The fellas go all in on Narrative. Ground covered includes buzzword overuse in everyday life, the devaluation of overworked language, the double edged sword of repetition, the mainstreaming of storytelling jargon and formulas, Jamal's sexy underwear, the stories we tell in how we present ourselves, inside jokes as a form of layered narrative, everyone being the hero of their own story, inclusion/exclusion in narrative (IYKYK), the danger of weighting all information as equal, cherrypicking a narrative before having all the information, untrustworthy narrators, Dragon's Lair, the Venn diagram formed by overlapping lives/narratives, Disney Princesses and, of course, a 6'8” Tom Cruse.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/barflysbflies)
It's Patriotic films this week. Adam has one question, "Is one of these really a patriotic movie?". "1776" (1:35) definitely fits into that category. A retelling of the month leading up the Declaration of Independence. Both Matt and Adam liked the dialog, but felt most of the songs were less than memorable. "Born on the Fourth of July" (31:56) was the second of Oliver Stone's Viet Nam Trilogy and it does not disappoint. Adam liked it more than Matt (Platoon fan), but both felt it was a "tour de force" for lead actor Tom Cruse. #patrioticmovies #patriotism #USA #4thofJuly #1776 #tomcruise #revolutionmovies #revolutionNext, Revolution is in the air with "If" (1968) and Woody Allen's "Bananas" (1971).Thanks for listening!Have your own recommendations?
