Thursday, June 11, 2026Josh is back in studio with Brock for another full morning of best-friend chaos, and the trending thread is all about the best and worst summer jobs people have ever had. Josh shares that working at Kwik Trip was one of his easier jobs, while his worst summer job was helping with drywall and insulation for his uncle's construction company—complete with itchy pink insulation that would not come off no matter how many showers he took.Listeners chime in with everything from cutting grass while allergic to pollen, working restaurant dish pits, doing construction in Norway, cleaning up awful maintenance jobs, working as a dockhand at a marina, caddying on the LPGA Tour, and even teaching juggling at summer camp. Brock also shares that his worst job was working at McDonald's for a month just to pay off a speeding ticket. The show gets into plenty of “What the Heck” stories, including police in Washington using new translation tech to communicate across 50 languages, FIFA banning vuvuzelas from the World Cup, and two guys in Los Angeles filming themselves hitting golf balls into traffic and buildings downtown like complete idiots.Brock and Josh also test how old they are with classic commercial jingles from Folgers, Band-Aid, Oscar Mayer, and Alka-Seltzer, then roll through random facts about moonwalking astronauts, the worst-rated beers in the world, laughter burning calories, Wyoming's tallest building, and the very strange sound effects used for the raptors in Jurassic Park.In the 7 AM Challenge, Josh plays a “what do these have in common?” game and manages to figure out clues involving wagons, weeds, pranks, flags, gardens, bowling alleys, and the oldest jewelry store in the United States. Later, the guys talk about Taylor Swift performing at the Toy Story 5 premiere with Randy Newman, her rumored bridesmaids, and Tom Hanks joking about colonoscopy prep competitions with Martin Short and Steve Martin. The episode also includes a good news story about a Canadian woman helping save her neighbor's life with CPR after his 12-year-old son came to her door for help. Brock and Josh then talk basketball, sore legs, backwards beach days, phrases people say wrong, celebrity gossip, Matt Damon becoming “Nomad” for charity, Supergirl's pierced ears, Machine Gun Kelly's tattoo regret, tiny towns, World Cup events in Northwest Arkansas, and things professionals should never say.The show wraps with Josh finishing out another morning in studio, plans for the lake, Suno songs, breakup-song talk, Olivia Rodrigo comparisons, and one last push for everyone to go buy some furniture at Sam's.

**Maine's Troubling Primary Candidate and the State of Character in Politics**This episode is a thought-provoking discussion about the state of character in politics, particularly in the context of the Maine primary election. The school year is wrapping up for high schoolers. Soon, some teens will put down their backpacks and pick up an ice cream scoop, or maybe a lifeguard whistle. It's the season of the summer job. But this year, it may be a bit harder to find one. Over the past year Minnesota lost more than 5,000 jobs in leisure and hospitality – sectors that tend to hire youth. In March, the teen unemployment rate was 13.2 percent, nearly double what it was in March 2025, according to data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. The higher unemployment rate could be a return to what was typical before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Oriane Casale, assistant director of DEED's Labor Market Information Office. Casale joined Minnesota Now along with Billie Jo Greene, who helps teens find jobs as team leader of the Rural Minnesota Concentrated Employment Program in Bemidji.

On this episode of Escaping the Drift, we sit down with David Royce: founder of Aptiv, EY National Entrepreneur of the Year, and the man who turned a college summer job spraying for bugs into a nine figure exit to private equity. Before selling Aptiv for a number that made hundreds of his employees six and seven figure earners, David was a broke BYU finance student who sold zero pest control contracts in his first five days on the job. He went to a bookstore, bought half a dozen sales classics from Zig Ziglar to Brian Tracy, committed to 90 minutes of reading a day, and finished that summer as the top rookie in the entire company. In this episode, David opens up about the moment his boss casually mentioned selling his pest control business to Terminex for 10 million dollars, the ego he had to swallow to walk away from a Wall Street M&A career, and the white collar approach to a blue collar industry that built one of the fastest growing service companies in America. We dive into why the secret about unsexy industries is they have sexy margins, the Wall Street Journal data showing 43% of the top 0.1% of earners own boring businesses, and why door to door still grows companies seven to ten times faster than digital marketing. He breaks down the surgical software his team built to knock the right neighborhoods, the customization touches that separated Aptiv from every other pest control company, and why he gave 25% of the company away to his managers on the way out.If you have ever sat in a white collar job wondering what AI is about to do to your career, this conversation will hand you the playbook the wealthy have been quietly running for decades.
This episode I talk a little about Mother's Day before getting into a huge milestone...my older girls officially landed their FIRST summer jobs as lifeguards. Honestly? Elite summer job energy/Big girl energy! While they're training, I become completely distracted by the many alligator warning signs and start overanalyzing the fencing around the water because apparently that's who I am now. Then comes the moment that sends me spiraling.A casual shopping trip to the outlets turns into a random run-in with Houston legend Paul Wall. I literally looked at him and asked, “Excuse me… is your name Paul?” Meanwhile, his grill had already answered for him.

A strange man. A summer job that sounds too easy. A locked shed. A half-built pink concrete house. And three teenage friends who slowly realize they may be helping a killer build something far more horrifying than a home.In this gruesome and darkly funny episode of Weekly Spooky, a group of broke teenagers near Toronto, Ontario are desperate for summer work when they meet Frank Chopski — a bizarre, wild-eyed stranger with a rusty truck, a creepy little pink teddy bear, and an offer that seems impossible to refuse. Ten dollars an hour just to clean old car parts and carry concrete blocks across a field? Easy money. But Frank is secretive about his locked shed. He never lets the boys inside. He guards his tools. He hauls out garbage bags, towels, saws, hatchets, and heavy handmade concrete blocks dyed a strange shade of pink. And as the summer drags on, the friends begin to notice disturbing details embedded inside the blocks they've been carrying by hand. What starts as a weird summer job becomes a horrifying discovery of body horror, serial killer madness, hidden evidence, and a house literally built out of secrets. If you love scary stories about creepy strangers, summer job horror, serial killer fiction, body horror, dark humor, disturbing mysteries, killer next door stories, and gruesome twist endings, this episode is ready to pour the concrete, smooth the edges, and seal something terrible inside forever.Come for the easy money, my spookies… but don't look too closely at the walls.Concrete Evidence — by Gary D up in Ontario, Canada
