Ps 25 describes a man devoted to God & trusting in Him, but also aware of his faults & past sins, so his prayer is based on God's mercy, not his own performance. It's an Acrostic - each verse starts with the next letter of the alphabet, a literary device to add form & aid memorisation. Many elements fit with the time of Absalom's rebellion. His reference to the sins of his youth (v7) shows it's set later in his life. David is in distress, on the run from his enemies, but also aware his sins opened the door to this rebellion, as Nathan predicted in 2Sam 12:11. So, seeking divine deliverance from enemies is a major theme (v2,3,15,16,17,18,19). He acknowledges the root of his troubles was his own sins (when we sin, we turn our back to God & open the door to the curse). So, asking for God's mercy & forgiveness is also a major theme (v6,7,11.18). Thus, it's called a Penitential Psalm. So, he declares his faith that: “You are the God of my salvation” (v5) from both sin & enemies. Likewise, God saves us from our sins (the root problem) & rescues us from our enemies (the resulting curse). Part 1 is a PRAYER (v1-7). “Unto You, O LORD, I LIFT UP my SOUL” (v1). Like a windsurfer trying to catch the wind, we need to lift up our earthbound soul to God (Isa 40:31), seeking fellowship with Him. We need to put aside everything else and direct our soul toward God in faith, looking & waiting on Him, in submission, ready to receive His life. Then he prays for DELIVERANCE from his enemies (v2-3). Thus, he starts with his outer life. Even if we are at peace we should pray into our future: “Deliver us from evil” (Matt 6:13). “O my God, I TRUST (take refuge) in You; let me not be ASHAMED; let not my enemies triumph over me.” He bases his prayer on his covenant with God. By faith he draws near to God and lays hold of His protection. 'Ashamed' means to be disappointed, to trust in something that proves unworthy (Rom 5:5, 10:11, Isa 49:23). This is a prayer for public vindication thru victory, which will also result in God's glory. “Indeed, let no one who WAITS on You be ASHAMED” (v3a), or better: “no one who WAITS on You (in faith) will be ASHAMED” (v3a). He is confident of this fact. To WAIT is to actively look to God & wait for His instructions, ready to obey, like a waiter. It's an attitude of submission to God's timing, leadership & wisdom, rather than rushing ahead in the flesh. This is how he responded to Absalom's rebellion. “Let those be ASHAMED, who deal treacherously without cause” (v3b). This describes his enemies who followed Absalom in his lies & treachery. Then he moves from praying for his outward life to his inner life by first praying for GUIDANCE (v4-5), for he understood outward victory & good circumstances require walking with God, as he did at the time of Absalom's rebellion (prayer is superficial if all we pray for is our outer life): “Show me Your WAYS, O Lord; teach me Your PATHS” (v4). God's WAYS are love, righteousness, service, integrity, faith, and His PATHS include their practical application in our lives. Receiving His guidance is not enough, for he also knows he needs God to lead him step by step along His path: “LEAD me in Your truth and TEACH me, for You are the God of my salvation (from my sin & enemies). On You I WAIT all the day (patience in waiting, his settled attitude)” (v5). Guidance is part of our personal walk with God. It's of the heart, not mechanical obeying of rules, a lifestyle of waiting & obeying. Then he prays for MERCY: “REMEMBER, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses (chesed), for they are from of old (eternity)” (v6). To remember is to bring certain thoughts to the forefront of one's mind as a basis for our attitude & actions. It is used as a covenant word, as in remembering our covenant with God (1Cor 11:24-25), and God remembering us in His covenant love (Lk 23:42). He grounds His prayer on divine mercy, not justice (Ex 34:6). “Do NOT REMEMBER the sins of my youth (Bathsheba), nor my transgressions; according to Your MERCY REMEMBER me, for Your GOODNESS' sake, O Lord” (v7). "Don't let your attitude & actions toward me be based on my sins, but on your covenant love for me. Don't just forgive my sins, forget them." He knows he's forgiven (2Sam 12:13, Ps 32, 51), but his troubles reminded him of his past sins, that led to this situation, causing him to turn to God in humility and reaffirm before God his full repentance, and in faith plead for & claim God's covenant promises of forgiveness (MERCY) & grace (GOODNESS) to overcome the effect of those sins. This was also needed as the situation would have triggered accusing thoughts of condemnation, encouraged by satan (this whole attack on David's Throne was part of a bigger spiritual warfare, where satan tried to stop God's purposes thru him), that would have paralysed his faith had he allowed them. So, it was necessary for him to bring these thoughts to God in prayer, claiming His covenant mercy & grace.

Psalm 139 is my favorite psalm. God is honored in its words as the one who is always there. In this episode, I share my second song adaptation of a section from this psalm. Marlana So, I really am looking forward to having this conversation with you because I think aging is a touchy topic when it comes to women because most of us, as we age almost feel like we have to shrink and become a little more invisible. We aren't in the bloom of youth anymore, opportunities seem to be less, all those kinds of things. And even the beauty industry has such an emphasis on being young, staying young, all these kinds of things. So, I know that you use the term agent by viciously so how do we embrace that as opposed to, you know, wallowing in the corner? Ruth Yeah, first of all, get out of the corner, and stop wallowing and you're not invisible you're making you're doing it to yourself. Now I know people say I feel less visible now, well darken your eyebrows, for one thing, that's a practical thing women give up on their eyebrows as they get older. And I'm serious about this. I taught this is my book, Baby I'm the boss of me. And one of my chapters in it is about when I discovered the day that my eyebrows had turned white on me, you know. And anyway, that's the as you can see. But it's I don't we are from the very beginning. Beginning given a bad rap. Now I was a teenager in the 60s. So, I hit the baby boomers burn your bra, you're over by the time you're 30 types of attitudes. But it was a crazy time, and it wasn't the first time that women rose up and, you know, did their speech. I mean, it's been going on for a long time. But I think it gets back to the whole don't buy into that, that you're less beautiful as you get older, actually in the modeling industry now there is a huge it's called the classic. And using older models, just as diversities come into that world and but it's up to you, you know, you can't this is not a time when somebody else is going to give you a hand when as one gets older. It's their path. It's my path. You know, it's like you're all alone when you're born and you're all alone when you die, no matter how many people around the bed. It's you taking that next step and the sooner and I think I don't think we're born vulnerable feeling I think it really does have to do about have to do with our looks and that aging part but that affects men as well. I have men friends and pen their pay slips you know, the bottom half never really taught. And I can keep the craggy brow, but you know it's and that starts you're preserving your look...

Heroic Act of Humility 2 Kings 5:14The Widow of Zarephath performs a heroic act of faith.Naaman the Syrian performs a humble act of faith, but for him , it is also a heroic act of faith. For Him, it likely is the hardest thing.Remember that we are officially in Luke 4 wondering what is so very offensive about all this that they try to throw Jesus off a cliff. It is that Your Ways are not my ways. That Salvation comes to the undeserving. That You choose people who I definitely would not choose. We are a whole lot like Naamen in our story. Prideful, provincial and pouty. When God shows up in an unexpected, radical way he at first makes quite a poor showing. Probably, so did you. Misunderstanding. Wrestling. Fighting with God and with people around you who are just trying to talk some sense into your life. Listen and see if you are like our anti-hero Naamen. You probably won't like it.

Psalm 139 is one of my favorites. I love the intimate relationship with God that David reveals in the deeply personal words of this song. I imagine the king sitting under a tree on a starry night, singing to the lover of his soul. At the end of the psalm is a prayer that I find engaging. It asks God very simply to reveal to the writer the truth of his position before God. It invites God to search the writer's heart, to know his soul, and to point out anything that's offensive to God. The implication is that the singer is ready, even eager, to make any changes that would lead to an even more intimate relationship with God. He wants no hindrances. It was the deeply personal touch that led me to put to music these two verses and add my own intimate expression of commitment to God a few years ago. "Walk in Your Ways" is truly my prayer to God. I want to know him and be known by him. I want to be rid of all that offends him so we can be closer today than we were yesterday or the day before or the day before that. Father we repent of selfishness even in our own prayer life with You! We are awaken to the fact that our relationship to You is a heart matter. It is as intimate as husband and wife in true mattiage where honesty and truth reign supreme. Father Your Kingdom is based on Justice! Everything You created is to follow the order You have established and to be in harmony with Your Way.  You have given us the Commandments not as a legalistic way to live, but as a proper guideline to follow so that Your kingdom will be here on earth as it is in heaven. Lord waken our understanding to see how wonderful are Your Ways and how You have always love us even when we walked away and turned our heart from Your Heart!  It is awesome to know that You are such a loving Father, that the moment we repent You are there to embrace us and restore us as You Son showed us by the Loving Father when the prodigal son returned.  We are so grateful to be blessed with such forgiveness and restoration.  Even now in this hour here on earth that re=set has a start, You are doing such a marvelous work in our day!  By our repentance You are restoring us and making us a Holy People, a nation set apart so that we give You Glory, Honor and Praise! Father, in this hour we are here to repent and intercede for Justice in our land and that all forms of bribery be exposed and crushed by the Hammer of Justice.  Lord we intercede for judges and all those who are aligned with the court system in any form that they will become pure and righteous so that judgments will be rendered without prejudice because of the bribe or favoritism.  That we will have judges who will be fair and clear sighted in their decisions to all that come before them.  That there is no prejudice because one is rich or poor! Lord correct our vision and attitude toward even the beauty of women that it is more than just pleasure but it is an unfolding of the Beauty of who You are and what You want to share with each of us both men and women.  Father You want us to place our complete trust in You and that is so much a sign for us when we see  mother hold her infant child to her breast to nurture, protect and be affectionate with that child..what greater imge is there than what Your Heart feels toward each of us!  Lord forgive us, especially we men who have had an image of women that is not of You but of the evil in men’s hearts to want want power and might over being submissive to one another in obedient love just as Your Son, Jesus has shown us, lived for us and to do this day even brings it to us in the spirit if only will listen and accept so that we might understand Your love for us.  Yes a mystery beyond us and yet so simple that a child can see it.  Make us children again so that we might enjoy heaven here on earth until the time we will   You for all eternity here, there or in the air! Archives Listen to the Prayer Audio:PRAYER FOCUS: BE HUMBLE BEFORE GOD AND HE WILL SURPRISE YOU BEYOND YOUR DREAMS.  HE WANTS THE BEST FOR HIS ARMY, THE BEST WEAPONS, THE BEST PROTECTION AND THE BEST VICTORIES!Heavenly Father,With a humble, contrite spirit we come before You in complete trust for You are the Best Dad we could ever ask for.  You have given us the Best!  Your Son Yeshuah is the greatest and best Gift we could ever imagine.  He alone has shown us how much You love us and in fact You love us just as much as Your Son now that we have accepted Him as our Lord and Savior.  There is no one else that we want to imitate or be like in this wonderful life You have given us.  Father we are so grateful to be called a part of Your family here on earth and connected to You Heavenly Reign over us here on earth as it is in heaven!Father during this sacred time that we Your Strike Force of Prayer have set aside to intercede for our nation and other nations that are aligned with us, we seek to be protected from all the assaults of the enemy.  Keep us off his radar and silence his frequencies from interfering with our communication.  Lord that all they have planned against us fall on them in his camp.Lord keep us from falling into the traps they set for us by distorting the news we hear or the disinformation thrown at us daily.  Lord we are here to listen to Your Heart and to follow the Commands You give us in the battle we find before us today.  We know we will be victorious because Yeshuah has told us in the world there will be trouble but have no fear I have overcome the world.  It is so and we accept it!Father, we intercede to bring even stronger protection for our President Trump and all those around him whom he can truly trust.  Lord we are so blessed to have a man of Your choosing and anointing to fight for us and to lead us into the future that You have planned for us and have revealed through your prophets of our day.  Lord our President is constantly under attack for all that he does and so much criticism and nit picking of how he does things.Lord this Army of Prayer Warriors stand with him as he boldly tells the truth in the way he expresses it.  Lord continue to open more forms of communication so that more Americans see how blessed we are!  Lord even his confronting of his enemies is a sign that the Holy Spirit hovers over him to give him Wisdom and genius to confound those who think they are wise with there schemes to destroy America and distort our history and heritage.Lord as President has said we say too if you hate this country then go back to where you came from!  Lord we truly seek the separation of those who are for us from those who hate us and are against us.  Just as You made Israel of old a sign for the nations to receive Your Messiah, Yeshuah, use us the United States of America as shining Light to say Jesus is Lord!Father, here in America there is such division among those who are liberal in their approach from those who are traditional and follow Your Ways.  Lord we do bless our enemies and hope for their salvation, but we do not stand for the ideas that truly are based on bigotry and all forms of perversion that are against You Law & Commands.  Father one of the burdens is this whole idea of sanctuary cities and/or states. A true distortion of what You gave Israel long ago.It is not to protect the illegal and the criminal as it is being played out here in America.  Lord we cry out for Justice and living by the true laws of our nation based on the Constitution and founding documents.  Lord they are causing chaos and unrest by this distortion.  Lord we seek an end to this awaken us to reject this and return to a safer and saner way in which to live under Your reign of the Kingdom her on earth.Lord, another burden we carry is how we have been oppressed financially by those who are lording it over us in our monetary system.
