On one side, Nicodemus, representing all well-meaning, God-fearing, scripture-memorizing folk. On the other, Jesus Christ. And what the latter says...
The term “born again” is well-known in our society today. It has unfortunately taken on a number of definitions and meanings, most of which have nothing to do with what the scriptures say. It was the Lord Jesus himself who gave the command. So, what does Jesus say about this scriptural imperative?

There were complications during Caroline's first pregnancy and birth, which left her with the story that her body was broken. (You can listen to that full story from Caroline's first appearance on the podcast here.) After a little over a year of deep healing work — including a life-changing plant medicine ceremony — Caroline consciously conceived her second baby, leaning into trust so fully that she never even took a pregnancy test. Although she considered freebirthing her second baby, Caroline ultimately chose to hire a traditional midwife to attend her at home. She set firm boundaries where they were needed, stepped fully into the role of sole authority over her birth experience, and emerged from this second birth with the wounds of her first finally healed. John 3:4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born, can he?” And the answer is obvious: “No, a man cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born.” We learn from Nicodemus' question that he had no concept of spiritual regeneration. He didn't understand what Jesus was talking about, much less see his need of being born from above. Unfortunately, the concept is probably strange to many people today, who, like Nicodemus, have been raised in a God-fearing, Bible-teaching, church-going family. Even more tragic cases are the Bible teachers and preachers who, like Nicodemus, have much knowledge but do not have the life of Jesus born in them from above. More than likely, Nicodemus' relationship with God was based on his living for God and the accumulation of knowledge about God and the Law. He probably considered himself to be one of the most important spiritual leaders in Israel. We learn later in John 7:50 that he was a member of the Pharisees. With all of his learning and recognition, Nicodemus lacked spiritual understanding of life in the kingdom of God. It is impossible to live to love with Jesus without being born from above by the Holy Spirit. It is the work of the Spirit that transfers us out of the domain of darkness into the kingdom of God (Col. 1:12). The Holy Spirit is given by the Father and the Son, Who implants within our souls and bodies the life of Christ. He is born in us by the Holy Spirit, like He was born into this world through Mary. In both cases, Jesus receives a body in which to live to love with His Father. As Jesus said in John 14:23, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.” God is love, and He plants His seed (the Holy Spirit) in the soil of our souls. Living to love with Jesus is the fruit of God's seed. Being born from above, we have the living Word of God, Jesus Christ, dwelling within us. As we abide in Him, His life is revealed in this world. Do you understand what Jesus said to Nicodemus? Have you been born again by the Holy Spirit? Do you see the love of Jesus growing in your life? I invite you to become a partner in our ministry. Would you pray about becoming a regular supporter of Elijah Ministries and the Live to Love with Jesus ministry? I hope you will receive the joy and benefit of “giving it forward,” so others may receive encouragement to turn their hearts to God and to live to love with Jesus. In this episode, interior designer and mother of two Bec shares her contrasting birth experiences at Sandringham Hospital in Melbourne. Her journey to motherhood began after marriage, taking six to eight months to conceive Ava. "I was one of those people testing like five days before you can test and just thinking I was pregnant every time," Bec recalls of this period. They welcomed a puppy during this time, which she reflects may have added to the journey: "I think that caused like it was a bit stressful, of course, getting a new puppy. So I think that's also part of it. Once we kind of settled into having little Archie, then it kind of happened after that."For more photos and birth stories, follow us on Instagram here.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dr. Leah has had her son and we are SO excited to welcome baby Kade to the world in this episode, detailing his birth story. Leah takes us on all of the twists and turns of the long unexpected path of getting him earthside - starting with the homebirth plan and natural induction methods to then reaching 42 weeks and pivoting to the hospital to get him here. Sometimes birth is a mystery where we never really get clear answers. We honor and respect what babies communicate to us and in this case, it seemed clear that despite best efforts, his plan was different from hers and she embraced it with grace. During the delivery of her first child, Kayla's care team believed that she experienced a shoulder dystocia, which led to violent, and rushed efforts to get her baby out as fast they could. This left Kayla with a fourth degree tear, a NICU stay for her baby, and lots of trauma to process in her postpartum time. It wasn't until she was considering having a second baby and was interviewing home birth midwives, that she realized the diagnosis of a dystocia in her first birth was probably inaccurate, and her baby simply needed a little more time to emerge. Armed now with the knowledge that her body didn't dysfunction in any way, Kayla chose to have a home birth with her second child, and had a beautiful, healing birth experience. Trudi discusses the second birth and the questions which arise as we think about being "born again".
When Jess found out she was pregnant she assumed she would have a caesarean as her mum had had caesareans with all three of her children. It wasn't until Jess started listening to the Australian Birth Stories podcast that she started to explore the idea of having a vaginal birth. When she experienced pre-labour rupture of membranes (PROM) and was later given oxytocin to help bring her labour on she drew on her birthing class knowledge and had a birth she found empowering. When Jess was preparing for her second birth she thought she would have a long labour like her first and was shocked to find herself birthing in the back of an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
