Daniel Wohl is a Paris-born, LA-residing, award winning composer who has scored many notable TV shows & films, had his works performed publicly by symphonies and has had his solo albums given high marks and praise from New York Times and Pitchfork alike. He's scored multiple seasons of the hit show Search Party, the Mark Ronson show “Watch the Sound” the Morgan Neville-directed docs “They'll Love Me When I'm Dead” and “Shangri-La” as well as Tales of the Walking Dead, Robert Zemeckis' Project Blue Book and many others. In 2023 he composed the score for the art installation Luna Luna and his score with musician Arooj Aftab for the film Rise, Again is currently touring as part of the Sun Dogs series, performed by Alarm Will Sound. I think the relationship between the editor and composer is the most interesting part of post-production, as well as one that is very overlooked. They're often working off of each other, responding to each other, depending on who started first, or how many rounds of revisions are possible within a given timeline. Both are working with their own rhythms and their own ideas for accenting time. So there's a lot of room for either conflict or magic, depending on how synced the two roles are. I've always wanted to talk to another composer about their experiences and once I met Daniel I knew he was a great person to talk to about this subject. So hopefully this is as enjoyable and enlightening for you as it was for me. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/cuttingclass/support
Another gorgeous day beckons today! Cool (I'm still acclimatizing, ha) temps with a high of -6 in the Alpine are forecast with winds up to 20kmh from the southwest. Will we see Sundogs today as well? You don't know until you go ;)
Well, the Cardinals had their big end-of-season press conference. Bernie and Will go over their (and your) observations ... and say goodbye to the 2024 season. Music as always by the great The Sundogs. Email us at seeingredpod@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter/X at seeingredpod.
Will and Bernie are baffled to learn that the Cardinals are saying they're making big changes ... but bringing the exact people who let things go downhill back to make those changes. What is going on? We try to make sense of it. But it's very, very hard. Music as always by the great The Sundogs. Email us at seeingredpod@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter/X at seeingredpod.
Sometimes you just want to talk about The Jersey Devil, but all of the little details keep getting in the way. This time we are going to scour The Pine Barrens for the secret untold truth of The Garden State's second most famous monster... After Bruce Springsteen, that is. We've got only two weeks left in the season. Bernie Miklasz and Will Leitch ask the big question: How much CAN the Cardinals change in the offseason? On the field? Not a lot, we argue. But off the field? That's the big one. Music as always by the great The Sundogs. Email us at seeingredpod@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter/X at seeingredpod.
Now that this season is (essentially) over, Bernie Miklasz and Will Leitch ask what happens next, and if it will require a housecleaning to get the fans back. The answer is ... probably yes. Lots of empty seats at Busch this week, and the national media noticed. Bernie Miklasz and Will Leitch discuss the moribund Cardinals organization and what might be done, if anything. Then we take a whole bunch of mailbag questions. Labor Day is over, all: Time to get back to work. Music as always by the great The Sundogs. Email us at seeingredpod@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter/X at seeingredpod.
The Cardinals had a 4-2 week but lost Willson Contreras again, which bodes very poorly for the next month. What happens if the Cardinals bottom out? Bernie Miklasz and Will Leitch also contrast the Cardinals and the Padres, and discuss if Mike Shildt is better off having left St. Louis entirely. Music as always by the great The Sundogs. Email us at seeingredpod@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter/X at seeingredpod.
Egads, it got really bad. The Cardinals are in big trouble, and Bernie Miklasz and Will Leitch try to figure what, if anything, can be done. They also go long on fanbase psychology, and what it means to be a Cardinals fan right now. Music as always by the great The Sundogs. Email us at seeingredpod@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter/X at seeingredpod.
The Cardinals currently have a 14 percent chance of making the playoffs? If they fall short--with attendance now about to fall below three million for the season for the first time in nearly two decades--the question has to be asked: Will John Mozeliak fall on his sword if they fall short? Won't he have to? Won't somebody? Bernie Miklasz and Will Leitch try to war game out the scenarios in what sure feels like a very pivotal month-and-a-half in Cardinals history. Music as always by the great The Sundogs. Email us at seeingredpod@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter/X at seeingredpod.
Until about 9:30 Central Time on Thursday, the Cardinals had GREAT vibes. And then it all fell apart during a truly awful weekend in Wrigley. Is there still hope for this team? Can they make a run? When's ownership going to step up? What in the WORLD is up with Goldschmidt and (especially) Arenado? Can Pham save us? Bernie Miklasz and Will Leitch discuss! Music as always by the great The Sundogs. Email us at seeingredpod@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter/X at seeingredpod.
The Cardinals made a big trade! Our special post-deadline show looks at the Cardinals' trade for Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham, who had an explosive debut. And we say goodbye to Tommy Edman and Dylan Carlson. Music as always by the great The Sundogs. Email us at seeingredpod@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter/X at seeingredpod.
A rough week for the Cardinals leads to an uncertain place at the trade deadline. We discuss what the Cardinals should do. We're also doing a special post-deadline show on Wednesday, so come back for that one, we love you. Music as always by the great The Sundogs. Email us at seeingredpod@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter/X at seeingredpod.
The Cardinals won two out of three against the Braves and scored a whole bunch of runs doing it, led by Alec Burleson. How encouraged should we be? Should we worry about Sonny Gray? What about Paul Goldschmidt batting seventh? As always: Lots to discuss! Music as always by the great The Sundogs. Email us at seeingredpod@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter/X at seeingredpod.
Halos arise from sunlight refraction through microscopic ice crystals, usually aloft in cirrus clouds.
It's the All-Star Break! We evaluate where the Cardinals are at the break, and try to urge the front office to show more urgency than they have traditionally been comfortable with. Will also reflects on a great doubleheader sweep he got to see in person. (It's always great to smoke the Cubs.) Music as always by the great The Sundogs. In this episode of Backstage Sonoma, host Steve Roby is joined by Tom Rigney, a renowned fiddler, composer, and Bay Area music legend. He shares intriguing anecdotes, such as how he started playing with Queen Ida and her Bon Temps Zydeco Band, which set the stage for his future endeavors in Cajun and Zydeco music. The interview concludes with a discussion of Rigney's recent European tour and his plans for future performances. Labrador Morning from CBC Radio Nfld. and Labrador (Highlights)
We hear about the collective glint caused by veils of ice crystals in the sky... and we learn how those ice crystals can form sun dogs, light pillars, and other atmospheric illusions. It sounds pretty mystical... but it's all grounded in science!
We are always looking for signs. Signs that validate us, encourage us, Signs that might point us in a direction or reassure us that we are on a correct path. We look for signs from our loved ones in feathers, pennies and dimes and birds, butterflies and dragon flies, but what about a sundog? You've probably seen a sundog before. These beautiful phenomena can occur in any part of the world, and they're almost guaranteed to make you look twice. Sundogs are bright spots of light around the sun, manifesting in a variety of colors and forms. They are widely recognized as a good omen, and hold great spiritual meaning for anyone who witnesses them. What is a Sundog and what might it mean. Listen as Laurie shares some science, and spiritual meanings behind the sundog. Since the beginning of recorded time people have seen things in the sky that the could not readily identify. Weird atmospheric phenomenon, birds, meteors, sun dogs, and glories have mystified people since our beginnings. However, more recently people have begun to wonder if any of these strange objects are extra-terrestrial craft. We discuss the phenomenon of UFOs from mentions of crosses in the sky over a thousand years ago to claims of abduction today.

We have had a few days this winter when the sundogs have been quite prominent in the morning and evening sky. Although not rainbows, the basic principles are similar. The scientific name for sundogs is parihelia (singular parahelion). They often appear during cold winter days when ice crystals are abundant in the atmosphere and the sun is low in the sky.
