Evan Bevins and Mark Radulich present our Pearl Harbor 2001 Movie Review!Pearl Harbor is a 2001 American romantic war drama film directed by Michael Bay, produced by Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer and written by Randall Wallace. The film features a heavily fictionalized version of the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japanese forces on December 7, 1941, focusing on a love story set amidst the lead up to the attack, its aftermath, and the Doolittle Raid. The film was a box office success, grossing $59 million in its opening weekend and $449.2 million worldwide, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2001, but received negative reviews from critics, who criticized the story, long runtime, screenplay and dialogue, pacing, performances and historical inaccuracies, although the visual effects and Hans Zimmer's score were praised. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, winning in the category of Best Sound Editing. I'm tired and lazy so here's the first few paragraphs of the movie from Wikipedia. Baby Geniuses is a 1999 American family comedy film directed by Bob Clark and written by Clark and Greg Michael, from a story by Clark, Steven Paul, Francisca Matos, and Robert Grasmere. It stars Kathleen Turner, Christopher Lloyd, Kim Cattrall, Peter MacNicol, and Ruby Dee. The film has the distinction of being the first full-length feature to use computer-generated imagery for the synthesis of human visual speech. 2D warping techniques were used to digitally animate the mouth viseme shapes of the babies which were originally shot with their mouths closed. The viseme shapes were sampled from syllables uttered by the babies on the set. Baby Geniuses was almost universally panned by critics, who lambasted its acting, humor, special effects, writing, and directing, but it grossed $36.5 million worldwide against a production budget of $12 million. In 2004, it was followed by a sequel, Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2, which was a box office bomb, and received even worse critical reviews, receiving a nomination for Worst Picture at the 25th Golden Raspberry Awards. throwbacktheaterpodcast@gmail.com
In this episode we dress up like we're in a Mad Max movie, strap on a comically ridiculous codpiece and dive head first into the world where shock rock meets glam rock in the form of the legendary metal band W.A.S.P.In the same way Lemmy is Motorhead, Blackie Lawless is Wasp. So maybe more accurately we will be diving face first into Blackie's comically ridiculous codpiece.Blackie grew up in Florida and New York in the 60s and considered following his uncle into a career in professional baseball. But it was the stage that called young Lawless and he learned to play guitar. After just doing an episode about the Oscars, the boys decided to keep things exciting and do another one immediately after. But the Oscars are half the podcast's title, so we think our hosts deserve a pass for this one. Today they take a look at some films which have recently won Best Picture at the Academy Awards or Worst Picture at the Golden Raspberry Awards, trying their best to recast the movies and flip the outcome of the awards. In other words, can Sonny and Tom take a Best Picture film and make it bad by changing the cast? And can they take a Worst Picture film and make it good the same way? The short answer is no, as the cast can only affect a film so much if you can't change everything else. So the boys quickly decide that they actually are allowed to change everything else, basically reshaping the movies entirely and rendering the episode's title inaccurate. And that should give you an idea of how much they planned for this one.Of course, Sonny and Tom begin with a round of Arnold in a Famous Role, which takes them to Cliff Robertson's 1968 win as Charly in the film "Charly," which was based on the story "Flowers For Algernon." The boys discuss if Arnold Schwarzenegger would do well in this role as an intellectually disabled person, a kind of role which pretty much died off about 20 years ago. They also take a moment to acknowledge Cliff Robertson's late-career turn as Uncle Ben in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. In the process, they come to the realization that Uncle Ben only works if the character is old, as a youthful and spry Uncle Ben would detract from Peter Parker's nerdy ways. That's the kind of discourse you come here for.Hosted by Sonny de Nocker (@swankysonny) and Tom Price (@thomas_price22).Theme by Josh Britt (jbrittmusic.com)Instagram: AnOscarForArnoldTwitter: @AnOscar4ArnoldTikTok: AnOscarForArnoldContact: AnOscarForArnold@gmail.com

There was no artist bigger than Mariah Carey in the 1990s. She was the Artist of the Decade, according to Billboard, the World Music Awards' Female Artist of the Millennium, and the owner of 15 number one singles in the ‘90s alone. And that doesn't even include “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” arguably her biggest song ever. That song didn't become a #1 hit until 25 years after its release. And it has continued to top the Billboard Hot 100 every year since. On the surface, Mariah was on top of the world, but as the new millennium struck, Mariah was going through some changes, both privately and professionally. After years of trying she was finally exiting her tumultuous marriage to record executive Tommy Mottola. Despite filing for a separation in 1997, it wasn't until the end of 2000 that Mariah was granted her divorce. At the same time she was leaving a bad situation with her label Columbia, where her husband was the Chairman and CEO. As she was gearing up for the release of Glitter, her feature film debut, Mariah reportedly suffered a physical and emotional breakdown. Glitter's theatrical release was delayed three weeks as a result, but it didn't really matter - nothing could have saved the film from the savage critics, who called it “heroically bad” and “infinitely mockable.” Glitter became one of the decade's biggest box office flops, winning Mariah Worst Actress at the Golden Raspberry Awards, aka the Razzies. The film's failure didn't help Glitter's soundtrack either. Her first release for new label Virgin, Glitter was neither a hit with fans or critics. One writer called it an "utter meltdown -- the pop equivalent of Chernobyl." Mariah's official follow up to Glitter came out in December 2002. Charmbracelet was her opportunity to make a fresh start, a “new lease on life,” she called it. Unfortunately, Charmbracelet didn't exactly get things back on track for Mariah. While the album was one of her highest debuts on the Billboard Albums chart, sales dropped off quickly. Then at the beginning of 2004, famed music executive L.A. Reid left his job at Arista to become the new chairman and CEO of The Island Def Jam Music Group. This would prove to be a pivotal moment for both Reid, who was forced out of Arista following the merger of Sony and BMG, and Mariah, who was in need of some career rehabilitation. Reid had just orchestrated a career makeover for Usher, who was riding atop the Billboard Hot 100 with his hit “Yeah!” - With that song, Usher had become the biggest artist on the planet, and Reid was looking to do the same for Mariah. The first step was to set her up with the right producer. Enter Jermaine Dupri, Usher's longtime mentor who co-wrote and produced Mariah's 1996 #1 hit “Always Be My Baby.” More collaborations followed and Mariah was hooking up with the Neptunes, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, and more. In November 2004, Mariah presented an album's worth of songs to L.A. Reid, but Reid felt she needed a few more bangers. Mariah went back to Atlanta to work with Jermaine Dupri again and guess what? They created some magic. In just two days they came up with two songs that would end up being her album's first two singles: “It's Like That” and “We Belong Together.” This is the True story of Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" with newly unearthed audio from Mariah Carey. Also contains audio from Genius' Interview with Mariah, Released November 16, 2018.

"Thrust it! Thrust it!”Before the sequins and controversy hit the screen, Showgirls was a script that sparked excitement for its bold take on the glitz and grunge of Las Vegas life. Helmed by Paul Verhoeven and penned by Joe Eszterhas, the duo behind the provocative hit Basic Instinct, expectations were high for this journey into the world of Vegas showgirls. Yet, the resulting film would divide audiences and critics, becoming a cult classic for some and a cautionary tale of excess for others. The backdrop was set for a film that would be discussed and dissected for years to come. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue the 1995 Golden Raspberry Awards Worst Director Nominees series with a conversation about Showgirls. Here's a hint at what we talk about. In this deep dive, Pete and Andy explore the contentious legacy of Showgirls, a film that's danced its way into infamy. They discuss the film's place in the 1995 Golden Raspberry Awards as a Worst Director Nominee, debating whether the film's over-the-top style was a misguided misstep or a misunderstood stroke of satirical genius. The hosts don't always see eye-to-eye, revealing a schism in their takes on the film's execution and its thematic intentions. They ponder whether Elizabeth Berkley's performance as Nomi was intentionally exaggerated to serve the film's satirical edge or if it was a misdirection that led to its critical panning. As part of their series on the Razzies, they delve into the broader conversation about what the nomination means for Showgirls and its place in cinematic history. Here are a few other points in our discussion. The Dickensian description of the film by some and the evolving public opinion over timeThe comparison of Verhoeven's direction in Showgirls to his work in RoboCop and other filmsThe potential allegory of Hollywood and selling out as interpreted by Jonathan RosenbaumThe contrasting performances, particularly Berkley's and Gina Gershon's, and their impact on the film's toneThe undercurrents of power and gender dynamics within the narrativeOur personal reactions to the comedic elements and whether they hit the mark or fell flatAs we peel back the layers of this high-kicking, high-stakes drama, we find a film that's as polarizing as it is fascinating. Despite its Razzie nods and the debates it sparks, Showgirls remains an electrifying topic of discussion for cinephiles and critics alike. The MCU is getting all kinds of award nominations... they're just the WRONG award nominations. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania has been nominate for three Razzies. Is this the beginning of a new trend? ➡️ Tip Jar and Fan Support: http://ClownfishSupport.com ➡️ Official Merch Store: http://ShopClownfish.com ➡️ Official Website: http://ClownfishTV.com ➡️ Audio Edition: https://open.spotify.com/show/6qJc5C6OkQkaZnGCeuVOD1 ➡️ Gaming News: https://open.spotify.com/show/0A7VIqE3r5MQkFgL9nifNc Additional Context: It's fascinating to see how the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), known for its box office triumphs and fan adoration, is facing a different kind of spotlight. The latest MCU flick, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania," has snagged not the Oscars, but the Razzies – the cheeky antithesis to Hollywood's glitzy awards season. The Razzies, officially known as the Golden Raspberry Awards, are an annual event that "honors" the worst in film. It's a tongue-in-cheek affair that playfully pokes fun at movies that miss the mark. "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania" finding itself nominated for three Razzies is a significant departure from the usual praise lavished on MCU productions. So, is this a new trend for the MCU? It's a bit early to call it a trend, but it's certainly a wake-up call. The MCU has been a juggernaut in the film industry, redefining superhero cinema and enjoying a consistent run of critical and commercial success. However, no franchise is immune to missteps, and "Quantummania" might be a sign that even the mightiest can falter. This Razzie nod could serve as a reminder for the MCU to maintain its high standards and not rest on its laurels. It's crucial for the franchise to keep innovating and delivering quality content to avoid falling into the trap of formulaic storytelling. But let's not forget, the Razzies are not a definitive measure of a movie's worth but a playful nudge to filmmakers. For the MCU, this might just be a minor blip in an otherwise stellar track record. Only time will tell if this is a one-off or the start of a new, less desirable trend. For now, let's keep an eye on how the MCU responds to this unexpected turn and whether it'll impact their future projects. Remember, even superheroes can have an off day! Sony and Marvel's Morbius is a nearly perfect portrayal of Michael Morbius, the living vampire, and villain in the Spider-Man comic. Jared Leto does a great job playing the character as we see him in the comics and cartoons. The issue is this film is a clear tee-off of the Sinister Six. But after seeing this film, Rob And Alex don't think anyone would want to be part of the villainous team desiring to take on the web-crawler. But they have some alternate endings that could change that. Notes: Who is Morbius in the comics? Who are the Sinister Six? Today on "Words On Film", Dan Burke goes over the winners of the 2023 Academy Awards and the 2023 Golden Raspberry Awards. Mr. Burke celebrates his correct predictions, and audibly laments his incorrect predictions.
Catwoman with Halle Berry deserves the Raspberry awards it got. This movie is very loosely based on the DC comic villain. In fact, this Catwoman is someone else entirely. This movie does not slap. Halle Berry's acceptance speech at the Razzies does however. You know how you're watching a movie with friends and then everyone, especially the cool friends, talk about the movie after it's over? The winners of the 43rd Annual Golden Raspberry Awards have officially been announced! Which movie will serve as our season finale? Will the Razzies' historical animus toward Sylvester Stallone continue? Will Morbius morb all over itself and somehow get released in theaters a third time? Will Andrew Dominik's weird issues with women in Blonde get their just desserts? Can Tom Hanks avoid Razzies coming from two different directions? Can anyone tell us literally anything about The King's Daughter and how they dragged Pierce Brosnan into that? Will Machine Gun Kelly and Mod Sun protect everyone else from ridicule? And will the Razzies do something...classy? Listen to find out! Also, in light of the Razzies' controversial nomination of 12-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong for her lead role in the remake of Firestarter, we cover the other children that have been nominated for Golden Raspberries over the years, including Brooke Shields, Mara Hobel, Macaulay Culkin, and Jake Lloyd. Battleship is a 2012 American military science fiction action film based on the board game of the same name. The film was directed by Peter Berg from a script by brothers Jon and Erich Hoeber and stars Alexander Skarsgård, Taylor Kitsch, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna, Tadanobu Asano, Hamish Linklater and Liam Neeson. Filming took place in Hawaii and on USS Missouri. In the film, the crews of a small group of warships are forced to battle against a naval fleet of extraterrestrial origin in order to thwart their destructive goals. Battleship premiered in Tokyo on April 3, 2012 and was released by Universal Pictures in the United States on May 18, 2012. The film was a box-office bomb, grossing $303 million worldwide against a production budget of $209–220 million, losing both Universal and Hasbro $150 million. It was nominated for six awards at the 33rd Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture, winning one for Worst Supporting Actress for Rihanna.
We completely forgot when the newest crop of Razzie nominations would be announced, so we're a bit late getting this episode out. As is tradition, we did our damnedest to avoid the actual nominations until we recorded to capture our real-time reactions. As a palette cleanser, we also talked about this year's Oscar nominations. Joe makes some predictions about the nominations before the reveal, we marvel at how weird it is that two major films this year feature an Oscar-nominated lead performance while being otherwise reviled, Jack unfortunately learns who Machine Gun Kelly is, we cover some truly bewildering nomination decisions, we revel in some truly outstanding performances/writing/directing that 2022 brought us, and Jack keeps things light with some dad jokes. Remember, whoever wins Worst Picture at this year's Golden Raspberry Awards will be our season 2 finale. Will it be morbin' time for us? Or will we be going Blonde? Let us know what film you think will win Worst Picture on Twitter (@DeRazzledPod)! For the past 23 years, a non-profit theater company called Only Make Believe has been creating and performing live in-person and virtual interactive theater for children in hospitals, care facilities, and special education programs. It started here in New York City but has since opened an office Washington, DC with some outreach in other cities as well. In the next episode you'll hear an encore presentation of my conversation with founder Dena Hammerstein. But for today, I'm sitting down with one of the board members and the director of their annual gala, who has known Dena and OMB since its inception. Joe DiPietro is certainly no stranger to theater and has been writing for the stage since 1991. His musicals and plays have received multiple awards and nominations on and off-Broadway, including Memphis starring Montego Glover and All Shook Up with Cheyenne Jackson. He talks about these two talented performers and shares his affection for Only Make Believe. We also get into two of his most recent Broadway shows: Diana, the Musical and Living on Love, his lone Broadway play so far (starring former WINMI guest Douglas Sills). Both shows had their own challenges coming to and surviving on Broadway. In fact, Diana filmed their stage production for Netflix during the Covid shutdown, and that movie notoriously went on to win Golden Raspberry Awards for Worst Screenplay and Worst Picture, among others. But Joe takes it all in stride and shares with us not only his passion for theater but also what has kept him going through the ups and downs. You can support Why I'll Never Make It as well through Subscriptions or Donations. 03:02 - Joe's introduction to theater 05:30 - Only Make Believe and its mission 13:58 - Montego Glover and Cheyenne Jackson 19:32 - How you can help OMB and WINMI 21:37 - Diana, the Musical 34:31 - Living on Love 45:16 - His theater writing process Staying cooped up anywhere can be difficult for anyone, but facing the four walls of a hospital room 24/7 can be especially tough -- draining even. For more than 20 years, Only Make Believe has brought happiness to thousands of children in hospitals and care facilities in New York City and the DC area through live interactive theater. To date, approximately 95,000 children have been impacted by OMB's services, and that number continues to grow each year. Because OMB knows that “freeing a child's imagination is a valuable part of the healing process,” the organization works with a team of professional actors to provide interactive theater for sick children using nothing by a backdrop, along with a supply of props, costumes and imagination, of course. What happens next is quite magical to say the least. By the end of an OMB show, the same children who were having the worst day imaginable and didn't intend on participating are dancing, laughing and having fun. Professional actor Chris Wilson, who has since gone on to become OMB's Director of Programming & Communications, calls days like this a job well done. “Only Make Believe allows theater to become a truly immersive experience. The actors transform the space, interact with the audience, and adjust the show to the needs of each group of children,” Wilson said. “I am a firm believer that the performing arts have the ability to allow children to think and grasp concepts in a different way.” Learn more about Only Make Believe and how you can help. The 2022 Only Make Believe Gala Join OMB as they celebrate those who inspire us with their dedication to philanthropy and raise funds to support our interactive theatre programming in hospitals, care facilities, and schools with special education programs. They have garnered so much the support for their virtual & hybrid galas over the past 2 years, and are certainly ecstatic to be BACK ON BROADWAY in person with former WINMI guests like Brad Oscar and Kathryn Allison. Only Make Believe's annual gala has earned a reputation as New York's most entertaining and unique charity event of the season! So join them if you can.
