Keir Starmer has returned from his whirlwind meeting with Donald Trump in Washington DC, and it seems as though the trip was at least a partial success for the PM. Some papers have even gone so far as to describe a new political bromance...Trump cautiously backed the Chagos plan and suggested the UK could avoid tariffs, although there was less clarity on security guarantees for Ukraine. In the room as it all unfolded was Telegraph political editor Ben Riley-Smith, who got off the Prime Minister's plane and straight into the Daily T studio to bring us up to speed. Also in the studio is new Daily T co-host Cleo Watson, who advised Theresa May and Boris Johnson and helped both prepare for meetings with Trump, and Sir Simon Fraser, a former diplomat who has worked behind the scenes on countless leaders' summits.Read: Trump gives verdict on Starmer after PM's five-month campaign to woo himOur political editor Ben Riley Smith's full coverage of the Trump-Starmer meetingProducer: Lilian FawcettSenior Producer: John CadiganPlanning Editor: Venetia RaineyExecutive Producer: Louisa WellsSocial Media Producer: Rachel DuffyVideo Editor: Andy MackenzieEditor: Camilla TomineyOriginal music by Goss Studio Hosted on Acast. When Hamilton premiered off-Broadway on February 17, 2015, it created an instant sensation, making American history genuinely exciting for modern audiences, and transforming Broadway with his color-blind casting. Creator Lin-Manuel Miranda built on the blending of hip-hop and traditional Broadway musical styles that he brought to bear on In the Heights to tell the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and the birth of our nation. The show was nominated for 16 Tony Awards, winning 11 of them including Best Musical, and won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama; its original Broadway cast recording peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and reached No. 1 on the Billboard rap albums chart. Now, 10 years after its debut, the Great Pop Culture Debate wants to back to the room where it happened as we determine the Best Hamilton Song. Songs discussed include: “Satisfied,” “It's Quiet Uptown,” “Dear Theodosia,” “Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story,” “Alexander Hamilton,” “Wait For It,” “What'd I Miss?” “You'll Be Back,” “Burn,” “Non Stop,” “Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down),” “Helpless,” “The Schuyler Sisters,” “One Last Time,” “The Room Where It Happened,” “My Shot.” Join host Eric Rezsnyak, GPCD panelists Gary Jackson and Joelle Boedecker, and Patreon sponsor Kathy Kingsley as they discuss 16 of the most beloved songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton. Jane Buchan is CEO of Martlet Asset Management, based in Newport Beach CA. She was one of the co-founders of Pacific Alternative Asset Management in 2000, which grew to $32 bn n AUM under her leadership. She was been a chair of the Board of CAIA as well as an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and has a number of Board roles. Jane's career straddles academic life and an entrepreneurial and business one, and she describes how her time as a professor taught her to be comfortable being an outsider, and confident in challenging the status quo. We follow her into consulting and then into striking out boldly to service a select group of large institutions - the genesis of what became PAAMCO. The unique structure and approach taken by PAAMCO led it to stand apart from peers, and we discuss some birthing pains that launching a new approach entailed. Moving to her current portfolio of roles, we examine the growth of group think in governance structures, and how developing a voice should be approached. We move then to topics of leadership, decision making and mentorship. Overall this is a richly layered conversation from one of the founders of the approach to hedge funds as we know it among institutions today. When we saw this on Disney+ we just knew it was something we needed to see LIVE, on stage. It finally happened. Glad to have GMG productions bring it to us here in Manila. And so we talk about the songs and themes we loved about the musicale, as well as what warrants a live a show when you could just see it on screen anyway. By the end of the podcast, we contemplate on the whole "Who lives, who dies, who tells my story?" Do we actually want our stories to be told? Listen to our answers and maybe you can tell us yours, too! If you want to comment and chat real time, please join our Telegram group over here: https://t.me/+lLQiqaM4WAA5NTg9
