Episode 47 of Lawyerpreneur starts off a little differently than most. Beth starts off asking me about my work, which I tell her about. And if you've been listening for any length of time, you may have heard before. But it leads us right into her work as a lawyer and what she has been doing outside of law practice.I hope you enjoy this interview that touches on everything from food science to creativity and finding fulfillment within a career. While Beth George hasn't entirely left the practice of law behind, she spends most of her time consulting with bagel shop owners for her business BYOB Bagels. When Beth's son had dietary sensitivities that required a lot of experimenting, she found herself on a path that would lead to her being a bagel-based business consultant. Because she was raised in a home with a family-run business, Beth George was prepared for both the joys and struggles of being her own boss. You can find Beth George at BYOB Bagels, on Instagram at BYOBbagels, and on LinkedIn. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/lawyerpreneur)
“I quickly learned that physically, we can heal very quickly from anything. I started to become a true believer.” Beth McCarthy Smith (7:10-7:19) Beth McCarthy Smith, founder of Simplicity Holistic Health, used to consider herself a typical American. Having the occasional martini and burger, wining and dining clients, and not putting much thought into what went in her body was Beth's lifestyle. But when she and her husband were trying to conceive their second child, she struggled with infertility issues. What did she do? What standardized, Western medicine called for. Beth ended up having six IUIs, nine IVFs, two additional IVFs with a surrogate, surgeries, and four miscarriages. She was taking tens of thousands of dollars worth of drugs every cycle and feeling like there was no end in sight. “I had what 25% of Americans now have which was an infertility issue. I had one baby no problem, but I had secondary infertility. I did what most people do when we get a diagnosis - we go to the doctor, we stand in line, we do the drugs, we do the surgery, and I had absolutely no difference.” Beth McCarthy Smith (3:40-4:05) Living in Chicago, Beth decided to visit an acupuncturist who let Beth know her blood was too thick and that was causing her infertility. Talk about synchronicity. Five years ago at her very first fertility appointment, Beth was reading an ad that showed (as she calls it) “pretty blood” and “ugly blood”. Who doesn't want “pretty” and healthy blood!? But as Beth kept reading about changing your diet in lifestyle in correlation with your blood, she thought “no thanks”, and kept going down the path of surgeries, IVF, and more. After this acupuncturist's comments, she found the same blood doctor from the ad and set forth to change her diet and lifestyle, crying all the way through it. But just after a few short weeks of change, she started feeling healthier, more energized and happier than ever before! Instead of focusing on the child she couldn't have, she focused on how grateful she was for the family she did have. Four weeks later, after continuing to meditate, detox and drink juices, Bhet found out she was pregnant! Three weeks later she thought ‘this is the best thing that's ever happened to me'. “Healing and health is all about the blood and the gut. If you clean the gut and get the gut moving, the blood starts moving, and more oxygen moves through your body. It's amazing what people can do with this healing. We've worked with people with cancer, diabetes, fertility issues, everything under the sun.” Beth McCarthy Smith (11:50-12:27) Much of Beth's story includes the holistic component that comes with healing your body. Beth reminds us that we are so hard on ourselves, and need to learn to find acceptance, forgiveness and reach out for help. Thanks to her shift in lifestyle and mindset, Beth got pregnant with her second child at 39, and without even trying, got pregnant again at 42! This was the miracle and magic of cleansing her body, drinking cold-pressed juices, meditating and getting rid of toxic beliefs, habits and ways of eating. When Beth moved to Indianapolis, she realized she couldn't get the juices she used to buy retail in Chicago, so she just started making them for herself! First, she opened a colon hydrotherapy center and realized her clients didn't know what to eat or drink afterwards. Beth started making juices at home and bringing them in. Drinkable, simple and craveable is the goal with every Simplicity product. After spending $15 on juices in Chicago that were horrible tasting, Beth only wants to create juices that are as delicious as a bartender would make! She eventually started selling juices at a local Safeway and now, six years later, Simplicity Holistic Health is now available at Kroger, Fresh Time, market districts, and Whole Foods. To be able to scale in the refrigerated beverage section is an incredible feat because of how competitive the space is. You can buy Simplicity on their website, at Amazon, and even Saks Fifth Avenue right inbetween the shoe department and cosmetics! “There is no cheating. There is no falling off the bandwagon. This really revolves around you and each individual person.” Beth McCarthy Smith (2:44-2:58) The beautiful thing about Simplicity is there's something for everyone. Whether you're just starting out with juices or are “hardcore” and have been cleansing or juicing for years, you can find a Simplicity product you'll love. Beth says there's no right or wrong way to drink her juices, but the point is to add in more good to your diet… and more good that you actually enjoy! When you do that you'll naturally crowd out something that probably wasn't the best for your body or digestive system. You can add in juices slowly wherever you're at. Simplicity's juices are made with whole, fresh produce, and no artificial colors or preservatives. They're also cold-pressed, which may have you wondering how it's possible for them to have an extended shelf life. To keep the juice ‘alive', the juice is sent to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where it goes into bottles that are first put in water at 90,000 PSI (pounds per square inch) for 120 seconds, which takes the pressure down to sea level and kills all pathogens in the bottle. That's the cold pressure process and what gives the ‘alive' juice a longer shelf life. On top of it, the juice pulp is kept and fed to livestock, making the company waste free along with using 100% recyclable bottles. Lee and Jeff from the MEGA and Tirekicker podcast talk about 6 Wonky 80's movies they know you will like. Full show notes listed below ----more---- Fortress (1985) An Australian school teacher and her students are kidnapped. She and the children fight for their lives and try to escape from their captors. Loosely based on the 1972 Faraday School kidnapping of a teacher and her class by Edwin John Eastwood and Robert Clyde Boland. Eastwood later escaped from prison and repeated the crime with another teacher and her class in 1977. The Faraday kidnapping was in turn a real-life copycat crime based on a scene in the Clint Eastwood film Dirty Harry (1971) where the Scorpio Killer holds a bus driver and several schoolchildren hostage. The Faraday School kidnapping occurred on 6 October 1972 at a one-teacher school in the rural town of Faraday in Victoria, Australia, where two plasterers, Edwin John Eastwood and Robert Clyde Boland, kidnapped six female pupils and their teacher for a $1,000,000 ransom. The Victorian government claimed it would pay the ransom. The victims escaped and the criminals were captured, tried and convicted. Eastwood escaped and later kidnapped a teacher and nine pupils. He was again captured, convicted and sentenced. While in prison, Eastwood strangled convicted rapist Glen Davies in what was ruled self-defence. He was eventually released, having served his sentence. The film was initially released directly to cable television by the HBO channel in the United States on 24 November 1985.It contains scenes of graphic violence unusual for TV productions of the time. It was released to cinemas in Australia on 26 June 1986. Played for years on HBO Megaforce (1982) The story involves two fictional countries, the peaceful Republic of Sardun and their aggressive neighbor Gamibia. Unable to defend themselves from a Gamibian incursion, Sardun sends Major Zara and General Byrne-White to ask the help of MegaForce – a secret army composed of international soldiers from throughout the western world, equipped with advanced weapons and vehicles. The MegaForce leader, Commander Ace Hunter, will lead a mission to destroy the Gamibian forces, which are led by his rival, and former military academy friend, Duke Gurerra. While Hunter composes an elaborate battle plan to destroy Gurerra's forces, Zara tries out to become a member of MegaForce. As she executes the various tests, Hunter's feelings of affection toward her grow. And while she passes the tests, he is unable to allow her to participate in their raid, because her presence, as an outsider, would disrupt the trust and familiarity of his force. Eventually, MegaForce successfully para-drops its attack vehicles into Gamibia and Hunter mounts his sneak attack against Gurerra's forces. Although they manage to destroy his base, they are told by General Byrne-White that Sardun has decided they will not be allowed to cross the border into their country because they consider MegaForce too dangerous a global organization. At the same time, Gurerra has set a trap for them at the team's only means of escape – a dry lake bed where the cargo planes will pick them up. Gurerra sends his tanks to secure the lake bed while Hunter comes up with a plan to attack Gurerra from behind by crossing over a mountain range the enemy tanks had turned their backs toward. The plan succeeds, and MegaForce manages to break through Gurerra's tanks, but one of MegaForce's cargo planes is damaged in the process. Having to abandon their high-tech vehicles (which they program to self-destruct), the team successfully makes it on foot to the last plane, except for Hunter. The commander, instead, makes his own dramatic escape on his motorcycle after it deploys airfoils and a rocket motor and catches up with the cargo plane in midair. Although he has lost the battle, Gurerra shows admiration for Hunter's cunning, and he gives his old friend a thumbs up. Hal Needham later described it as: Kind of a version of James Bond done with a helluva lot of less budget and no Roger Moore, but it was a high tech, good "right wing" film and I thought it was kinda interesting. Those buggies that we built, they were dune buggies and we revamped 'em a little bit, and put the weapons on 'em and all that, and the military sent people out there to look at my weapons and my vehicles and how they run, and how they handle...they were out there in the desert with me for a week watching. And, if you go back and take a look at Desert Storm, there's a pretty good resemblance to my vehicles. They were pretty slick, pretty tricked out, and they had a helluva job putting those together. The film was poorly received by critics, bombed at the box office and was nominated for three Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture. See the flying bike scene Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend 1985 A paleontologist and her husband discover a mother and baby brontosaurus in Africa, and try to protect them from a group of hunters intent on capturing the dinosaurs. Starring William Katt from TV show the greatest american hero. Sean Young From Balde runner and dune and Ace Ventura Sparked an interest in learning more about actual sightings of dinosaurs. An article in a school magazine wrote about possible sighting in Congo. My imagination was hooked. Big Trouble in Little China (1986) Truck driver Jack Burton arrives in Chinatown, San Francisco, and goes to the airport with his Chinese friend Wang Chi to welcome his green-eyed fiancée Miao Yin who is arriving from China. However she is kidnapped on the arrival by a Chinese street gang and Jack and Wang chase the group. Soon they learn that the powerful evil sorcerer called David Lo Pan, who has been cursed more than two thousand years ago to exist without physical body, needs to marry a woman with green eyes to retrieve his physical body and Miao is the chosen one. Jack and Wang team-up with the lawyer Gracie Law, the bus driver and sorcerer apprentice Egg Shen and their friends and embark in a great adventure in the underground of Chinatown, where they face a world of magicians and magic, monsters and martial arts fighters. The film only gross $11.1M in the box office where it had an estimated gross budget of $25M, but James Cameron’s Aliens came out at the same time and took all of the thunder. Directed by John Carpenter and starred Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall The movie did so bad that John Carpenter said he would never do another blockbuster type movie again and went to independent film making from then on out. IT has since become a cult classic and has a 78% average rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Better Off Dead 1985 The teenager Lane Meyer has a crush on his girlfriend Beth Truss. According to Savage Steve Holland, the film is mostly autobiographical. Holland really was suicidal when his high school girlfriend left him for captain of the ski team. Also, he really did have a paperboy named Johnny Gasparini who would harass him for two dollars. According to Holland, when the film came out, the ex-girlfriend contacted him to apologize. Lane's mother's experimental cooking was inspired by Savage Steve Holland's mother, who did the same thing. "My mom would get McCall's magazine, and she would find these recipes and make these things, and have some excuse why they didn't taste good-because she forgot something or she didn't have an ingredient," Holland told Entertainment Weekly. One year for his birthday-not Christmas-she gifted him with some TV dinners. "She was like, 'And I got you these really cool frozen dinners because you like the peach cobbler in this one' or something. And I was like, 'Wow. Really? This is my life.'" As a spiritual director, I am a trained listener. In a spiritual direction session often I am just listening for the movement of God in someone's life. Over the course of this podcast I was really struck by a couple of moments so I wanted to bring those back and listen to them again. The podcast is all phone themed (I hope you have picked up on that by now) so let's just call this episode a recall. We start with my friend Kim. I wanted Kim to come and to talk about dreams and dream interpretation and what I learned was that Kim believes deeply that her life is speaking to her and when she is truly listening and trusting, she is hearing the voice of God. Now, I am still a bit skeptic of dreams but Kim made me want to listen deeper. Right after the George Floyd murder, I didn't really want to do a podcast that would ignore what was happening but also I didn't want to pretend that my voice was so important that I would do a podcast on race. I asked a few friends and they encouraged me to add to the conversation but to find a unique way to do that. My friend Beth Childs is a history teacher and an advocate. When Beth and I settled on what we would talk about I was interested but during the podcast, I really felt like I learned so much and mainly I learned that history may not find us the truth but it will definitely let us hear and see multiple points of view of the same occurrence and honestly, I had never thought about that before. Let's listen to that part of our conversation. And lastly on this recall podcast, my friend Glen is one of my sage friends. In the past six months or so I have been on a journey through the idea of the sacred feminine. When you are exploring new spirituality you often need new practices to recognize this growing area of your life. Prayer is a tricky practice for a lot of people I know and work with so the idea of mother earth and prayer made me want to have Glenn on to talk about that. His ancestors are natives and he has adopted a number of their practices into his own spirituality - I want to listen again today as I ask him about what many native people knew by living close to the earth and just listening to their surroundings. Women investing in Commercial Real Estate are rare. Why is that? Beth Azor, “The Canvassing Queen”,principal at Azor Advisory Services, is a rare bird in commercial real estate. She is a full time Commercial Real Estate Broker, Developer & Investor. Residential Real Estate Beth grew up with two residential real estate agents for parents. As soon as she turned 18, she got her real estate license and dabbled in real estate. After college, she worked for a non profit that paid very little. To make additional income, she worked as a real estate agent on weekends. In two years her non profit salary doubled, but she still made more money working weekends in residential real estate, but real estate was so boring. The residential developer she worked for had Beth hold an open house in a luxury home development. She spent most of her time reading People Magazine while waiting for prospects to show up for a tour of the model home. When a friend suggested she consider commercial real estate, she thought why? How much more boring could raw land be than residential housing? Then she learned about the possibilities in commercial real estate. She could help developers and investors solve problems, create wealth and achieve the American Dream. Commercial Real Estate Beth thrived in commercial real estate. The commercial real estate firm she started with provided a rich environment where she could grow and become a commercial real estate professional. In eighteen years, the firm grew from 11 to 125 people and she became the president of the firm. During her time with this firm, she found a passion, teaching agents how to lease vacant spaces. She also invested in multiple commercial real estate properties as a passive investor with her partner. At the end of run, she was a single mom of a 4 year old and recognized that the demands of running a large firm did not match her desire to be active in her kid’s lives. In 2004, Beth started Azor Advisory Services where she took the lead on investing in commercial real estate. Also, because she was recognized as an expert in leasing, other commercial real estate firms reached out to her to teach their agents how to become experts in leasing. Retail Leasing Beth is known by her fellow CRE professionals as the “Canvassing Queen”, referring to her constant canvassing for prospective tenants in her retail centers. She regularly teaches courses on how to lease space, and has written two books on the subject. Don’t Say No for the Prospect - how-to manual on overcoming fear and negative self talk. The Retail Leasing Playbook - step-by-step guide book offers clear instructions that every aspiring retail leasing agent can adapt to jumpstart their own career. Retail real estate has changed dramatically since the invention of the internet and Amazon. The Amazon effect has disrupted retail businesses and their need for a brick and mortar location. The days of going to the mall to find your pair of shoes have mostly been replaced by shoppers scrolling their computer screen, Retail is Not Dead Beth assures us that Retail is not dead. Instead, shoppers are going to the mall for an experience, looking for something they cannot buy online. Retail product sales has gone on line. Amazon’s biggest seller is shoes since they purchased Zappos. People are short on time and looking for a friction free solutions. Retail is now made up of the five “F” words. Food; restaurants. For the first time in history, restaurant sales exceed grocery sales! Beyond the eat in, carry out, Uber Eats, GrubHub, food delivery is dominate. Many restaurants now have multiple parking spaces in front of their restaurant for delivery vehicles to pick up their order for delivery. Fun: Competitive socializing. Barcade; this is the combination of arcade with the bar, ie: ax throwing. Kids gaming, ie: bounce houses, trampolines, escape games, i-Fly. Fitness: Fitness boutique; gyms, martial arts studios, pilates studios, etc. Physicians: Urgent care, Physical Therapy, Podiatrist, Chiropractor, Drug stores Furniture: Specialty furniture sales. Women Investing in Commercial Real Estate Where are women investing in commercial real estate? Commercial real estate has provided Beth with substantial growth opportunities. She invested passively in multiple properties while at the firm she started with. When she started Azor Advisory Services she was the lead investor/ sponsor responsible for finding the deal and the investor capital. Over time, Beth has acquired a portfolio worth over $80 million of cash flow producing real estate. When she talks with other women, she asks them, why are you not investing in real estate? Sadly, she finds that women have numerous excuses for not investing in commercial real estate, from “I’m not smart enough” to “I’m not good with numbers”. When she travels to conferences, she finds that less than 10 % of attendees are women, and that most female attendees are the spouse of an investor. Even in the deals that Beth raises money for, most investors tend to be male. To combat this, Beth has created The Commercial Real Estate Investment Symposium for Women. There will be multiple successful women real estate investors speaking on topics including: How we have invested How we found the deal How we raised the money Overcoming limiting beliefs Tips for Women Women have to grab hold of the opportunity in real estate. If they lack education, get educated. Are you are scared? Then find someone who has invested and get their help. Don’t follow the herd. When Beth ask women how does the stock market work, they don’t know, yet they defer to investing in their 401k. They do not understand that they will have to sell their stock in order to get their money. Cash flowing real estate produces cash and appreciates in value. So get educated and get in real estate. BIGGEST RISK Each week I ask my guest, “What is the Biggest Risk Real Estate Investors face?” BIGGEST RISK: I think the BIGGEST RISK is lack of knowledge. And we luckily live in a world where we can mitigate that, but that does take time and effort and work to do so. So and you don't know what you don't know. So when I was building my when I developed my first shopping center, which was about five years ago, I bought I bought a strip club and knocked it down and built a strip center. The municipality loved me. But I had never built anything before. And I was very nervous. And I and I had one partner in that deal. And I kept telling him, you know, I don't know what I'm doing. He said, don't worry, you'll figure it out. But I hired people that didn't know what they were doing to consult with me and teach me. And I read a lot of books. I listen to podcasts. So the biggest risk is the lack of education. But particularly you don't know what you don't know. And being wise and astute and I'm just a big believer in continually learning. I probably listened to three or four podcasts a day and I'm constantly reading. So that's how I mitigate that potential lack of knowledge. And that helps. But there's things, you know, our retail industry is going to be just lambasted by self-driving cars. So I'm fascinated and I'm reading all about that because if I I'm fifty nine. So if in the next ten years the self-driving car thing happens, our industry is going to shift again. So I'm trying to stay on top of it, but I don't know what I don't know. And so that's how I mitigate it. So that's the biggest risk, not knowing what you don't know.

About Beth French Beth French is an ultra-marathon swimmer and environmentalist and is an inspiration to anyone who wants to achieve their dreams. Beth was struck with glandular fever at 10 and didn’t fully recover- her adolescence being marred by periods of immune dysfunction and exhaustion. It was not until she was 17 and wheelchair bound that she was diagnosed with ME. Beth now lives without symptoms and spent years regaining trust in her body and her ability to challenge herself. She has travelled and studied abroad, learning indigenous alternatives to healthcare and cultural perspectives on life. She also ordained as a Buddhist nun. Beth says “So far my life has taught me that unless you take as many steps as you think you can, how are you ever going to learn that it really is only a tantalizing few more to get where you want to go?” Episode highlights Childhood interest in swimming. Beth remembers looking out to sea and thinking she could swim forever. Beth’s diagnosis of ME at 17 years old when she was in a wheelchair for 12 months. Swimming - became therapeutic and mediative. When Beth’s body was falling apart water reduced aches. People always ask how she became better – used rebellious energy at 17 years old to push through and lit a fire of fury to get better. Beth went on to read everything about nutrition and health and indigenous healthcare (Hawaii and Thailand) and different takes on anatomy (found health whilst abroad) Beth fell in love with her body again whilst in Hawaii swimming in the Pacific Ocean and managed to swim over 3 hours straight. Beth ordained as a Buddhist monk in Thailand. Beth felt if she didn't address her mind, she would return to illness - there is always an underlying threat. Beth now sees ME as her biggest teacher as opposed to greatest burden. Beth now values every moment body teaks and hurts and have an amazing relationship with body and food. Beth spends time in the space of getting body and mind in harmony – she needs to spend the time to do it. Beth now gets into the water and is able to let go and not worry about the outcome or the destination. Balancing of being a single mum with a child with autism. Swimming to France was testing the boundary of what is possible. Having a child shouldn't stop us having an adventure. Beth decided to swim to France when her son, Dylan, was only 2 – trained when he was asleep and at pre-school. Film – Ocean 7 – how it started. Once Beth swam the English channel Beth looked for other challenges. Oceans 7 is the toughest challenge for a swimmer. Only 4-5 people have completed it. Beth wanted to be the first to complete it all within 1 year. Film following Beth's Ocean 7 challenge comes out in May called Against the tide. Not a story about swimming, more about motherhood. Will come out through www.ourscreen.com. Community approach and if enough people in local area request, local cinema will show this. It will later be on Amazon and probably Netflix. Beth wants children to look at adventure and not assume it is Bear Grylls and rather to look at alternatives like Beth. For years I've been supporting women to be happier and to live more fulfilling lives, and I've only recently come to understand just how important sex and sensuality is to living a truly happy and complete life, and to being our true selves. To discuss the importance of sex and sensuality and how we can embrace it in our lives, I am joined by Beth Liebling, luxury boutique owner, host of the radio show Love and Laughter with Beth on ESPN Houston, and the author of Love and Laughter: Sexy, Meaningful Fun For Everyone (which you can get at Amazon here). The subtitle of her book is a nod to the importance of being able to laugh about and find humor in sex and sexuality. Sometimes sex is intense and grandiose love-making, heartfelt in every way, slow and tender. Sometimes it's raunchy and “dirty” and hard and fast. In the middle is where we recognize the significance, the meaning, the joy, the pleasure, the intimacy, and the humor, and this approaches a truly divine connection with another person. Sometimes we want these other extremes, and that's perfectly fine, but we should be able to experience a wide variety, shifting from one to another according to our needs and desires. Sadly, many women don't enjoy a healthy, pleasurable sex life, and according to Beth, this commonly stems from their childhood. Women often see two paths before them when they're young: They can be a good girl, or they can be a slut. In addition, they're told to love, and that women should be loving, but that this should really only be from their heart and not from their bodies, because once they start enjoying love with their bodies they're labeled sluts. When Beth works with women she emphasizes the distinction between sensuality and sexuality, and she stresses the importance of getting in touch with one's own sensuality before working on their sexuality. She also addresses the sensitive topic of how parents can talk to their children about touching themselves. We hire coaches for our golf game but we don't think about hiring coaches for intimacy and sexuality, and many of us would truly benefit from exactly that kind of coaching! There's so much more to sex than anatomy and biology, and we have a lot to learn, and this learning can be very pleasurable. Part of this learning is learning about our own needs. Sometimes women engage in sex when what they're really craving is emotional intimacy, and getting in touch with what we truly need and desire is an important part of a fulfilling life of sexuality and sensuality. Beth explains why she prefers the term “romantic props” to “sex toys,” and what each phrase implies about our sex lives. Her mission with her store, Darling Way, is to put fun and laughter and beauty back in sex and intimacy. She fosters a sense of community with her customers, and encourages conversation and connection. While there are legions of talented female farriers around the globe, it remains a predominantly male profession. So, it’s especially fascinating that the Executive Director of The American Farriers Association happens to be a woman — who, having attended Mount Holyoke College and Yale School of Management, also happens to be incredibly well-educated. With terrific insight and a wonderful sense of humor, Elise’s guest today, Beth Daniels, takes the old adage, “No hoof, no horse,” to entirely new levels. Through her role with the AFA, Beth has helped to champion the critical need for a team approach between the horse owner, the equine vet, and the farrier to ensure the best possible care for horses. Utilizing cutting-edge materials, critical scientific research, and a vet-unified team approach, AFA is helping to tackle problems like navicular syndrome, laminitis, and other chronic conditions — to not only increase horses’ comfort, but also their longevity and athleticism. For Beth and the professional, international AFA members, it’s not just a job -- it's a genuine dedication to horses' well-being, marked by passion and devotion. Beth joins Elise today to discuss her role in the AFA, how she became Executive Director, where and when her love for horses began, the importance of farriers in equine health, and the personal characteristics vital to pursuing one's passion. Listen in to hear her perspective on horses, their health, and educating owners on the critical importance of developing a partnership between themselves, their vets, and their farriers. Topic of Discussion: [2:07] Beth’s path to becoming AFA’s Executive Director. [3:35] What Beth’s volunteer experiences have meant to her and the drive behind trying different roles. [5:00] Where Beth’s love of adventure began. [7:08] When Beth became interested in horses. [9:36] A funny interaction between Elise and a stranger. [11:06] A similar trait Beth has noticed as well, that parallels Elise’s story. [12:53] How Beth’s love of horses has guided the decisions she's made throughout her life. [15:18] The love of horses. [16:43] What Beth thinks about the debate of following one’s passion versus developing a more mainstream career. [21:44] The personal characteristics that are vital for pursuing one's passion. [25:18] The importance of keeping a positive script within your mind. [26:37] What’s at stake when we don’t follow our dreams? [32:20] Taking steps towards a positive change and improving yourself. [39:23] What success looks like to Beth. [41:54] An important life lesson Beth learned from her mother. [43:45] A life lesson from Randy Pausch. We head Down Under to talk with Aussie paranormal investigation educator Beth Luscombe of Access Paranormal on After Hours AM/America’s Most Haunted Radio, with hosts Joel Sturgis and Eric Olsen. We’ll bone up on investigation tools and techniques with BEth in hour 2; at Hour 1, Joel and Eric will scan the week’s hot paranormal news for tasty and tantalizing tales. Access Paranormal Beth Luscombe is a lively and passionate Australian paranormal investigator, speaker, researcher, event coordinator, and paranormal journalist, and producer of the Access ParaCast.. Her ambition is to provide relevant and actionable educational information for paranormal investigators around the globe through online learning. Beth has been investigating the paranormal for almost ten years, both as a member of a paranormal team and as an independent investigator. In that time she has figured out how to get started, what you need to know, and the best tools and resources. Beth’s passion for the paranormal stems to as far back as she can remember. Premonitions and objects seemingly moving on their own fascinated her. In 2007 she decided to move to the UK to work and travel for two years. She loved it, finding the paranormal field to be much larger and more established there. She began to seriously investigate with paranormal groups based in London, notably the London Paranormal Society. She investigated London Dungeons, Middleton Hall, Winston Churchill War Rooms, London Tombs, Eastbury Manor, Valentines Manor, and, one of the most active she has come across, the Ragged School Museum. When Beth arrived back to Australia in 2009 she was… well… really disappointed. There was NOWHERE you could investigate in a public location like she had in the UK, nor could she find any information about Australian paranormal events. Luckily, with interest growing, the paranormal field has grown in A

When Beth’s mom, Barbara, was diagnosed with MS at the age of 38, a lot of things quickly seemed out of control and out of reach. Her mother’s confinement to a wheelchair was now the new normal. However, nothing seemed to be able to stop Barbara’s (Babsie) from wearing her room-filling smile. Years later, when Beth went to a local running event, she saw Rick and Dick Hoyt running in a modified wheelchair, since Rick was unable to walk or speak after being born with Cerebral Palsy. Once Beth saw the father-son duo doing the impossible, she knew that she and her mother could do those events too. She got a hold of a Hoyt “Blade” running wheelchair and started running with her mother, creating Team Babsie. To date, they’ve completed tons of 5Ks, 10Ks, half-marathons, marathons, triathlons and charity bike rides. Last summer, Team Babsie pushed Babsie to the top of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. Currently, they are training to qualify for the Boston Marathon and in the Spring of 2020 they are headed to Spain to walk a part of the Camino de Santiago I hope you enjoy this story of inspiration, commitment, and love. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW_dvMh1tm0 Athletic Brewing Company is a pioneer in craft non-alcoholic beer.
