«ICH HABE EINFACH GEMACHT» Ein spezieller Gast und ein besonderes Thema: Mit Hans Peter Danuser (76) habe ich über einen magischen Ort, St. Moritz im Engadin, gesprochen. Hans Peter Danuser, von 1978 bis 2008 Kurdirektor, hat St. Moritz geprägt und positioniert, den unschlagbaren Claim «St. Moritz – top of the world» etabliert und insbesondere auch die Sommersportarten gefördert. Heute ist St. Moritz auf 1'856 m über dem Meer ein internationales Trainingszentrum für fast alle Sportarten, insbesondere für Ausdauersportler wie Triathleten, die vom leistungssteigernden Höheneffekt profitieren. Der örtliche Triathlon Club heisst gar «Home of Triathlon». On this episode we meet Amy Tingay. Amy is a 42 year old runner and triathlete living in England. She lost over 10 stone (140 pounds) between 2014 and 2018, pausing in 2016 to have her daughter. After the weight loss, Amy felt healthier but still unfit so she started exercising doing various different home workouts. She started running in December 2018 at a weekly Parkrun event, this quickly grew and Amy completed her first race, a half marathon, in September 2019. To date, she has completed 13 half marathons and started training for triathlon in 2021 with my local Triathlon Club. Amy joined Team Varlo in 2022 and have learned so much from her fellow athletes in both the club and the team. She completed her first sprint triathlon in May 2022. Amy has now completed 6 sprint triathlons and plans to increase the distance slowly over the next few years. Listening to Cesar Argueta Jr. and Michelle Mendoza of TriLatino Triathlon Club, you can't help but be just as passionate as they are in their efforts to create access to the triathlon disciplines. We know that financial barriers can limit access to sports, but TriLatino is unfazed at the prospect of helping their members excel at running, biking and swimming. Their Bronx, New York-based nonprofit was founded in 2009, and the mission to bring minorities into triathlons is stronger than never. The Covid pandemic has exposed the lack of resources in many communities, and at a time when mental health is finally grabbing headlines, the importance of physical activity for all is a life changer for individuals, families and communities.

On Episode 7 we chat to Lee Ross, a ridiculously sporty childhood, reaching the level of a semi pro footballer only to have his sporting world brought to an abrupt halt after suffering a broken back following a car crash. The injuries Lee suffered caused too much pain for him to continue sport, so he threw himself into his role as a sales person, driven to use his competitive streak in another direction Lee drove himself into the ground working 70 hour weeks and finally to burn out. what Lee calls a normal life working hard and partying hard saw him balloon to 18 and half stone. After a second honeymoon, Lee quit his job and started walking his dog and losing weight. Lee started park running and set a goal of a half marathon only to be struck down with injury in the final mile. Being told not to run for a few months, Lee turned to swimming and biking and finally joined his local Triathlon Club. Once back running Lee set out the goal to gain qualification as an Agegroup Athlete.

Today’s guest is Canadian Professional Triathlete; Jackson Laundry. Now I am excited to talk to Jackson today for so many reasons. First off, he’s a fellow Canadian in Ontario where I am from so I see him on the podium at the odd local race and he's an absolutely phenomenal triathlete. Secondly, he is a STAC Performance athlete which is obviously very fitting for this Podcast, as we are big fans of STAC Performance and their indoor bike trainers on this podcast. Surprisingly enough he also rocks a Blue Seventy wetsuit which is awesome because again, like STAC; we are big Blue Seventy supporters! He also is a member of the LPC triathlon club which is the 2nd triathlete from the LPC team on the show and he’s also the 2nd of the pro’s that come out of Guelph to be on the show; and as you’ll hear in the episode; Guelph seems to be Ontario’s mecca city for top performing triathletes as of late! Today’s podcast we will get to hear from him all about his training and racing with the guys from Guelph and the LPC Team and how training in numbers can be beneficial, and we also talk about how he’s dialed in his aerodynamics in cycling by using the STAC Performance Virtual Wind Tunnel! Jackson gives us a ton of takeaways when it comes to training so definitely be sure to grab a pen and paper, and enjoy the episode!
Welcome Welcome to Episode #173 of the Mile High Endurance podcast. Mile High Endurance is your weekly connection to coaches, experts and pro athletes to help you reach your endurance and triathlon goals. We're your hosts coach Rich Soares and 303 Chief Bill Plock. Thanks for joining us for another week of endurance interviews and discussion. Endure: to suffer something difficult or unpleasant in a patient way over a long period. Today we have an incredible interview with author Alex Hutchinson and we are exploring his NY Times bestseller "Endure: Mind, Body and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Potential". We've been teasing content from the book for weeks and this week you get to hear directly from Alex as he pulls threads through hundreds of interviews and research studies on various aspects of endurance. We hope you enjoyed last week's interview with professional triathlete, Sam Long. We recorded the show prior to Oceanside 70.3 and eagerly anticipated his result. If you followed it you already know that he DNFd. I saw his Instragram live after the race. From what he described, it sounded like he was pretty close to the front of the pack through the bike leg. He described getting a bum steer from a volunteer and lost a little more than 5 minutes. He tried to stay positive and focused on the run, but couldn't shake the mistake and the loss of time and ultimately decided to pull out. We will have to wait until St. George 70.3 to see how Sam fairs. Announcements: As you listen to today's show, you'll hear about a lot of article and content with links to sources. It's easy. Go to MileHighEndurance.com, click on the "subscribe" button, and you will get the newsletter with show notes and all the links and articles sent to you automatically every week. The new gear shipped on April 4th. Thank you for the DMs and pics of you in your gear. You all look awesome and fast! The feedback is that the gear fits perfectly, is great quality and really comfortable. Alex Hutchinson Interview Discussion If you live in the Denver/Boulder area, you are in for a encore. Alex Hutchinson will be in Denver on May 1st presenting to the Rocky Mountain Tri Club at West High School. I am going to have my copy of the book autographed. Hope to see you there. It's no wonder that teams like Zoot are choosing to have their athletes read this book as a part of their virtual book club, or that Triathlon Club's like RMTC are booking events with Alex Hutchinson. This book has the most dense collection of studies related to endurance that I've been able to find. Among the things that I learned was that according to Alex, Halo has in the pipeline a shoulder electrode to make their device even more effective. I'm looking into that and will let you know what we learn. One of the studies that I found most interesting and intriguing was the Red Bull Endurance Project.
