Send us a textJUROR #2 It's late-December and, foregoing our usual Christmas-adjacent movie watch, this year TGTPTU has a very special treat for the holidays. That's right, listener, we bring to you our hot takes on what may prove to be Clint Eastwood's final film--and even more likely his final theatrically-released film--JUROR #2 (2024) in time for its MAX streaming release so that you might celebrate with us and have yourself a very Merry Clint-mas. Eastwood's latest film with Warner Brothers continues what was a trend (excepting Cry Macho and The Mule) of not starring the star of the 70's ape comedies and the Dirty Harry series, instead keeping Eastwood off camera and bringing in a murderer's row (some pun intended) of character actors, including Nicholas Hoult from multiple Bryan Singer flicks as the titular Juror #2; Toni Collette from The Sixth Sense as Assistant DA Faith Killebrew who may put her career on the line to explore whether the person she put away for murder is guilty; J.K. Simmons from Postal (and likely some other films) as a former detective on the jury who also has suspicions of innocence; Cedric Yarbrough from Reno 911! as juror out for justice; Kiefer Sutherland from multiple Joel Schumacher flicks as Juror #2's AA sponsor and lawyer confidant; and even one of Eastwood's many children--Francesca Eastwood--giving the double bird in multiple, retold scenes Rashomon-style playing the once-and-future corpse. From The Mule & Richard Jewell, cinematographer Yves Bélanger is back with Mark Mancina returning from Cry Macho for the score. And surprisingly and, as discussed, perhaps as a first for Eastwood as a director, the man who addressed an empty chair at the RNC and practices TM actually worked with the film's writer to GASP! rewrite the script, an act host Ken who has seen and reported back on every Eastwood film takes to mean Juror #2 is the 94-year-old director's swan song. And the song is good! While the hosts conflict on where the movie lands politically in its cynicism and realism, all four of the folx talking in your earholes believe the moving picture a solid mid-budget thriller that harkens back to a time/era of pre-streaming moviegoing. Speaking of an era ending, Warner Brothers appears to believe the Time of Eastwood is done, releasing this latest film from the long-time collaborator in under 50 theaters seven scheduled weeks before releasing it for streaming on MAX. So get your spoilers here, and listen to the end of the p for what starts as a rant against WB's treatment of Eastwood and becomes men complaining about previews and ads before films that eventually ends with the four hosts recapping their 2024 movie-going experiences before awarding their best films of the year. Also fun: Evidence is presented throughout by hosts Ken and Thomas for whether provisional cohost Ryan should be promoted to a full-time host. Congrats, newly fully-fledged host Ryan. Don't rush to mess this up. Big D and Gene called up the rootinest, tootinest feller they know to help review 1992's "Unforgiven," and the King Bee delivered with sage cowboy wisdom about big-booty threesomes, the pony economy and frontier law. This Academy Award-winning masterpiece led to a stampede of topics including: What constitutes a movie room? Is there honor among killers? Can the right woman save you? Would William Munny survive the final shootout? Is Morgan Freeman too dignified to die on screen? And how do you pause Instagram stories? The King Bee offers a bounty for fictional movies with epilogues, and Dick Ebert gives style safety tips as The Shat Crew laments the fact Clint Eastwood ever made "The Mule" and "Cry Macho." Originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, Zach knew he wanted to work in film at a very young age. However, it wasn't until he was much older after attempting a career in the emergency medical field and co-owning a cupcake shop that he decided to take his chance in the industry. Zach attended the Digital Animation and Visual Effects School out of Orlando, Florida, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in VFX Production. His first big break was working with MPC Vancouver as a compositor on Justice League, Fifty Shades Freed, The Strain, and several other projects. As his time with MPC was coming to a close, he became enamored with the production side of the industry. Through some furthering education and immense drive, Zach landed his first gig in production with Falcon's Creative Group. While working in themed entertainment, he thrived as a production coordinator and later took on additional responsibilities as the casting director and unit production manager for live-action. During his time with Falcon's Creative Group, Zach was able to work with clients such as Marvel Entertainment, National Geographic, PBS, and many more. However, his favorite assignment was as the unit production manager and lead post-production coordinator for Halo: Outpost Discovery, a traveling meta-interactive experience.Though he enjoyed his time in themed entertainment, Zach always longed to get back into the film and television industry, and in 2019 Crafty Apes VFX offered him that golden opportunity. Since his return, Zach has worked on over twenty film or television projects across three visual effects studios. He is known for his attention to detail and his thoughtfulness when it comes to clients. Some of his standout credits include Mulan, Star Trek: Picard, Cry Macho, and Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. In his time away from the studio, Zach enjoys helping up-and-coming filmmakers with their production, visual effects, and casting needs through his company, Throw the Knife Productions.Connect with the Film School'd Podcast:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/filmschooldInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/filmschooldpod/Twitter: https://twitter.com/FilmSchooldPodYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdgrswiL4AGviAOcbzfYCAwContinue the Conversation in the Official Film School'd Discussion Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/filmschoold

Last week, we lost one of the people who made us laugh the most. Iconic comedian Norm Macdonald left behind a vast legacy of work and we've spent the last week chewing over his great contributions to comedic storytelling. What we've found is a veritable treasure chest of profoundly funny material spanning diverse forms and functions. Today we celebrate the endless joy Norm Macdonald has provided us with, from his stint on Saturday Night Live with Weekend Update, to his legendary appearances on David Letterman and Conan O'Brien, to Norm's own hosting forays on YouTube and Netflix. It's time to give Norm his flowers. With guest host Pavlos stepping in, we also highlight the Late Era-careers of Clint Eastwood, Paul Schrader, and Sion Sono, with Cry Macho, The Card Counter, and Prisoners of the Ghostland. Meanwhile, awards season begins! The Emmys happened and we lightly reflect on the year's show and the space for television awards shows in a media climate that heavily favors streaming services. And it's an Anime Takeover on The Twin Geekscast, as we discuss the long, storied history of Mobile Suit Gundam (1981), and the outsized influences of the show and their movies. After debating whether Steven Spielberg's 1975 Jaws is really a horror movie, Dan & Mike stay with a 70s theme reviewing a film that at one time was set to also star Roy Scheider. In this episode, Dan & Mike review the latest feature from Actor, Producer, Director Clint Eastwood. Eastwood produces and directs Cry Macho, based on the novel of the same name by N. Richard Nash. Beginning in the year 1979, Cry Macho follows Eastwood as a broken down ex rodeo champion, Mike Milo, who takes a job to bring a man's (played by Dwight Yoakam) young son home and away from his alcoholic mom. On their journey, the horseman finds redemption through teaching the boy what it means to be a good man (IMDB). For our second podcast review this week, Josh Parham joins me to discuss the newest film from Clint Eastwood, "Cry Macho." At the age of 91, Eastwood is still starring in front of the camera and making movies for us from behind the camera. How does his latest film hold up in his filmography? Could it be the last time we see him on screen? We discuss his legacy, his performance, his direction, and more in our review down below. Enjoy! Get your best blanket and your smoothest hand cream out because this is our most OLD MAN EPISODE yet. We're going positively geriatric for Cry Macho, Clint Eastwood's supposed "final" on-screen appearance. While trying to review this movie that suspiciously sounds like it was written by an AI, we delve briefly into Clint's singing career, check out his old school orangutan movie, and lament the sad state of IMDb after they jettisoned their message boards and turned the movie site into the internet's dumpster. S3 E16 - ROOSTER ROAD TRIPA VERY special return to our Eastwood project! After watching every Eastwood for season's 1-3, Ken and Jack are back to talk about what may be Eastwood's swaniest swan song yet! Eastwood is 91 and probably working on half a dozen new projects but, mathematically, we gotta treat this like it may be his last, right? We are realists, not fatalists, and Eastwood would tip his hat to that, we hope. CRY MACHO (2021) is based on the novel of the same name by N. Richard Nash, a screenwriter in the mid 1970s who wrote it as a script first and then, when he couldn't sell it, turned it into a novel that then became a hot screen property that has bounced around with some interesting names ever since. That sounds great.... until you hear Nick Schenk of Gran Torino and The Mule did a polish. We love us some Torino but The Mule is badly written by any objective estimation. Eastwood says he had to wait until he was old enough to play the main character but... the dude in the book is almost sixty years younger than him. Anyway, it's great story to remind us he said the same thing about his unassailable masterpiece, UNFORGIVEN. Is Cry Macho a return to form after the sloppy and missed opportunity of THE MULE? Is this the potential send-off we've been waiting for of the greatest screen legend of all time? Yes, all time. Fight us. Or... is it more late era Eastwood where you wish it was good and 65 years of goodwill makes you give it a pass? We are the reigning podcast experts on Eastwood and will let you know!THEME SONG: ANDI AGNEW. The streaming age is here! Grandma has traded in her cable box for Peacock! AMC wants to crush Jason's soul further by increasing prices and showing fewer movies. Disney Plus reaches 116 million subscribers in a year! The "final" trailer for Marvel's Eternals, will it sway Ernie? Plus will Star Wars Visions be an instant classic or will people be turned off by the anime style? House of Gucci trailer is hitting all the right notes (or handbags?). Clint Eastwood's Cry Macho and Marion Cotillard & Adam Driver's Annette gets some much needed attention. Plus 'Only Murder in the Buildings' sees a new amigos trio with Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short (spoiler alert, it looks delightful!).
