Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense and former Fox News weekend co-host, is facing mounting scrutiny across three major stories that broke in a single day. Hegseth has classified the Pentagon press area, effectively barring journalists from accessing public affairs officials, a move that is expected to face legal challenges after courts have already ruled against him multiple times for restricting press access. A federal appeals court blocked Trump and Hegseth's transgender military ban in a scathing 107-page opinion written by Judge Robert Wilkins, who found the policy arbitrary, demeaning, and unsupported by any factual basis, noting that transgender service members have served honorably and pose no threat to national security. The New York Times reported that Hegseth personally intervened in a slate of 22 Navy admiral promotions, blocking candidates who are disproportionately Black and female, actions that current and former defense officials say appear to violate the merit-based, apolitical promotion process. Today's Headlines: Kash Patel responded to bombshell reporting about his drinking and incompetence by filing a $250 million defamation suit against The Atlantic — can't wait for discovery then, Kash. Meanwhile, Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer became the third Trump Cabinet member to resign in just a few months, notable mostly because all three have been women while the actual disasters remain firmly in place. On the foreign policy beat, the Iran ceasefire expires tomorrow at 8pm with Trump calling renewal "highly unlikely," JD Vance and crew headed to Islamabad anyway, and oil prices already on the rise. Back home, the House Ethics Committee is mulling expulsion votes for two Florida representatives — one facing sexual misconduct and illegal contract charges, the other caught steering COVID relief funds to her own campaign. In economic news, the Trump administration quietly launched a portal for the 330,000 businesses that overpaid on illegal tariffs to apply for refunds, with no apparent plan for the ones that already went under because of them. Over in Silicon Valley, Amazon invested another $5 billion into Anthropic while California simultaneously filed an antitrust suit against Amazon using the company's own emails as evidence, and Apple tapped 25-year veteran John Ternus as its next CEO, a man described as competent and affable, which feels like a low bar that is nonetheless refreshing. And finally, a bankruptcy judge is the only thing standing between The Onion and its dream of owning Infowars — which would be the most perfect ending to the Alex Jones saga anyone could have written. Hosts Kurt Bardella, Ashley Davis, and Dave Spencer dissect the latest upheaval in the Trump administration and deliver bold predictions about who's next on the chopping block. You'll discover why Attorney General Pam Bondi's sudden departure may have less to do with her performance and everything to do with the looming Epstein files testimony scheduled for April 14th. The hosts debate whether her exit was strategically timed to avoid a bipartisan House subpoena—and whether the gambit will actually work. Kurt presents an intriguing theory: could Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton be appointed as Bondi's replacement, simultaneously solving the Republican Party's Texas Senate race problem? The conversation then turns to cabinet survival odds, with all three hosts making specific predictions about who will be fired before the midterm elections. Kurt makes a bold, date-specific prediction: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will be gone right after July 4th, set up as the patsy for an unpopular war and rising gas prices that could hit $5 per gallon by summer. You'll hear why June represents a critical inflection point—when schools let out, oil potentially reaches $150 per barrel, and the economic consequences of the Iran conflict fully materialize in grocery stores and at gas pumps. Practically Political releases new episodes weekly. Find more episodes and join the conversation about politics where disagreement doesn't have to be disagreeable. A high-velocity news day hits the heartland as host Scott Hannon breaks down a historic shift in the Trump Cabinet and the continued dismantling of threats in the Middle East. As Operation Epic Fury crosses the 100-hour mark, we are seeing a "new footing" in American strength, but the headlines are being stolen by the sudden firing of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. From the "4D chess" moves of the 47th President to a deep dive into military forensics with Major General Michael Haugen, this episode explores the cost of war, the surge of patriotism, and the "national divorce" playing out in Congressional hearings. Plus, we look at why corn is taking the driver's seat in the commodity markets and how "nanny state" ordinances in Fargo are targeting everything from nicotine to Big League Chew. Standout Moments [00:02:15] The History of a 47-Year War Major General (Ret.) Michael Haugen joins the show for a masterclass in military history, tracing the current conflict back to Jimmy Carter's 1979 regime change and explaining how forensics prove Iran's direct hand in killing American soldiers for decades. [00:10:45] The Hector Airport "Toddy" Debate A dissertation on freedom: Should adults be allowed to take a cocktail from the airport bar to their boarding gate? The crew debates Fargo's "nanny state" tendencies and the ridiculous proposed ban on bubble gum cigars. [00:16:30] The Obama Redistricting Blitz The 44th President resurfaces with a coordinated media strike on "fair elections." Scott deconstructs the irony of Democrats complaining about gerrymandering while advocating for census changes that include non-citizens. [00:21:45] Breaking News: Kristi Noem Out, Markwayne Mullin In The bombshell announcement of the day. We discuss the "straw that broke the camel's back"—a $200 million ad campaign—and why the MMA-fighting Senator from Oklahoma is the "new sheriff" the border needs. Rachel Maddow considering the tradition associated with the State of the Union address in which one member of the president's Cabinet does not attend the event in case something happens that prevents everyone in attendance at the speech who would ordinarily be part of the presidential succession from being able to serve. But in Donald Trump's case, his Cabinet is so full of scandal and disgrace, designating a survivor seems impossible. Rep. Pat Ryan discusses rallying local resistance against Donald Trump's planned network of ICE prisons. Rachel Maddow reports on an important sign of light for the rule of law: federal judges losing patience with Donald Trump's Department of Justice for repeatedly defying orders, particularly in immigration cases. The recently released 2007 draft federal indictment against Jeffrey Epstein reveals the full scope of charges that were prepared but never filed. The 56-page document outlined 32 felony counts involving 19 girls under the age of 18, spanning a six-year period from 2001 to 2007. The charges included conspiracy to defraud the United States, sex trafficking of minors, enticement of a minor, and facilitating unlawful travel for illicit sex acts. Twenty-five of these counts carried potential life sentences with mandatory minimums between 10 and 15 years. Federal prosecutors in West Palm Beach had assembled exhaustive evidence and prepared an 82-page prosecution memo to support the indictment. Instead of facing these charges, Epstein's high-priced legal team, including Ken Starr and Alan Dershowitz, negotiated a plea deal with US Attorney Alex Acosta that allowed Epstein to plead guilty to just two state charges. He served only 13 months in county jail with work release privileges, leaving the facility daily to work from his office. The draft indictment details how Epstein targeted vulnerable teenage girls, many from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and operated a systematic sex trafficking operation with the assistance of employees whose names remain redacted. The document reveals threats made to victims and a pattern of abuse that could have resulted in over 100 years of prison time if prosecuted. Hawk examines the legal framework, the specific charges, and the failure of justice that allowed Epstein to continue abusing minors for another 11 years until his 2019 arrest and death. President Trump is pushing back on claims he nodded off during a December cabinet meeting, insisting he only closed his eyes because the marathon session “got pretty boring.” In remarks at Thursday’s follow‑up meeting, he joked that he was wide awake and simply eager to leave. “I didn’t sleep—I just closed them because I wanted to get the hell out of here,” he said.
