Une Femme Wines didn't scale the way most wine brands do — and that's exactly why its story matters. What began as the house wine at Jen Pelka's two Champagne bars — The Riddler in San Francisco and New York — has scaled into a national brand selling more than 300,000 cases annually, with wines poured everywhere from Delta Airlines to Marriott, Kimpton, stadiums, cruise lines, and even space. In this episode, Jen breaks down how Une Femme unlocked scale by saying yes to the right opportunities — and then rebuilding the business to support them. The turning point came when a chance meeting led to a Delta Airlines trial that required Une Femme to ramp from 1,500 cases over two years to 6,000 cases in three months, a feat that seemed impossible at the time. But they persevered and that single partnership didn't just change volume — it reshaped the company's format strategy, pushing the brand into cans for sustainability, operational efficiency, and national reach. From there, Une Femme scaled differently than most wine brands: Prioritizing national accounts and high-velocity venues over slow regional rollouts, and focusing relentlessly on freshness, tight SKUs, and operational reliability.

Is EQ more important than IQ when it comes to hospitality?Today, Manish Puri, General Manager of the Regent Hotels and Resorts Bali, joins Dan to dive into key topics in the industry, such as sustainability, community, and leadership. They discuss the essence of hospitality, differentiating it from mere service, and delve into the concept of regenerative hospitality and sustainability. Manish shares insights from his career at prestigious hotel brands like Oberoi, Burj Al Arab, Six Senses, and Regent Bali. They explore how sustainability initiatives can transform the industry, turning cost centers into investment centers, and the importance of heartfelt service. The conversation also covers the challenges of opening and managing new hotels and the impact of leadership and open-heartedness in inspiring younger generations in the hospitality industry.Takeaways: Embrace regenerative practices by viewing waste as an opportunity to create value, turning sustainability efforts into investments rather than costs.Lead by example and integrity. Your actions are always being observed, so inspire others by consistently doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.Pay attention to the small details in your work. Excellence is built on thousands of thoughtful, consistent actions rather than a single grand gesture.Foster a culture of genuine care and positivity. Small acts of kindness and authentic smiles can create a powerful ripple effect throughout your organization.Design guest programs that encourage visitors to give back to the local community, such as volunteering or sharing their expertise, creating a positive impact beyond their stay.Treat sustainability initiatives as opportunities for investment and growth, not just as expenses. Find ways to turn environmental responsibility into tangible value.Quote of the Show:“ A luxury brand has to have that caring side of it. Caring for the environment, caring for all stakeholders, caring for the community. Without it, you are not a complete hotel.” - Manish PuriLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/manish-puri-36241231/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/manpuri/ Website: https://www.ihg.com/regent/hotels/us/en/reservation Shout Outs:1:15 - Oberoi Hotels and Resorts https://www.oberoihotels.com/ 1:16 - Burj Al Arab https://www.jumeirah.com/en/Stay/Dubai/Burj-Al-Arab-Jumeirah 1:17 - Potato Head https://seminyak.potatohead.co/ 1:22 - Six Senses https://www.sixsenses.com/en/ 2:28 - IHG https://www.ihg.com/hotels/us/en/reservation 2:30 - Kimpton https://www.ihg.com/kimptonhotels/hotels/us/en/reservation 2:33 - Intercontinental https://www.ihg.com/intercontinental/hotels/us/en/reservation 5:10 - Beverly Wilshire https://www.fourseasons.com/beverlywilshire/ 5:12 - Pretty Woman https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretty_Woman 5:48 - Four Seasons https://www.fourseasons.com/ 5:49 - Jim Brown https://www.linkedin.com/in/jim-brown-718240a/ 22:42 - TripAdvisor https://www.tripadvisor.com/ 28:45 - Tom Cruise https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Cruise 28:52 - Grand Hyatt https://www.hyatt.com/grand-hyatt/en-US 28: 53 - Kempinski Palace https://www.kempinski.com/en/palace-portoroz 29:02 - University of Oxford https://www.ox.ac.uk/ 29:02 - Cornell University https://www.cornell.edu/

In this episode, we're diving deep into IHG One Rewards—a hotel program that often flies under the radar but has serious potential. From practical Holiday Inns to luxury Kimptons and InterContinentals, we're sharing our experiences using IHG points and free-night awards, how we earn them, and why buying IHG points (yes, buying!) can actually be a smart move. What Even Is IHG? Before diving into points and miles, most of us didn't even know IHG was the brand behind properties like Holiday Inn, Candlewood Suites, Kimpton, Hotel Indigo, and InterContinental. Jess shares how she earned free IHG stays back in the day by mailing in 90 index cards, and Pam tells how she thought Crowne Plazas were the height of luxury before she knew the full IHG lineup. IHG Credit Cards: What to Know Alex breaks down the three different IHG credit card options and how their benefits stack up so you can decide which one might work best for you. She also outlines two of the unique benefits that make two of these cards a great deal: getting a fourth night free on award stays and earning free-night certificates you can top up. Buying IHG Points Can Actually Make Sense Pam shares why she regularly buys IHG points—especially during 100% bonus sales—for heavily discounted stays at high-end IHG properties. She calls it a “no-brainer,” and Jess agrees—IHG is one of the only programs where buying points often makes sense. Where We've Used IHG Points and Awards From a Kimpton in Barcelona, to airport Holiday Inns, to a Crowne Plaza in Bruges, we share how we've stretched our points and free-night certificates. Today on the Invest In Her Podcast, host Catherine Gray talks with Jane Ubell-Meyer, a former TV and film producer turned entrepreneur and founder of Bedside Reading. With an impressive career producing for major networks like GMA, Entertainment Tonight, and WSJ-TV, as well as films like Leona Helmsley: The Queen of Mean, Jane transitioned her creative talents into the hospitality space. Eight years ago, she launched Bedside Reading—a literary amenity placing books in luxury hotels such as the Waldorf Astoria, Fairmont, Conrad, Taj, and Kimpton. The program has since expanded to include audiobooks, eBooks, meditations, author podcasts, and magazines. Jane is also the author of the Amazon #1 Bestseller From Wanting to Having It: A Guide to Manifesting Anything, and is set to debut the Bedside Reading Audiobook Collection on April 8th. In this vibrant conversation, Catherine and Jane dive into the evolution of Bedside Reading and how Jane carved a unique niche at the intersection of publishing, wellness, and luxury hospitality. Jane shares her journey from Hollywood to entrepreneurship, how she curates content that enhances hotel guest experiences, and her passion for helping authors get discovered in innovative ways. The episode also touches on the powerful manifestation practices that inspired her book and how she's using those same principles to expand her brand even further. Entrepreneurs, authors, and wellness seekers alike will find plenty of inspiration and practical advice in this engaging episode. —----------------- Note from Jane Ubell-Meyer: For every membership purchased, we will donate a membership to a charity for the blind to help their people! WHY am I doing this? My dad's best friend, Roger, experienced two separate incidents where the retina of his eye(s) detached. He went 100% blind in his 70's. The Lighthouse Guild in NYC helped him cope with life after this tragedy. My dad took him there every single day. I was always amazed at how he helped so many people—I thought audiobooks were an excellent gift for these people. Rick and I are reaching out to charities for the blind across the USA to offer a free membership for every membership purchased. Episode Highlights: Most airlines have pet policies that you should review before booking To travel in the cabin, the pet needs to fit in a carrier that goes under the seat The weight limit is generally 20-25 lbs (although Spirit is higher) You need to call the airline in advance to let them know you are bringing a dog on board as there is a limit to how many can go onboard You don't need to pay for a ticket but you do need to pay a pet fee (typically around $150 each way) According to the FAA, unless you have a true service pet, the pet must stay in the carrier for the duration of the flight Some flight attendants look the other way and you can take the carrier out from under the seat so the pet can see you but technically you can't even unzip the carrier Your pet carrier counts as your personal item so it helps to have a carrier with side pockets for things you need on the plane Aisle seats don't have as much space under the seat in front of you for a carrier. The middle seat has the most space In the airport, the dogs don't always want to use the pet relief area because it smells and is unusual In the airport, dogs should be in carriers but not many people are policing that because service dogs are allowed to be out To go through security, they come out of the carrier and you can walk through the metal detector but you need to take off the collar so they need to behave to not run away and walk through if they are too big to carry Bring along a small water dish, water, and a few treats Jessica recommends layering a potty pad in the bottom of the carrier under a blanket so it is easier to clean if there is an accident Otherwise, you need to potty pad train them before travel Don't feed them right before a flight. Usually, the last meal should be 2-3 hours before travel To find pet-friendly hotels, use bringfido.com Hotels usually have a pet fee, which is typically around $20 per dog per night, but it can also be extremely high Red Roof, Motel 6, Kimpton, and Virgin Hotels generally are pet-friendly without a pet fee but they are franchises and still can charge a fee There is usually a limit of two dogs per room and a combined weight limit of about 150 lbs. Some boutique hotels allow you to bring more than two dogs For international travel, you can get a pet passport for EU countries For Canada, you can drive across the border with your pets The United States changed requirements for dogs coming into the country (even by car) that dogs need to be at least 6 months old, they have to have internationally recognized microchips, and have vaccinations up to date particularly a recent rabies vaccine and health paperwork You need to fill out a CDC import form Some destinations have strict quarantine rules (especially Hawaii and other islands) of 10-30 days Visit AdventuresCats.org to learn more about traveling with cats. Note that many hotels don't allow cats. Tamara recommends TrustedHousesitters.com for free pet and house sitting from vetted sitters. Use her referral link for 25% off a membership!

As I settled in for my latest culinary adventure, the "Chef AF" podcast with the incomparable Chef Eric Brownlee of Kimpton The Forum Hotel was my guide. It wasn't just another interview—it was a journey through the taste-laden pathways of Charlottesville, Virginia, led by a chef whose roots in sustainable cooking run as deep as the soil on his grandfather's cattle farm.Raised with the earthy aroma of Pennsylvania farmlands, Chef Eric's culinary narrative began amidst the beef cattle of his childhood, instilling in him an ethos of sustainability long before it was a culinary catchphrase. Over 15 years ago, a pivotal moment came with Michael Pollan's "The Omnivore's Dilemma," deeply engraving his commitment to ethical sourcing. At Birch & Bloom, the heartbeat of the hotel's dining experience, Chef Eric's menus dance to the rhythm of the seasons. "It's not just about crafting a menu," Eric shared, "it's a dedication to the narrative of every ingredient." His collaboration with local growers and butchers ensures that each dish sings with the freshest, most genuine flavors of the region. And when the climate throws a curveball? He adapts with a creativity as vibrant as the changing seasons—like pickling summer peaches to capture their essence. In the hustle of The Good Sport, Eric's playfulness spills into each dish. The menu is a homage to classic comforts with a twist—think Nashville Hot Oysters or Wagyu Brisket Sliders that harmonize with the local craft beer selection. "Here, we strip back the pretension without stripping the flavor," he says. What resonates most about Chef Eric is his unwavering connection to the land and his inventive spirit, nurtured during his time at Johnson & Wales in Charleston. Whether it's a health-forward, vegetable-driven plate at Birch & Bloom or a casual, yet intentional bite at The Good Sport, Eric's culinary vision is a testament to his philosophy: food should echo the environment it comes from and the moment it's enjoyed. His vision for the future is as fresh as his ingredients. Imagine a pop-up farmers market set amidst the hotel's sprawling arboretum, where guests can interact with the very farmers who nurture the produce, accompanied by live cooking stations. "It's about creating a full-circle experience for our guests," Chef Eric explains, eager to bridge the gap between farm and fork. So, whether you're a food enthusiast or a culinary novice, Chef Eric Brownlee's philosophy is a reminder of the beauty in every bite. His journey—one of continuous evolution—invites us to ponder, what will be on the plate tomorrow? Only the seasons, the land, and the chef's ever-evolving creativity will tell. Stay tuned, Charlottesville; the best, it seems, is yet to come.
A new opening sets the tone for a hotel's success for years to come - so what does it take to do it right?I can't think of someone better to answer this question than Jorge Treviño, who, in his first role dedicated to this, opened up 44 hotels for Kimpton - before opening countless others as executive vice president at Two Roads Hospitality, and his most recent role as Senior Vice President of Openings and Operations for Hyatt. In this episode, we cover everything from what's at stake during the opening to what he learned about opening hotels for Bill Kimpton to best practices anyone can use during this process. Even if you're not opening a new property now, I learned a ton about providing hospitality well in this episode that I think you'll enjoy.Follow Jorge on LinkedInWhat did you think about this episode?
