This episode is a little bit of a sad one because it will be Ferne's last episode as my co-host. My little girl (who's not so little) is growing up. She'll need this time to focus on her PhD and head to the tropics for fieldwork. In this last episode together, we talk about transitions. We talk about moving from one phase of life to another: a new job, a different town, time without a partner, no longer being on a podcast. Why do life changes always feel so hard? And how do we make them just a little bit easier?A note from Ferne: Thank you to all our listeners who encouraged me to continue recording. We all know that feeling when life piles up and the lack of sleep starts to hit us like a ton of bricks. But exhaustion is more than just the lack of sleep. Exhaustion is emotionally charged; it's the feeling that you don't have time to sleep because you have so many things to do. It's the feeling that you can't take a rest because the world would fall apart without you. So, the answer isn't as simple as taking a nap.The answer can however be found in this week's episode of The Frame of Mind Coaching™ Podcast, tune in to check it out!https://www.frameofmindcoaching.com/podcastRead the episode's transcript here:https://www.buzzsprout.com/1252997/episodes/11746894Don't forget to fill out our new survey!https://www.frameofmindcoaching.com/podcastsurveyWas this information useful to you or someone else? To be or not to be? To go or not to go? To buy or not to buy? Big or small, we make decisions on a daily basis, so why do some decisions feel so much harder to make? Of course, there are the morally ambiguous, socially precarious, dramatic and life changing decisions that are understandably difficult. But sometimes, super simple, insignificant decisions can cause so much unnecessary turmoil; like whether or not to go to a party or whether or not to buy a nice shirt, or even where to go out to eat. How do such simple decisions become so complex? Would it really make a difference either way? As a society, we are ultimately very lucky to have access to birth control and be able to decide when or if we want to have children. The issue is that, for many women, birth control is less than ideal. Be it a pill or an IUD, these contraception options act primarily by altering the hormone levels in your body, which can make you emotional, irritable, and sometimes feel as though you are not in control of your own state of being. This is not to mention the whole slew of health risks that are associated with these medications. Another option is a copper IUD, this option can increase bleeding and amplify the pain from natural periods, which at times can be incapacitating. Then there are the classics: condoms, these are inconvenient and risky at best. Of course, abstinence is a possibility, but a sad one indeed. This is all to say that none of these options are ideal and it can feel crushing to think that you must suffer with one of these choices for a huge chunk of your life, particularly when you have a heightened sensitivity to some of these symptoms. So the question is, given that these are all the options we have, how do we make the choice?Check out this new episode of The Frame of Mind Coaching™ Podcast!https://www.frameofmindcoaching.com/podcastRead the episode's transcript here:https://www.buzzsprout.com/1252997/episodes/11480086What are your thoughts on birth control? We all know that one person who doesn't know how to say no. It doesn't matter what it is, this person will sacrifice themselves time and time again just to make others happy. One of the most common challenges that parents who are also business leaders face is time shortage. This is because they tend to think that they should be doing everything, and although they strive for some balance in their lives, there's always something that falls through the cracks, leaving them with a sense of guilt.Olessia Lapina, Human Resources Consultant and Founder of Lapina Consulting, has been trying to find work-life balance for a while now. Since she recently started her own consulting firm and has a family (including a toddler), Olessia feels like she doesn't have time to be fully present in either parts of her life, and she's been feeling guilty about it.Perhaps Olessia can think a little bit differently about her roles and responsibilities instead of looking for perfect balance. Some people are naturally excellent listeners; they ask all the right questions and pause at all the right moments; they react just the way you want them to. Some people love listening to others and are genuinely curious about what they have to say. But even good listeners need someone to listen to them too sometimes. How do you find your audience? The topic of retaining talent has been coming up A LOT lately. Although there are many reasons why employees leave jobs, the most common cause is leaders who lack coaching skills.Annabelle Picker worked for a company for about 2 years. She recently went on maternity leave, and as she was preparing herself to go back and was ready to take the next step in the company, her manager told her that a promotion wouldn't be possible for at least a year! This caused Annabelle to make a tough decision for herself and her family, but now she doesn't know how to break the news to her manager.Listen to this new episode of The Frame of Mind Coaching™ Podcast!https://www.frameofmindcoaching.com/podcastRead the episode's transcript here:https://www.buzzsprout.com/1252997/episodes/10833194Have you found yourself in a similar situation? There are many reasons why people don't ask for help. Maybe they grew up that way, or perhaps they have a need to prove themselves. One of the most common reasons is that they feel like they're imposing. My guest today is Nausheen Osman, HR Manager and Technical Recruiter at Planet of IT. As a working single mother of three, she feels like she doesn't have enough time for anything. When she's not working, she has to do everything at home, including taking care of her toddler and two teens.Perhaps the problem isn't a lack of time, but rather her approach. As Nausheen shares with me, she feels like asking for help is a bad idea. This week's podcast is about Ferne's childhood; here is her story:As a child, my mother always praised me for my strawberry cutting skills – I know, oddly specific and not widely useful, but nevertheless, I was proud. I was probably eight years old when I was cutting some strawberries, and I accidentally cut my finger instead. There was a little blood, but nothing too serious. I started crying anyway, not because it hurt, but because I had messed up my special task. I was worried that I wasn't good at it anymore. Surprisingly, after my mom cleaned me up and gave me a band-aid, she sent me straight back to work. I was shocked but elated, I didn't want to stop something I was good at. My question to my mother is: Why did you trust me? How did you know that I wouldn't hurt myself again?Tune in to know how the conversation went!https://www.frameofmindcoaching.com/podcastRead the episode's transcript here:https://www.buzzsprout.com/1252997/episodes/10566011Have you been in a situation like this? On top of that, she's not sure if she has made the right decisions. Many people don't realize that the word “should” carries A LOT of unnecessary weight in our lives, and it tends to be the source of our doubt when it comes to our decisions.Ope needs to get behind her decisions, which she can do with help from the H.E.A.L formula.
