Have you ever stood at the edge of the ocean and been struck by its vastness—its depth? That sense of something greater calling to us? Today, Alan Fadling invites us into a reflection on the spiritual hunger so many of us carry: a longing not just to know about God, but to be deeply rooted in God. In this episode, Alan explores what it means to cultivate a life of soul-depth, spiritual depth, and heart depth. Drawing from his book An Unhurried Life, the writings of J.I. Packer and Hans Urs von Balthasar, and his own pastoral journey, Alan encourages us to move beyond surface-level faith toward a life shaped by love, receptivity, and transformation.
We typically move at a breakneck speed—but is faster always the best option? On Walking Worthy, Julie Busteed and Lauren Stibgen talk about what it means to live an unhurried life. They discuss the book, An Unhurried Life by Alan Fadling, and their thoughts about the book. They also talk about: The importance of abiding with God in quiet moments. How The Christian Working Woman mission aligns. What happens when we are hurried. How working women can put boundaries in place to protect the Sabbath. Examples of how Jesus rested and the story of the Good Samaritan. Clear signs that point to the need to pause and the unexpected unhurried. How to live an unhurried life. John 11:1-6 // Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.) 3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” 4 When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it.” 5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days Luke 19:5 // “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, 34 who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.”

Matthew 11:28-30Louis Tamburro We're starting a new 5 week teaching series we're calling The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, and it's about how to have peace in a world of hurry. We need to learn from the life of Jesus, to live an unhurried life like Jesus. The burdens of life are way too heavy for us to carry on our own. The good news is we don't have to carry them on our own, because Jesus offers to carry them with us if we yoke our lives to him, and slow down enough to learn from him.
In my book, An Unhurried Life, I wrote a chapter titled “Productivity: Unhurried Isn't Lazy,” in part, to speak to our tendency to assume that productivity is always about doing more and more and more. But what if true productivity is, at least in part, about doing qualitatively better work, even if it seems less busy than before? There is a cultural bias for always staying busy. I'm sharing the last of three episodes about sources of hurry in our lives. In the first two, I talked about how anxiety and insecurity are significant contributors, motors, or even viruses for hurry in our lives. Today, I'll talk about overwork as a third virus of hurry that is epidemic in our current context. ____________________________________________________Connect with Alan on LinkedIn or learn more about Unhurried Living programs on their website. Bonjour! Stephanie here. How do we overcome anxiety, and embrace peace? More than ever, our daily life seems to fight us on this quest. Do you, like so many of us, see anxiety as an incentive to perform? Or a proof of how much you care? Or is anxiety simply an unwelcome shadow over your days, bringing with it clenched teeth and an upset stomach? Today is an invitation to step into a life characterized by peace, grace, and gentleness, replete with the palpable presence of God. God promises us that it is ours in Christ Jesus. The world does it best to make it impossible. So, which one will it be? Anxiety leads us to succumb to fear and fight peace. Anxious living is a distortion of good motives, blocking the clarity of stillness and rest. Peace is the antidote to anxiety. This peace is found in practicing God's presence and embodying the virtues of grace, found in Christ. But, what does it look like, and how do we get there? This week I welcome Alan Fadling back on the show to dive into a real and raw conversation about overcoming anxiety and finding peace. Alan has felt mastered by worry, but he brings counsel on how to learn a better way and who to look to for it: Jesus, "the ultimate non-anxious presence." He constructs a posture from which we can rest more deeply, live more fully, and lead better. Fixing our minds on grace and eternity, we can begin to see the benefit of loosening our grip and operating from a sure foundation. Alan candidly shares his personal journey, highlighting how anxiety, coupled with perfectionism, led to a cycle of high standards, achievements, and ultimately, dissatisfaction and discouragement. His honest portrayal of himself as a "recovering perfectionist" resonated deeply with me – and I suspect I am not the only one! Alan's emphasis on progress over perfection reminds us that growth is a journey, not a destination. This is a deeply biblical message that our culture has us forget all too easily. And so we find that grace, with its essence of unmerited favor and unconditional love found in Christ, becomes a transformative force, offering solace and redemption in the face of anxiety. This is one of the key messages of Scripture. Alan also shares with us the practice of embodying God's presence and cultivating "little virtues" such as humility, patience, gentleness, dependence, and surrender. He tells us about learning patience in the chaos of Southern California traffic, reminding us that it's the simple things that steer us towards a peaceful life, even when the world seems to have gone upside down. This underscores the significance of relinquishing the incessant pursuit of materialistic and ambitious goals in favor of humility and grace. Scripture makes clear the importance of faith, imagination, and embracing an "unhurried influence." Rattling through life at top speed isn't the secret to peace. Alan's prayer for the audience to grow in unhurried influence is an open invitation to take the scenic route, savouring the moments, and stepping into a life ruled by peace, grace, and gentleness. So, as you sail away from this episode, remember - peace isn't found in the rush-rush of everyday life, but in the sweet, steady rhythm of grace in Christ Jesus. I've written and said plenty about the problem of hurry in our lives and in our world. There is a condition called hurry sickness, which is the feeling of always being rushed as though you were lagging behind in some race. This raises our stress levels. A sense that we don't have enough time for everything we have to do is a sign of hurry sickness. We can end up feeling increasing frustration with anyone or anything that gets in the way of what you have to do. Multitasking is one of our strategies to somehow boost productivity, at least in the short-term. But the long-term costs can be pretty high for our present hurry. In this episode and a couple of future ones this season, I'm going to talk about core drivers of hurry that I've been addressing in my own life since I wrote An Unhurried Life. Today, in the spirit of my new book A Non-Anxious Life, I'll unpack how anxiety drives hurry in our lives. ____________________________________________________Connect with Alan on LinkedIn or learn more about Unhurried Living programs on their website. The Unhurried Life
"With the overwhelming pace of life, many of us struggle to stop long enough to be present. Our long to-do lists and full calendars leave little breathing room to hear from God. We know we need to slow down but we don't even know how to begin."Today's guest, Alan Fadling, has spent years coaching leaders and communities on how to live an unhurried life, teaching that productivity and success are not our chief end, but rather living at the pace that our true self longs to live. In this episode, Alan shares how we can train to be unhurried and when we do, we begin to see what matters to God. Alan asks an important question, "To what degree am I letting my life be shaped by the values of Jesus and to what degree am I letting it be shaped by the culture around me?" My first book, An Unhurried Life, which was published over ten years ago, had this as it's subtitle: “Following Jesus' Rhythms of Work and Rest.” Knowing what I know now about our great cultural struggle to rest well, I might have changed that to: “Following Jesus' Rhythms of Rest and Work. It's not that rest is more important than work. It's that real rest is so neglected these days. And many of us are feeling our need for real rest more today than perhaps we ever have. Getting better sleep, setting aside a day a week not measured by productivity or accomplishment, even guarding some weeks each year to really rest is something most of us still struggle to do. Today, I'll share seven reasons we don't rest well. They aren't theoretical for me. They are reasons I've struggled with entering into the gift of rest that God has always been offering me. I hope some of these will ring true to you as well, and just might help you move through some of these resistances, misbeliefs and challenges to a place of deeper rest of body and soul with God. _________________________________________________________Connect with Alan on LinkedIn or learn more about Unhurried Living programs on their website.
Her Unapologetic Life Podcast with Mercedes | Intuitive Life Coaching for Women
You might be wondering how the word “peaceful” and “productivity” can actually go together? Awhile back, I was having lunch with a client and she coined the term “peaceful productivity” when talking about what she was really wanting in the next season - and for her life in general tbh. We sat with that a little that day, and from there, Mercedes has spent more time talking with her clients and her friend about what that can even mean. Peaceful Productivity is the theme inside her membership, The Unhurried Life (wow- that really is congruent…) and she is here today to elaborate for them. And for you. What Peaceful Productivity is, and why the heck would you even want to go for it? ---- Need support? https://mercedessaurbaughcoaching.as.me/complimentaryconsult Her Unapologetic Life on Facebook --> https://www.facebook.com/groups/herunapologeticlife Interested in The Unhurried Life Membership?
