazonThe BOOKBY US A COFFEEJoin Sarah's new FACEBOOK GROUPSubscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEResearch Links:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontianak_(folklore)https://www.nst.com.my/news/2016/08/164882/ghostly-encounter-pontianakhttps://eresources.nlb.gov.sg/infopedia/articles/SIP_2019-04-01_170038.htmlhttps://mythlok.com/pontianak/https://www.scmp.com/lifestyle/article/3193535/malaysias-pontianak-ghosts-and-feminism-horror-storieshttps://www.asiaone.com/singapore/ghosts-are-real-malaysian-writer-believes-paranormal-sightingshttps://folklorethursday.com/legendary-creatures/pontianak-vampire-south-east-asia/https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-22891380https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2023/03/21/fear-of-the-unknown-villagers-claim-pontianak-sighted-in-kampunghttps://www.tiktok.com/@myghoststories/video/7203958392349560065 (for viral sightings reference)https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/189172.Malay_MagicThanks so much for listening, and we'll catch up with you again on Wednesday.Sarah and Tobie xx"Spacial Winds," Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licenced under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licencehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/;;;SURVEY Hosted on Acast. In this special episode, we feature some of the most haunting stories and of course, they had to happen in Changi. Changi is the place nobody wants to talk about, let alone wander about at night. Apparently, the Pontianak, a vengeful female apex predator, identified by her white gown and long black hair, haunts the place. Is it the same single entity terrorising our confessors or are there multiple versions of her? You decide, on this episode of Haunted Heritage: Changi, only on Supernatural Confessions. Supernatural Confessions was created and produced by Eugene Tay. If you would like to support this channel, do consider backing us on Patreon [www.patreons.com/supernaturalconfessions]. Weekly featured confession videos are live shows are streamed on YouTube [www.youtube.com/supernaturalconfessions]. Merchandise available on our website [www.supernaturalconfessions.com]
The lady in red is dancing with me, cheek to cheek. Too bad she's a Pontianak! That's right, this week the village is being haunted by a either a ghost, demon, vampire, or witch: it's the REVENGE OF THE PONTIANAK and we'll discuss all the chilling details. Plus: Steven reviews LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL, Patrick discusses his playthrough of CONTROL, and Chris tells the tale of Robert the Doll. Director Glen Goei shares his inspiration: https://www.timeout.com/singapore/film/director-glen-goei-shares-his-inspiration-behind-revenge-of-the-pontianak Robert the Doll art project: https://tskw.org/robert-the-doll-matthew-leifheit/ Join the conversation on Discord at https://discord.gg/PptTvM3mCd
