President Donald Trump welcomed Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa to the White House Monday, the first Syrian President to visit in decades, in what officials describe as a historic step in U.S.-Syria relations. As the government shutdown continues into record length, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has announced a reduction in flights as airports struggle with staffing air traffic controller towers. The plan will cut air travel capacity by ten percent at forty major airports in the United States.
