Led by Gregg Popovich, the Spurs set incredibly high standards, very often surpassed those, and set new, more ambitious standards. They drafted five Hall of Fame basketball players, won Championships in three different decades, and set countless records across an unprecedented run from 1989-2018. As their competition fell, history became the greatest adversary the Spurs faced, and like all great dynasties of history, they eventually fell too. When the Spurs Dynasty fell, it was one of the most bizarre stories in the 75-year history of professional basketball. Selma Dabbagh is a British-Palestinian writer and the editor of the 2021 anthology “We Wrote in Symbols: Love and Lust by Arab Women Writers.” Through poetry and short stories, novel excerpts and letters, the collection pulls from more than 1,000 years of Arab women's writing — from pre-Islamic poetry to contemporary fiction. “There seemed to be something so modern and pithy and frank and refreshing about their voices,” Dabbagh tells New Lines' Lydia Wilson in the first episode of the magazine's new podcast, “The Lede.” “My interest was really in looking at how these voices had changed over time.” They talk about the difficulty of writing about love and intimacy, Orientalism and the male gaze, as well as why Arab women writers are expected to be “political.” Produced by Joshua Martin & Christin El Kholy

We Wrote in Symbols isthe first anthology to feature writing by Arab women on lust, love and the erotic.spanning 3000 years, it includes the works of classical authors, award-winning contemporary authors and emerging writers, published in English for the first time.It is a little-known secret that Arabic literature has a long tradition of erotic writing. Behind that secret lies another – that many of the writers are women.We Wrote in Symbols celebrates the works of 75 of these female writers of Arab heritage who articulate love and lust with artistry and skill. Here, a wedding night takes an unexpected turn beneath a canopy of stars; a woman on the run meets her match in a flirtatious encounter at Dubai Airport; and a carnal awakening occurs in a Palestinian refugee camp. From a masked rendezvous in a circus, to meetings in underground bars and unmade beds, there is no such thing as a typical sexual encounter, as this electrifying anthology shows.

We Wrote in Symbols: Love and Lust by Arab Women Writers brings together fiction and poetry by more than 70 women over a span of more than 1500 years. Editor Selma Dabbagh talks about why it's hard to write about sex, and the difficult balance of reaching readers. Show Notes:  The digital launch of We Wrote in Symbols, published by Saqi Books, is scheduled for April 29, hosted by the Arab British Centre. Hanan al-Shaykh, Yasmine Seale, Saida Rouass, lisa luxx, and collection editor Selma Dabbagh will be there. There will also be a workshop launch with Marina Warner, Wen-chin Ouyang, and Emily Selove at Birbeck in June, as part of their Arabic in Translation series. The collection drew classic works from, among other places, two anthologies: Classical Poems by Arab Women: A Bilingual Anthology, edited and translated by Abdullah al Udhari, and The Poetry of Arab Women from the Pre-Islamic Age to Andalusia, edited and translated by Wessam Elmeligi. Shereen El Feki's Sex and the Citadel: Intimate Life in a Changing Arab World was published in 2013. Leila Slimani's Sex and Lies: True Stories of Women's Intimate Lives in the Arab World was translated by Sophie Lewis and came out last year. Lina Mounzer's “Going Beyond the Veil” talks about navigating the rocky territory of writing about sex as an Arab woman.

I Hope Your sitting Comfortably, For this tale can go many different ways..   Welcome to the Penance Halloween Project 2018 – We Wrote a tale, based on our love on horror and storytelling, and We Opened it up to those of you out there who were brave enough to take up this quest…    13 Podcasts accepted our challenge, in one way or another.. 10 Episodes Were Recorded, All Totally Different from each other And While the Story stayed the same, the methods became abstract Between Those who want the finest Details.. And those who's patience sorely Lacked So Let us Open the Dungeon with this Tale of a Missing Merchant’s Son Who will survive and What will become of them for now the Games have Begun… This Episode was the Pilot Episode, The Story was in its "written but not tested" stage and many elements of the story were tightened or changed following this pilot episode to make them better before the other groups ran the tale.  There were also several instances where the groups excitability caused them to talk ontop of each other, or Belry to play with his microphone connection (causing crackling noises),  We apologise for any annoyance this causes.  So Who was part of the Pilot?
