Han sonat: Sun Kil Moon , Sufjan Stevens , Father John Misty , Glass Beams , Menahan Street Band , Mayer Hawthorne , Handsome Boy Modeling School , Dub Pistols , James Yorkston i Nils Frahm.

SUB TO THE PPM PATREON TO ACCESS ALL OF "THE KILLER DRILLER (PT. I & II)"—HELP US REACH OUR MOMENT OF TRUTH GOAL BEFORE SEPT. 1ST: patreon.com/ParaPowerMapping This concluding ep of the Engleman contract killing case study is where our investigation really picks up, reaching some climactic revelations, such as: A quite unexpected & rarely covered New Age mystical undercurrent to the case, including the Engleman family's abiding interest in esoterica (not to mention Glennon's quasi Manson-esque astral projection prison ministry). We learn even more about his mob enforcer aspirations. We uncover the Killer Driller victim Frey's work w/ a St. Louis executive class airplane renovating firm that designed luxury cabins for company planes, including hugely successful corporations & conglomerates like Coca-Cola, GM, Northrop Grumman, Anheuser-Busch, etc. We tease out the sex trafficking angle to the Bullock cold case, discovering that the Killer Driller was not only performing off the books medical work for what appears to have been a high society escort service, possibly w/ St. Louis organized crime or mafia ties, but that he was also married to one of the Guys & Dolls Club's most desired prostitutes, aka his first wife Ruthie. We even find tell of an Epstein-esque “black book” that named the powerful clientele of this prostitution ring, and by extension, can reasonably speculate that said document played a key role in the coverup of the Bullock murder. All in all, peeling back layers to this off the beaten path serial contract killer case in American true crime that most handlings have missed, dimensions to the case study that are even more resonant w/ Programmed to Kill or Eye of the Chickenhawk than I first anticipated. And staying true to the Counterpropaganda miniseries & our growing noided media studies department, we also alight upon a film & a prestige TV series that were both inspired by Glennon Engleman… Namely ‘90s body horror flick The Dentist & FX's Fargo S1. I also deliver some closing remarks as to why I think the Killer Driller goes a long way towards contradicting Linklater's “hit men don't exist” thesis of “Hit Man”. Songs & Clips:  | FBI Files - "Serial Killer Dentist" Intro | | FBI Files - "Serial Killer Dentist" scene depicting an interaction b/w Glennon's first wife Ruthie & a SLPD officer while awaiting the identification of Bullock's body | | Vintage KDSK - "Mob violence in St. Louis" | | MACABRE - "Drill Bit Lobotomy" | | Sun Kil Moon - "Richard Ramirez Died Today of Natural Causes" |

In The Heart of It All (Melville House, 2023), Christian Kiefer imagines a group of factory workers and their families living in a once vibrant Ohio town during the Trump era. The factory is the only place to work outside of Walmart, the grocery store, or a fast-food chain, and it's owned by Mr. Marwat, a Pakistani man whose wife helps in the office, while their teenagers embrace American life. The family is upended when Mr. Marwat's parents move in. The factory foreman, Tom Bailey, and his family's lives are upended when their sick baby dies. Their daughter Janey's life is upended when she befriends the only Black young man in the town. Mr. Marwat's secretary Mary Lou's life is upended when her mother moves into a nursing home and dies. All of their struggles are exacerbated by small injustices but eased by small kindnesses in this sweet and thoughtful glimpse into the lives of people just trying to get by. CHRISTIAN KIEFER's novels have appeared on best of the year lists from Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, and Booklist and have received rave reviews in The Washington Post, Oprah.com, the San Francisco Chronicle, Brooklyn Rain, Library Journal, Huffington Post, and elsewhere. Bad Music Hertz

Support the Official Release You can listen to Band of Horses' Infinite Arms on: Apple Music Spotify Or purchase Infinite Arms on: Amazon Music Links Marvis Pro, the iOS music player Michael mentioned using to see his play counts. Vacationer's Relief, the only album that came close to Infinite Arms's play count number in Michael's library. You can read Michael's previous review on the record here. Michael mentioned having a Fracture print of Infinite Arms, which is a picture printed directly on glass for a minimal, sleek presentation. This is his current collection. Sun Kil Moon's Benji, the album Marc claimed to be a perfect foil to the easily digestible and repeatable Infinite Arms. You can listen to our previous discussion on the record in Episode 8. Band of Horses' new lineup during Infinite Arms, and would remain unchanged for years—the first “true” Band of Horses lineup: Benjamin Bridwell Creighton Barret Ryan Monroe Bill Reynolds Tyler Ramsey The star at the center of the pivot point in the album art is Polaris (more commonly known as the “North Star”). The star seems to stand still in long exposure photography while the rest of the northern hemisphere stars spin around it due to the North Star being in a (mostly) direct line with the Earth's rotational axis with respect to the North Pole. Christopher Wilson, the Photographer for Infinite Arms's cover art and all the band's album art up to that point. (information courtesy of the Albums app on iOS). Michael's insane graph of “vibrancy”/”energy” by track number Infinite Arms was nominated for “Best Alternative Music Album” for the 53rd Grammy Awards in 2011, the same year Arcade Fire famously secured Album of the Year with The Suburbs. You can read Marc's thoughts on The Suburbs here. Marc found “Factory” to share similarities with Paul McCartney and Wings's “Let Me Roll It” off 1973's Band on the Run and Vacationer's “Turning” off 2018's Mindset. You can read Marc's review of Band on the Run here or listen to our discussion on Mindset in Episode 14. “Factory” utilizes both a Memotron and Theremin. The Theremin also appeared in Lord Huron's “Love Like Ghosts” & “Way Out There” off 2015's Strange Trails, and you can listen to our previous discussion on that record in Episode 2. Michael's writeup on Jimmy Buffett's A1A mentioned during the show can be found here, the finest publication on the site thus far. The Last Bison's Quill, a record Michael felt was similar to “Compliments” since they both are high in character and charm in large part because of their imperfections. Grizzly Bear's Yellow House, the record Marc felt similarly leaned into “everything & the kitchen sink” production. Eagles, a classic rock band Michael could very easily see playing “Laredo” ChrisCorradi's comment on the “bullet in my Kai Lorenzo” lyric on genius.com “Band Of Horses Survived… Barely”, The SPIN interview Marc mentioned where Ben touches on his then-recent separation with his spouse. “Grumpy Old Men” (the 1993 film) and “Old City Bar” by Trans-Siberian Orchestra both evoked similar feelings and visuals in Michael as “Blue Beard”. The Explorer's Club, a classic rock & roll and classic pop-influenced band that Marc found strikingly similar to Band of Horses' experiments in “Blue Beard” and “Dilly”. “I need more cowbell!” Long in the Tooth and Repo Records referenced in the show are Marc's favorite record haunts in the Philly area. Support your local music stores! Marc kept saying “Dilly” was very “70's” but meant to say “60's” (oops). Ludo's “Good Will Hunting by Myself”, the song Michael mentioned takes the stereotypical “I'm better off without you, anyway” attitude from pop breakup songs and cranks it up to a comical extreme. Admiral Fallow, the band Michael mentioned was also sometimes similarly “rough” in vocal delivery like in “Evening Kitchen” and also works because of those edges. Arcade Fire's “We Used To Wait”—which explicitly and intentionally makes the audience “wait” for a final chorus that never again returns—Michael cheekily claimed to be the antithesis to the infinitely repeating chorus in “Older”. “Basement Shows” (also known as “House Shows”), a staple of Philadelphia college life. “Are You My Neightbor?”, a deep cut Marc made to the classic VeggieTales episode. Yes, this was a real thing. Grizzly Bear's “Colorado”, a song Marc found just as boring as “Neighbor”. Yes Michael, I will put it down there. The Arcade Fire lyric Marc was flopping around trying to remember is “Took a drive into the sprawl / To find the house where we used to stay”, where their usage of “house” instead of “home” is meant to communicate emotional distance and lack of attachment to the physical place they grew up. Please use a good podcast player! Rooibos tea is best tea. Premium Steap and August Tea are incredible tea suppliers and are “Marc & Michael Approved”. Don't just drink Lipton and say our tea tastes like soap, anonymous coworker of Michael's. References Listed in order of reference on the show. “We actually started with a tonne of songs—about twenty-five or so—so we didn't even know which ones would make it, or which ones were good or bad really. So you don't really know until you're recording them, because we weren't really playing a lot of them live, so once they're recorded you're like, ‘Okay, this actually sounds like a real song, and this one sounds like a joke'—we're just taking the piss out of some soul song or something, you know? So we kinda learned as we went, like, ‘Oh wow, is what the record sounds like'.” “Band Of Horses Interview”, CLASH “‘We have this time off before we gotta go back out on the road again—let's just go do it ourselves. We'll get another engineer… We think we know what the songs sound like—let's just go for it'. And so we were like, “This is actually really fun”. That's when we really discovered we don't have to beat each other up on this, we can just have fun with it and enjoy the process.” “Band Of Horses Interview”, CLASH “I did stretch myself pretty much to being broke, at the same time we didn't have to worry about anybody even coming in and hearing mixes or anything, we could really take our time with it.” “Band Of Horses Interview”, CLASH “It's the first time the line-up hasn't been this revolving door. With this record it's a real band that I'm part of. No one's going anywhere, everyone's contributing to the songwriting process and this is our coming-out party.” “Band of Horses: Infinite Arms Q&A with Ben Bridwell, Uncut Magazine (archive)” “… But that's the best part about it—the fact that it is a mystery. People get the lyrics wrong—I do that all the time with my favorite songs. You read the lyrics five years later, or hear it differently, and you're like, ‘Oh, I always kinda sang something to that effect when I was singing along, but I didn't really realize what they were talking about', you know? In a way it's like little hints come around and the mystery kinda reveals itself, but the fact that people don't really know is my favorite part, because that's what I appreciate about songs as well.” “Band Of Horses Interview”, CLASH [With Regards to “Factory”] “I was listening to a lot of Nick Drake and was really enamored by the string arrangements in his songs. Also, I was trying to make it a bit dramatic sounding in a Bittersweet Symphony kinda way.” “Track-byTrack: Band of Horses' Infinite Arms”, THE SKINNY “I was actually out writing songs for the new record, and I had some crazy stuff going on. That song just kind of ended up tapping me on the shoulder. Even though some of it is a bit maybe too autobiographical for my own tastes, a lot of it dances around subjects like all my songs do. I try not to be too specific.” “Infinite Arms: A conversation with Band of Horses' Ben Bridwell”, Mike Ragogna of HuffPost Entertainment “We got to the point where we were touring so much that nowhere was really home. So I figured, at least if I'm gonna come home after these long stretches of traveling, it would nice to be around my family; my parents, and my brother and sister are having babies. So it was like, when I come home, at least I'm close enough so I get to see them at least twice a year compared to like maybe once a year.” “Band Of Horses Interview”, CLASH “This song [‘Infinite Arms'] deals a lot with the major theme of the record, and being the title track that's maybe a little obvious, but this is one I'm not quite ready to unveil the mask on. But I can tell you that it almost didn't make the record.” “Track-byTrack: Band of Horses' Infinite Arms”, THE SKINNY “We went bonkers with Infinite Arms, because we could. It was a challenge to see what we could do, but we also overcooked some shit.” “Band of Horses: Mystery Riders”, Magnet Magazine Art ♫︎

We had the pleasure of interviewing Fredrik Saroea of DATAROCK over Zoom video! Fredrik Saroea is the frontman of Norway's bizarre, global indie sensation – DATAROCK.After years touring the world with alternative bangers such as "Fa-Fa-Fa" he now present an entirely different side to his songwritingThe new solo album Rona Diaries was inspired by everything from post-rock (like The Sea and Cake) via hard-core (like Fugazi), noise-rock (like U.S. Maple), space-rock (like Flying Saucer Attack), art-rock (like Blonde Redhead) to Morrissey's indie-classics, Sun Kil Moon's As COVID-19 shut down live music, Saroea started recording in their label YAP Records' studio –YAP HQ in Bergen (Norway) – with DATAROCK drummer Øyvind Solheim helping out engineering & co-producing. The 12 songs jammed in on the 28 minute long album was also mixed by Solheim & Saroea at YAP HQ, and then shipped to UK's legend Mike Marsh (Björk, Massive Attack, Oasis, DATAROCK) for mastering. The artwork was created by the amazing Magnus Voll Mathiassen whom has illustrated everything from Rihanna's Unapologetic album to this years official Oscars rendition. The release on May 28th took place with an internationally streamed concert in Norway's stately Grieg Hall – famous for the most iconic Norwegian black metal recordings. The host of the event was the largest festival in the Nordic counties for art & music; Bergen International Festival (established in 1963). I know that you are probably wondering where 'Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind' comes into this episode. Rest assured, I do eventually talk about Clementine, the absolute love of my love, and move on from my fixation on the Umbrella Academy season two that I finished moments before recording this. I do apologise though for the spoilers and also the rambling that has absolutely nothing to do with Eternal Sunshine at all. So spoilers I guess. I also want to drum home that I literally have zero education on either film or editing, so they both seem rather shabby right now, or just completely non-existent. The playlist is as follows (i usually take three from the film and then three that I think fit the vibe): Everybody's gotta learn sometime - Beck (this version was the one used in the film and although it isn't the original I have to say that it is my favourite. It has been taken off Spotify but there are still good versions out there) Mr. blue sky - Electric Light Orchestra Light and day - The Polyphonic Spree All we ever wanted was everything - Bauhaus This is not possible - Sun Kil Moon (this tune is an acquired taste and I'm still not sure if I like it but listen to it whilst driving in the dark, possibly when raining) Get thy bearings - Donovan Here is the information on the Black Lives Matter movement (i will also encourage you to look up what happened in Lebanon and also what is still happening in Yemen and do what you can. I know it's difficult for one person to feel like they have any kind of impact but the impact is created by togetherness so, not to quote Tesco or anything, 'every little helps'). https://blacklivesmatter.carrd.co/. Also, I'm not sure if I have mentioned it yet, but you should still be careful with Coronavirus and try and abide a little with the guidelines set out where you live. Weirdly enough, it is still going on, and people should still be respectful, especially to those who have lost people. No one's immune, wear a mask. Next week I may have a guest on the show!! technically I haven't asked anyone yet but if I manifest it as people like saying then perhaps something may happen ;). Who knows what we will talk about. I'm not going to say a film that may feature because as soon as I write it down it's like 500% less likely to be considered by me. Have a good day! Sleep! Go! Love!

[JOHN's PICK] If you've ever found yourself back home (wherever you're from) at your folk's or grand-folk's neck of the woods, and you've had one of those moments where you find yourself tripping down memory lane and all-of-a-sudden vividly reliving memories with loved ones past, you will understand the headspace that Mark Kozelek was in when he was writing Sun Kil Moon's sixth studio album 'Benji.' In 2013, Mark's second cousin, Carissa, died tragically prompting him to come back home to Ohio to attend the funeral. While processing everything back home, Mark really dove into his most intimate memories, about loved ones come and gone, as well as somber thoughts on his mother and father. We all have family visits like this and it hits very close to home. Join Brad, Dave, Jon A, & Jon G as we laugh and cry about all of the woes that one encounters in life... Dearest Radio Ulnites, Apparently February wass the month to release the maddest notes because all these fools came out with guns a-blazin'. I'm not the biggest fan of Xiu Xiu (re: "A Promise" album cover malarkey), but his track was one of the more savage things I've heard in quite a while and I can appreciate these things. Deal with it. Also, a new band on my radar is Cibo Matto, a couple of Japanese dames that can crank out some weird, synth-pop, dancy tunes. Encourage checking them out. Anyway, "new" Phantogram, Sun Kil Moon, St. Vincent -- NEW EVERYTHING! Yup. Thanks for listening, A.B.   Radio Ulna Mix 15 - More Original Than Our Own St. Vincent - Bring Me Your Loves (0:00 - 3:11) Cibo Matto - Deja Vu (3:12 - 7:23) Phantogram - Fall In Love (7:24 - 10:50) Xiu Xiu - Stupid In The Dark (10:51 - 13:36) The Casket Girl - Same Side (13:37 - 17:40) Chad VanGaalen - Where Are You (17:41 - 22:38) Yellow Ostrich - You Are The Stars (22:39 - 26:08) Cloud Nothings - I'm Not Part Of Me (26:09 - 30:38) JPNSGRLS - Mushrooms (30:39 - 34:00) Stonefox - All I Want (34:01 - 37:55) The Hidden Cameras - Year Of The Spawn (37:56 - 42:37) Damien Jurado - Silver Timothy (42:38 - 45:51) Sun Kil Moon - Ben's My Friend (45:52 - 51:00)   All music purchased legally through iTunes and Amazon.com, and protected under fair use and its application to podcasts.

found a cool clip on YouTube from the Beatles Abbey Road album.  It is the 16 minute medley that closes the album but it's only the vocals.  It's fascinating to listen to familiar vocals in a new way.  Here's a link to the YouTube clip... Abbey Road vocals. The vocals for "The Sun King" caught my attention and I thought they'd make a nice start to a new Sunday morning mix.  I couldn't resist messing with the track a little bit so I slowed it down and mixed part of that slowed down track under the normal one  I like the way the sowed track fills the space between vocals.  Then I brought the slow track up full to finish off The Sun King.  It's really kind of amazing how beautiful the track still sounds even when slowed way down. As I was adding tracks to the mix I stumbled upon the Sun Kil Moon song "Sunshine in Chicago" and it hit me that the mix should revolve around the sun.  So every song on the tracklist has "sun" in the title. I love using a keyword to narrow a musical search because it always turns up cuts I had completely forgotten about.  In this case I was very excited to have dug up "Eternity's Sunrise" from the "Children of Men" score.  I'm pretty happy with how this "sunny" mix turned out. Enjoy.
