And that's a wrap! We have officially ended our live coverage of the festival. Everything came together smoothly for the first-ever virtual festival. If anything, I'm slightly more hopeful about the future of films in a post COVID-19 world. Eventive's platform worked very well for hosting the films and ensuring a safe, effective viewing experience. Purchasing tickets to the events and films was simple and self-explanatory — and selecting the times was easy enough, too. I personally can't wait for more festivals to do this moving forward! One thing to note: there were a lot of short films that we didn't get the chance to watch. I would highly encourage that you check out the full list of jury winners here: http://promotehorror.com/2020/10/15/nightstream-virtual-film-festival-comes-to-a-close-as-award-winning-shorts-are-announced-and-dinner-in-america-takes-the-audience-award/Some of our favorite films from the festival:Dinner in America Black BearPelican BloodFrank and Zed RunBuzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! This week is….well….sigh. Jared and Linda discuss more release date changes - with No Time to Die moving its release date to 2021 as theaters close down yet again. Spider-Man 3 will see the return of Jamie Foxx as Electro, in a surprising twist that's certain to shake-up Tom Holland's third outing as Spider-Man. Meanwhile, Disney lays off 28,000 workers during a global pandemic; don't worry though, Disney overshadowed the controversy by announcing that The Lion King 2 has officially been greenlit and will be helmed by Moonlight director, Barry Jenkins. On this episode of the podcast, Jared and Linda discuss the massive lineup that the virtual film festival, Nightstream, has in store for us this October. Some new set photos of Scream 5 have leaked and it will be discussed on this episode of the podcast. The team also touch on the Nick Fury series coming to Disney+ and how likely it is that we will see a young Nick Fury. Did you catch the new trailer for The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix? Jared and Linda did, and they LOVED it. In addition, how are the theaters handling a very delicate exhibition market? Well, some of the regional cinemas here in Nebraska have begun closing their doors again. It is a trend we are likely to see more of in the coming months.Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! On this episode, Jared and Linda review the new Netflix film, The Devil All the Time (2020). Will Black Widow be moved back AGAIN? Well, the box office certainly indicates a struggling exhibition market. Mulan underperformed in China, only receiving a grand total of $23 million in its opening weekend. With the most recent news that Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 1984 would be pushed back, insiders and movie theaters are bracing for a rough fall. What will the state of movies be when 2021 arrives? No one is certain, but the numbers suggest that moviegoers will be hesitant to return to the exhibitions through next year. In other news, Jim Cummings' new horror comedy, The Wolf of Snow Hollow, released its first trailer. Finally, the team discuss The Mandalorian Season 2 trailer. This week, Jared and Linda discuss the success of DC FanDome's virtual convention. Compared to other virtual events (we are looking at you, SDCC), it was a smashing success in audience reception and viewership. The team provides and update on The New Mutants' box office projections/previews, and talk about The Thing adaptation moving forward from Universal and Blumhouse. And, as a bonus, they probably spend an exorbitant amount of time discussing Scream 5's new release date. That is a guess, because I (Jared) write these things way ahead of time.
